Hide username&password in SCP

Hi all, suppose we have to configure automatic backup
Router(config)#archive
Router(config-archive)#path scp://username:password@hostname
Router(config-archive)#write memory
Is there any way to hide username and password in config?

Not sure there is a way to do this as the router is being the client in this scenario. If you can make it the server, then there are some options:

• How to hide username/password in JDBC program.

hi All,
The support tat I get here is simply gr8.
Can someone suggest or send me a link as to how I hide the username /password ....i.e database connection in the jdbc program so as to avoid changing the program everywhere in case username and passwd changes ?????
I simply want to change the following code
String driverName = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
Class.forName(driverName).newInstance();
// Create a connection to the database
Sring serverName = "127.0.0.1";
String portNumber = "1521";
String sid = "oratest";
String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@" + serverName + ":" + portNumber + ":" + sid;
String username = "scott";
String password = "tiger";
connection = DriverManager.getConnection(url, username, password);
Ta,

well i kind of support what my fellow poster neeelima.srtidhar said..
Use of Connection Pooling via JNDI which is either provided by appln server or using custom built frameworks is the best method which i can think of instead of reinventing the wheel by creating a Properties file and then writing a Utility Class which ultimately endup in creating connection Object without any sort of optimal usage.
checkout the below articles for reference of how to do it.
http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html

and if you are thinking of reinventing those that could be possible using the below article

• How can I hide the password and user name in url???

Hi experts,
I'm creating a login page and know I have a problem.
The Username and password are verified in a Java class, after checking the user and password, the user should be linked to the portal.
So far everything has worked well.
But when I call the lin like this
res.sendRedirect ("/ irj / portal j_user =" + UserN + "& j_password =" + passw);
then the user name and Pwasswort appears in the url.
Can someone tell me how can I hide the password and user name???
It will be very helpful.
Thank you

If there is no specific reason that you have to use sendredirect...thne you can try request.forward.....
RequestDispatcher rd = request.getRequestDispatcher("pathToResource");
      rd.forward(request, response);

• Router No Asking For Username/Password

Having just upgraded from a WRT54G to a E2500 all I can say is that I'm disappointed with Cisco.
Having spent a few hours yesterday trying to resolve issues via Live Chat (ID 130105-001270 & 130105-002081) and spending more time today - I'm truly at wits end. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable with computers and networking.
I'm not sure if anyone from Cisco's Tech staff sees these posts but I don't know where else to "complain" in hopes that the next software/firmware update resolves these problem(s).
The first is my router's setup screens are totally open when using my desktop. The desktop is hardwired to the router and has the Cisco Connect software installed. I open the Cisco software and go to advanced settings. There I'm shown what my router's name is and its password. This is really strange - why would you wish to display this information PRIOR to requesting usename and password? However, once there you can go right into the setup screens by clicking OK.
I have also entered these screens directly without being prompted for username/password by using 192.168.1.1 or myrouter.local via Internet Explorer 8 or Google Chrome. At other times I am denied access because IE cannot display page.
I'm concerned because I can hide the Cisco Connect software however, anyone that uses my desktop has full access to my router via the web or Cisco Connect.
The second issue is that the password to enter the router and allow access to the internet IS THE SAME! When I had my WRT54G running I had one password (8 alpha characters) to enter setup screens. There was a router generated, 16 alpha/numeric character, password to allow outside devices such as laptops, TVs and game consoles access to the internet. When I set this router up I installed the 16 character password originally used so my laptop and Wii could connect without having to fool around with their settings. Everything was fine until I went into administration and changed the password to my old 8 character one. That is when I found out that the router uses this password setting under administration to control access to the internet AND access to the router settings!
I have uninstalled and reinstalled IE 8. I have ensured that my browser's history and caches are clear which they do when I shut IE down. I'm running Windows XP service pack 3 with the "proper" anti-virus and anti-malware software. My system is up-to-date.
I have ensured that the router is running the latest firmware 1.0.05 build 2 and software 1.4.11299.0.
I have seen other posts suggesting the removal of Cisco Connect however, I feel that this is a bandaid solution.
I'm not professing  to be a router technician however, I "feel" the problem might be the fact that the password issue is the problem. Since the same one is being used for both accessing the router and having the router grant access to the net, my desktop is allowed to access the setup screens without being prompted for username and password.
Again I hope SOMEONE from Cisco sees this and investigates.
Thanks for allowing me to "rant".
Dave

Thank you zee29 for the reply however, when I change the router password under administration I'm presented with a screen that says the router's password has been changed on my next Cisco Connect startup. I click OK and then I'm presented with a screen that says BOTH passwords must be the same. This is crazy. My router is not secure on my desktop. Anyone who uses my desktop and wants to "fish" around can enter my router's settings without being presented with a password prompt.
And I'm still presented with the problem of connecting via 192.168.1.1. or myrouter.local using IE 8 in which a "page cannot be displayed" message appears. I can log in via Google Chrome however, once I enter the username and password once I'm able to access router without being prompted. The network isn't totally secure.
I have seen other posts where these Cisco routers are having "problems" when using IE. It would seem to me that Cisco would want to rectify this situation. Its not like I'm running a beta operating system that Cisco is not aware of. I'm running an XP system that is totally updated.
I've been running Linksys/Cisco routers for years and have never had these problems. If these "problems" continues I will have no choice but to purchase a router from another company such as Netgear and say goodbye to Cisco.
I want and need a SECURE network.

• OMBPlus: masking usernames / passwords in log files with ********?

Hi all,
Subjects says it: how to hide username and password in OMBPlus logs.
Any ideas...?
Br: Ykspisto

I don't use default OMB+ logging for this reason, plus I often want more robust logging. I also built a wrapper for executing OMB+ statements to simplify my exception handling in my main scripts. By catching both the return string from a statement as well as the exception strings, I keep full control over what gets logged.
HEre is the meat of my main library file:

Most of the referenced variables are held in a config script that we use to define our current working environment, which I am not attaching as the names are pretty descriptive I think.

• Hide the password "sqlplus log/pass"

Hi,
I am using the following command and running through the shell script.
Unix Prompt> sqlplus abc/abc @sqlplus_settings.sql
Now when I do ps -ef |grep abc. It shows me the username and password "abc".
How can hide the password
Thanks and regards
KP
null

1. you could put the username/password as
the first line of u're sqlscript.
2. or use the following syntax in unix ksh
sqlplus << END_OF_SQLPLUS_CMDS
username/password
@sqlplus_settings.sql
END_OF_SQLPLUS_CMDS
unfortunately the above ksh will exit once it executes sqlplus_setting.sql ..so is only useful for running batch scripts
3. if u're purpose (as it seems from the name of u're script ) is to set some initial sql*plus settings like linesize ,pagesize etc...then try using login.sql SQL*Plus always looks for this script in the current dir or the ORACLE_PATH and runs it as it connects to a session.

• Username/password displayed in Titile bar

Hi:
I have successfully managened to encrypt the username and password in the "address bar" of the Internet Explorer while report is displayed when destype=HTMLCss. But when destype=PDF, the username and passowrd is displayed in the "TITLE BAR" of the Internet explorer browser, though it is encrypted in the "address bar".
If I choose destype=HTMLCss instead of PDF, such probelm does not arise. But I want my reports to be displayed in PDF!
Can anyone suggest me how do I hide username and password entirely ?
Thanks,
Ashish

Hi Ashish,
The best way to avoid displaying the username/password in the browser is to use the cgicmd.dat file.

hide.c
DESCRIPTION
Hides arguments for programs on UNIX systems.
Can be used as a program prefix: hide program arguments
or as a symbolic link. If this program is not invoked as hide, it
will hide its arguments and invoke the program name.hide
The best way to use this is to rename your critical programs to
program.hide, and create a symbolic link program to hide.
mv sqlplus sqlplus.hide; ln -s hide sqlplus
Thus when sqlplus is invoked, its arguments will be hidden
NOTES
This program works by padding 3000 '/' chars in argv[0]. This fools
all known ps's. This will reduce the argument capacity of your
program by 3000 chars. A good enhancement would be to reduce the
padding if needed so that no arguments are lost - would require a
method of determining the max argument size on the system. Some
system's provide the E2BIG error on exec.
There is some performace penalty for using this program, but it is
minimal because this program is so small - the biggest cost is the
extra exec required to get this program started.
HISTORY

* If hide could not execvp the program, give an error message.

• Error when starting Firefox 3.6. "Javascript Application error. Invalid username/password combination. If you continue to get this error, try entering your email address as your username." Any suggestions on what to look for to resolve this?

When starting Mozilla Firefox 3.6, I get an error window which opens up additionally overtop my browser windows stating:
"Javascript Application"
followed with :
"Invalid username/password combination. If you continue to get this error, try entering your email address as your username."
Obviously it is happening with one of my email addresses/usernames & password combinations of which I know the username for (which I choose not to post here) and I'm not sure where to begin looking for a resolution to this problem.

I was able to resolve this by disabling (under Tools - Add-ons) Yahoo! Mail Notifier
Hope this helps some of you also!

• Using SSO username/password in java portlet for Database Connection

Hi all,
We implemented java portlet with environment Oracle Application server 10.1.2 and Portal 10.1.4
At present we are picking the database username and password and connect string in properties and our
java class is reading the properties file and connecting to database to fetch the records.
Our idea is to not to pick the username/password and connect string from the properties file or
not to configure the datasource in data_source.xml.
Our Requirement is who ever login to the Portal(SSO) our java class should pick the sso username/password and
connect to database to fetch the record(s).
Because our database users are one to one mapped to sso user(s) of portal.
We request anyone to guide us how can we do it or suggest any suitable solution for our requirement.
Thanks
Dan Tey

I think this is a no-go, since you cannot retrieve a cleartext password from the OID if I'm correct.

• How do I setup Forms not to ask RAD username/password when opening a form

Good day
I have setup oid and sso and they work I can sign on to database with an oid user using sqlplus.
If I set SsoDynamicResourceCreate=true and enter the user id and password in at the popup it works correct and won’t even ask it again
What I want to know how can set portal to use a RAD/DAS without prompting for a username password.
We need to do this for all +/- 30000 users and if so how do we do it pragmatically.
I think because I don’t have much APPS experience I basically don’t know where this must be set globally
APPS is version 10.1.2

Got solution in metalink note 262686.1
Goto <infrastructure :port>/oiddas
Click Configuration Tab
Click Preference Tab
Create Default RAD for database

• How do I use my WET54g with a wireless system that asks for username & password

Hotels and other systems let you use theiur wireless for a fee.  You go onto your wireless laptop, and it automatically goes to a page where you pay and sign up (or it asks for a username and password), once that is done, you can use the network.
How do I allow my WET54g to know this password information, and work on the network?
thanks
Michael

The WET54g allows you to accept a wireless signal and connect it to a wired hub.  I want to intercept the wireless signal and use it on my hub.
I know I can use one computer if I connect to the signal using my laptop's wireless card, but I want the WET54g to accept the signal.
For example, currently at my office, I use the WET54g to intercept a wireless signal from the front of my building, to the back of my building about 300ft away (this way I didnt have to run wires).  The WET54g then is hooked up to a hub/switch where I have a bunch of other computers/servers.  Everything from the front of my building and back of the building are joined using this WET54g.  The WET54g is set up to find the signal from the front of my building, and therefore it works fine.
I want to use the hotel signal, the same way, except there is no way to enter in the username/password into the WET54g, or maybe there is..  Does this make sense to you?

• A1 returning "username/password incorrect" messages on websites

I can't find other posts with this problem so I hope I don't show my ignorance here, but I can't believe I am the only one...
I recently purchased an IdeaPad A1-07 running Android 2.3.4. I attempted to update the system right out of the box, but the updater reported that I was up to date, so that should be set (I would think...). I downloaded the Netflix app from the Andriod app store (the A1 did not include it preloaded), and attempted to launch it. It launched fine into the login screen, but when entering the login info, the app returned a incorrect username/password error. I confirmed the info by logging in on through my PC to the Netflix site. I un-installed then re-installed the app with the same result. I then attempted to go to the website through the A1 browser and login there. Same result. Panicking, I attempted to use the A1 browser to login to FaceBook. Same result.
Here is the strangest part: I attempted to login to the same websites using the browser on my HTC Android Incredible 2 running Android 2.3.4, and was able to login in successfully to both sites.
Does anyone know what is going on here and how to fix it? This is a real deal breaker for me since I purchased this tablet specifically to use  with sites like Netflix and FaceBook, and I really don't know what else to do other than to try to return it and get a refund. Please help!
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Success! The GO keyboard app pre loaded by Lenovo wasn't the problem, but the input settings (Auto Capitalization, display suggestions, auto complete, auto space and key correction) were. Display suggestions probably wasn't part of the issue, but its just plain annoying, so I turned that off as well. I suspect that one of the other "auto" features was slipping in a character or space or two behind my back. I turned them all off, and no longer have an issue. I suspect that it was only one of them, but I would have had to run multiple experiments to narrow down the culprit, and I really don't want to bother. None of those things help me more than they hinder me anyway.
Find the settings under: settings/language & ketboard settings/Go keyboard for Lenovo/input setting. Good luck!
