Hierarchy shown in variable entry screen

Hi,
I have created a hierarchy for Purchasing Group (0PUR_GROUP). Now, in the selection screen of the query, where the user selects a purchasing group, I would like; 1 - the user to see the hierarchy
2 - the user to be able to select a part of the hierarchy (a group of purch groups).
Is this possible?

hi!
In the query designer inthe properties of Purchasing Group activate the heirarchy by selecting and then restrict the Purchasing Group using a user input variable which select the heirarchy node.

Variable entry screen for query doesnt show selection values.

Hi,
I've created a query with date varibale Quarter From-To. When i execute this query, the variable entry screen pops up but when i try to select values just shows ??? and not the text.
if i run the same query in RSRT the variable entry screen pops up but here the selection values are present for me to choose from.
can anyone tell why the values arent showing when the query is executed.

yes, it seems to be a problem with NetWeaver BI BEx Java Web runtime as it works in RSRT and web analyzer. Found a note on marketplace note 125357 - No values displayed for attributes in input help but this did not resolve issue.

Variable entry screen from BW in webdynpro

Hi all,
    can I use the variable entry screen for a BEx query to access all the user inputted values in a webdynpro application.
    I want to launch this screen from within the webdynpro application, and once the user presses "Execute", I want all the user selections back in the application.
    Is this possible at all?

Hi Satyajit,
Since the variable entry screen orignates from the BI system in conjunction with a web template it cannot be invoked separately. Do you plan to run the web application within a Web Dynpro application (i.e. an iFrame)? One option would be to use the BI Java SDK to populate the values in a user selection screen and then use the user's selection to execute a query or MDX statement. Of course you Web Dynpro app is responsible for rendering the result set.

History of user Input values in variable entry screen

Hi Experts,
I have a small issue. I have a variable entry screen where I select values from the list. I can always see the history of variable values I input earlier when I click on the dropdown box. For example the country code displays all my previous inputs.
Similar to the web browsers history.
Not the same case with Fiscal Year/Period. I do the same type of selection from the combo box for example 12.2006. I give different values again like 1.2007, 2.2007 etc and run the report several times. But it doesn't show up the history of my previous entries unlike the country code.

What we've done isn't pretty, and I'm hoping for a better solution.
We've developed 3 ODSs that we've exported a full list of all attributes and their values to. Each ODS is identical.
We've then created an InfoSet to link the Product Cube to each of the 3 ODSs. We can then add 3 variables to the query representing each ODSs. Since the ODS holds over half a million attributes, we limited it to 3 since it takes 30 minutes to run.
It's not elegant, it's not pretty, and I'm sure it's not optimal. I'm hoping someone can describe a better solution.

Question on WAD's "Variable Entry" screen values

Hi,
I've one Web Template Report contains "Variable Entry" screen.
It has one entry for Plant.
Also inside a report I'm having one DropDownList that is for Plant only.
My Requirement is:
If I enter some "1000" as a input in Plant at Variable screen, that same "1000" should be passed inside the report. And that corresponding DropDownList should show the "1000" as the selected value.
Now I'm getting "Show all values" as the default selected item.
Kindly suggest to achive this requirement.
Full points will be given.

1)If i didn't give any value in Variable Entry screen, in the result DropDownList shows "No data" in disabled mode.
Ans. Since you have not checked "Display All Values", i think if you dont give any selection in the Variable Screen, the DropDown box will not be highlighted.
2)The Selected plant Not only having Name and id, But also having all characteristics like, 1402,Pen,Business Partner: xxxxx, Distribution channel:xxx, etc.,
Ans. Since we are reading from the Master Data, i think all these values will also be displayed.
I still dont know if you are using WAD 3.5 or 7 ? Maybe we have better options in 7. You can try with different properties.

Do you want to remove some values for the variable and wish to show only few values which the user will select and fill in the variable screen or you want to change the no.of variables displayed in the variable screen and show only few variables?
If you want to do the first,
Restrict the values for that variable in the Query itself(in Query Designer) which can be done as follows...
Create a variable for a Characteristic and add it under "Default Values",then restrict the values for that variable.Now this will allow you to select the restricted values through the variable screen.
If you want to do the second,
Go to Personalized settings,and personalize the variables.You can also Modify the selection of values there as well.
Now you can show only the required variables in the variable screen.
If you want to create a variant(Global/Local) for the variables,that is also possible thorugh vairable screen.

Changing the heading in the variable entry screen

I have the varible entry in my web template where in the user enter the starting year and ending year .The heading of the Variable entry screen is defaulty Variable entry I wanto change the heading from Variable entry to Years
In 3.5 WAD what ever description is assigned to the webtemplate appears as the heading for variable entry scree but this is not happening in 7.0
Pls let me know how can this be done

Changing the variable entry screen in web?

I have copied and amended the standard web template and that's all fine. I now have a requirement to change the design of the variable entry screen. I need to be able to show the name of the query that has raised the variable screen. Is this possible? Can I change a different web template to achieve this?

Delete button in variable entry screen

is it possible to get the delete button icon for multiple
single values of a characteristic like we get for variable entry

sorry I misunderstood you question...
I've never seen a "delete" button for deleteing an entry in a multiple variable....
The user has to delete the input box and then press the check button...
Otherwise you'll have to implement your own selection variable screen, I guess; since this screen is SAP standard, good luck!

Problem with Variable Entry Screen

Hello All,
We upgraded our development systems to NW2004s and came across the following issue:
All our Bex queries have restricted time characteristics with variables entries. When we execute a query it should pop-up the variable selection screen for us to enter the restriction values but the query is ignoring Variable restriction screen and taking into consideration everything. The same query works fine in Prod., which is still in 3.1.
Did anyone come across this situation kind of situation? It did not pop-up any type of error and we are in SPS10

We fixed the "Variable Screen not appearing" problem by adding following objects to our users.
1) Business Explorer - BEx Web Templates (NW 7.0+) S_RS_BTMP
2) Business Explorer - Individual Tools S_RS_TOOLS
3) Business Explorer - Data Access Services S_RS_DAS

2 queries sharing 1 variable entry screen

We have 2 queries in a workbook which use identical user-entered variants. Is there a way to have the user only fill in the variants once for both queries.

Hi,
Yes. you can. Bex will bring the popup for variable entry for the Query which is last inserted.
Some say-> your have insert Query1 and then Query2.
The the popup for Query2 with appear first and user make a variant there and save it. Now i am assuming that you have make sure that you are using the same variables for both query..then there will be no popup and the whatever values which user have entered in variant of Query2 which will taken by Query2 also.
Fews points to keep in mind->
1) Make sure that you are using the same variables (check techinal names of variables) in Query 2 as you have in Query 1.
2) To refresh all queries with a single refresh screen, the user can select any cell in the workbook that is NOT part of the query (to visualize which cells are part of a query, use the Analyzer toolbar and select Layout >> Mark queries on worksheet), then select the refresh button. You will see a message box that says "No query is selected. Do you want to refresh all queries in the workbook?". If you select Yes, all queries will refresh with one refresh screen (assuming all queries have identical variables).

Adding messages to the Variable entry screen in web report

I need to add a message or note to the variable selection screen on a web report. I need this message or note to be displayed somewhere on the same screen with the variable list. I found something similar in BW Expert regarding pop-up messages, but this does not work with web templates. Does anyone know of a way to add a static (or dynamic) message to this initial screen of a web report?

In my clients place, they are ready to do the SAP Mod based on "CL_RSR_WWW_VARIABLE_SCREEN" to have a Alert Message which sort of based on different idea.
Does anyboay have an idea on where to make the change?

How to get New Window without Variable Entry screen from one Web Template?

Hi Experts,
I've a WebTemplate contains 2 Graphs. Each graph have one Zoom Button. My requirement is, When I click the Zoom button that corresponding Grpah should display in a New Window. I've finished all the above requirements.
Since, I have One Mandatory field, I'm always getting the Variable Screen in a New Window while I clik the Zoom Button.
I need to avoid this "Rerun" feature in New Window.
Kindly suggest me how to achieve this..

Even I'm also trying for the same scenario only.
Actually I have 2 Web Templates.
In First Template I have 2 Charts and 2 Zoom buttons for each.
While I running the 1 Template, i give an Value in the Variable screen of First Web Template.
If I click a Zoom button of 1st Chart, It should open a New window with the Second Web Template. And Second Web Template should automatically take a First Template's Variable screen Values.
(Since, U have an Mandatory field in Second Template u were not faced this requirment.)
Even I tried with "TRANSFER_STATE". It is not taking the First Variable Screen's input values.
Kindly help me in this issue.

Custom Message on Variable Selection Screen

Hi there
I have been asked to find a way to add a message to the variable selection screen.
It appears that DIVISION needs to be added to the selection screen, as this makes the query run faster. However, they don't actually want the user to enter a division, as this causes other problems.
So, ideally, I would be able to add a message to the variable selection screen that advises users against entering a value for division.
I don't know how to do this.
I create the web template, and I can therefore add messages or anything you like to the template, but I don't believe I have any control over the variable selection screen.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
We are running a 2004s system if that helps.

You cannot customize the variable entry screen - atleast not in BI3.x since SAP advices storngly against it. I guess the same applies to BI7 also.
What you could do it
1. Have an exit that fills in the values and is not shown by default
2. Have the variable on division but make it optional and remove the ready for input option for the same
3. Have a HTML variable selection window and then pass the values to your report - but then you will not get the F4 help for the same here.

I faced a similar issue (for what I understand your request is).
My requirement for the Variable Screen was to do:
1) place a link to a ppt file
2) remove buttons "Save", "Save As...), "Delete"... the standard buttons come when running the Query or WebTempl
We were using a Web Templ for BI7.0
I struggled trying to find out how to do it. My conclusions are:
- WAD, not sure we can accomplish it using a Web Template but i did not "play" a lot with the Web_Template Properties in order to know
- XHTML, I was told in my post HTML modification was the way, but I have close to nil background in HTML and couold not find the way of accessing the Variable Entry screen
For instance, I had to remove similar buttons and change some font size from a link on the Web Template (WAD), which was pretty straight forward. In WAD the buttons come with its own icon and to increase the Font size for that link we used XHTML (<font size="2" >). But the heck of the variable screen...well, i just did not get trhough to it to modify it in any way.
