Hiding Flash files in one icon

Hello,
I'm a newbie to this forum and a novice at Flash, having used
the program for 3 years now. I was always interested in the
creative and design quality level people have taken, using Flash,
so that's why I took a class in the program during college. I never
thought I would ever use Flash again because it was and still is a
difficult program (I've learned it takes A LOT of patients and hard
thinking to work), but I enjoyed what could be produced once I got
through the hard, tedious stuff. So, that's my story....
Of course, I have a question to bare.
I just finished a slide show/movie of art pieces for client.
Now, I want to save it as a CD-ROM file. Having taken a class in
Director MX as well, it was very similar to Flash MX (this is the
version I produced the slideshow/movie in) and I barely remember
one of my projects where I had to create a Director movie and save
the files in one icon (did that make sense?). In other words, with
the numerous files that were produced from my movie (like in Flash
where you have various saved scenes), I had to create one icon that
would hold the files, so that the end user would only see that icon
(instead of the various files) and click on it to start the movie.
I guess you can say it was more of hiding the files in a icon. This
is what I'm trying to do with my Flash slideshow/movie. I have the
swf. file that has the complete slideshow/movie, but I'm not sure
if this is enough or do I have to go through a process to create a
icon to open the slideshow.
Hope all that I've written made any kind of sense and any
help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes you want all the files into one EXE right ? i.e one ICON.
You can use FlashJester Jugglor and hide all the other files
into the
Additional Files section in Jugglor.

  • Create two or more flash files from one (Excel) data source

    Hi experts,
I have the following requirement about Xcelsius.
Our data source is a relational database. Via the ODBC driver we manage to create several queries and execute them into Microsoft Excel. Those excel sheets are the basic for the Xcelsius reports.
Now we want to build some highly visualized reports on that, but the crucial fact is. We don't want to have all the reports in one FlashFile, but we need several flash file depending on the area of the queries.
Hence our requirement would be one of the following points:
    - create multiple flash files from one .xlf
    - create multiple .xlf from data source
Another requirement is the automatic execution of the process. We don't want to have a person in between, who has to call all the .xlf files to create the Flash reports step by step. What we need is an automatic process.
Can this requirement be fulfilled in a way?
Maybe by using the Xcelsius SDK?
Thanks for any helps and comments!
    Sebastian

    Sebastian,
Firstly talking about the important requirement i.e. automating the process:
In your case you can achieve this by using the XML maps. This will pick the data automatically when ever report is refreshed.
Secondly, both the approaches are correct, however i would go with the first one.
    1. Create multiple flash files from one .xlf
You just need to create one dashboard and have a filter on areas (Invisible) and then export to flash (for every area).
    2. Create multiple .xlf from data source
This approach is also fine, however you need to create multiple dashboards and do the same thing i.e filter data based on area.
P.S. Did you get a chance to explore options to integrate Xcelsius with your Relational Database, this will be much effective.

  • Obtaining the full file path specification from Flash Movie and QuickTime icons?

How do you obtain the full file path specification from Flash
Movie and QuickTime icons? I want the path and the file name that
is contained in these icons. I am using a "dive" to run through the
icons of a file, and when I come upon these two types of icons, I

certainly can look in the property dialog box to get this info, but

  • White screen with flashing file icon with question mark mean

What does this mean.   We are getting a white screen with flashing file icon with question mark inside the file.

It almost certainly means it can't find a bootable volume (one with OS X on it).
Which means most likely you will have to find your original system installation DVD and install it. Then you should figure out what caused the problem.
Read this to diagnose it before resorting to reinstalling the OS:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440
    Excerpt:
    Additional steps
If your Mac still starts to a flashing question mark, follow the steps below. If any step resolves the issue, you don't need to continue to the next one.
Select your Mac OS X startup disk with Startup Manager by restarting and holding the Option key. After your Mac starts up, restart again to verify that the flashing question mark does not appear.
If the issue persists, insert your Mac OS X installation disc. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc.
MacBook Air note: On a MacBook Air, there are two options for starting up from Mac OS X media: Either connect a MacBook Air SuperDrive to the MacBook Air via the USB port and restart the computer, holding down the C key during startup, or use Remote Install Mac OS X to startup from a system software DVD that's located on a partner computer. Once started up from Mac OS X media, skip to step 3.
Restart the computer, then hold the C key during startup.
From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility. Don't click Continue.
Select your Mac OS X disk (named "Macintosh HD" by default) in the left side of the Disk Utility window.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click Repair Disk to verify and repair any issues with your Mac OS X startup disk.
After repairing the disk, try to start up normally.
Important: If Disk Utility finds issues it cannot repair, you may need to back up as much of your data as possible (or use Time Machine to back up to a different disk), then erase the disk and reinstall Mac OS X. You should back up important files and data before erasing a drive. Erasing deletes everything on the hard disk (including things on your desktop). Also, you can install Mac OS X onto an external disk, start from the external disk, and use Migration Assistant to transfer items from your usual internal Mac OS X startup disk to the external disk, then erase the internal disk and reinstall Mac OS X.
If the issue persists, and Disk Utility didn't find any irreparable issues, quit Disk Utility, quit the Installer, select your disk when prompted, and restart.
If the issue continues, reset PRAM. Note: After resetting PRAM, if the computer starts up normally, reselect the startup disk in the Startup Disk preferences.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, start up from the Mac OS X Installation disc and reinstall Mac OS X.

  • Flashing file icon w/ question mark at start up

My MacBook had been working fine on Tiger since I bought it last august, and a few months ago I installed Leopard, which also worked great except for safari freezing up every once in a while. But today when I tried to start it up and the blue screen appeared, it stayed like that for about ten seconds, and then a flashing file icon with a question mark appeared. I have no idea what it means, I can't make it startup. I've turned it on and off a few times, hoping for the best, but nothing. This computer is not even a year old, any help?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Apple boards:
Your first hint that something was wrong was when Safari started freezing.
You may have a bad HD or at least one that is going bad.
Boot into the Leopard DVD and in the menu select Utilities and disk utility and repair HD and permissions.
    See if that helps.
You may need more powerful tools such as DiskWarrior to repair the drive if it's flaky.
If the computer is less than a year old, you may be able to get it fixed at a local Apple store.

  • How can I move an icon/file from one screen of my ipad to another?

  • Hi I installed a new hard drive in my Mac mini osx lion an when I turn it on I get a flashing file with a question mark. I tried holding command and R keys when turning it on but the recovery fails to work. Does any one know how I can get it to recover?

Hi I installed a new hard drive in my Mac mini osx lion an when I turn it on I get a flashing file with a question mark. I tried holding command and R keys when turning it on but the recovery fails to work. I can hold the option key at start up and choose my network, then Internet recovery shows up with an arrow pointing up. When I click on the arrow Internet recovery fails and all I get is a globe with a triangle on it with an exclamation mark on it, and under that it says
    apple.com/support
          -6002F
Does any one know how I can fix this without a recovery disc? Thanks

I just want to add to this, in case someone else searches for this error on Apple Support (google doesnt cover apple support.. how clever is that?)
I had the same error. And i had a Computer that had worked, with a SSD drive and 16GB upgrade done by the owner himself.
I tried swapping with a Mechinal Harddrive, no luck.
Kept the Mechanical drive in, and tried with some other Ram, it worked..
So for me this error and after reading the other responses can be boiled down to a Harddrive problem or Ram issue.
    It was Ram for me..

  • Start up problem.....flashing file icon

    Problem:
    1) few days ago I configured computer for ethernet link between crt imac and powerbook.
    2) Now when I start up on the crt only, I get a flashing globe on a square which turns to a flashing file with a question mark in it. And the start up never goes any further.
    3) Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this. thx
    raleric

You'll need an OS CD to boot the old machine. There's some problem with the system folder which may or may not have anything to do with your recent configurations. It may be as simple as booting from CD, resetting the hard drive as startup disk, and going from there.
Another issue may be that you set your old machine to automatically connect to the newer at startup. This is an option when setting up file sharing. What happens if the other machine is ON before you start the older one?

  • Flash file, clicks not working in one environment

    Hi everyone,
I have produced files using Captivate 2, that have output as .exe. These work perfectly across all of our sites, except one.
The only issue with the site where the files are not working is:
    - Click box within the Flash file do not progress to the next page
I have output with 'Playback control' and the users at the site in question are able to progress through along the Playback bar. However, I only placed this in for the purposes of testing the file. The final files need to not have the 'Playback control'.
Does anyone know what I can do differently, to ensure the click boxes work on this site in question?
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Ravi Sandhu

    Hi Ravi
I'm not sure I fully understand your question. You seem to be saying a Click Box isn't working. But you say the "Click Box within the Flash File". I'm not sure if this means you have used Flash to create a button or something that you are trying to use with Captivate or if you simply mean that you have used Captivate to create a SWF, and inside that SWF the Click Box doesn't seem to work.
What would be helpful is if we could see the project first hand. Are you able to post the .CP file for us to download and view? If that's not possible, what about posting a screen capture of the slide with the issue where we can see the entire timeline and all objects.

  • Flashing File Icon with Question Mark Upon Start-Up

Today when I went to use my computer (which was already on) it went blank and then came up with a gray screen with a flashing file icon with a question mark in the middle of it. I have already troubleshot things with several forums online and nothing has worked. I have tried to restart in Safe mode, single user mode, verbose mode, and tried to get on using my option key which got me to an internet login screen finally. I tried to log in and eventually got to an apply.com/support screen with -1007f underneath. I am not 100% which operating system I am on. I know that it is Mac OS X and pretty recent. Please respond if you can help!

  • Got a white screen with flashing file icon

Why do I have a white screen with flashing file icon with question mark inside?

It means your iMac cannot located a valid system to boot.
Insert the CD that came with the iMac and allow it to boot. Once it gets the point where it's offering to install the OS, go to the top menu and choose diskutility. Perform a repair on the main drive "Macintosh HD".

  • Controlling one flash file from an embed one

I have built 2 flash files - one with all of the content, and
one with all of the menu buttons, (I did this so I can update the
"buttons.swf" file without having to edit the "content.swf" file).
I have no problem loading the "buttons.swf" file using the
loadMovie function, but I don't even know where to start when
trying to control the "content.swf" file.
The buttons should be able to control the gotoAndPlay
function of the "content.swf" file so they can control the pages
that appear in the "content.swf" file.
How would I go about doing this, and where would I need to
add the code? Into the "buttons.swf" file, the "content.swf" file,
both, or is it even possible?
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi Ned,
I'm using the attached code, where btnholder_mc is the
instance name of the box to hold "buttons.swf"
Using this code "buttons.swf" loads correctly, however, I
don't know how to make this movie control the gotoAndPlay function
    of "content.swf".
I should mention that "buttons.swf" has 7 different buttons
within it, each of which I would like to load a different page
within "content.swf". I don't know if this is doable, but I'm
trying to do it as such so I only have to update 1 file full of 7
buttons, rather than 7 different files, each with their own button
(for the purposes of changing themes/design/etc.)
I know that if I loaded each individual button as a movie I
could place an onRelease listener to each to run the gotoAndPlay
function, but I want to avoid having 7 different button movies. Any
    ideas?

  • Flashing File icon with '?' does NOT mean your HDD is shot!

A week ago my computer failed and started up showing the flashing file icon with the '?' at startup. I ran all the diagnostics that every forum told me to. I even reset the PRAM. So I went to the mac store and they told me it was probably the HDD but that it could be just the SATA cable but there was no way to tell unless I had another HDD. So I went out and bought a 500GB for $65 and installed it. Sure enough the problem was only my SATA cable. Apple sold it and installed it for only $32. They also installed OS X for free.

I'm currently having the same problem. Flashing ? folder..troubleshooting..etc. According to everything I've read, it seems like my HDD is shot. When I boot from my OSX disc, I can't detect the HDD to install, restore, or anything. Yet, I've taken the hard drive out and it spins normally when I boot or launch the OSX disc. Do you still think it could just be the SATA cable?

  • Multiple projects, yet one flash file launched from browser

Hello everyone, I glad to be a part of this wonderful community.  I have a really sticky Captivate 4 problem, and I wanted to get my feelers out there now before I really need to get this done before the end of the week.  This question has to do with publishing.  I have 7 project files, and I created a "menu" slide at the end of each of them that look exactly the same.  In this particular slide, there are 7 'click boxes' spread throughout the page that launch all the other projects.  If you are wondering why I did this, it's because I'm trying to cut back on load time when a user click on any individual project.  Now, my programmer can only launch one .swf file from our webpage to get the first project started.  So, does this mean Captivate will dynamically handle launching all of the other projects(assuming multiple flash files are created) when they are launched from these "menu" slides?  I'm a bit confused.  I'm likely confusing some of you as well.  It is hard to put the problem into writing.  Please help!

Okay, so lets look at the problem, shall we?
You created seven projects. But you later asked:
So, does this mean Captivate will dynamically handle launching all of the other projects (assuming multiple flash files are created) when they are launched from these "menu" slides?
First off, with seven different projects, you end up with seven different outputs. Assuming you are using Captivate in the basic form, you will end up with seven different SWF files and seven different HTM files that need to be factored into things. You may have more files than that, depending on your options used.
When you create the links using the Click Boxes, hopefully you used the option: Open other project. This means that when the user clicks, the other SWF/HTM or EXE (depending on output) will be launched.
I'm sure you will have other questions. So just post back either in threads of their own or by replying to this thread.
    Cheers... Rick
