Highlight text and drag over Safari icon to start a search

A few years back, it was possible in Safari to highlight text and drag and drop it over the Safari icon to instantly start a Google or Yahoo search. That no longer seems to work. Now, I'm running Snow Leopard with the newest version of Safari. Back then, I was probably still on Tiger and whatever the current version of Safari was at the time.
Does anyone know if it's possible to restore that old feature to drag and drop text of the Safari icon to start a search?

Nobody knows what I'm talking about?

Preview: highlight text slowly disappears over the days

Hello everyone.
I have several days reading a book in pdf format with preview.app, and I highlight text in bright yellow.
I have reviewed all the highlighted text and the color yellow is more tenuous as I approach the beginning of the book.
In fact the highlight of the first page no longer exists.
How I can do to make all the highlight is of the same intensity of color?
I use Preview Versión 5.5 (719). Thank you.

Tonight I went to the Genius Bar. There seems to be two options:
(1) Do as the genius did tonight:
- Reset the home folder's ACL (Access Control List.) (He said to Google this to learn exactly how to do this.)
- Repair the disk permissions
- Delete the Preview preference file. It's a "plist" file located in user/library/preferences
If that doesn't work, then:
(2) Re-install Lion.
I tried Preview with the fixes and most of my problems seemed to be fixed. Those being the colors of the highlighted text and notes haven't dimmed after a number of quits and restarts of Preview. However, the grey text that I originally included in my annotations became invisible again. They're still there, but you can't seem them. Although the text that I included using other colors (blue & red) continue to appear.
My feeling that this still might be an issue related to versions, but who knows.

How can I remove accessibility text and voice over from the logon screen?

Before I log on to my Mac, in the logon screen I get accessibility text and voice over features enabled all the time. I can remove them by pressing cmd + f5 several times until they're gone (while I'm still in the logon screen). I would like to remove them permanently so that they never appear in the logon screen.

Can you provide an example? I've been trying (for
example) "select translate(' test one', ascii(' '),
'X') from dual" with no luck.

I have a doubt ,how we can display text and image over Video Image.
Is anybody know how we can draw text over Video Image,pls sent a small code how can do it in applet?.
I can do it in a frame,but it not work in a applet !

Is there any way to remove the text that appears over dock icons when you hover over them? Or at least make it time out, or become more transparent?

When I highlight text and then begin to type, the first few letters of what I start to type do not display

Im on yosemite, and had this problem when I had Mavericks. I have a macbook pro 2014 retina 8gb ram 256gb ssd.
Let me explain my issue. When I am on google's search bar, I have some text written, i.e. "what is a mac" . When I try to highlight this and write a new search i.e. what is a computer, the text that ends up displaying is "at is a computer". When I look at it as I type, I see that after I highlight and begin to type the new search the first few letters of what I type get highlighted again, and then get overwritten, that is why the first few characters don't show up in the new search I do. Anyone know what the problem is here? How to fix it etc..??

The right-click context search is controlled by the currently active search engine in the Search Bar (not the Location Bar). You can change the Search Bar search engine to specify which single search engine to use.

Just received notice that my Security and Privacy system had been updated. What is this? Who updated it? Went to the ICON and found the Safari icon checked does this allow someone on the outside to find my location?

Can you make a menu for the right-click search so that when I highlight text and search, I can choose which search engine to use?

If you Highlight text you can right-click on it to pull up a short menu. One option is "Search x search engine for 'highlighted text'" Previously, the search engine selected would be whichever search engine was selected on the search bar, so Google or Amazon.com, etc. Because you can no longer change that selection before you search, the search engine is set to your default. Was an annoyance before, but now it's just a hindrance.

When highlighting text and searching with Google, even though my default browser is Chrome, it searches with Safari. How do I change that?

Using iMac and Maverick OS. I have Chrome as my default browser. I find that going to System Preferences/General under default browser, I note that Chrome is chosen as default, yet the browser "above the line" is Safari and Chrome, while checked off is "below the line". In other words, the top listed browser is Safari which is unchecked with a line underneath, even though all the other browsers are listed below the line and only Chrome has a check mark.
When I am on a website and I select words to search in Google, it always searches with Safari instead of Chrome. How do I change that?

Thanks for your response. I think it was my error in that I did not define the problem properly. Indeed Chrome is my default browser. And Maverick does not have a "next line" to default to Google. I can do that in the Chrome settings.
My problem is that when I am in another application.....and it is apparently an application native to Maverick....for example Contacts or Calendar, Reminders, Notes, etc., if I highlight a word or phrase, and right click and choose "search with Google", it defaults to Safari. How do I change that?

Highlighting text jumps all over - doesn't work - help

Can't get the text highlighting to work. Seems like when I try to highlight, the browser does "whatever it wants, except highlight what I want. Clicking repeatedly causes it to jump around like some kind os a sppoky game!!!! What the hell is this? I never had this problem before the current version of Firefox. I think I will have to abandon Firefox for a browser that actually works, like Chrome.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

Incorrect alignment (text and graphics) in Safari

I recently updated my website and am now experiencing problems with the alignment of my text/graphics (all created in iWeb) when viewed in Safari 5.0.2. I'm using Arial Black and Arial Narrow (Bold). Any other fonts used on my site are jpegs from Photoshop.

(the text "The Delivery Man" and others is improperly aligned and all the little lines I created between each "Watch Trailer/Watch Clip" is completely off)
It doesn't seem to be a Safari problem because I checked it on another MacBook (running Safari 5.0.1) and it looked the same.
When viewed in Firefox (most updated version) everything lines up perfectly. All my software is completely up to date.

I also validated my fonts in Font Book, but there was no change. Any suggestions?

Use only one text box per film
Don't insert an image over the text box, as you can see the text don't have the same length in the different browsers (It's a fact). Prefer to insert an image in the text (like a word). in your case, you can't use this image between two words, but you can use this vertical line "| " (cmd shift L).

Get rid of highlighted text and change fonts in remember

So I copied texts from internet and pasted it in Remember but the text was highlighted in purple (like in microsoft word) and the font was different from the font I chose for my z10, anyone knows how to change it back to 'normal'?

How do you change the drape you can drag over the icons

I call it he drape. The drape that you can drag down that covers the icon screens that shows your weather, calendar, messages, and the stock ticker. How do you delete the stock ticker?
