Hide .mac status icon from menu bar - how do I do it?

Title says it all.
I want to hide the .mac status icon from the menu bar but can't seem to find a setting anywhere.
Anyone got any ideas/
Thanks
Marc

Hi MarcMc,
Welcome to Apple Discussions!
To remove the .Mac sync status indicator from the menu bar, open System Preferences > .Mac, click the Sync tab and uncheck the 'Show status in menu bar' checkbox.
To remove the iChat status indicator from the menu bar, open iChat's preferences and uncheck the 'Show status in menu bar' checkbox in the General pane.
Most menu bar icons can also be removed by holding down the Command (Apple) key and dragging them away from the menu bar.

I have dragged anything to do with creative cloud into the trash. The icon is still on my menu bar, how can I remove it?

    Hi Helpme2015,
I believe you have only trashed Adobe products from Applications. There is a slightly different procedure to remove Adobe products from MAC but since you have trashed the Applications already, we would have to follow the lengthy way around to remove the Adobe products now. Please follow the below mentioned steps and suggest.
    1)      Delete all the Adobe folders available within /Library/Application Support/
    2)      Delete all the Adobe folders available within /Library/preferences
    3)      Delete all the Adobe folders available within ~/Library/Application Support/
    4)      Delete all the Adobe folders available within ~/Library/Preferences/
    5)      Delete files and programs from within Application & Utilities .

  • Status icons in menu bar flickering

Since installing Mac OS X 10.7.2 on my 15" MacBook Pro (early 2011), the status icons in de menu bar are constantly flickering.
This is a video of the icons flickering: http://tinypic.com/r/314qopc/7 .
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Simon.

    I'm having the same problem.
The only way to stop the flickering is to:
Go to spotlight in system preferences.
    Click on Privacy
    Click the "+" button
select Your hard drive from the drop down menu
This should stop the flickering but it does mean you can't search in spotlight. I've also found that if you try and use the dictionary the dictionry app will crash. Also if you 3 finger tap a word in safari to define it safari will also crash. But it is a temperary solution for the flickering.
    Hope this helps

  • Removing 3rd Party Icon from Menu Bar

Just switched from being a PC user for years to Mac.  I have a 21.5 in iMac and I thought it was  a good idea to install an anti-virus program, in this case McAfee security (Mac Trial Version).  I did not like how I could not access some websites (www.cnn.com, www.yahoo.com, etc).  I tried to drag-n-drop any files using Finder with the name "McAfee" into Trash, but the old McAfee icon is still sitting on the menu bar.  To remove it, I tried the "Command key/drag off the menu bar" move, but it would not work.  I tried starting the activity monitor and I noticed a file called McAfee reporter.  Even forcing it to close does not work as it reappears on its own after a few seconds.  Finally, I attempted to edit the start-up menu (Apple icon--> System Preferences --> Users --> Log-In Items), but the program does not exist in that menu.  I also resorted to restarting the Mac three different times, and the dreaded icon still appears.  It's not affecting performance, but I hate clutter and I want this icon removed from my menu bar.  If anyone has any advice on this issue, please let me know.  I have also sent an e-mail in to McAfee, but I doubt they will be able to help unless they are proficient Mac users.

I am not sure if this will help anybody in the future, but here is what I discovered on the McAfee community forums.  This worked for me (OS X 7.2), but bring up your Terminal window (Launchpad --> Utilities --> Terminal) and follow these directions.  The password they are referring to is the password you set up for your Mac:
    To uninstall McAfee Security:
    1. In the Terminal window, type the following
    command and press "return".
    /usr/local/McAfee/uninstallMSC
    2. When prompted, type your password and press
    "return".
    NOTE:
No characters appear when you type your
    password.
When the uninstallation process completes, a message
appears in the Terminal window stating that McAfee
Security 1.0 beta 2 version has been uninstalled
    from your computer.
I cannot take credit for this fix, but here is where I located the information.

  • Help, my Clock has disappeared from menu bar, how can I get it back ?

Can someone please tell me how to return my clock to the menu bar directly above the Mac HD icon?
I went to system preferences, clicked clock, clicked the date and Time tab and found it set on Show date and time, View in menu bar, view as analog. Under that it said show AM / PM and Show day of the week. These last two selections were printed in pale gray, not in black. On the lower left corner of this date and time tab, was an open lock. I clicked it closed in hopes this action would return my clock to the menu bar. It did not. So I clicked the lock open again. I would very much appreciate someone telling me how to return my clock to the menu bar. Thank you in advance

You should consider updating to 10.4.11,
But perhaps your Mac needs a bit of TLC:
Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.

An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Delete icon from menu bar?

hey, so after migrating info from my old mac to my new, i'm stuck with Intego Netbarrier X3, icon in the menu bar. I uninstalled netbarrier since it doesn't run on the intel chip. Anyway, I tried command, drag, but that doesn't work, it just highlights the options stating: "About your intego software.." and Netupdate X4. How do i delete this icon?

Look in the folders /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/, /Library/Menu Extras/, and ~/Library/Menu Extras/ for anything installed by NetBarrier. Not all of the folders may be present on all systems; to access a folder, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and enter the folder's path. The first folder should contain the following items in Mac OS X 10.45:
    AirPort.menu
    Battery.menu
    Bluetooth.menu
    Classic.menu
    Clock.menu
    Displays.menu
    Eject.menu
    Fax.menu
    HomeSync.menu
    iChat.menu
    Ink.menu
    IrDA.menu
    PCCard.menu
    PPP.menu
    PPPoE.menu
    RemoteDesktop.menu
    Script Menu.menu
    Sync.menu
    TextInput.menu
    User.menu
    Verizon.menu
    Volume.menu
    VPN.menu

  • Battery status icon in menu bar not changing

My battery status icon in my menu bar either does not change it's status at all, or takes a long time to change after I plug in, or unplug, my power cord.
I'm not sure what to even try. I've tried removing it from the bar and adding it back with no luck.
This seems to have happened since the latest Software Update for 10.6.5. I have Build 10H574.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Chris

After charging, my indicator stays at 100%. The only way I've found to find out the real status is to put it to sleep, then wake it up again, then stare at it for about 2 or 3 minutes until it refigures the percentage. I got this battery as a Christmas gift and installed it 3 days ago. I calibrated it per instructions. This is very annoying. I can never quite relax because I'm afraid it's about to run down to zero.
I'm on a Macbook Pro pre-2008. My new battery came from the Apple store. It's my 3rd battery on this computer and I've never had this problem before. (I hope you find the answer. I rarely go to the Genius Bar, but I've been there twice this week for other issues--I feel like a knucklehead going back a third time so soon). If I find a solution, I'll try to post it here.

  • Removing Samsung Printer Icon from Menu Bar (ML-2510)

I installed drivers for a Samsung ML-2510 and now I've got this unsightly icon on the desktop. I thought I uninstalled the drivers and now I've still got this icon taking up valuable screen real estate.
I checked the startup items for my sole login profile and none refer to anything remotely like this.
What's more frustrating is that the icon is sort of ghosted out - clicking it does nothing. Command clicking does nothing. It's just annoying and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for removing.

I was able to remove it. (Should have done a little research on the Samsung site first.)
Stupid way to remove, but you need to use the installation program.... just to remove the icon from the desktop.
Poorly crafted drivers make me want to scream. Why must I have their crappy icon on the menu bar?

  • Removing plugin icons from menu bar

    Hi everyone
I installed a qloud plugin for itunes, but then uninstalled it. Now, every time I open itunes, a 'my music' icon appears on the menu bar. I want to remove it but haven't yet been able to. I tried holding command and removing it, but the next time I went onto iTunes, it came back. The icon has not been installed into the /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/ folder either. Has anyone got any ideas of how to get rid of this icon??

  • Remove private app icon from menu bar in Lion

  • Bluetooth icon in menu bar, how to remove?

I have a Ti 500 PB. I exchanged HD's with my son's Al PB for a while (long story). Well we exchanged HD's back and now I have the bluetooth icon in the menu bar. How do I remove it since in system preferences there is no bluetooth preference to set it up? This PB does not have bluetooth. I am sure there is a terminal command to do this, I didn't see anything in CockTail.

Click on it with the Command key held down and drag it out of the menu bar.

    hi,
I am not sure whether we can completely hide these icons from the user.
But there is a workaround to disable these icons.
    CMC > Applications > Web Intelligence > Your Group > Assign Security > Advanced > Add/Remove Rights > Application > Web Intelligence
    Deny the following
    - Data Tracking: Enable for users
    - Data Tracking: Enable format display changes by users
    - Enable drill mode

  • Unwanted MobileMe icon in menu bar

    This is what I did:
I went online and ordered a power adapter replacement for my iPhone. I was asked for my Mac Support username and pw.
Then, after doing so, the MobileMe icon suddenly appears on my menu bar. (I've never subscribed to this).
I then went to system prefs then MoblileMe (wanting to remove said icon from menu bar). I was told that I had changed my password and that I should type in my new one (?). I tried a few of my pw's (for the heck of it) to no avail. I'm now unable to get into MobileMe prefs and I seem to be stuck staring at this (ugly) icon. I checked my keychains, nothing.
(I did do the 6-month trial on .Mac when I got my MB last Feb. but I wasn't into it. The pw I had for that's not working either.)
    Any suggestions?

This is the iSync forum. The MobileMe forums are here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=116
Anyway, an 'ugly' MobileMe icon in your menu bar? Do you mean the Sync icon, which looks like 2 arrows in a circular formation?
If so, to get rid of it just hold down the command key (to the left of the space bar) and drag it out of the menu bar.

  • Why is there a sync icon on the menu bar how can i get it off?

That is from thw Address book. you have set up sync with Google or Yahoo. Open the Address book and then Preferences you find where to turn it off or hide the icon.
