  • Changing the home name

    I just bought a powermac g5 off my friend and the main user account is under my name but the home icon is still in his name and most of the computer information has his name on it. I don't want to re do the whole computer because it has a lot of programs on it that i don't want to get rid of. How do I change the home name on the computer.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Be sure your friend follows this procedure*:

  • How to Find Oracle Home Name

    Hi All,
    I am trying to find what is the name provided for ORACLE HOME NAME for SSO Midtier.
    The install log files are not available. Now when i try to patch the SSO it is prompting for the Oracle home name and path, for which I donot know the value for Oracle Home Name.
    Is there any file apart from install log will have this value or is there any way i can see it from the OEM console?
    Regards,
    Balaji

    Hi,
    The server has:
    1 SSO
    1 MidTier
    But have been installed with the same Oracle Home Name - oracleas
    Now I have to patch the SSO to 10.1.2.2.0
    During patching if I give oracelas1 as oracle home name it automatically changes its path to Mid Tier path.
    If i manually change it to SSO path it throws an error.
    If i give a new Oracle Home Name manually and type the oracle home for SSO, it says this SSO doesnot need the patch 10.1.2.2.0 but the SSO still runs on 10.1.2.0.2
    Let me know if i am clearly.

  • Switched Home Name, Files Now Missing

    Hello all,
    I wanted to change the short name of my computer; I followed the directions on an apple support article about logging in as the "root" user. Once I did this, I went in and was able to change the home name to the short name I desired; however, my entire system reverted to like I just installed Snow Leopard again (personalized dock apps gone, desktop image default, and all documents gone).
    I was able to find everything because the system was still using the old home folder.
    My problem now comes with iTunes. Last evening I attempted to change the iTunes Media Folder location because it was going to the old name and there was nothing there. I changed it to my /Users/username/Music/iTunes and all my music is there, but no playlists. The current location is: /Users/my username/Music/iTunes/Automatically Add to iTunes.localized. What do I need to do in order to get my playlists back? I read a support article about doing something with the file named iTunes Library.xml and also something for the file called iTunes Library.itl (moving them to desktop and then adding them as playlists?).
    I just don't know what happened to my computer and would like to understand it all so I can fix it. It seems that me changing the home name messed everything up.
    Thanks for any advice or guidance you can lend...I am kind-of freaking out.

    Whenever I need to change a shortname at work, someone who gets married for example, I open NetInfo Manager, click the lock to authenticate, and find the name I want in /users. For every attribute in that record that has the old name in it, I change every instance of it to the new name. Do the same for /groups (there is a group named the same as your shortname). Then, change the actual home folder name in the /Users folder to the new name. Make sure you're logged in as a different admin user at the time of the changes.
    <Disclaimer>
    Of course, mucking around in NetInfo Manager can screw up your system... make sure you're changing the attributes you mean to change!
    </Disclaimer>
    Hope that helps,
    Jason

  • How to change the Home Name

    Hi,
    I'm on a a MacbookPro5.5 and for some reason, my Home name (that resides on the left sidebar) is still listed as 'Apple'.
    I want to change the Home name and so I've right-clicked it and gone into the 'Get Info' window. But the Name field is greyed out and won't let me enter a new name. I've tried changing all privledges to 'read and write' but that does not seem to help at all.
    I appreciate any pointers on this ...
    Many Thanks, Frank B.

  • I bought a macbook air mac os x 10.7.4 from a colleague,how can change the home name.ty

    i bought a macbook air from a colleague (mac os x 10.7.4) iw ant to change the home name how can i do it

    Really, the colleague should have restored the computer to the original state before he sold/gave it to you.
    Ideally, you would erase the drive, and reinstall the operating system to make the computer system "yours", entirely. Your natural apprehension is that you probably want to inherit all of the colleague's installed applications and files (some of which probably violates licenses for those apps and files), right?.
    Provided that you are legally acquiring all these files/apps, alternatively create another admin user (you), and then login under the other user name and transfer all wanted/needed files in the colleague's home directory to the shared directory. Then login as "you", and subsequently transfer these files to your user directory. After this is all done, delete the colleague's admin account (deleting the old users directories as well).

  • Changed home name lost all data

    Has anyone experienced this? I changed my home name (has first and last name, took out last), was on the internet, and then lost everything. Any programs I opened wanted me to register. I restarted, and now everything is gone, but it is in the original home name (first and last). I'm a college student and in a huge panic as all of my essays are on my computer, and not backed up. Not to mention my photos and other things...
    What can I do to bring everything back?
    Please help!!!

    Open the Users folder in the Finder and rename the item with the house icon to tempfolder, and then rename the folder with your files to the former name of the folder with the house icon. Log out and back in to restore your data.
    To change the name of your home folder successfully, you need to update the home property for your user account in the NetInfo Manager, which is located in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, or create a symbolic link which tells Mac OS X where to find your home folder, or use this tool to change your account's short name.

  • Content viewer displays "---" after folio name in browse view

    (also posted to pre-release forum)
    I recall in the pre-release bundler there was a place to indicate issue number and this would appear after the folio name in browse view. Is there a way to do this with the new tools in the Adobe Content Viewer app? Maybe in the sidecar.xml document? Right now it leaves three dashes after the name.

    You need to use the Folio Producer Organizer (http://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com) to specify the Folio Number for a folio. You can't use sidecar.xml or the Folio Builder panel to specify the folio number.

  • Why does my ipod touch 4gen keeps going back to home page when browsing on the apps store

    Why does my Ipod touch 4 generation keeps going back to home page when browsing in the apps store.
    I called apple 5 times today and asked me to restore it 3x the problem still exists. This problem starts to occur yesterday after upgrading to IOS6.
    Apple customer service is not good enough as they cannot fixed the problem or tell me that I can change the unit as I just bought this 2 months ago.

    Because there is a bug in iOS 6 that effects the 4G iPod touch.

  • Changing Home Name

    I wish to change the home name that appears at the top of the Finder screen, I suppose this should be easy I cannot work it out. Can any one help I have wasted hours?

    Home name? At the top of the Finder screen? The only thing I can think of that could maybe match that description is the user name (which would match the name of your home folder) in the right side of the menu bar if you have fast user switching enabled. If you want to change your user name, that's not an easy or recommended task, but see this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1428
    If that isn't what you're trying to do, you need to be a little more clear.

  • Home Name Help

    I unknowingly changed my home name. I used the right click of my mouse. Is there anyway to get back to the original Account and remove the second one. I would like to get back to the original state. I am new to Mac, just less than two months old. Can someone help

    Presuming what's happened is that you remaned your home directory and after a restart you have a new home, default, directory. In the case all you need to do is to…
    1) Restart
    2) Rename your current home directory to another name
    3) Rename your original home directory back to what it should be
    4) Restart
    5) Confirm all is well and then delete the 2nd home directory (assuming there's nothing you want in it - if there is take those files out and then delete it)

  • JDialog box with room to type in a file name or browse files

    Can anyone please tell me how to get a box with the message please choose a file to open, a strip for the user to type a file name into, with a browse button to the right for finding files, and then an ok button underneath.
    Thanks tonnes

    Here's the whole function in its current state:
    public File getOutputFile() throws IOException {
    int result = chooser.showSaveDialog(FileInputFrame.this);
    if(result == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION)
    { String fileName = new String();
    System.out.println(chooser.getSelectedFile());
    fileName = chooser.getSelectedFile().getAbsolutePath();
    System.out.println(fileName);
    File aFile = new File(fileName);
    return aFile;
    else
    return null;
    I'm using JBuilder, so it always says which line the exception is on, and it is always thrown at the first line where chooser.getSelectedFile() is dereferenced, so I'm pretty sure that it is returning null for whatever reason.
    I have the default directory set to "~", so it comes up with a listing of everything in my home directory. Then I just type in a name that does not appear on that list, and poof, exceptions galore.
    OK, here's a really wierd thing. If I use the name of a file that already exists in my home directory but save it in some random subdirectory, there is no problem. But, if I use the name of a file that exists nowhere in that same subdirectory, I get the exception.
    I wonder if it is a system permissions problem, as I do not have admin permissions on this machine, although everything is running out of my home directory, so I should have write permissions. I wonder also if it could be system dependent-- I'm running redhat. I don't have a lot of experience trying to interface with the os/file system, that's why I was so happy to find the JFileChooser class in the first place.
    Thanks for your thoughts on this!

  • Specifying pdf document's name in browser - content-disposition problem

    Hello ,
    I want to open a PDF document in browser, which needs to have a specified filename when user tries to save it.
    My web app sends an "application/pdf" document back to the browser.
    I use the Content-Disposition HTTP header to instruct the browser to open the document inline, i.e. using the appropriate plugin, which is Adobe PDF in this case. When the user clicks Save As..., the document filename needs to be the one specified by the same HTTP header. Here is the code:
    response.setContentType("application/pdf");
    String contentDisposition = "inline; filename=\"filename.pdf\"";
    response.setHeader ("Content-Disposition", contentDisposition);
    response.setHeader ("Content-Length",new Long(file.length()).toString());Unfortunately this does not work for me. Document opens fine, but I can't get it to have the name I specified. The plugin uses the default name, which is the full URL of the document. I tried several combinations of HTTP headers, but neither worked. I tried putting an additional GET request parameter at the end of the URL, like ...&filename=filename.pdf , but that didn't work either.
    I tried Adobe 7.0 and 8.1.2.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks a lot!

    Thank you very much for your answer.
    Needless to say I tried opening the document in IE, FF and Chrome, and neither worked.
    I had a look at the code at your web site, and saw that you were serving files for direct download: Content-Dispositoin:attachment... .
    This works fine for me too, and the filename is recognized correctly in that case. The problem is, I want to display the PDF inline...
    My server is not configured for URL rewriting, and I would be probably quite some problem to make this app work with it, so the /filename.pdf is not an option for me.
