High Availibity solution for Sharepoint Service Applications

I have a scenario with the three nodes SP1 , SP2 and DR-SP with server 2012 standard, each running SharePoint 2013 enterprise, All of three nodes are members of single SharePoint farm that spans two data centers.Primary Data Center have two nodes SP1 , SP2
and DR data center have one node DR-SP of share point 2013.
For MS SQL i have three nodes DB1, DB2 and DR-DB3 with server 2012 standard, each running an instance of SQL Server 2012 enterprise, participate in a
single Windows Server Fail-over Cluster (WSFC) that spans two data centers.Primary Data Center have two nodes DB1 ,DB2 and DR data center have one node DR-DB of SQL Server 2012 enterprise.
Currently i have configured these service applications on  primary data center nodes SP1 .How i can enable high availability for different service Applications  of SharePoint 2013  like Profile service application, search service application,
managed meta data application in case of primary data center outage.

stretched farms are not supported unless the WAN provides sub-millisecond ping times.

  • High Availibity solution for office web app server 2013 for Sharepoint 2013

    I have a scenario with the three nodes SP1 , SP2 and DR-SP with server 2012 standard, each running SharePoint 2013 enterprise, All of three nodes are members of single SharePoint farm that spans two data centers.Primary Data Center have two nodes SP1 , SP2
    and DR data center have one node DR-SP of share point 2013.
    For Office webapp server i have two nodes OWA1, and DR-OWA with server 2012 standard, that spans between two data centers.Primary Data Center have OWA1 and DR data center have one node DR-OWA of office web app server.
    Currently i have configured office web app on  primary data center node OWA .How i can enable high availability of office web app server in case of primary data center outage.Please guide.

    WAC servers on a single farm must be in the same data center. The WAC configuration you've proposed is unsupported. Build a separate WAC farm in the secondary data center and attach it to the SharePoint farm only in the event of a disaster.

  • Is one application pool preferred for all sharepoint service applications(

    is one application pool preferred for all SharePoint service applications ?
    I have a three-tier architected SP 2013 small farm (NLT, 2 wfe, 1 app server, 1 db server). All services will be use (Secure Store,Service Application, Managed Metadata Service Application, Search Service Application,User Profile Service Application,App
    Management Service Application,Workflow Manager,Excel Service Application,BI Reporting Service Application,Power Pivot Service,Performance Point,Visio Services,BCS Service application)
    I am unclear on the following:
    which servers should host which service ? and why ?
    Is one application pool account preferred for all SP service Applications ? if not which service applications should be logically group ? and why ?

    Creating additional application pools requires more RAM memory.  About 100-150 MB per app pool.  But it also keeps things happening in one app pool from affecting another.  So normally you create additional app pools when you want to maintain
    higher service levels on one component versus another.  For example.  Let's assume that your service levels designate that you could survive a 3 hour outage of Search but that Managed metadata must be constantly available with minimal downtime.  Then
    you would put Search and MMS in separate App Pools.  Otherwise there is no real advantage to splitting them up.
    Services that are accessed directly by user request, like Search Query, Managed metadata, user profile should go on the Web Front ends.  Services that process heavier intermittent loads are normally placed on a dedicated application server to keep them
    from affecting overall performance, for example Excel Services.  But its more of an art form rather than a science and depends a lot on your performance needs, your hardware, and your usage.

  • Good/robust/high performance solution for calling Java from C

    Hi,
    I am looking for a good/robust/high performance solution for invoking a local java component from a C application in Windows.
    About Java component:
    - It has multiple methods that would be called very frequently from C application
    - It will reside in local machine. This machine may not have access to internet/LAN.
    My preference is to implement this java component as indepent running exe and have C application make outprocess calls. Is this possible?
    Any help/suggestions on this are greatly appreciated
    Thanks,
    -Arun

    I will stop replying to this conversation, unless it
    remains professional and without getting personal.I suggest you read your replies again then since you were the one that strayed from the topic and referred to my competency.
    >
    Or conversely those that have been working with JNIfor close to 10 years >might have a different opinion
    that someone who is promoting a commercial >product?
    I cannot see anything wrong with sharing and letting
    people know of potential solutions that might help to
    solve their problems.Not a problem at all.
    You however stated an absolute. I asked you to back up that absolute with something that was objective.
    You then lashed out at me and questioned my competency.
    >
    So you are questioning my competence as well as myintent?
    And not bothering to address the question at all.
    I am guessing you haven't actually attempted tocompare JNI to on board >sockets but instead you are
    just guessing.
    Frankly, I don't see how a socket solution with
    process switching overhead is going to work faster
    than a direct method call, passing parameters over
    the stack, the whole operation taking place
    in-process.
    And thus, as I thought, you haven't actually attempted to compare the two.
    And in terms of competency I can only wonder if youare competent enough
    to write the test frameworks that would demonstrateone or the other.
    As said earlier, there is no need to get personal,
    let's keep professional!
    And as I said earlier I would suggest that you look to your own replies.
    As mentioned, I do have enough experience for those
    who need to interoperate with Java using JNI, and can
    show how to do it in a safe and productive manner.
    And as I have said for the third time now that has nothing to do with what I actually asked you.
    The code that someone writes via JNI has much lessusage, and thus is much >more likely to have
    problems. Even if someone is competent in creating
    JNI >and C code.
    Thus JNI Is less stable.
    And by the way that includes the commercial productthat you are promoting >as well.
    Expressing an opinion on a product just based on its
    underlying technology without proper evaluation
    doesn't sound like constructive criticism.
    So you are claiming that your product is in fact more stable than the VM or at least as stable even though it has had far, far less usage?
    The only thing that can be said about the product so
    far, it that a product that is in production for some
    years without any problems, has a certain level of
    reliability and quality, whatever the underlying
    technology might be, and that there is enough
    competency with JNI to produce it and advice about
    the technology.
    True. But you were the one that brought up unrelated issues and then, as best as I can tell, thought to challenge my knowledge by pointing out how VMs "really" work.

  • I want to find any backup and recovery solution for SharePoint server 2013 enterprise

    Dear Expertise,
    Recent set up SharePoint server 2013 Enterprise, and looking for backup and recovery solution, does the built in Windows Backup can handle it, and how?
    KF

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to know some backup and restore solution for SharePoint 2013.
    There are two Technet articles about the backup and restore, you can have a look at them.

    You can also use some third-part software tools to achieve the same scenario.

  • I'm looking for Failover/High available solutions for IPS 4200 Series

    Hi all,
    I tried to find out Failover/High available solutions for IPS 4200 series,I didn't saw failover solutions in IPS guide document. Anybody can be help me!

    I do not know if this is documented anywhere, but I can tell you what I do. As long as the IPS 4200 has power, with the right software settings, the unit can fail such that it will pass traffic. Should the unit loose power, it does stop all traffic. I run a patch cable in parallel with the in line IPS unit, in the same VLAN, with a higher STP cost. Thus all traffic will traverse the IPS unit when possible, but should something happen to it, a $10 patch cable takes over.

  • Which sharepoint service applications & services are required for Project server 2013 to work fine.

    HI,
    Can any one help me,
    I am planning to install project server 2013,  what are the service applications and Services ( Manage services on server in central admin ) in sharepoint  are required for project server 2013 to work fine, so that i will run only  service
    application and services to increase server performance..i don't want to configure all service applications  when i  am configuring.
    Thanks in Advance..

    Hi Vijay,
    If you are installing Project Server on SharePoint farm, You need to start the service Project Application Service which would be available after you install project Server 2013.
    For Project Server Reporting you need to start Excel service and Secure Store service.

  • High Availabilty Solutions for Oracle R12.

    Hi Gurus,
    We are looking for a HA solution for our R12 E-Business Suite. Currently we have options like HP Service Guard from HP.
    Kindly provide me your valuable suggestion for HA solution from Oracle side.
    Please kindly provide me the details as well like 'Licensing, Advantages, Disadvantages, pre-requistes, ease of Adminstation etc.
    Highly appreciating your replies.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your replies. Does Oracle RAC need extra licensing?Absolutely, yes. RAC is neither cheap nor free. ;-)
    I would like to have enough information before i can go to our sales representative.
    Actually i am planning to give presentation on High Avaialability options for Oracle R12.
    and i assume i will be asked for the lisensing. i need your helpA conversation with your Oracle Sales representative will be far more informative than asking questions about licensing on these forums. If you want baseline information about license costs, you can check the Oracle Store (https://oraclestore.oracle.com), but you may be able to negotiate a better rate with Oracle Sales.
    Update: In other words, "what Hussein said." I really need to refresh these threads more often when composing a reply, especially if I wander away and come back. ;-)

  • Where are settings saved for WCF Service Applications?

    Default Settings for a WCF Service Application are stored in the web.config file and are Read Only because only Application settings are allowed i.e. you cannot change the Scope from "Application" to "User" in the settings designer like
    with other components.  So, in order to save changes to settings the WCF Service Application will need to create a setting property at runtime like this:
    System.Configuration.SettingsProperty newProperty;
    newProperty = new System.Configuration.SettingsProperty("NewSetting");
    newProperty.IsReadOnly = false;
    newProperty.DefaultValue = "New Setting";
    Properties.Settings.Default.Properties.Add(newProperty);
    Properties.Settings.Default.Save();
    OK...this works, but I've looked everywhere and I can't find where the new setting property is being saved.  I have already looked in the C:\Users\[username]\AppData\[Local or Roaming]\[Company Name]\[AppName...etc.]\[version]\user.config and although
    a user.config file was created it does not contain the new property.  Anyone have a clue?
    Actually, this doesn't work...the settings are not saved to the file system.  I located some other posts and modified my code as follows, but the settings are still not saved to the file system.
    System.Configuration.SettingsProperty newProperty;
    newProperty = new System.Configuration.SettingsProperty("NewSetting");
    newProperty.Provider = Properties.Settings.Default.Providers["LocalFileSettingsProvider"];
    newProperty.Attributes.Add(typeof(System.Configuration.UserScopedSettingAttribute), new System.Configuration.UserScopedSettingAttribute());
    newProperty.PropertyType = typeof(string);
    newProperty.IsReadOnly = false;
    newProperty.DefaultValue = "New Setting";
    try
    Properties.Settings.Default.Properties.Add(newProperty);
    catch
    //Just ignore it for now.
    Properties.Settings.Default.Save();
    The new setting appears to be saved only in memory.  If I close Visual Studio then the setting is lost.  Also, I deleted the C:\Users\[username]\AppData\[Local or Roaming]\[Company Name]\[AppName...etc.]\[version]\user.config files and the file
    is no longer being created.
    Looks like I will need to explicitly load/save a text file or use the registry to persist changes to settings.

    Hello Steven,
    >>The new setting appears to be saved only in memory.
    It seems that the Save() method only saves these runtime added in memory, I suggest you could check the Save method source code since now the .NET is source opened:http://referencesource.microsoft.com/#System/sys/system/configuration/ApplicationSettingsBase.cs,9664b0111a35af52
    >>Looks like I will need to explicitly load/save a text file or use the registry to persist changes to settings.
    Someone provides an implementation about this approach, you could check it:
    http://stackoverflow.com/a/1075318
    Or you could set it in a register entry:

  • Need solution for SNMP Service on Solaris

    Hi Friends,
    We use the solaris servers. For SNMP we have changed the Default Password of SNMP Service.
    We audited our Servers doing the Penetration Testing (PT). In this activity it was reported the SNMP is using the default password. They had the tool "Getif" for SNMP testing. If the default password are set for SNMP service this toll reads the important information. If defaults passwords are not used it cannot read any information about SNMP.
    When i change the default password for SNMP, should i restart the the service to take changes in effect?
    Pls help

    Hi taher;
    Thanx buddy. You are really helping us out. I just try to share my knowledge wiht forums user i also already learn many thing from forums,as specialy Hussein Sawwan
    I have two more doubts. Like in linux we use which command to see if that executable is in the PATH but in Solaris 10 is whence a replacement for that.I belive You can use which command in solaris too.
    Q2). I dont think i need to go for split architecture as both the DB (11i) and application tier are certified for solaris *10* SPARC (64-bit).You should decide it not me :) you can use split config if your business need it or not. Its just depend your analysis
    I hope; my answer would be answer of your quesition and give you some idea about your issue :)

  • Backup-SPFarm for PowerPivot Service Application

    Hi

    I am able to take the backup of all my services applications except PowerPivot Service Application.
    Below is my command:

    2) Backup, Copy, Restore the Databases
    The “SharePoint database-attach upgrade” process is a sequence of steps to back up, copy, and restore PowerPivot related content and service application databases to the SharePoint 2013 farm.
    Set Database to read-only: In SQL Server Management Studio, right-click the database name and click
    Properties. On the Options page, set the
    Database read-Only property to
    True.
    Back up: Back up each content database and service application database that you want to migrate to the SharePoint 2013 farm. In SQL Server Management Studio, right-click the database name, click
    Tasks, and click Back up.
    File copy the database backup files (.bak) to the desired destination server.
    Restore: Restore the databases to the destination SQL Server Database Engine. This step can be completed using SQL Server Management Studio.
    Set Database to read-write: Set the
    Database read-Only to False.
    Migrate Schedules option1: SharePoint farm administrator
    In the SharePoint 2013 Management Run the Set-PowerPivotServiceApplication cmdlet with the
    -StartMigratingRefreshSchedules switch to enable automatic on demand schedule migration
    . The following Windows PowerShell script assumes that there is only one PowerPivot service application.
    $app=Get-PowerPivotServiceApplication
    Set-PowerPivotServiceApplication $app -StartMigratingRefreshSchedules
    After the Windows PowerShell script is run, the schedules are active and the schedules will run at the next appropriate time. However, the status one the schedule refresh page is not enabled. When the schedule runs the first time it will be migrated and
    on the schedule refresh page, Enabled will be true.
    If you want to check the current value of the StartMigratingRefreshSchedules property, run the following PowerShell script. The Script loops through all PowerPivot service application objects and display the name and property values:
    $apps = Get-PowerPivotServiceApplication
    foreach ($app in $apps){}
    Get-PowerPivotServiceApplication $appp | format-table -property displayname,id,StartMigratingRefreshSchedules
