Highlighting protected pdf on Reader for iOS (iPad4)

I have a textbook pdf which allows me to highlight and add sticky notes on multiple versions of Windows, but does not seem to allow the same function on Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad4).  Is this function supported, and if yes, how do I troubleshoot?
Thanks in advance.

Could you share a sample textbook for us to investigate? It could have some permissions that disallow this feature on the mobile version of Reader.
You can share it with me at [email protected]
Thanks

  • Form fill-in in Reader for IOS

Is there a way for users to fill-in a PW protected form in Reader for IOS? The form itself was created in Acrobat Pro X and protected to prevent changes. Form field fill in and printing were allowed. The form was then Reader enabled with extended features.
Non-secure forms work just fine in Reader for IOS but when PW protected show as locked. Btw, this process does work well in standard Acrobat Reader.

I have exactly the same issue, and have used those same settings... I need a solution to this really urgently ...anyone else know how to do this or have a suitable work around?

  • Highlights, but no comments on PDF annotated outside of Reader for iOS

I can't seem to view comments on a PDF which was annotated before importing to Reader for iOS. Highlights show up, just not the comments associated with them.

    Hi,
Adobe Reader currently does not support viewing or creation of sticky notes associated with highlights, though this is something we may consider supporting in a future update.
    Thanks for reporting the issue.

  • PDF documents that cannot be edited in Reader for IOS

    Hello,
I've been trying to edit (highlight and add comments) a PDF document on my iPad, but the app is not cooperating with me.
I was able to edit it with Adobe Reader on my PC, but the same file cannot be edited with the ios app.  I tried some other pdfs with the app, and in some, the editing options would work, but in others, they would not.
Is there any way that I can modify a pdf when it behaves this way, so that it will let me edit it on my iPad?
    Thanks!

    aboutrainbows,
Thank you for sharing the PDF document.
I took a look at the PDF document and found out that this problem occurs with certain types of PDF documents (but not all PDF documents).  Only text markup annotations (Highlight, Strikeout, and Underline) are affected by the defect in Adobe Reader for iOS.
The good news is that we already have a fix for it.  The fix will be verified by our Quality Engineering team and included in a future release of Adobe Reader for iOS.  Unfortunately, I am not able to provide the release date for Adobe Reader for iOS.
    We apologize for the inconvenience.
Please let us know if you have further questions.

  • Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's?

Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links created with Acrobat Standard to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's on an I Pad?

    driddy61,
As of June 2014, none of the Adobe Reader mobile products support the hyperlink action for opening a separate PDF document.
    Adobe Reader for iOS
    Adobe Reader for Android
Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8
In addition, the Reader mobile products do not open multiple windows/documents simultaneously, which would make the navigation between PDF documents nearly impossible. (Once a hyperlink takes you to a different PDF document, you have no way to go back to the original PDF document.)
The only Adobe Reader product that fulfills your department's requirements is Adobe Reader XI (mostly for Windows/Mac desktop/laptop computers).  Acrobat Pro and Standard are paid products.
Because you are in search of a less expensive device for your department, you could get a Windows tablet instead of a Windows desktop/laptop computer. Microsoft Surface Pro (that you've mentioned in your previous reply) is just one example.  You can also find other less expensive Windows tablets.
    Tablets
However, please keep in mind that there are two different types of Windows tablets running two different operating systems.
    (a) A Windows tablet with an Intel-based processor running Windows 8.1 Pro
    Example: Surface Pro 3
You can install and run traditional desktop apps (e.g. Adobe Reader XI) and new Windows Store apps ("Modern" or "Metro-style" apps).
    (b) A Windows tablet with an ARM-based processor running Windows RT 8.1
    Example: Surface 2
You can only install and run Windows Store apps (e.g. Adobe Reader Touch) but not traditional desktop apps like Adobe Reader XI.
In general, type (b) tablets are more affordable than type (a) tablets.  However, if you want to run Adobe Reader XI, you do need to check the technical specification of each tablet and make sure the following conditions are met.
    Processor: Intel
Operating system:  Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 8/8.1 Pro, not RT
Hope this helps you choose the right device for your department.  Please let us know if you have any questions about system requirements or supported features in the Adobe Reader products.

  • View PDF comments in Adobe Reader for iOS

Adobe Reader XI for Mac and PC can display a "Comments List" to show all of the comments that have been added to the document using the annotation features. Clicking on a comment scrolls the PDF document to where the comment was entered.
Could this feature be added to Adobe Reader for iOS so that comments added in the Mac / PC versions can be viewed on an iPad?

    Hi,
A Comments list has been on our feature ToDo list for quite some time now.  Unfortunately, it has not made it into the product yet.
    Thank you for the feedback!

  • New document alert: How to get PDF documents into Adobe Reader for iOS

Opening PDF Files in Reader for iOS (iPhone and iPad) has been very helpful to many users of Adobe Reader for iOS.  However, Apple has drastically changed the user interface in iOS 7, which made the original document obsolete.
According to Apple Developer Support's App Store Distribution page, 89% of devices connected to the App Store are using iOS 7 during a 7‑day period ending June 29, 2014.
Because of the exceptionally high iOS 7 adoption rate, Adobe Reader for iOS version 11.3 now supports iOS 7 only.
Here are the new How-To documents for iOS 7.
How to get PDF documents into Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad on iOS 7 version)
How to get PDF documents into Adobe Reader for iOS (iPhone on iOS 7 version)
(It had to be split into two separate documents because each contains way too many screenshots.)
Hope these documents are as helpful as the original one.
Please let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions on the topics for other help documents/tutorials.

    Dennis (or any Adobe rep),
Any updates to the OP's question? I'm with a large government agency, and we're moving away from GoodReader for reasons I can't go into here, and the ability to add user-defined bookmarks within the app is a mandatory feature for the document reader we select. I have the latest version of Adobe Reader (11.6.1) installed on my government iPad, and the ability to add user-defined bookmarks still seems to be missing. Does Adobe have any plans to add this feature, or is it already present and I'm simply overlooking it?
    Thanks,
    Cam

  • IPad Acrobat DC  DRM eBook University Unable to Unlock Protected PDF: other reader works

This post was updated on May 2:Added DRM software name and new attempt to open store the ebook in acrobat cloud and open from there.
Repeatable Yes I have tried on multiple eBooks
    DRM software: protectedpdf from Vitrium
Acrobat DC Reader (same behavior on the old Acrobat reader for iPAD)
       iPAD2
       iOS 8.3
I was hopeful this new version of PDF reader would allow me to open eBooks from my university. No such luck.  It's not the university PDF because PDFReaderPro across iOS types opens the Vitrium powerpdf protected  ebook's just fine.
Behavior: Unable to enter in user name and password. Fields are viewable, but I'm unable to enter data in either field.
...So I send it (image below ) to PDFReader Pro and the document opens after I type in my university username and password.
Adobe.  Why can a 3rd party open a DRM PDF file, but not Adobe?
PS, works fine on the Desktop using Acrobat readers. It is Not the file.

    Hi,
Currently, Adobe Reader for iOS disallows any changes (e.g. adding annotations, filling out text fields) to protected or encrypted PDF documents.
It is one of the known limitations in Adobe Reader mobile products (for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone).
You can use the Feature Request form.  The Product Management team will take your request into consideration for a future release of Adobe Reader for iOS.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Adobe Reader for iOS and Android & Rights Management

This week's release of Reader for iOS and Android devices incorporates support for accessing files secured by Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management.
As you are probably familiar, LiveCycle Rights Management protects sensitive documents by encrypting them with industry-standard AES encryption and enabling central management of their access permissions. Protections persist even when documents are accidentally distributed via email, the cloud, or saved on a lost mobile device.
Many of the core capabilities that you are used to on the desktop versions of Acrobat and Reader are now supported when you are on the go on your tablet or mobile phone. We intend to incorporate additional functionality in future releases of these mobile devices and look forward to your feedback.
We've had several questions thus far about how this works. More information about the product, as well as a link to an FAQ can be found at:http://blogs.adobe.com/security/2011/10/just-released-adobe-reader-10- 1-for-ios-and-android.html

Yes, each page of a scanned PDF is a picture/image.
You can still add Freehand drawing and/or sticky notes to a scanned PDF document.
To recognize text in a scanned PDF document, you need to run special Text Recognition software.  Acrobat Pro (that you said you have) offers the capability.
Recognizing Text in Scanned PDF Documents
After the step, you should be able to select text or add highlight.

Hyperlinks can be of several types. What are you linking to? Exactly what
application did you test the hyperlinks with on the Mac? What application
did you use to create the hyperlinks?

  • Annotations do not work in Reader for iOS (but do for Reader on other platforms)

I sell a book as PDF and it is encrypted against changing the contents, but annotating is allowed (highlighting, balloons). It turns out that  most PDF readers work as expected. The ones that don't (and that I know of so far) include Apple's Preview.app and (to my surprise) Adobe Reader for iOS.
All others tested so far (including Adobe Reader for Windows and OS X) behave as expected.
So, I suspect that (Preview.app on OS X and) Adobe Reader on iOS have a bug. Can I report that Reader for iOS bug somewhere?

Sadly, it's a limitation in Adobe Reader for iOS.
