Hidden tables in Sybase DB

Post Author: despec
CA Forum: General
Hello to all,I use an ODBC connection out to a Sybase DB.  For some reason, when I try to access some of the tables, they're simply not there.  When I check the Db using the Sybase Java client, the tables are, in fact, present in the DB.  Any ideas why I'm not seeing them in Crystal Reports (using 11.5)? go to File, Options, select the Database tab, in the data exporer section, you may need to check,  Tables, Views, Stored Procedures,  etc.....

    Dear Sir/Madam,
    I know this is not related with oracle DB, however i am in the need of help from you people who worked on Sybase. plz help me..
    I have the excel sheet which contains EmpId and EmpName values. I just wanted to read these two values one by one from an excel sheet and loaded them into one temp table in Sybase. is it possible thru sqlldr ?
    here is the sample code for your reference:
    begin tran
    create table tempdb..empIdName (emp_id int identity,emp_name varchar(50))
    go

    thanks

    there is some hint provided by sybase user
    If it's Sybase IQ, you can export the excel file to a CSV file, then use a LOAD TABLE statement to get the data into your temporary table.
    For ASE, BCP would provide similar functionality.
    I am using ISQLW tool to work with sybase DB. what query to load the excel data to tem table in sybase. anyone who knows this? help me

  • Anyone know how to upload csv file to temp table of sybase DB from java?

    Dear All,
    I blindly need your help in achieving the following:
    I have the csv file which contains OrdId and BillId values. I just wanted to read these two values one by one from excel and loaded them into one temp table of Sybase SQL Anywhere.
    here is the sample query for your reference:
    begin tran
    create table tempdb..ordBill (ord_id int identity,bill_id int
    go
    load table tempdb..ordBill from 'c:\\test\\test.csv'Error:
    Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'table'.
    I am having only one tool Microsoft ISQL/W from which i connect to remote sybase DB and run some queries like sp_help , create etc.. from there.
    It would be great,if somebody knows the way of doing the above thru some java program. Otherwise, is there any tool like BCP required to do the above?
    Awaiting for your valuable reply
    thanks

  • View Hidden tables

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle 11g and I had changed the access permissions on tables changing them to "Hidden".
    How can I change access privileges on Hidden tables and make it available to "scott" user? I have access privileges of Sysadmin.

    Hi Laura,
    Thanks for your reply. Yes, it is a virtual private database and I don't remember changing the access permissions as "Hidden" and now I want to make tables accessible.

  • Migrating table from Sybase 12 to Oracle 10g

    Hi ,
    We have a situation where we have to migrate multiple Sybase databases to Oracle10g . These multiple database have same set of tables but different data in these tables on each sybase database ( data differ, based on location or region wise but same table name and structure). We want to migrate all these sybase database to Oracle 10g and in single database, which involves inserting data from multiple tables ( though they exist on different database in sybase) into single Oracle table.
    for example if we have a table 'TESTK' that exist on five different sybase database but with different region wise data. I want to bring data from these five tables( Five as they exist in five differet sybase databases) and insert them into a single oracle table 'TESTK' .
    Have anybody ever face such scenerio , what are all possible approch please suggest. Once data is inserted into oracle table i need to partitioned this oracle table as well.

    It is not quite clear whether you have multiple tables (referencing each other) in multiple sybase databases or either one table or several non connected tables in multiple sybase databases.
    In the first case of course your task is harder because you need to keep references and most probably you cannot blindly copy data from db 1, db 2 and unite them because they can have the same id's coming from different sources.
    In the second case your task of course is much easier you can simply load all your data in Oracle tables either using some interim tables (if you need to filter out duplicates) or load data straight into target tables if you are sure you haven't duplicates.
    Also another question in case 1 is whether intersection of your data is 0 rows i.e. all data are completely different in each source db or not.
    So I'm sure you can find tools for blindly moving data from sybase to Oracle, although if you need to do some more complex filtering, computation or whatever you most probably need to write it yourself.
    I'v done a few data conversion projects from one schema to another and as the requirements were quite complex the only possibility for us was to initiate a separate data conversion project and create conversion software (pl/sql packages manually).
    You can find an overview of our approach in my article "Data migration from old to new application: an experience" here http://www.gplivna.eu/papers/legacy_app_migration.htm

  • Problem creating schema/tables on sybase

    Running the schematool or using the SynchronizeSchema feature, I get the
    following exception on sybase:
    com.sybase.jdbc.SybSQLException: The 'CREATE TABLE' command is not allowed
    within a multi-statement transaction in the 'MEDIA' database.
    The same application deploys fine using SQL-server or Oracle.
    I'm using kodo 2.4.0.
    Any ideas?

    This is a bug in our 2.4.0 release. It has been resolved internally, and
    a fix will be available in 2.4.1.
    In the mean time, use the -outfile option to schematool to output a DDL,
    and manually run this DDL against your schema.

  • Open form with hidden table

    Hi All.
    I have simple form with CheckBox and Table. I show table when CheckBox is True. My code:
    form1.#subform[0].CheckBox1::change - (JavaScript, client)
    if (CheckBox1.rawValue == true)
        Table1.presence = "hidden";
    else
        Table1.presence = "visible";
    But I would like to hide Table in case when user open form and then when CheckBox is True show table. In case when CheckBox is False the Table is hidden. How it to do? I will appreaciate for sample.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    this is not so difficult. You have to do the following steps:
    open a new form.
    insert a checkbox and a table into the form.
    mark the checkbox
    open the script editor (about window)
    select "click-event"
    write:
    if (CheckBox1.rawValue == 1)
        Table1.presence = "hidden";
    }else
        Table1.presence = "visible";
    And now you have to hide the table under "object" | "presence" | "hidden (exclude from layout)"
    Ready.
    Kind regards Mandy
    PS: Oh I haven't seen that the problem is solved.

    HI All,
    Could you give an idea on taking logical structure backups on Sybase database . And how to restore this backup . Similar to exp/imp or expdp/impdp  utility in oracle is there any such utility available for Sybase. if so could you please share with some example.
    We are on Adaptive Server Enterprise/15.7.0/EBF 20952 SMP ESD#4.2 /P/ia64/HP-UX B.11.31/ase157x/3262/64-bit/FBO/ .

    Hello,
    Bcp utility bulk copies data and not the schema of a database. ASE installation contains a command line tool called ddlgen (more info at SyBooks Online)
    If you have  ASE PC client then you may use PowerDesigner. This is what I would recommend to do. It is a great tool and it will do the task you described

    May be you should use 'object type', 'begin date' and 'end date' as the key combination. Try this. May be helpful.

    I am using SSMA to migrate data from sybase to sql. when I select the tables in sybase, I am getting

    Could some please help me how to fix this error?

  • How to use the table maintenance events for validating the input entries..?

    Hi,
    I have created a Z table with 6 fields in which all are KEY fields. All are of CHAR type. I have created the Table Maintenance Generator for the same. While maintaining the entries in the table, even though I maintain a blank entry for a field it is saving the entry. But, I don't want that way. All the fields are mandatory in my table. One should enter all the fields. Otherwise it should not allow to save the entry. So, I think it can be done using the Table Maintenance Events. can someone tell me how to use the Table Maintenance Events. and which event to use for my reuqirement and what is the logic to be written.
    Or Is there any other way to solve my problem.
    Please share your inputs. Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    paddu.

    In the table maintenance generator, Environment --> Modifications --> Events then a screen will be appear here,we need to create the Events.In the EVENTS screen, press new Entries, there give 01(Before Saving the Data in the Database) and give a name(This will become a PERFORM), then click the Editor pushbutton, this will be there at the right side of the entry, then a popup will be appear, you can create an include program, there inside of the include program write ur code.
    Here is documentation for Event 01(Before Saving the Data in the Database )
    Event 01: Before Saving the Data in the Database
    Use
    This event occurs before new, changed or deleted entries are written to the database. Other activities can be performed, for example:
    hidden entry processing
    fill hidden fields
    flag data to be written to hidden tables after the database change.
    To have the changes saved by the central maintenance dialog routines, SY-SUBRC must be set to 0 at the end of the routine.
    Realization
    This event has no standard routine. The following global data is available for the realization of the user routine:
    internal table TOTAL
    field symbols
    field symbols <ACTION> and <ACTION_TEXT>
    <STATUS>-UPD_FLAG
    If internal table data are to be changed before saving, t he changes should be made in both the internal table TOTAL and in the internal table EXTRACT.
    FORM abc.
    DATA: F_INDEX LIKE SY-TABIX. "Index to note the lines found
    LOOP AT TOTAL.
    IF <ACTION> = desired constant.
    READ TABLE EXTRACT WITH KEY <vim_xtotal_key>.
    IF SY-SUBRC EQ 0.
    F_INDEX = SY-TABIX.
    ELSE.
    CLEAR F_INDX.
    ENDIF.
    (make desired changes to the line TOTAL)
    MODIFY TOTAL.
    CHECK F_INDX GT 0.
    EXTRACT = TOTAL.
    MODIFY EXTRACT INDEX F_INDX.
    ENDIF.
    ENDLOOP.
    SY-SUBRC = 0.
    ENDFORM.

    Joy.

  • Bulk-copy from Sybase View into a File using Java Runtime...help !!!

    The following is a bulk-copy operation, from a table in Sybase database into a file in Unix machine.
    bcp view_name out file_name -c -U user_id -P password -S server_name
    This bulk-copy utility is working fine when run from command line of a Unix machine, for any number of records.
    But when I try to do it from a Java application for more than 1.84 lakh records in the view, the following problem occurs.
    The file is created and from the view, 1.84 lakh records are copied into the file.
    Then the program hangs.
    The application waits for the bulk-copy process to be completed, which does not resume after copy of 1.84 lakh records.
    No exceptions are thrown.
    Even for just one record more than 1.84 lakh records, this happens.
    The number of bytes corresponding to 1.84 lakh records many records are 11040060.
    This is the bulk-copy portion of the application.
    String strCommand = "bcp view_name out file_name -c -U user_id -P password -S server_name";
    Runtime run = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process proc = run.exec(strCommand);
    int i = proc.waitFor();
    I am capturing InterruptedException, IOException and the superset Exception also.
    Pls throw some light on this.

    Sorry to bother you, but I saw this topic you posted on the Sun Java Forum and was wondering if you were ever able to resolve it.
    I am experiencing the exact same problem and was hoping to get it resolved soon.
    Thanks in advance!

Location defined for sybase database through connector which refers to database link created from oracle to sybase. While defining location on clicking of "Test" it gives result as successful. But when validation program is run for that location, it gives error that validation failed, specify correct host name, port number etc.. now, i am not able to solve this as database link is working fine and it is displaying list of table from sybase database. All the heterogeneous settings are done. I tried but sybase database doesn't allow direct connectivity so i define the location using connector which points to database link. Is there any thing missing in the setting of HS and do sybase allow connectivity direct from owb ?
    Please help.
    (If problem is not clear, please spare time to ask a question, i will reply immediately.)
    With Regards,
    Amit Shah.
