Home Share Issue

I set up homeshare successfully and had no problems with authorizing any computer within my network. However now that I can access my computers via homeshare I am not able to import songs onto my other computers.
Anyone know how to fix this or is anyone having the same issues?

They still won't play if you can't authorize them, even if you transfer them by USB.
Do a right-click > Get Info on one of those tracks. Look at the Summary tab, and see if "Purchased By" or "Account Info" has any tiny difference between a track that did transfer OK. Does one have a lower case letter and the other does not? You might have to contact itunes store customer service.
Mine still all play (knock on wood) but I have noticed through the years, Apple has changed my "Purchased By" details several times. Just lately they have all changed to the Ping display name I briefly had in place. The "Account Info" (email) has stayed the same, though.

  • More Home Share Issues

Been browsing all the home share issues here but not seeing this symptom. I have 4 comps on the same wired network. Upgraded all to the newest itunes and activated home share with the same account on all...sharing options all checked and turned on.
This issue is on one of the 4 comps. I can see the other 3 home share libraries, but when I click on one it says "loading xxx library" but then after a few seconds the window goes back to the music library on that computer...it never shows the other libraries on any of the other home share comps. I can access the folders on those machines directly over the network...even can play the songs on them using Tunes as the music player. But I can not get those libraries to show up from the home share function.
Any ideas out there ?. I don't even know what to tinker with at this point.

Same issue for me. 3 pc's running iTunes 9.0.1, two on Vista and one on XP. My daughter's PC (running Vista) can see the other libraries on the Home Share but clicking on it only briefly shows my Library and then the focus returns to her Library. Additionally she can no longer connect to the iTunes store as the progress bar simply stalls at around 50% when clicking on the iTunes store icon.
No internet issues from her laptop - she's able to do everything (and see our network) as she always has been.

  • HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share?  I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all.  Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
    1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
    2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
    3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
    4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other:  "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • Home Share Issues

I have my my music libary on my Mac and I have a windows PC (work) I am trying to import movies and music from my MAC to windows laptop. When I try to import a song i get a message that says "AUTHORIZATION IS NEEDED TO ACCESS 0" when i try a movie I get the same message or "network has timed out". i also get a message "THE URL 0 COULD NOT BE FOUND ON THE SERVER"
I just did a test in reverse I imported from my windows laptop library to my MAC library and that worked fine?
Is there some kind of fix for this? Does this "sharing" really work?

I have two machines. With iTunes 8, sharing was working just fine. Upgraded to 9 - No more sharing.
I have found something interesting. Seems like everyone is troubleshooting firewall ports, playlist settings, file permissions, ect.
Is it possible the 'credentials' for the home share are not being passes properly?
    Try this.
    STEP1:
    Advanced Menu>Turn On Home Share
    Enter Apple ID and password.
    Click create 'create home share'.
    DO NOT CLICK DONE!
    TEST1:
Under the shared menu, right click on home sharing, click 'open in new window'.
Notice that your credentials are missing.
    TEST2:
Double click 'Home Sharing'. Again, no username shown.
    Test3:
Click the Down arrow next to home sharing. It should 'minimize' home sharing. Click it again, home sharing comes back. Click on home share. Again, Apple ID.
Any way we can test this? What port does this thing talk over on the LAN?
Any script we can test with the iTunes COM?

  • Odd Home Share Issue

Got a PC, installed iTunes, set up Home Sharing. Everything went fine, shared the music, huzzah!
The problems came when I wanted to move some of my movies over to the new machine. Only 5 of my 70+ movies are showing up in home sharing. And it's an odd collection. Some iTunes purchases show up, some most don't. Some rips show up, most don't. Any ideas?

I have not figured this out....and no one else has replied with any ideas...it's very frustrating...the home share seems to work on 3 of 4 comps

  • Apple tv home share issues

I have 2 AP2.  One sees my library and the other doesn't even though I have logged in with the proper particulars.  Is the Appletv defective or should I do something?  I've resetted but not restored. (ethernet)
    thanks

    Well,
I suddenly saw the Airplay icon today. It shows up when I am connected to the main router ( I forgot to mention that all my devices are connected to a router via an access point). So when connecting Apple TV to the default gateway (main router) and iPhone to the access point (or vice versa), I can use Airplay and Mirroring. I do not know WHY??
    Can any one tell.
Does it happen that Access point close some of the ports opened by the main router?

  • HT202213 Home share is on but does not work

The home share has now done this twice. I have the icon on all devices but twice not they dont work. They cant find one another. I have shut done and restarted all devices and checked to see the home share is on. It tells me see its on but the icons said no devices. I bought a apple tv so I could do this but this is getting to be a pain.

Sounds like the lcd display died.  If it's under warranty with your carrier, call them and get a replacement.  If not, it's time for a new BB.

  • IPad & iPhone not showing correct Home Share (Apple TV is!)

I have setup Home Sharing in iTunes and have enable it across iPad & iPhone and they are both using the correct Apple ID
The problem I have is that my Movies and TV Shows that I have recently added are not showing up on the Home Share on iPad or iPhone.
The Home Share is setup for Apple TV and everthing is fine.
    I have:
Disabled Home Share and re-enabled it
    Restarted iTunes several times.
I have deleted one file that was visable on iPad and that now no longer appears - So there is a connection but I'm not sure where the iPad is looking?
On iPad I have two different TV Shows displayed but multipe copies of them are showing: See image: When
Eg, Series 1 Episode 1-10 are showing 5 times if not more
I have now reset my iPad and the issue still exists.
    Any idea's appreciated.
    Thanks
    Steven

    Hi,
sure i can. The automatic correction is an enemie to me.
My last sentence based on the menu from iTunes->File->Library->Oraganize Library.
    More Details:
    1. Make a screenshot from your iPhone or iPad with the duplicates
    2. Click in iTunes on your pc in the tv shows section an choose the duplicate tv shows.
    3. Right click-> Show in finder
    4. Copy the file to an external hard drive
    5. Delete the entry in iTunes
Repeat that with all duplicated tv shows
    6. Choose in the menu file-library-organize library.
    7. Close iTunes and reopening it
    8. Check on your iPhone or iPad if u have some duplicated shows.
    9. Copy the removed tv shows back in the library. But only one by one
    10. Testing after ever tv show if the are duplicated.
    That's all.
    Hope it works for you.
    Best wishes

  • ITunes 11 Stops Responding to Bonjour Discovery Multicast Broadcasts, Why?  This stops the the Apple TV 3 from being able to start a new stream from the home share and the iPad remote app can no longer see the home share too.

I'm having an issue where my Apple TV 3 and all our iPads periodically seem to loose connectivity to an iTunes home share on a Windows 7 PC.  Using a network protocol analyser on the PC I have identified that the point of failure corresponds to the ATV3 sending a bonjour discovery request and getting no reply from iTunes.  Why the ATV3 'forgets' where the home share is is possibly another issue but the root cause of the failure is that iTunes, or more specifically the mDNSResponder service, is not responding to the UDP multicast port 5353 broadcast discovery packet sent by the ATV3 or iPad.  The mDNSResponder service does start responding again after iTunes is restarted thus making the home share accessible once more, however, this frequent drop out is unacceptable and often happens after only a single TV show has been watched from the home share making the solution unworkable for a family, we simply cannot be restarting iTunes constantly it ruins the user experience completely!
The nature of this failure indicates that the ATV3, the iPads, the host PC and network are all working correctly and the point of failure here is the lack of response to the bonjour discovery protocol with the net result of either a spinning 'connecting to home share' message or the home share just disappearing from the computers section.
If there is a configuration fix for this please let me know as I haven't located a fix!  Otherwise this seems very much to be a code flaw in iTunes 11 or the mDNSResponder and I would appreciate some input from Apple!  Going on other questions in these forums it would seem the problem is not limited to Windows PCs but also Macs too.  NB: This is not a TCP issue, when the ATV3 or iPad knows the IP of the iTunes server all works flawlessly, it just periodically they seem to refresh the list of home shares and at this point they loose the information about the home share they have just been using because of the non-response to the UDP multicast discovery broadcast packet, that is arriving at the host PC and isn't being blocked by the firewall.
    Many Thanks!

In my case there was no import from a former mac.
My problem (at least mine) is that no app that offers media sharing works properly. Neither itunes home sharing nor AirVideo nor EyeTV sharing.
So I'm pretty sure that this is network issue.
Adding another user on my mac and sharing a new library works not also. But sharing from another laptop in my WiFi works. So this has to be a network issue on my mac, not only my user, but an issue of the whole system.
But I'm not willing to reinstall MacOS X for that if I don't have to.

  • Home Share on One Computer with Two User Accounts

We have one computer in our house with two user accounts. I have an iTunes account and my husband has his own. Due to many moved music files and whatnot, it is very annoying and difficult to try to find songs from his library to add to mine using the Add File (or Folder) to Library link in the iTunes file menu. I am unable to access some of the songs currently in my library because he moved some of his files and my iTunes can't locate them any longer. I was hoping Home Share would solve our problem, but can't get it to work. Is it hopeless for me because we technically only have one computer? Is there an easier way for me to add some of his songs to my library without searching through our five or six different iTunes library folders on multiple hard drives?
We have both enabled Home Share on our individual user accounts, but do not have the Home Share icon appearing in our iTunes side bar.
    Thanks for the help!

I was able to get the two iTunes home shares to work on the same machine and "see" each others library as long as I have them both open at the same time (for the Mac, using fast user switching made that very easy). Once the home sharing was working, playing music/movies/etc worked but when I tried to import / drag and drop from one account to the other it acts like it's doing it but then doesn't.
This may be perhaps unique to me because of my unusual setup, I set my "secondary" account to use the iTunes folder of the other, "primary", account to avoid having two copies of the same thing. Doing it this way meant I didn't have two copies of files on my computer, but it did mean I had to "Import to Library..." the media into the "secondary" account every I added something to the primary. I wonder if giving each account it's own library location would resolve this issue (while unfortunately meaning that the two accounts would each have a copy of all of the music/movies/etc, doubling my drive space usage). I'll update this post if I find out anything more.

  • Can't watch rental on Mac after watching it on ATV via Home Share

A couple of times I've rented a movie from iTunes on my Macbook.  When my family wants to watch it, I turn on Home Sharing and am able to use our Apple TV to select my computer, go to the 'Rentals' folder and view the movie.
However, when we've finished watching it, I can't view it on my Macbook anymore.  I get a 'Could not play the rental because it is authorized to play on another computer or device'.  Even if I turn off the Home Share and put the Apple TV to sleep, I still get this message.
Since I'm not actually "transferring" the movie file from my laptop to the Apple TV, I'm confused as to why I can't watch it on my laptop after we've viewed it on the Apple TV.
Renting movies is expensive, and you only get 24 hours to watch them.  This technical issue is really causing problems for me.  Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

Lots of new intermitant and odd network issues with the last two ATV updates.  I know this sounds weird and makes no sense, but if you are using WiFi switch to wired or if wired switch to WiFi.  It is too long winded to exmplain why.  Give it a try and see if it helps.

  • HT4363 I have 2 iMacs with the home share activated using the same account ID and password, but only 1 computer at a time will show up on the main Apple TV "computers" menu. Can I have more than 1 computer sharing?

Will ALL computer's home sharing show up on the "computer's" main menu on the Apple TV screen, and if so, can I switch between computers while they are using the "home share" feature?

This should not be a problem, I have a mix of Apple & PC libraries on the ATV.
Looks like you have another issue going on there, perhaps one of your computers is going to sleep or something.

  • Itunes 10.5 Home share not working

I recently updated to itunes 10.5, and now my home share doesn't work.  I can get a song to play from my computer on the tv, but not a video, and I can't access any of my media on the apple tv.  Windows 7 and apple TV 2.  It was working fine prior to the itunes update, so I'm pretty sure it's related to that.  Any advice?

    Hey guys,
This is an enormously frustrating issue and I am disappointed that it does not seem like Apple is taking it seriously, much less solving it.  I have seen a lot of people desperate to help and I have tried many of the solutions that made sense to me (repair iTunes; create Windows Firewall Exceptions) and ignored the ones that make no sense whatsoever (reboot your Internet gateway; deauthorize your computers).  I am on a Windows 7 x64 machine fully patched, single 8 core CPU with 24GB RAM and 6TB of storage - it ain't the machine...
This seems to be a unique problem to iTunes 10.5.  Here is why I believe this to be true:
    1.  I disabled WFW No result.
    2.  I created WFW exceptions NO result at all.
    3.  I did a repair install of iTunes  - Actually worked for one night.
    4.  Uninstalled iTunes 10.5.  Installed iTunes 10.4 and everything works like a champ.
Apple needs to solve this issue, I'm afraid until they do anything that gets you up and running is temporary.  In any case getting a consumer oriented click-to-install application should not require a project plan and customizations to work properly.  This is true even if WFW needs tweaking that simply tells me they didn't test their installer enough to ensure it properly configured WFW, including removing erroneous entries...not an issue on my machine...
I am standing by for Apple to sort this out...until then 10.4 is my friend.
    Cheers

  • Upgraded to 10.9 and OS X Server 3.0.1, users cannot connect to home shares

Hello.  I recenlty upgraded from Lion Server to Mavericks and Server OS X and users are now unable to access their home shares.  When one attempts to afp to the server after connecting to my uni's VPN, the login box simply shakes and no connection is made.
Running Mac Mini with 10.9 and OS X Server 3.0.1 with home shares located on a Pegasus RAID array that worked fine under Lion Server.  The upgrade seemed to go smoothly, as all accounts were intact and the settings were identical to the functional Lion Server settings.  I have combed these forums trying to find a response that actually works for me, but was unable to locate a match that resulted in a working solution.
Here is a sample log when attempting to login:

When I first upgraded, I was able to connect via PC but not Mac (10.9) clients, so I tried creating a new account to attempt to ferret out the problem.  When I created a new account in the Server.app connecting to an existing home share, I was still unable to connect to it remotely--Server.app threw the "Cannot authenticate connection..." error and closed.  I then attempted to create a new user and new home share directory in Workgroup Manager and received an error stating the home directory could not be created (I forgot the actual verbiage, but I will replicate and post if needed).  I tried simply adding the folder to the home shares folder, but I was still unable to connect via afp or smb.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, as I need to resolve this issue ASAP.  Please let me know if any other information would be useful to diagnosing this issue.
    Thanks!

I have the same problem although I upgraded from Lion Server to Mountain Lion Server. The error appears to go hand in hand with this error.
userInit: CFPreferences: user home directory for user kCFPreferencesCurrentUser at /Network/Servers/fullyqualifieddomainname/Users/user is unavailable. User domains will be volatile.
I've read a number of things to try. A lot of people point to DNS being a problem, but I'm confident this is correct in my environment.
