Homesharing missing

Now that books have moved from iTunes, you can no longer share the books with homesharing.  Any mavericks mac with latest itunes will not have the books option anymore.   There goes an easy ability to share purchases with the family.   To make it worse, you can't copy the file easily either as it is hidden deep in the ~library folder and .epub files are  expanded out to a folder that is not easy identify by name.  Add this to the lack of abiity to edit metadata, and this app is a big step backwards.

So combing seasons in iTunes allows the iPad to see more. Why it is limited I don't know.

  • Tried to import iTunes library from desktop to laptop via Homesharing but everything didn't import.  How do I get missing content?

The whole story: I tried to transfer my iTunes library via Homeshare from my desktop to my laptop but not all of my library imported.  Both computers are authorized and almost all of the 99GB of music was imported from my own cds. I couldn't tell what was missing and I figured a computer person would have an easy way to figure this out.  In the meantime, I added about 20-25 more cds to the library on the laptop.  I had a computer guy come out because I wanted to merge the two libraries so I can get rid of the desktop.  He dragged and dropped several folders onto the external hard drive and then dragged and dropped those into my music folder on the laptop.  Now I have a big mess!  I have tons of duplicates, but the entire library didn't duplicate so I am still not sure if all of my music made it over. He wants to delete all of the duplicates but I explained that I don't want to break up albums and I had already gone through the process of finding "exact duplicates" and deleting those on the desktop before I started all of this.  I talked to a Geek Squad guy at Best Buy who suggested I delete everthing from the laptop and start over.  He wants me to open iTunes on my desktop and select all, then drag that to a new folder on the external hard drive.  Then reinstall iTunes on the laptop and drag and drop that folder into it. I have no idea what to do at this point.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Please know that I am not very computer literate so please type slowly so that I will understand ;-)  Thanks
Sidenote:  I did sign up for IMatch and had Apple scan both libraries.  Not all of my music showed up there either.  I am missing entire albums, etc. and I have not reached the maximum limit, 25,0000 songs. Should I purchase TuneUp Media to fix any metadata once I get my complete library onto my laptop?  I just want my entire library together, in one place so that I can move forward and back it up properly. Thanks for any help.

Delete whatever was imported to the new computer via HomeSharing.
Stop using HomeSharing to move content.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
    Launch iTunes.
Everything in iTunes on the new computer will be exactly as it was on the old computer.

  • TS2972 How come when I do the homesharing quite a bit of my library is missing?

Many of the songs in my homeshared library are missing. Why is this?

It has to do with the resolution of the picture you are using for the contact. The lower the resolution, when it is increased to full screen, it pixilates, like any other photo would when it has been zoomed. Contact pictures added from the phone will be full screen, contact pictures added in Outlook will only be thumbnails in the corner.

  • HT201272 Im trying to download my old songs on my new laptop. I am on homesharing with another computer, my files should have been on his pc right? My Ipod erased my songs so im putting them back on, all of my songs arnt anywhere to be found or have a miss

All my songs have gone missing from my past itunes acount even though I had homesharing, tried all of the things on itunes support and none have helped me most of the songs on itunes homesharing have a missing content symbol, and its getting fustrating now, Please help us find a solution

Media is only where you put it.
Having Home Sharing turned on does nothing to ensure the media stays put.
Why do you believe your media should be on "his pc"?
Where was the media at toe begin with?

  • One of the computers on my homesharing network is automatically downloading purchases even though settings are not checked for this to occur?  What am I missing here?  BTW only one of the three computers (pc) is doing this.

We have three computers (two pcs and one mac) on our home sharing network. When I buy a song on my pc it is automatically downloading it to my husband's pc - but not my daugher's mac.  The settings on each library do not indicate any items should automatically download.  What am I missing here?  This is  a relatively recent thing I just noticed.  It was not always happening in this way.  Help.  Both pcs are on Windows 7.  Thanks in advance for any help.  My husband and I don't always like the same songs so I need help to get back to marital bliss....

I think I found the answer to my own problemin case anyone experienced the same thing.  There is a separate spot in itunes under preferences to allow for automatic downloads from other devices.  It seems unrelated to home sharing.  I unchecked the boxes under the "store" section and that appears to have taken care of the issue.

  • Tv shows missing when homesharing

Just posted this in the iPad forum before finding out there is a homesharing sections. Tried homesharing to my iPad tonight. TV shows would not show up in the list after the letter J. Works fine on the AppleTV and iPod Touch. Any ideas?

  • Issues with itunes error -50, determining gapless playback, missing speaker options, home sharing not working

In the last few weeks I have been experiencing multiple issues with my iTunes.
I believe it began when my itunes library corrupted and I had to start again.
By starting again I mean I went to previous itunes libraries and used the most recent backup.
After I noticed a large number of unknown error (-50) messages I thought I better copy the backup I was using from the previous libraries folder over to the itunes folder (in case the error related to failed attempts to back up the library).
This problem in itself wasn't too bad as I am able to close and relaunch iTunes and carry on however I have noticed some less desirable side effects - the loss of home sharing. I am unable to pick speakers to broadcast to (I have 2 airport express units plugged in and working and an Apple TV2) and I am unable to access the iTunes library on Apple TV.
I've done some basic troubleshooting: creating rules to allow the home sharing ports, temporarily disabling antivirus/firewall, uninstalling antivirus/firewall, setting up rules on the router for homesharing ports, uninstalling iTunes, rebooting, reinstalling iTunes and retrying, disabling home sharing and reenabling, disabling peerblock, deauthorising itunes and reauthorising and rebooting both the pc and Apple TV, checking sharing settings under preferences and verifying both the entire library is shared and that the status of home sharing is on but no devices connected, created a new library and reimporting my media and the problem still exists.
I noticed that occasionally when I switch between libraries, deauthorise and reauthorise I do get access to home sharing and Apple Tv gets full access to the library BUT iTunes quickly becomes unresponsive and when I close and relaunch Apple TV can no longer see my library or iTunes.
I have checked the network I am running on is marked as a home network, I have tried connecting the Apple TV via LAN instead of WiFi but this makes no difference. What I do find interesting is that I have iTunes running on another pc and on a virtual machine and as soon as I run either their libraries appear on Apple TV so there must be something about the installation on my pc and nothing wrong with the Apple TV, airport express, router etc.
With that in mind I retried an uninstall and this time deleted as many tmp files as I could see in the iTunes library folder, rebooted and reinstalled. I also checked the permission levels on the iTunes application folder and the iTunes library folder (located on an additional internal drive), I then tried running iTunes as an administrator (which my user account is already set as) but all the problems are still evident.
The determining gapless playback has no effect on how I use iTunes but it clearly does not need to run for every single recently added track any time I make a minute change to other library entries. I tried looking up one of the files it was determining gapless playback for but it wasn't corrupt or read only so I don't see why it needs to retry continually.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit with all latest updates installed and iTunes 64bit 10.6.3.25, all apple devices are running the latest version of firmware and I'm running out of ideas. I did try running CCleaner to clear up and registry issues if there were any and I ran Appcleaner to remove any iTunes cache that may have been left between installs. I'm running out of ideas - what am I missing here?

I have found the problem was in part caused by Windows firewall.
Exactly how Windows firewall can cause the problem when I wasn't even using it I don't know.
What I do know is that when I checked 'allow a program through the firewall' I found 4 rules set for iTunes, one of which was public network access.
I deleted the superfluous rules and the Home Sharing problems are solved.
All that needs sorting now is the 'determining gapless playback'.

  • Homesharing: fail to synch music between iPad3, iMac 10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.1, and iBook on 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.

I would love some ideas: Cannot get home-sharing to show me any existing iTunes content stored on either of the computers, on my new iPad. Homeshare works between the two comps, (and Apple TV, although unreliably.) Aware of the need to use one identical user ID to sign in to all and iTunes. MacBook currently on OS 10.4.11 with iTunes 9, an iMac OSX 10.5.8 w/iTunes 10.6.1. iPad 3.  My last resorts are to buy Snow Leopard x 2, Buy Lion x 2, and then move to iCloud (losing my iWeb maintenance - disappointed - is Apple giving up all web maintenance capability - or is there an alternative iI am missing?) and then after iCloud move, "hope" that it can all interact better - but not sure why.
Currently the iPad can "see" that the iMac homeshare is there - if I click on the 'more' option, then folllow the 'shared' and select iMac all I see after the spinning wheel is a blank grey screen with iMac written at the top, and a few icons in top and bottom bars. I have tried resetting the iPad, switching the server and computers all off and changing user ID and passwords to all synch. No luck yet. Any ideas?

    1. Yes, you need to buy a new OS. Mac OS X 10.6 requires a Mac with an Intel CPU and at least 1GB of RAM.
    2. It won't erase your files unless a problem occurs. Back up everything anyway; this can be done with Time Machine or by creating a bootable clone, and requires an external drive.

  • PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues

Finally copying iTunes from my PC to Mac.  It was suggested by Apple that I do this via homesharing.  Why is it that 1) PC itunes has 2196 songs 2) Mac itunes sees 2192 but only copying xxx of 2093.  Why am I missing 100 songs and no, not a purchased music issue...those are coming over quite fine!

SO SORRY, I Was disconnected in the middle of editing this (said Apple Discussions being updated)  After writing above, discovered my PC didn't still have Home Sharing enabled (may be necc to enable after every update)
    Corrected response as follows
You should try the following to at least determine which songs are misssing:
launch iTunes on both computers, Make home sharing on BOTH computers
Select your PC's iTunes Library icon on in the Leftside Sidebar on your mac. Give it a moment, till all items appear.
Now click the popup on the bottom left of window where it says "All Items", and choose "Items not on my Computer"
You should now be able to select a song and click "import"
Out of curiositly: try to analyze why those items didn't transfer:
    1. Are any of the items in your PC's library missing? (They'll display an exclamation point icon)
    2. Formats: Are the missing songs in WAV / WMA format? I don't know if  iTunes Mac supports WMA (iTunes PC will gladly convert WMA for you.). I don't think either version does WAV.
To test, on your PC, make visible the "Kind" column (via View Options- control-J)) sort by kind see if there are any WMA tunes
    3. Unlikely but possible: The method you used only transferred purchased items.
    4. There is something corrupt  or wrong about the songs in question (windoze permissions issues?)

  • Homesharing wont appear on itunes on same computer. HELP??

    Hi,
I'm having considerable trouble in getting homesharing to work on my computer. I have logged into the same apple ID in homesharing on to different users on the same laptop, but on neither iTunes will the libraries show up. I have looked through countless threads including this:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972, but it simply doesn't work for me. I really would apreciate some help, thanks.

    Hi Manutdfan19,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
MAYBE IF YOU YELL LOUD ENOUGH IT WILL WORK! Did you look at Knowledge Base Document #61711 on iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes on Windows?

  • Homeshare stops after 15 minutes with Apple TV

My homeshare keeps shutting off after exactly 15 min.  I go back to my computer to see that my computer has automatically switched to pick user/login screen.  I have put both the computer and display sleep to "Never" in Energy Saver under System Preferences but it still occurs.  What am I missing?  Every movie, slideshow, etc - I have to go back to my computer to log back in to get it to work again...   Thanks

    Hi,
did you also unselect ' Put hard disks to sleep when possible'  ? that worked for me, below the settings I use in energy saver and since than apple tv works perfectly.

  • Airplay fix for homesharing on atv2

Hey kinda word but it's helped a lot for my airplay working hardly ever I would do the usual shut off homesharing in iTunes and turned back on it ask you for your apple ID password and then it says create homesharing button and homesharing shows up in left side column of iTunes. Then another page shows up with a button to click saying done. When I click done homesharing disappears. Don't click done! Just ignore it and homsharing stays showing in iTunes and it works I would say at least 60-75% better I still think my time capsule airport express set up is not set up quite perfect and that's why I'm having problems with atv2. I think my neighbor and his wifi that keeps showing up with my mini Mac trying to access is a big problem too. I have to go to Internet sharing in settings and click off Internet sharing then back on and my mini Mac grabs my wifi and everything starts working not sure why it drops mine and try's to grab my neighbors... Oh well I'll get it but try that don't click done and see if it helps it's the only way homesharing would stay in the iTunes column.

Mini Man, I'm glad to read you found a solution to your issue, but I don't know if your solution is going to be mine as well.
For starters, I do not have the new Apple TV - at least, not yet. I have ordered one, but it will not be delivered until some time next week (sneering glance at Steve & Co. for abandoning that platform rather than making it AirPlay compatible).
But that is not really my issue: my issue is that my two Airport Express units do NOT show up in the iPhone, though the DO show up on my iPad. This tells me they have been properly configured (both units have names, and are connected to the house network), so there must still be something missing from the equation.
And, judging from the response of a few others who have chimed in here, I think it's save to say that the experience is not altogether uncommon.
I'm surprised nobody has come back with a more direct solution to the common issue. I may have to call AppleCare someday this week...

  • Homeshareing

I was trying to share photos from my iphone to my windows base computer through homeshare. It showed it was transferring or copying the files, then indicated it was done. I disconnected my phone but when i checked it, all my 250-odd pictures except for one were gone from the phone. I checked my music library and it appears to be there, but random songs and albums are also missing. where is all the data?

Hey Brian, I have the mini set to never sleep.
I also have a static IP for it on the router too. Unless the static IP's are gone after a power failure, cause if thats the case that might be my problem????

  • A possible reason to problems with HomeSharing and TV shows

I discovered this bug and it may account for some of the problems people describe having with HomeSharing and TV shows (Shows or episodes missing when accessing a homesharing library).
If one selects one or several TV shows (individual episodes or whole season) in iTunes, only those selected will be visible when accessing the shared library from another mac. To fix it, I have to disconnect from the shared library (clicking eject arrow), deselect the TV shows (in list view using the column browser, select All Genre, All Shows and All Seasons) and then reconnect to the shared library.
This problem dos not occur with Movie or Music files.
The problem do not apply if accessing the library from an iOS device (iPod Touch,iPad2,iPhone4, iPhone5).
The library is shared by a Mac Pro (mid-2010, 10.8.2, iTunes 11.0.1(12)) and the problem occurs when accessing the library from a MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac mini (all using iTunes 11.0.1 under 10.7 or 10.8). All TV shows are home-ripped or home-recorded and do not use any DRM.

If i select music on my machine using the column browser then only the selected music appears under music on in the home share on my wifes machine. If I select the top entry eg Steve's Library then everything shows.
Just tried it for TV Shows and it does the same
Resolved it by removing any selection on my machine, Ejecting the Home Share on my wife's machine. Re selected the Home Share and it reloaded the full list

I know this email is confusing and really hard to understand...perhaps now you will know how i've been feeling--lost and confused with all the mis-information, with a hit and miss phone, and out of time with all the 1 1/2 hr to 2 hrs EACH wasted on this issue.
On top of all this, I can't even find out how to file a complaint with anyone higher up than Customer Service.
I hate to tell you this, but you didn't write an email. You wrote a discussion post on the Verizon Wireless Community forum which is a public peer to peer forum. Unfortunately since you didn't mark your post as a question, the VZW reps that roam this community won't ever see your post. Before you re-post it, don't. Duplicate posts get removed from the community.
I see there were several missteps both by the reps and yourself in your post. First you should have insisted on returning the phone within the 14 day return policy period. Second which Samsung Galaxy mini model did you purchase? The S3 mini or the S4 mini? Did you do any research prior to deciding on this device. The reps at that time deflected the easiest course of action, by trying to get you to replace the phone under insurance instead of returning the phone. The Early Edge payment option requires the current phone on the line using the early Edge must be returned to Verizon Wireless. Did you once considered going to a third party site like Swappa to purchase a gently used device for your daughter?
