Hierarchy derive

Hi all,
I have a problem with hierarchy derivation . I can't use standard derivation (type H) because I should use two different hierarchies (on 0ACCOUNT) in the 'Characteristic Rels' folder of the Planning Area. Since I'm allowed to use only one infocube (with two infocubes problem doesn't exist) I'm trying to use Exit type but I don't know how it works.
Has anyone suggestions or standard functions to use as reference?

Hi,
I do see entries in /n/sapapo/relhshow. I don't see how the production hierarchy (Seen in /sapspo/mat1 under the properties tab) relates to it.
There is no F1 on that field in /sapapo/mat1 unfortunatly, so it acts like a free-form text field, as far as I can see. I changed it to a random value and it allowed me to save it, so it looks like there's no validation on the field?

Product Hierarchy Derivation in COPA

Hi Gurus,
We have 6 levels of Product hierarchy defined in the system and I am able to include it in the data structure. The related Characteristics are PAPH1,PAPH2,PAPH3,PAPH4,PAPH5,PAPH6 included in my operating concern. Level 1 has 1 character in number and rest of the levels has 3 characters each in number as follows.
Level 1--1 Number of Character
Level 2--3 Number of Characters
Level 3--3 Number of Characters
Level 4--3 Number of Characters
Level 5--3 Number of Characters
Level 6--3 Number of Characters
Hence all together the total number/length is 16.
Now, when I generated the operating concern,the derivation rules for product hierarchy are created automatically as follows.
Following is the screen shot for source field if I open step number 22
The corresponding screen shot for Target field is as follows
For step 23 , the source field details are same as step 22 but target field details are as follows
We have assigned Product hierarchy in Material master in tab Sales:Sales Org 2 which is 16 digits.
Now when I try to test the derivation rule for step 22, system gives me following error

Diagnosis
The characteristic "PAPH2" ("ProdHier01-2") should be posted to Profitability Analysis (CO-PA). When the system checked the entries, it was established that the transferred characteristic value (" 010") is not valid in CO-PA.
System Response
The data is not consistent and therefore cannot be transferred to CO-PA.
Procedure
With the function Maintain Characteristic Values, you can add characteristic values to those that are valid.

I am getting the same error for all steps in test mode. How to fix this error? Do I need delete the PAPH1--PAPH6 characteristics and use the user defined characteristics and write derivation rule again? Also I want to know the use of steps 28 to 31 (clear) in this regard.
I have not included characteristic PRODH in my data structure. Do I require to include it in my Operating concern?

Hearty Thanks for the solution. As suggested by you, I removed "move" steps and defined the Table Lookup" steps.
There are two target entries i.e MVKE (Origin) table and the field name is PRODH (Product Hierarchy) which is equivalent to second target entry COPA (Origin) field (PAPH1 -----to PAPH6) in the same line.
In field PRODH,I used offset position. I selected "Entire Field Contents" and kept character position as 0 and kept total characters as 16 in each table lookup entry.
Again I have to make offset settings in PAPH1---PAPH6 fields. I selected "Entire Field Contents" tab and system automatically changed the field length for PAPH1 to PAPH6. Now the results are correct.
I arrived at solution after making some combinations in offset. Thought, this may be useful for somebody facing the similar issue.
What's the use of "Clear" steps which are generated by system?

In COPA , you pull reports based on various dimensions , like product , plant , company code , region , division , product group etc... . We define these dimensions as Characteristics in COPA ..
Now , if we have to pull data in these dimensions.. we have to make sure that all these characteristics are populated in a COPA Document ..All the characteristics are not always are available during creation of billing document ..hence we need to have a COPA Characteristics derivation strategy ..
Strategy may be :
Derivation of Fixed Characteristics
Derivation from derivation rules
Derivation from table lookups
Derivation from customer hierarchy
Derivation of Product Hierarchy
Derivation of Region
Derivation with move and clear functions
Derivation within enhancement steps
Derivation of quantity units

Reporting Level - Can someone please explain this attribute?

All - I am a relative newbie to Siebel on Demand but creating reports with other tools for years. I recently came across some reports that I have inherited that are constantly giving us trouble. They are basic reports that look at the count of calls, meetings, etc. for a given user. What we are finding is that we have used this reporting level attribute to filter but depending on the level of manager logging in it is causing problems. Some people can't see the data and some get a massive amount of duplicated data.
When it is all said and done we are looking for a simple manager-to-rep list of the counts of these activities. After looking at the reporitng level value it would look like an indicator of relative position from the lowest level in the reports-to heirarchy. We will generally filter for a level = 0 (or maybe 1) in most reports but what I want is a way to control that based on the user. My requirement is to have the level they can see and the detail at one level lower but I dont' fully understand how that gets created or how I can use system variables to find the user's level to control it.
Anyone that has any background info on this or how I can control a basic anaylytic report in a more maintainable fashion to show my stuff and subtotals at one level lower that would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if I can help with the specific report, but I will try to shed some more light on Reporting Level.
In any report where the Owned By User dimension is exposed, you can find the Reporting Level field. Each user is part of a reporting hierarchy, derived from the "Reports To" value in their user profile.
The best way to see this is to create a simple report with the User Email, Reporting Level, and Manager Email. This will show you the manager at each level. You can use this to expose and filter on the full management hierarchy.
Level 0 = the user. All users have a value of themselves as Manager at Level 0.
Level 1 = Reports To - who the user directly reports to.
Level 2+ = Up the chain...
You may want to take a look at some of the pre-built reports to see how this can be used to achieve Team based reports, such as "Team Pipeline Analysis", "Team Sales Effectiveness Analysis", and "Team Activity Analysis". You can open any of the pre-buiilt reports to use as starting points as well.

Characteristic in COPA

We have sales district as one of our characteristics. I think it is std. SAP delivered. It is mapped from KNVV table. I need it from VBKD (transactional). Its not allowing me to create one as there is one already exists. How do I do that? Is this sales district characteristic from KNVV is std SAP delivered?
Other issue is we need to create custom characteristic for customer hierarchy from VDH1 transaction. Table looks like KNVH , I tried creating a derivation rule but no luck. In the source fields of derivation rule, there is a field for start of validity period, I am not sure what to map it to. I did some testing with different dates n formats but no luck. I doubt this might be the issue for not getting the value to COPA. Please advice.

I managed to configure it in KEDR as user-defined step, using Step type "Customer hierarchy", where you have options for table look up or Enhancement, choose Customer Hierarchy".
Then in the source fields select many:
VKORG
VTWEG
SPART
KNDNR
HIE06
HIE05
HIE04
HIE03
HIE02
and in Target fields add these:
HIE06
HIE05
HIE04
HIE03
HIE02
depends on how many hierarchy levels you have.We have 6 levels.
Choose "Overwrite with new value only if new value found to allow you to reprocess a billing if the Customer hierarchy is missing in the COPA docs posted so far!
I have the issue that initially I have selected "DO NOT Overwrite with new value if field already filled" and now I can not reprocess the billing via KE4S and can not fix the missing customer hierarchy characteristics derived so far!
Someone has clue about how to change it in "Customer hierarchy" derivation in KEDR?
It simply has no change mode, all in grey...

Generic Exception handler in java

We have developed a client java application with our own exception hierarchy derived from java.lang.exception. We raise our own exception in case of error scenarios. But there is one additional thing which we want to do:
1. When ever any exception is raised in our exception we want to do some generic exception handling (like kicking of some module which collects the log files and send it to the administrator.
2. We want the above activity to happen also when any runtime exception is raised. We are not catching any runtime exception and we have no handle for this.
How should we go about this. Can we write a very low-level generic exception handler?
We do not want to have done at every catch block we have in our code. I mean we want to have some hook at a very generic place.
Let me know if some body can be help me on this.

As far as I know, for exceptions that are caught, you must make a call to a generic handler in the catch block, or you may rethrow the exception as a RuntimeException, and let it propagate.
For RuntimeExceptions and Errors in threads that you create, the easiest way to solve this is to subclass ThreadGroup, override uncaughtException with the appropriate code, and create all your threads in this group. For a thread like main, have the first thing in the thread be the creation of a new thread in the new group, then pass control to that thread. For fixed threads, like the event queue, someone had a suggestion already. Note that uncaughtException is only called just before the thread ends, so an exception that shouldn't end the thread should be handled seperately.

How to derive new attributes from the levels of a hierarchy

I have a hierarchy based on object XYZ where each level has a specific meaning, for example: Continent, Country, Region.
I would like to create new attributes to this object XYZ that would be derived from the hierarchy levels.
Can anyone provide some help?

If I understand correctly you want to fill an attribute of XYZ with information on where in the hierarchy the particular XYZ-value is placed?
If so, I guess you would want attributes on XYZ for each "thing" you derive from the hierarchy levels, but at any rate, you can look up the level each XYZ value belongs to in the H table so, /bic/Hxyz. Fx value 123 is on level 5 and you get the parent ID as well.
Keep checking the parent ID and which level it is on in order to know when you have reach the next logical "thing" and then read the value of the node and put it as an attribute of XYZ.

Derived Hierarchy Permissions - cascading top level permissions to all subseuent levels

I have created a 3-level derived hierarchy in my MDS model.
Level 1 - divisions, Level 2 - groups, Level 3 - targets per year-month
We have divisional users that would use this structure. so when I add a user I set the permissions at the division level and would like those permissions cascaded down to levels 2 & 3 without going thru and setting permissions on each node in level
2 and level 3. Is it possible to do so? If yes, how? If not, then how do I maintain permissions for my users - how can I make sure that if a user enters a new group for a division, then he/she can use it to set targets?

The permission will be inherited by the subtree.

On the Hierarchy Members tab, each hierarchy is represented as a tree structure. When you assign permission to a node in the tree, all children inherit that permission unless permission is explicitly assigned at a lower level.

Adjacency Matrix in MDS using a recursive derived hierarchy

Hello everyone!
I'm looking for some great examples of how to do an adjacency matrix in Master Data Services while using the recursive derived hierarchy. Is this even possible or do I need to use an explicit hierarchy?
I'd really like to avoid using the explicit hierarchy because I'd like to be able to define the matrix and enforce adjacency relationship with that matrix.

It works now. I have implemented the below code (ENTITY needed to contain the variable as well). The relationship profitcenter and entity is very important as it derives the relevant profitcenters from the profit center hierarchy (e.g. all profitcenters under the legalentity node).

Hierarchy with External chars, how the external char automatically derives

We have Profit Center hierarchy. It has 'Profit Center Group' as a external char. We have account also in the aggregation level.
The hierarchy is on Profit Center with Profit Center Group as the parent nodes to the profit centers.
There are multiple hierarchies like legal, and management. We should be able to plan on different hierarchies properply, with Profit Center Group derived / created automatiically as per the hierarchy chosen in the variable.
The Profit Center and Group Profit Center are not in the rows and the account is. We tried to plan on the the account hierarchically with diaggreation turned on.
When Data posted, we wanted the Profti Center Group get derived as per the hierarchy chosen in the variable. Right now a blank Group get's posted in the database.
This worked with the Char Relation of type Hierarchy with Hierarchy value fixed. There is no way, we can define the varialbe hierarchy and also Exit Class is not able to read the source variables.
How to make this based on hier variable, or if Char Relationship definition on the InfoProvider in the Plan Modeler not all needed as the relation between Profit Center and Profti Center Group is already in the hierachy chosen in the variable for Profit Center.

derivation can only work, when Profit Center Group is not in the aggregation level. When you have more than one hierarchy on Profit Center (you are using in queries) I suggest that you create one hierarchy on Profit Center with Profit Center Group as foreign characteristics to be used in characteristic relationships. This is then a fixed hierarchy that defines what can be derived from Profit Center for all hierarchies you are using in queries.
Then you need no exit implementation. In addition, the hierarchy used in the characteristic relationship defines the admissible combinations in the cube. The hierarchies used in the query are only views on the cube data, in fact the foreign characteristics in hierarchies used in queries are treated as text nodes.

2)     Can we select multiple items from the list box. Does property allows multiple values.
The example is like this. There are 2 hierarchies.

Use property data type ListGroup for multiselect.
To select values from another hierarchy you can use Node or MultiNode, or an Asscociated Node property, of which there are several types. I'm not fond of the property editors for Node data types and will often just use a string and validate the user input by defaultin prefixes and such with a derived property that is checked by a query based validation. Make sense?

Profit Center Derivation in Intercompany STO

ECC 6, I am looking for a solution to derive the Profit Center in STO inter-company billing. The requirement is as follows:
Company A, Sales organization SO1, Distribution Channel C1, Division D1 and Plant 1000.
The stock is transferred from Plant 1000 (Company A) to Plant 2000 (Company B).
The Profit Center assigned in Material Master of Plant 1000, Sales Org SO1, Distribution Channel C1 is 'ABCDEF'
While creating inter-company billing document, system by default picks a Profit Center 'ABCDEF' (from material master). I want to derive the profit center according to Sales Organization, Customer Account Assignment Group, Customer Group and Product Hierarchy.
I created a custom table to map the profit center according to Sales org, Acct Asst Grp, Customer Grp and Product Hierarchy.
How to get the profit center from the custom table? It is Inter-company STO (Not a Sales Order).
I gone through various SAP notes and SCN, none of them giving clear cut steps to be followed to get the required profit center instead of profit center from material master.
Please do say to use Profit Center Substitution (0KEM or 0KEL) it is not applicable in this case.
Any suggestions is appreciated.

You can use exit EXIT_SAPLPCRW_002 (Include ZXPCAU04) to write your logic to read from the Z Table
There is another include which I have used in the past ZXPCAF01.. I dont remember it is part of which exit. May be your ABAP guys can help you find it

CO-PA Realignment: Changes in Product Hierarchy

Hello all,
We have changed the product hierarchy on some of our materials and we want to realign the PA data to reflect the same.
Our product hierarchy which we have three levels is maintained in KES1. There are no derivation rules. KES1 is updated manually everytime any changes occur.
For example:
OLD
Product: 1-189-01
Hierarchy 1: 100
Hierarchy 2:A7300
Hierarchy3: B56220
So on the material master the prod hierarchy is 100A7300B56220
NEW
Product: 1-189-01
Hierarchy 1: 125
Hierarchy 2:A7500
Hierarchy3: B56120
I tried using KEND for realignment and this does not change anything. Any help, how to proceed with the realignment is appreciated.

hierarchies , can any one help me ..what is the table and column name which will tell whether position exists in hierarchy or not

I doubt where the exists flag is stored.
But you can derive it very easily by checking the position_id exists in (SUBORDINATE_POSITION_IS or PARENT_POSITION_ID) in table PER_POS_STRUCTURE_ELEMENTS for given structure_id.
