Hight temperature, low fans speed. A problem_

I have a problem with OS 10.8.3 on macbook pro retina 15.
When temperature increases, above 75°C, I notice no change in fans speed, not increase.
Only with a external program (the smcfan control) is possible to increase speed and decrease the temperature.
Anyone else have this problem?

The first thing you should do is to reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If it doesn't work, you may have a hardware problem, so connect your computer to a power source and run Apple Hardware Test > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 To start in Apple Hardware Test, hold Option (Alt) and D keys while the Mac is starting.
Then, select your language, mark the option for extended mode and start the test. If you see an error at the end of that test, copy it here. Make a backup of your computer and take the MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller to get it replaced or repaired

Ultra 40 M2 core temperature and fan speed

I'm using a Sun Ultra 40 M2 with two dual core AMD opterons 2218 running openSUSE 10.3. I have been trying to use lmsensors to monitor core temperature and fan speeds. It seems to be working and I have been able to use gkrellm as well.
At low load I get temperatures around 40C on all cores (as measured by k8temp-hwmon), and fan speeds of about 1500 (rpm?; as indicated by lm85-hwmon2/fan1 and lm85hwmon2/fan2; only two fans?). However, at full load all core temperatures go up to 70-75C (steady) and fan speeds increase up to 2500 (which does not seem to be the maximum speed of the fans, as they are much noisier at booting stages). I wonder if such an increase in temperature is normal and how can I setup the fans' speed, if at all possible.

I'm currently running dual 2222se chips, an fx3500, and a single samsung 15000 146gb with an idle temp of 40-42c. But, I've run into a problem. For some reason, when my system boots, the fans run through the BIOS checks, but after post, the fans stop entirely. I've gone into the BIOS and fiddled with a few of the settings, but haven't been able to rectify the problem. Is there a specific setting that I may need to change to get the fans to actually run after post?
I got this workstation used, so I was unable to get the tech support information I was looking for without paying an additional fee. So any help whatsoever would be MUCH appreciated.
ChinGimLeong, as far as your idle temp goes, that sounds about right for the setup that you're running. You may want to look into purchasing some thermal grease and cleaning your chips and totally reapplying the grease. Improper application can hinder the heat transfer, causing a bit of a high idle speed. But if you apply too much, you WILL fry your board and processors. Another thing that you may want to try would be adding an external ventilation source to help get a bit of faster airflow. I use an 8 inch desk fan, it adds a bit of extra noise, but noise is nothing when you're protecting your system.

Is there an utility for monitoring cpu/gpu temperature and fan speed for desektop m9200T?

My desktop computer m9200T running Win7 Home Premium crashes often. It seems to be temperature related.
I had tried SpeedFan, but my computer crashed everytime I ran it. SpeedFan window scrolled 20 some lines of text than the computer crashed. Is there an utility for monitoring cpu/gpu temperature and fan speed for desektop m9200T?

Only have one temperature monitoring application running or you could end up with erroneous readings.
Try PC Wizzard. Depending on your hardware, you should see temperatures for CPU, GPU and disk. At the same site you can also try HW Monitor.
I am running a custom motherboard and it comes with its own software for this purpose. HW Monitor seems fairly complete.

Sun PCi II and Chip Temperature and Fan Speed

Dear All,
I have just installed a Sun PCi II card and am running it under Solaris 10 all seems to be working fine.
Looking at the environmental stuff in the BIOS revealed that the CPU Temperature is 94*C and the CPU Fan Speed is 0 RPM. Should I be worried ?
Do you think the fan has failed or is it just a bogus report. I would have thought if the chip got that hot the system would shutdown.

Getting exactly the same CPU temperature and fan speed in a SunPCI II just installed in a Sun Blade 2000. Also noticed that the BIOS PC Health Status Page reports a Shutdown Temperature of 60 *C, i.e. the reported CPU Temperature is above the Shutdown Temperature but the system is still runing...
Not sure if the "micro cooler" device fitted over the CPU has a fan, or uses some other cooling technique.

NOrmal Temperature and Fan Speed of MacBook Pro 13

Hi,what`s the Normal Temperature and Fan speed of MBP 13 during idle and when browsing or something?...please help..

The notional idle speed for the fan is 2000 rpm. If you turn it on you'll get about that and a temp of about 36 degrees in a cool room if you don't do anything. Opening a browser over wireless and say streaming a TV programme from the BBC will push the fan up to over 3000 rpm and the temp up to 60 degrees or so. Fan will drop to about 2400 rpm and temp to 53 degrees with gentle browsing.
Or that's what I get with a 2.53GHz 4GB memory machine. I took the 250GB disk out as it was noisy and put in a 120GB one that came from a Mac Mini so that may use a bit less power. (And the 2GHz Mac Mini has a rock solid 1500 rpm fan and rarely gets hotter than about 65 degrees - this has similar components to the Macbook Pro and so shows what a slightly bigger air access can do I guess).
The fan is rather faster and more noticeable than I was expecting with the Macbook, but the most noise came from the Toshiba disk which has now been banished to an external enclosure.

Temperature and Fan Speed Terminal HELP

So, I've been browsing the interwebs looking for a solution to my problem of monitoring temperature and fan speed within the OSX Terminal, while I do have a functioning way of determining them, it does require third party software that I personally would like a different way. Does anyone know of a command that I'm able to locate either of them? I know ioreg previously was able to locate these, but currently I can no longer grep my way through to locate any mention of them. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

You might consider the Ruby gem iStats. Ruby was updated in 10.9.3 to v2.0.0p451, and iStats does work with this version. This information is newer than on his github site.

What is the normal temperature and fan speed of the early 2011 13inch MBP while using for a normal use (surfing the net, play music via itunes, movie via quicktime etc?
What is the highest/hottest temperature and fan speed of this MBP while using heavy load like photoshop CS5, playing games etc?

Mine (13" i5) reaches 95C whilst watching hulu and browsing the web. Seems a tad high to me for what I am doing.

875p: temperature and fan speed

I've had my 875p running only for two days so far and I'm pretty happy about it. After reading some posts here I decided to brave a bios upgrade to 1.4 and indeed that did lower my cpu temperature. At this moment it's about 41C. Prior to the update it was several, maybe 10 degrees higher sometimes (also did the Arctic Silver thing as well after scraping off the original goo).
But I'm curious about the cpu fan. CoreCenter beeped at me furiously until I told it not to worry. The fan sometimes slows down well below 1000rpm and sometimes stops completely for a while. I'm guessing this is normal and since my cpu temperature looks ok I'm not too worried. Perhaps though someone can feedback to me that this is normal behavior for this motherboard.
System fan speed shows as zero all the time. I wanted to plug the Enermax 3-pin fan wire into the mb but that would have given me nowhere to plug the rear case fan. So the rear fan is definitely spinning and plugged into SFAN1. The Enermax fan goes to a converter wire to a regular power cables. So why no feedback to CoreCenter?

Yeah the Cpufan speed is somewhat wrong.
I hade a TMD-fan as cpufan.
And about every 3d second the cpufan speed goes to 0.
Else it just reads everything from 1100 to 9090.
Witch is wrong.
But as i can see that it spinns the wrong reads in not the problem.
The 0 reads every 3d second is, because of Corecenter.
I hear the alarm for nocpufan every now and then.
Even if i set the cpufanwarningspeed in corecenter to 0rpm, the program still jumps up and warns me if the fanheader missreads the fan-rpm to 0.

What's normal range temperature and fan speed for a 27" iMac?

I have a new iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GBs ram, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB.
Smc fan control reads up to about 131°F and around 1200rpm fan. Is this within normal range? At what point should I be worried?

1200 rpm is the minimum fan speed according to iStat Menus and other sources. If your fans are at the minimum that means your system is not concerned about the temperature. On my system currently the fans are at minimum (1199rpm) and the temperature is 104°F. The room ambient temperature is 74°F. Your system looks normal to me. By the way, my system is also a 27-inch late 2013 iMac with the 3.5ghz I7 CPU. The Haswell CPUs are very efficient and low power.

My MBP temperature and fan speed

My problem is that my MBP seems to be getting rather hot (the F panel at the top, and underneath in particular).
I used to notice when I used skype video that the fans spun a little faster and it seemed to keep my MBP at reasonable temperatures. But recently its getting very hot (almost untouchable) and the fans aren't spinning faster to offput the higher temperatures.
I installed smcFanControl2 and it showed my fans running at 1000 rpm while my CPU temperature was about 62 degrees Celsius. I've looked around the forums here and most people seem to be reporting a normal idle speed of about 2000 rpm, so thats the first thing that struck me as odd, as I'm not even using any particularly CPU intensive apps. I used Activity Monitor to check.
I then used smcFanControl2 to up my fan speed to 4000, and it ducked underneath 50 degrees celsius, so I reduced the fan speed back to 2060 (couldn't select exactly 2000) and now its running at about 53 degrees (I'm running system profiler, console, skim, textedit, itunes, mail, and finder right now). This seems to be a much more normal temperature, and I can barely even hear the fans.
*Now my question:*(thanks for sticking with me so far): Shouldn't my MBP automatically have upped the fan speeds to keep my CPU temperature at a reasonable 50 degrees or so? Or is the cutoff point higher and I've just never noticed before? Also, is there a program (like smcFanControl2) perhaps that I can use to set a particular temperature I want to keep my MBP at and it will automatically set the fan speed to keep it at that temp?
NB, I recently swapped my 1 GB of Apple memory for 2 GB of Crucial memory. I'm assuming this might have bumped the temperatures up a little bit but I definitely found my MBP was warmer than usual even before the upgrade.

In general, the upper operating limit for all Macbook Pros is in the 80-90 C range. In other words, the cut-off point is higher than you think, and you just haven't noticed it. The EFI firmware and PMU is designed to managed the fans such that 80-85 C is about as hot as the CPU gets, but of course, they (the fans) ramp up a bit earlier and slightly higher temps are not just possible, but common.
Adding the additional memory may be a contributing factor, but not by much. Certainly, having a second DIMM in place moves the heat being produced by the RAM (considerable, BTW) closer to the bottom of the Macbook Pro's case, and therefore adds to the heat you'll feel underneath. And, just having more RAM will marginally increase the amount of power your Macbook Pro uses; more power equals more heat.
In the end, this is all normal, and I don't see that you have anything to worry about.

I Have 2011 MacBook Pro 13inch . I was having the screen freeze issue from a hot graphics card it cpu that so many others have with this year macbook. After a night of playing videos (not realizing it was in loop) connected to my hd tv using thunderbolt. After the first one it happened a few more time after playing any video for a few minutes. Screen freeze with little pixelated boxes, yellow or blue. After some research I reset SMC and seems sit of fixed it. I am not running SMC FAN AND Temperature Monitor apps and my fans run about 2000 all the time. When I get hit it speeds up but not to much, seems on point. Except when I play hd videos the system get gets to 75-80c . I still have not had the freeze but that's because I have temperature monitor to launch SMC fan set at max fan speed when it get a to 80 d
Degrees C. I'm wondering if anyone knows the safe temp the 2011 MacBook Pro should be running at When playing hd video. I know it gets hotter when playing hd video by without SMC it seems my fans don't kick on to max speed untill the MacBook reached about 85-90c. Once the fans max it cools it right away. I know the fans are working cause I hear them but should the fans kick on faster before it gets to that hot if a temp. And is it safe to play hd movies of its running at about 80-85c?

Macs have established a reputation for being inferior game machines. PC's dominate that area and if that is a high priority, I always recommend a PC.

I also have a 2011 MBP and have run applications that are CPU/GPU intensive with no issues (the MBP certainly does heat up and gets very warm). I have never felt the need for a third party fan control.
If you wish to run games a lot, a cooling pad and a cool environment would help the situation.

Thinkpad T430u low fan speed

Hello!
When I am playing on thinkpad t430u CPU/GPU becomes very hot (95-100C), but fan speed is only 3000-3500 RPM. Using "tpfancontrol" I achieved almost 5000 RPM at manual mode and temperatures decreases to 70-75C.
Why fan is so slow at auto mode?
I updated BIOS, but it does not help. Moreover in BIOS there is no fan settings (quiet/performance) as on my old PC.
OS: Windows 8, Nvidia GPU, latest drivers.

During normal working (word, firefox etc..) temp is around 60-75° with the fan always running at 3800rpm.
While I was doing a map upgrade on my garmin navigation system the notebook crashed many times in a row and I couldn't figure out why.
After some investigation I found out that it was the system overheating protection shutting it down.
I checked this by putting stress on the cpu with prim95 and there the temp goes up as I described in the previous post - just faster than weith the map upgrade. Ambient was 23-24° C.
What just made me wonder is why the hell doesn't the fan speed go up like it once used to do!?
I would expect the fan speed rising at around 75° or so but instead it started at 95° C which way too late!
This is my 3rd Thinkpad and I never experienced this behavior - however I am not sure when it started.

Turbo2/PC Alert III/ Adjustable Low Fan Speeds?

Anybody getting low RPM adjustable fans to register in PC Alert III?
I have adjusted the fan speed alerts on CPU and chassis to min, and still can't get proper fan RPM reading. Am guessing fans are about 1/2 speed (given the amount of adjustment I made), or about 1500 RPM. Now getting red 5 digit fan speeds and case temp jumping around.
Am not asking so I can stare at fan speeds, just to see changes in any adjustments I might choose.
Still loving the low dba of my 2 Enermax fans!

Just got a new case and some gadgets...My Thunderbird 1400 now idles at 42 degrees celsius. Overclocked to 1600 it idles at 42-43, under full load @1600 it doesnt go over 43.
In my old case i had 8 case fans, which made a whole lotta noise, so with this one i wanted it quiet. I put four 80mm case fans in (two front, two rear) and a 5 1/4 drive bay temp monitor/fan controller to run them. When its idling, the fans dont run, just the 5000rpm cpu fan, video card fan and thermostatically controlled psu fans. So its almost silent. When its under load, and the temp hits 43 degrees c. the fans kick in until the temp drops back and they switch off.
Gives the best of both worlds really, when im browsing or downloading or doing basically anything that wouldnt put enough load on the cpu that it needs extra cooling its quiet enough to be unnoticable, but when im gaming the fans kick in to keep the system cool. Since i usually either play games with the speakers cranked up (during the day) or use headphones (at night) i rarely even hear the exta fans spinning...
I picked up a motor speed controller kit yesterday, which i havent built yet, but will use that to control a 120mm blowhole and two 80mm side fans, so i can have them running all the time at around 1000rpm (quieter than the psu) to just give a slight breeze through the case, meaning the front and rear fans should only kick in after a lengthy period of gaming or benchmarking.

Satellite C855 - Average CPU temperature and fan speed

I've had this toshiba Satellite C855 since march this year. it's only recently that the CPU temp and Fan speeds have been worrying me.
When I'm not playing games or doing a livestream my CPU temp stays around 35-40% with the fanspeed at steady 50% or not on at all due to it been cool.
When I do play games however the fanspeed is going up to around 66-68% with the CPU been around 55-60%
I was wondering if this is normal? or do I need to clean it out by taking it apart. if it is the second option then I am worried since I do not want to damage anything inside. plus I am not that great with the inner workings of a computer.
Any help or information would be very appreciated thanks.

In my opinion there is no reason for panic. T is logic that under stress CPU activity is higher and CPU produces more heat. Notebook must be cooled down properly so sensors that control cooling fans register growing temperature and cooling fans will run on higher speed.
There is no reason for cleaning. And one day if that must be done please dont do it alone. You are not authorized for doing this.

Normal woring temperature and fan speed?

I have installed vista x64 bit on macbook pro and have some questinos.
FIrst, can someone help mi to find keyboard shortcuts for turning on/off wireless network and bluetooth... if is this possible.
Second, I have installed "input remaper" that allow me to reconfigure some keyboard shortcuts, and it automatic control fans and monitor CPU tempereature. It is between 60-70c and fan speed is set on 2000 rpm minimum... Is it this ok, mean this temperature because machine is sometimes really hot....

I too have been wondering the same things. My temps are very high as well 68-69C for the GPU and 65-67C for the CPU cores when under Vista. I do not believe that Vista has any method to control the fans at all for the new unibody macbook and macbook pro models, at least that is the conclusion that I have been coming to myself. I have tried speedfan, riva tuner, coretemp, input remaper, and ati tool, all to no avail. Nothing knows how to properly access and control the fans for the laptop under Vista, and on top of that, the 9600 GPU is the one in use when under Vista, which means even more heat at idle. This really needs to get fixed with an update of bootcamp or a full driver release for vista.
