Hiding transparent Flash layer to allow right clicks

Hi all
Working
example!
I have created a page in Dreamweaver with transparent flash
content. My problem is when I position my mouse over the
transparent area to copy text or click a link nothing happens, and
when I right click over the transparent area I get the regular
Flash menu!
I have placed a my swf Menu in my HTML page using the Draw AP
Div tool.

yeah, ZINC is a great app and allows you to get the
functionality of a desktop application. Another way to possilby do
it is by creating a AIR application in flash. I don't know that
much about AIR as of yet, but that could be another thing to look
into, an it doesn't require a 3rd party app. You may also be able
to do it using a BAT file executed through the FSCommand in
flash.

Allow right-click selection in a JTree

Hi everybody! How are today? Fine? I hope so.
I've got a little question about JTrees: i want to put a right-click popup menu on my JTree, which may not be the same depending on which node of the tree is selected.
My problem is that i must do a left click selection of the node before doing the right click in order that this one may be effective and correct (i.e the correct popup menu appears).
So, i want to allow the right click selection in my JTree to select the node and to perform the action linked to the Popup menu.
I will be very thankfull if someone could help me :)

Layer selection vis right-click in CS5

i'm not sure if this is happening to anyone else, but in CS4 when i right-click (control-click) on my canvas the contextual layer menu that popped up automatically selected the "top" most layer that appeared under my cursor. in CS5 it just throws up a list of all the layers under the cursor. it's a major pain and a huge step backwards in my workflow. as much as i'm enjoying the slightly more solid and snappy feel of a cocoa app and content aware fill, i use the right-click layer selection hundreds of times a day. as minor a feature as it is, it's a show stopper for me.
i'm hoping this is one of those "standardizing on os x behaviors" and there's a simple toggle where i can switch it back to the CS4< behavior, but so far i haven't found it.

thank you dmcalester i was about to do the exact same thing. i don't think chris was understanding the problem. yes sliding the mouse over a few pixels will put the cursor on the menu list of layers but the functionality that we are ALL wanting back is that CS4 would actually put the correct layer under your cursor in the menu list when you right clicked. CS5, using cocoa's default menu, is just giving us a list of the layers (granted a correct list) but not putting the layer we want under or near the cursor. This is why we are frustrated because it is lacking previous functionality. Please fix this as soon as possible.
In the image below you can see that the layer I am trying to select is the 'Bid Button Bar'. Notice that in CS4 the menu has shifted up slightly to put the correct layer under my cursor. This functionality is missing in CS5.
also if you have to go in and override the default OS behavior anyway, now maybe a good time to improve upon the right click listing like phase2design hinted at. i know its just a list but things like making folder stand out from layers and maybe even the thumbnail like pixelmator. i'm all for those kinds of improvements.
but even if you (the adobe team) disregard all of that, bottom line: just bring back the previous functionality of right click in the next update. i appreciate you listening to all our feedback and thank you for all your hard work to provide us with the best user experience possible

[Flash Player 9 Mac] Right-click destruction!

Has anyone else noticed that right-clicking with Flash Player
9 freezes the player visuals? Doesn't matter what you do
afterwards, simply right-click anywhere on the player window, and
you're done seeing and redraw updates. Same results on 4 out 4 Macs
tested. Anyone else on a Mac have the same issue?
At this point, I'm not worrying too much about it, as Mac
users represent a very small user base of our target market, but it
does represent 90 percent of out production platform, so its quite
a problem for us, especially when we want to incorporate some
custom right-click actions!
Players 8 and below never had this problem, that any of us
recall. It's a pretty jarring problem, completey blows up your
experience by a simple right-click 99 percent of the time.

Very strange. I'm trying it from my home computer and I'm
getting hangs and such. Even if I close the browser window (but
without Safari restart) the next pages don't work properly either.
Then after a few more clicks and such, I will get Safari just
unexpectedly quitting. All the numbers/versions I gave above are
the same between the two computers.
Additional information is that work is a 1.25 G4 tower and
home is a 1.6 G4 AlBook. At home I haven't done the 2006-008
security update yet. (And I THINK I did do that at work.) I will
try that in just a bit and see if it makes a difference.
The other thing I can think of is that we probably both have
some version of Flash installed. I don't on my machine at work.

Safari not allowing right click?

I have a fresh install of 10.4.7, whenever I start Safari, and make a spelling error, I right-click and safari gives me a beach ball of death. I also get the error whenever I try to create a new tab.
This sometimes goes away after visiting another web site, but I have to force quit Safari to obtain functionality again...
I have removed all preferences except the bookmarks, and it still happens. Any help would be appreciated on why this is going on.

What was your original OS? If it was under 10.4.0, PLEASE TELL ME! Otherwise try updating Safari in Software Update.

Why isn't right-click supported in Flash?

As far as I understand, adobe doesn't want flash player to support right-clicking for anything but a context-menu.
I'm creating a new flash game, and once again i'm trying to figure out how to create good controls without being able to use the right click in it.
Once again, it's painful and feels like adobe is giving me the middle finger here.
Why is custom action for right-clicking not supported? It's really crippling for game developers.
Will this be different in the future?

I'm guessing they originally wanted to make a statement that "user interface must be so simple that it doesnt need right click". Then they just never added the right-click because apparently game developers aren't that important for them.
I just saw some games that were made with unity 3d and got kind of envious. The games were fast enough for playing decent 3d-shooters with browser, and also: right-click.
Adobe is coming behind with some system that allows use of hardware acceleration and 3d-api, so that one should be able to make pretty fast 3d games with flash. I hope they add the other mouse buttons by then too, because 3d-game-support but no right-click support is in my opinion just dumb.
If someone knows if the right-clicking will be added later or can guess why it hasn't already, I'd love to hear.

Flash files with right click imported in dreamweaver files

Flash files created with Captivate which contain rightclick
functionality are imported to html files created in Dreamweaver. In
other words, I don't use the html created by Captivate but another
html file to build up a whole course. But now a couple of those
flash files contain a right click and obviously I have to adjust
the dreamweaver file with some of the script that William Heinz has
created. I am not an HTML expert and I am not 100% confident that I
can do with just endless try&error. Could anyone give me some
hints?
I suppose I need to use the second bit of William's article
"the more complex requirement".

I hope there is one person out there who can help me with
this issue.
I have started from scratch and created a blank html with
dreamweaver and inserted the flash file (with right click
animation) created with Captivate.
Then I made the adjustments as per Heinz and also included a
ID=Captivate1 as the RightClick.js refers to that.
The main difference between this html file and the html file
created with Captivate, is that the Captivate one also has
writedocument bit.
Anyway, is there anybody in the world who can give me
atip/hint/suggestion?????

No right click on hard drives?

I'm used to filling up my hard drive pretty regularly as I do a lot of animation and video editing. I often have to check how much space I have left on my various drives. I used to be able to right click in the finder on the hard drive and it would let me do an Info on the drive. Now I have to hit command-i. Why would they remove a time saving function? Also I can't change the dock from the menu anymore... am I missing something or have they taken two steps back again?

Oops no looks like there's a bug so that you think you're in the finder, but you're actually in an app which doesn't allow right clicking. I'm not sure what's happening yet!

When this happens, please press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and see how much RAM and CPU Firefox is using. If they're sky high, then... Well, that kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
#run Firefox in safe-mode to disable all extensions and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
#update all extensions and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#disable all extensions and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.
#enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you WANT that extension to be enabled, so keep your overall number of extensions as low as possible. Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
#do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
#disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix you issues with Firefox, proceed;
#check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't do it, I'm out of ideas. Except make sure you've followed my instructions correctly.

Right clicking on a person's email address no longer allows me to "copy email address" a feature I used a ton. How can I do this now?

Hello, We use a program called Zimbra for work which houses our email and calendar systems. I used to be able to hover over someone's email address, right click, and an option would pop up to allow me to "copy email address". This feature stopped a week or more ago and I called my business tech support and they said it is not a feature of Zimbra so perhaps it is a Firefox issue. Thought I would ask. I do a lot of copy and pasting of email addresses for our job listservs and this was a helpful feature.

Thanks Barney. Yes, duplicating the file is a work around and I will use it for now. I was hoping that I could set a preference or something to have TextEdit save new files like it used to. Not sure why a redesign would limit options for saving files. That, to me, is crazy. Using the duplicating feature means more clicks to get it to do what I used to be able to do more easy. I hate "improvements" like this to an app.
I have "Documents and Data" checked in my iCloud preferences and when I uncheck it warns me that unchecking means that if I turn it off then all documents stored in iCloud will be deleted from the Mac. Not sure if I want to do that or nor. I don't like using iCloud for storage, but I think my photos from my iphoneare on there and I am not sure I want to keep those deleted off of this Mac as I use some photos for work related items and this is a work related Mac. What do you think?
I would like to try a "save as" option, but that does not even come up when the "File" menu is selected. Using the command key does not make it appear either.
And thanks for the advice about a hidden preference for iCloud. I have not found it, but I amnot sure why they would hide such a preference either.
I switched to Mac a few years ago because they were so much better than PCs. Now, they seem to be creeping into PC **** with unnecessary changes to apps that do not make any sense to me.

Is it possible to have Flash open the menu when you right click a link?

I'm using sIFR 3 on a few of my websites. Personally I think it's a really cool and nice solution. I have had no issues with it so far except what I've recently discovered.
When you right click on a link (or control click on a mac) it should have the normal menu you'd get if you clicked on a regular HTML link. Also when you hover over the link it doesn't display the status in the status bar (i.e. the URL the link will take you to if you click it).
Anyways, I'm trying to come up with a workaround to this (personally I think the developers should have already thought of one but I guess not). That being said I'm wondering if Flash can do something like that. Is there a code I can put in the Actionscript to tell it to open up the browser menu when someone right clicks or control clicks a link?
For some reason I'm thinking this isn't possible without JavaScript but I have had some people telling me in the current version of Flash it isn't possible at all. I'd be interested in hearing everyone else's opinion.

Notice that the top navigation (and side navigation) is all done using sIFR. IF you try and right click (or control click on Mac) on one of the links you'll see nothing happens.

Probleme solved without having to change anything in the flash.
The solution was to add a small part in the CSS in HTML

Right Click then Copy To does not allow selection of My Computer in Bridge CS6

Just suddenly this started. When I right click an image in Bridge (CS6) and select Copy To, only Desktop and the main folder with my name appears - I cannot select folders and hard drives from My Computer. How do I get My Computer to show up in the window where I can Choose Folder. Am using Wn 7 64 bit. This was not an issue until today.

Continuing to research options for utilizing my Time Machine backups has led to the Pondini pages. Great stuff. In there I learned it would be possible to delete individual backups. This might allow me to get rid of the 3 backups which occured after my HD failed... backups of the new HD that are getting in the way of using Migration Assistant.
Here is my question.
In the listing of backups is a alias called Latest. It seems to be pointing to one of the backups that I want to delete. Will I cause a problem by deleting it? Or better yet, is it possible to edit this alias to point to the backup I want to use in Migration Assistant?
Status of attempts to Restore: Each attempt to restore is taking the better part of a day due to needs like sleeping and goiing to work...
Attempt 1 restore to day before HD failure worked but a strange assortment of error messages showed up indicating that the Drive failure was corrupting things
Attempt 2 restore to earlier same day... same result
Attempt 3 restore to 2 weeks earlier... same result
Attempt 4 restore to 5 months earlier... good result but l would like to get much closer
Is it possible to use Migration Assistant to utilize the "corrupt" backup?

Right Click Arrange at runtime in code? in Flash CS4 (AS3)

I was wondering if and how I can arrange movie clips in AS3 code. I want it to have the same effect as "Right Click > Arrange > Bring To Front" in the project, only during runtime and through code.

What you can do if you want right click is create a new ContextMenu and ContextMenuItem. You'll have to add a mouse click listener to each of your stage items though so you can track the last one clicked;

NOTE: You do not need to first remove the child to add it again. By adding an existing child you're simply resetting it to the top depth.
