Holding the end of a Ken Burns frame

I want to hold the end of a Ken Burns zoom. The input is a _slide or photo_, not a film clip. How do I create this effect?

Here is how you do it.
1) Select the photo in the iMovie project and set the Ken Burns start and end rectangles.
2) With the Photo selected, select Edit/Copy and then Paste a duplicate of the photo behind the first photo.
3) Select the second instance of the Photo and select the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns tool. It should already be set to Ken Burns mode. I would move the start green rectangle so that it overlays the red end rectangle exactly.
4) Now, select CROP instead of Ken Burns.
5) Click DONE and you are done.

  • Pausing at the end of a Ken Burns Effect

    Hi,
I have a number of photos that I am using within imovie. I am applying a Ken Burns effect to scroll or zoom on the photo. At the end of the effect I would like the photo to pause.
The viewer would see a photo, the zoom/scroll get to the final position, then the photo held for a couple of seconds.
Is there a way of acheiving this - i know i can import the photo twice, the first doing the effect, the second with no effect - but how do i get the second photo exactly the same as the first photo after effect?

I don't understand what "Option-click" means: how is this executed? I
Hold down the Option key on the keyboard, then click on the Start end of the Start/End thingy. In this context, Option-clicking applies the End settings to the Start, so the clip no longer has an animated zoom.
I also don't see how one selects the duration of the "pause".
The whole clip we're making is the pause. It's a second clip that plays after the first (zooming) clip. These directions create a second clip that "pauses" after the first clip zooms.
Option-dragging the first clip makes a copy that we change into a pause. (Holding down the Option key and dragging the clip to another location duplicates the clip.)
    Hope it makes better sense.

  • Slight pause at end of each ken burns effect

In iMovie 10, there seems to be a slight pause at the end of each ken burns transition, ie it pauses for a split second at the "end" frame, and there is a stop in motion from one pic to the next. The previous iMovie didn't do this. How do I get smooth ken burns from one pic to the next, so there is no pause?

I can not reproduce this whether there is a transition between the clips or not.

  • Can I slow down the rate of movement at end of a Ken Burns?

And can I bring up a still, then have the burns effect begin aftyer a second or so?

Just add the same photo with no KB effect before the photo that you are adding the KB effect to.
Basically you will be adding the photo twice. one with the KB effect one without. The key is to make sure your KB effect starts at the same spot as the preceding image.... otherwise there could be a little jerk
    yes....
To slow down the rate of a Ken Burns effect simply add more time that makes the movement much slower...

  • How can I modify the Fit, Crop, or Ken Burns effect for the entire movie?

How can I modify the Fit, Crop, or Ken Burns effect for the entire movie? I've been having to go through them all individually which takes forever.

You could try  Edit > Select All  then click on the crop button and change the setting from Ken Burns to Fit.
I find that this only works if you do not have the Automatic Cross Dissolve transitions in place.
If you do, File > Project Theme and uncheck the transitions and remove them.
After you have changed from Ken Burns to Fit, you can re-apply them.
Easiest way in future is to set up your project (File > Project Properties) before you start adding photos.

  • Why does the skimmer stop at the end of a line of frames?

I am a new user to iMovie.  I have 10.0.6  When I am skimming clips from my GoPro and I get to the end of a line of frames, I have to use my cursor to go the beginning of the next line of frames.  Should it just fluidly go to the next line or is that the way it is?

  • Holding the end of a crawling title.

I have a crawling title, but I want the final phrase to stay stationary in the middle of the screen, rather than just disappear at the end. How do I make this happen?
I thought changing ease out to 500 and post roll to 500 would make it slow down, and then pause on the final frame, but instead, if i change post roll to anything, the whole title is just the final frame, and it doesn't display any of the rest of the title.

  • Problem at the End of a CD Burn

I was burning a cd and making a playlist at the same time, and as the cd finished burning, i was dragging songs onto a playlist, some C++ error occurred. the cd burned properly. now, everytime i burn a cd in iTunes, just before the confirmation beep that the cd is done, i get an error beep, then the good beep, and my mouse cursor goes to the spinning hourglass. it does not go away. the cd burns properly however. Now you can continue burning cds without the error beep but the spinning hourglass cursor never goes away (ie somethings wrong). anyone else heard of this? how can i fix it? also every other cd writer program functions properly. i tried uninstalling/reinstalling, etc

Screen flows don't have decision reports because the flow itself doesn't really represent a decision/determination.
Also, when a screen flow is attached to the summary screen, it does not have an associated 'Why?' link. If you're seeing a 'Why?' link for a summary screen item then either it isn't a screen flow, or there's something weird/custom going on.
'Why?' links are associated with rulebase attributes attached to the OWD summary screen. If you get an empty decision report when you click the 'Why?' link (i.e. the conclusion but nothing else) it suggests that either:
    - there is no logic associated with that attribute, e.g. it's the goal attribute in a conclusion-only rule, or
    - the logic associated with the rule has been set to invisible/silent (i.e. http://docs.oracle.com/html/E36313_01/Content/Decision%20reports/Hide_information_in_decision_report.htm)

  • Trying to add a pause after Ken Burns effect to hold the photo

I am trying to set a pause to my still photos after using the Ken Burns effect.  So it starts zoomed in on an area of the photo and pulls out and then I want it to hold for a few seconds so you can see the full photo.   Any suggestions?  I can't find anything anywhere???

    1) copy the photo with the Ken Burns effect
    2) place the copy after the original photo
    3) edit the copy, reverse the order of the Ken Burns effect using the arrows next to the word "Start" so the end point is now the start point, change "Ken Burns" effect to "Crop", and change the duration of the copy
If you want the pause at the beginning
    - place the copy before the original photo
    - edit the copy by just changing the "Ken Burns" effect to a "Crop"  (i.e., crop using the start point),and change the duration of the copy
If you have a "pause, ken burns effect, pause" don't use a transition after the 1st pause and before the 2nd pause.
With a group picture, you can simulate a real Ken Burns effect with
transition, pause, zoom in, pause, [pan, pause] ... [pan, pause,] zoom out, pause, transition

  • 10.1 - transform or ken burns don't work the same

What happened here? I've done this hundreds of times. I import a still image from photoshop. I drag it to the timeline, and hit the crop button, then ken burns, and immediately the start and end green/red boxes, adjust, hit done, and that's it.
Now, when I drag the clip to the timeline, and hit, say Transform, nothing happens. The photoshop file I happen to be placing is about twice the size, so all I see is a giant portion of the still.  Same with Ken burns. I hit crop, and then Ken Burns, and nothing happens. The giant middle of the image just sits there.
Am I missing something? What happened? I did a google search on Ken Burns + 10.1, and aside from a new feature, I see nothing about the basic functionality having changed.
I'm completely stuck and can't edit anything without this.
    Help!

You need to select the clip and have the vertical white ponter over the clip for the red and green boxes to appear.
You can use the Scale slider in the Transform section of the video effects to reduce the size of the image to fit the window.

  • Idvd not capturing the ken burns or full picture view.

I am making a memorial video and have ken burns that are acutallly cutting out the focused object rather than zooming. I tried to burn standard and widescreen and nothing is correcting. Please advise

Q: ken burns that are acutallly cutting out the focused object rather than zooming.
A: Did you manually set / adjust the Zoom while using Ken Burns effect? (see links below to see how to perform this). Also apple's tutorials are worth watching for iPhoto, iMovie, and iDvd if you haven't yet done so.

  • How come sometimes the Ken Burns effect allows you to edit the entire picture, and other times it automatically starts at a smaller section of the photo?

How come, in imovie, when adding the Ken Burns effect to a still photo, sometimes the phoo appears as the full size, and other times, the green and red ken burns boxes appear only on a smaller portion of the picture? I want to be able to Ken Burns a bigger chunk of a picture, but often times it is as if there is a pre-set for just how much the Ken Burns will cover.

Is it possible that the ones that have small boxes are in Portrait while the ones with large boxes are in Landscape?
If so, you can get bigger boxes on the Portrait ones by clicking "Allow Black" in iMovie 11. (iMovie 09 did not have this feature.)

  • Nudge Ken Burns zoom location

I want to line up two still frames--one that ends after a Ken Burns zoom (in) and the following one that "freezes" where the zoom ended. Is there a way to nudge the location of the ending zoom (or beginning zoom for the following frame)? When I try this I don't have fine enough mouse control to line them up accurately so there is a small jump from one to the next.
    Any help?

    Very easily done.
    1) Create original KBE.
    2) Select the image containing the KBE and press "Command-C" to copy data/settings to temporary memory.
    3) De-select the image, move playhead to end of segment, and press "Command-V" to copy data to project window.
    4) Select the newly added image and open the Crop Tool window.
    5) Press the Start-End Revers icon to swap red and green KBE windows.
    6) With the old End window now set as the new Start window, press the "Crop" button.
    7) exit the Crop Tool window and set the timing duration for the "Hold" image.
If you have followed these instruction correctly, you should now have a seamless transition from your KBE image to your "still" image.

  • IMovie 6.0.3 won't render Ken burns effects or Themes

I'm working in iMovie 6.0.3. Whenever I try to apply a Ken Burns effect or a theme, the red "render" bar completes, but then I just end up with a frames of empty black the same length as whatever I had tried to put there.
I tried deleting the com.apple.imovie file in the Preferences.
I used the disk utility to restore permissions.
    I emptied my caches.
    I've restarted my computer.
Do anyone have any suggestions of what I could try?
    Thanks!

Just saw this June thread - I have iMovie 6.0.4 and am having this exact problem. I can't believe that there aren't more threads about it. This is the first video I've done since upgrading to OS 10.5 and iLife 7 and then importing the old iMovie 6.0.4 for obvious reasons.
I filled the timeline with photos, set them to the music, then previewed Ken Burns Effect and it looks great. But when I tried to update using KBE and all I get is a BLACK clip that acts like a blank in my timeline. If I apply KBE directly to a photo in the photo tray the same thing happens. KBE is completely unavailable to me!
Let's keep this thread going until we find a solution. It's not the version. Thanks!

  • KEN BURNS imovie clip timing PROBLEMS!!!

I'm having some trouble adjusting the timing for pictures that I have put the Ken Burns effect onto, in imovie. I have selected all the clips to be 4 seconds long. Then I have selected the Ken Burns clips to be 4 seconds long as well, but they either have to be RENDERED in order to change the time (and this, I've heard messes up the quality of the pic making it "jagged") OR it only allows the picture to be set at it's pre-given RANDOM lower than 4 second time.
Make sense? PLEASE HELP! I'm about sick of imovie with all the problems I've had.
    Thanks!

Then I have selected the Ken Burns
clips to be 4 seconds long as well, but they either
have to be RENDERED in order to change the time (and
this, I've heard messes up the quality of the pic
    making it "jagged")
You may have misunderstood something important, Smiley, so I want to correct it. Ken Burns does NOT add jaggies to images. It actually INOCULATES the image from getting jaggies later.
The jaggies are added when you press the Create iDVD Project button (in the iDVD tab). That's when iMovie offers to render any unrendered photos -- convert them to video clips. If you grant permission to render, the jaggies get added to those clips.
Ken Burns renders images beautifully. The rendering routine iMovie uses later adds the jaggies.
OR it only allows the picture to
be set at it's pre-given RANDOM lower than 4 second
    time.
The user interface for configuring Ken Burns settings is confusing and sometimes buggy. Until you figure it out, it sometimes appears to have a mind of its own. For what it's worth, I've never seen KB apply random durations to a group of images, and it's not a complaint we see here. So my guess is you're doing something inconsistent with how the Ken Burns user interface likes to do things, or you've bumped up against a bug.
One bug is that the text boxes in Ken Burns are quite unreliable. It's best to use the sliders to set the duration and zooms instead of the text boxes. The duration slider is more reliable than your typing the duration in the text box at the end of the slider, for example. If you use the text box, remember to hit the tab key after entering the text. And, of course, be sure to use the sec:frame format, e.g. 4:00 or 4:22. If you type the numbers differently, iMovie will probably do something unexpected.
One of the interface anomalies occurs when the Ken Burns checkbox is on when you select a photo in the iPhoto list. Then Ken Burns does a preview dance in its little thumbnail image, with animation. As that animation runs, changing any Ken Burns settings will almost certainly fail. You will probably accidentally set a feature you didn't intend.
Here's why: As the animation progresses, Ken Burns switches from the Start position to the End position. If you click on a photo in the list, then reach up to set the Start position, you'll probably unintentionally set the End position. So always wait for the preview to finish before setting anything.
Another confusing (but useful) feature is that Ken Burns always applies the features of your last-clicked-on Ken Burns clip to the upcoming import. So if you pre-set your Ken Burns features, THEN click on a previously-imported Ken Burns clip, the Ken burns settings will change from YOUR settings to the settings for that clip. (That's immensely useful, for it lets us apply the settings of a clip we like to one or more photos we want to import, but it can be very confusing.) So if you have manually configured some settings for the next import, do NOT click on a clip before importing that image.
Another bug: if the Ken Burns checkbox was OFF when a photo was imported, clicking on that clip does NOT correctly re-display the settings for that clip. Ken Burns doesn't correctly show the pan or zoom. If you Update the clip with a new duration, the pan and zoom of the new clip won't be correctly applied.
I don't know if any of that helps you figure out what's going on there, but hopefully so. If not, describe EXACTLY the steps that cause the problem to occur so others can test it.
