Hooking my Stereo up.

I have Audigy 2 Platnium and im trying to hook my stereo to my card. I have the audio cable hooked up but its not working. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

the defenition of "stereo" is nowadays very wide.
but i assume that you're talking about a stereo stereo ...grinning.
So left speaker and right speaker...
Is your stereo one with a amplifier that has a Tape/cassettedeck connection.(like tape rca's (red/white line out and rec-in ? ...
Well in that case do you've 2 cables of the next type:
stereo (3-pole) 3.5mm minijack on one side of the cable , and 2 (a white and red) rca connectors on the otherside of the cable.
Good go on.
Now look at the manual of the soundcard to discover the right minijacks connection of the back of your soundcard. You need the line out and the line-in.
step = Connect a wire from Line-out to the tape in(play) of your amplifier(stereo).
(actually you can use any line-input(cd/tape/tuner) exept the Phono(phono is preamped so only for phono)
step 2 = Connect a wire from Line-in to the tape out(recording)of your amplifier(stereo).
(actually you can use any line-output(tape rec out/tape rec out2/Equalizer/etc.)
So if you connect your pc to stereo see pc as a tape/cassette deck, easyer to understand(analog recording/playing device), and in your situation , don't forget to configure the creative speakersetup as only stereo analog out, so no dolby or surround and so , otherwise you get strange effects on your 2 channel stereo system)
good luck, so be sure you get those 2x 3.5mmstereojack -> 2xrca cables.
and you only use the 3-pole minijack in stereo(line out and line in on the soundcard, with dolby decoding enabled on the soundcard you must use 4-pole minijacks on line out 2 and 3.Message Edited by www_96KHz_tk on 05-29-2005 0:46 PM

  • Want to hook up stereo speakers

Hi, I have an old Imac and have it in my workshop. I'd like to hook up some basic speakers from an old stereo and also have them amplified. Is there an easy, inexpensive solution to this?

Unless the speakers are powered, your gonna need a stereo amp to plug the speakers into, then run a wire from the headphone port on the computer to the amps aux input.
If the speakers are powered (Computer style), you should be able to plug them into the headphone socket and off you go!

  • AE hooked to stereo - very high volume!  adjustable?

I have been using an Airport Express plugged with analog headphone plug into a fairly high-end Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver. Works great.
I just bought a 2nd Airport Express and plugged it into a much smaller, far lower end Tivoli Radio Works system. I had my iPod's dock plugged into the aux input and was using that fine. I replaced the iPod with the AE and notice that the AE-output sound is extremely high volume. I set the Tivoli's volume to maybe 3-4% and it's as loud as I'd ever listen to it normally.
Not sure why I didn't notice this on the Yamaha - perhaps it scales down the input? Is there a way to get the AE to "quiet down" on the Tivoli? Some AE setting? Thanks.
Is it damaging to plug the AE to analog line in on a stereo, given the volume?
    blakespot

For the AX, the analog audio is handled by a Texas Instruments PCM2705 digital-to-analog converter which it outputs on a 3.5mm stereo minijack. It has a maximum output level of 1.53V, which is 2.3dB lower than a CD standard's 2V. The output impedance is around 15 ohms across the audioband.
It appears that the audio input port's impedance, between your Yamaha and Tivoli, are different and why you are hearing a significant difference in volumes. The signal from the AX is not amplified, and thus, why it would require either powered speakers or a LINE in for play back.
The AX gets is audio source, by default, from iTunes. You can adjust the output level from there.

  • Stereo speakers to audio video hook ups

is it possible to hook up stereo speakers by themselves to the back of my tv...how do i convert to speaker wire to audio jacks. what do i need to do this with
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No, it is not possible to do so because tv's do not have the required amps inside to sustain the power of the speakers. You would have to buy a stereo receiver. (i.e. 5.1 receiver)

  • Stereo A/V input?

If I get a new Mac, I would like to get one that I can hook up Stereo A/V cables
(red, white and yellow) for display on the screen, so I can take screenshots. Is
this available on Mac, and if so, what is the product called?

I think there was a misunderstanding.
I want to display images coming from an A/V source on my Mac screen,
so that I can take screenshots.
I do not want to send my Mac display to a TV screen.
The PC equivalent is something like a TV tuner card.
    Something like this maybe?

    or maybe:

Does anyone have any impressions on these products compared to others?

  • Why does AirPlay stop working ?

I've tried hooking my Stereo to the AirPort (Express) and plays sound from any device fine, but only the first use. After that there's no sound coming through. Has this problem been encountered before and fixed ?

There may be issues with your local network causing the devices to lose connection.

  • Inspire T6100

I have recently purchased the inspire T6100 5.1 system. I believe my laptop has an analog 2 sound card, what do I need to connect and use the T6100. Can the same be used to connect the speakers to my dvd player? Are the speakers compatible with an ipod? Requesting early replies as I can't wait to use the speakers.

If you want 5.1 from your laptop, your best bet is a decent usb 5.1 external sound card. I think the "Live! 24-bit External" is such an example, but am not sure. A usb2 one would probably be a better bet anyway. Bear in mind, if you are not planning to do much surround on the laptop (ie, no dvds, gaming etc) then I would just hook the stereo from the built in sound up to your speakers. It will still sound great, just from two speakers.
As for the dvd player, you need to have a look and see if it has 5.1 outputs (lots of rma/phono connections). If it does, you just need phono to 3.5mm jack leads to hook up to the speakers. If it only offers stereo and digital outputs, you would need something like the ddts-100 to decode it. This would have the advantage that it would act as a switch for the dvd/laptop and would upmix the laptops stereo too.

  • ITunes cuts out when using Airport Extreme - what's going on here

I have a Powerbook G4 with both Airport Extreme (hooked into Comcast internet through ethernet) and Airport Express (hooked into stereo in the next room).
Where I used to live had the same set-up and had full 4 bars of reception. I moved this past weekend and had Comcast internet set up again in a different city (same set-up though)
Now I have maybe 2 bars of strength on the Airport Extreme and when playing music on the Airport Express it plays for maybe 5-6 seconds, cuts off, then comes back on. This cycle repeats.
When I hooked the ethernet directly into the Airport Express the music worked just fine.
Is the Airport Extreme dying on me? Please help.
    Thanks

Thanks - went to the Extreme and Express and turned on interference robustness. This helped in that now I have all 4 bars of signal strength.
Still getting the cut-off on the ITunes though. Have gotten the "error 3256" twice now and Itunes freezes. Looked it up online and it said the cause is a 3rd party router or firewall - I dont believe I am using either. Error 3256 means something is blocking the UDP traffic which causes the Itunes to turn off and on.
Am very frustrated Itunes wont work. Its only 15 feet from the Extreme Base Station. I moved the 5.8ghz cordless phone (8 feet away)and the Comcast VOIP phone modem (10 feet away in closed closet) but to no avail.

  • Snow w Express x2 - can't join network

    Hello,
I have had a Snow Base Station, SNOW, ethernet to cable modem
and an, Airport Express Base Station, APE1, USB to HP Photosmart 7760
With 2 macs, one older AP wireless card, other with AP Extreme card
Works great for most part .... but that is another issue.
Got a 2nd Airport Express, APE2, aiming have it join the network, hook into stereo, play iTunes.
Ran Airport Setup Assistant, about a 1/2 dozen times now.
Get all the way through process of joining network, waiting for restart, Setup Assistant says it is setup, entry made in keychain for it, etc. etc.
But, on restart, after SA restarts it:
green light comes on for a second
then steady amber ... typical restart process
then it flashes yellow forever after.
Tried going back into SA to fix/reconfigure, neither sees it as new, nor recognizes it as being on network.
Tried fixing/configuring via Airport Admin Utility and it does not see it either.
Have a widget that detects networks, it does not see it either.
Snow & APE1 still work fine.
Tried resetting APE2, about 5 times.
After resetting then SA sees it as new, go through setup process, says it did so Ok, back to flashing amber light.
Had APAU open and in process of using SA to set it up as new, noticed it appears in APAU, so switched over to Admin Utility and set it up that way ... same thing, restarts, flashing amber.
In searching support saw that there was a firmware update, 6.0.3, applied that all around ... no difference.
    Help.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Got it.
    Gave it one more shot.
    Went into Airport Admin Utility.
I had set up Access Control List for Snow (APAU>select Snow from list> configure>Access Control tab)
Added the MAC airport address, on the label on APE2 to list and it successfully joined, after updating Snow.
But I think they need to make it harder to read.
White letters on light gray background.
Ds look like 0s, so had MAC address in there wrong.
Font for address needs to be smaller, paler, through in some Os, as in the letter, make the background lighter shade.
Oh, a mention or 2 of needing the MAC in setup instructions might help too
    Anyway fixed it.

  • I have a linksys WRT54G router that we use as a base. I want to use Airplay using Airport Express and hook up my stereo to it. How can i set up my Airport express without a PC/laptop? I just downloaded Airport utility on my iphone and ipad, will that work?

I have a linksys WRT54G router that we use as a base. I want to use Airplay using Airport Express and hook up my stereo to it. How can i set up my Airport express without a PC/laptop? I just downloaded Airport utility on my iphone and ipad, will that work? And one more thing about the setup, the linksys router shich acts as a base is in a different room as the airport express which i wanted to use for airplay. So I'm hoping to hook up the Airport express via wireless signal. If i can set it up, can someone pls help me out by posting detailed instructions. Thanks so much!

The first message that AirPort Utility will display during the auto setup will be that the Express will be confgured to "extend" the network. When AirPort Utility analyzes the network further, and sees that the Express cannot "extend" the 3rd party network, the next message will indicate that the Express is being configured to "join" the wireless network.
Once the Express is configured, if you later go into AirPort Utility to check the settings under the Wireless tab, you will see that the Wireless Mode is indeed "Join a wireless network".

  • Ipod no longer works when I hook it up to stereo

I have a 30GB ipod and when I ordered it a year ago, I also ordered a cable to connect it to a stereo system (with the red and white plugs). It has always worked before, but when I tried it a couple of weeks ago, I got nothing. I tried turning up the volume on the ipod and on the speakers, but still, nothing. I tried turning the ipod off completely and then connecting it to the stereo before turning it back on, and I tried connecting it while the ipod was on as well. The ipod works fine through the earphones--no problems there.
My question is, before I buy a new cable that I may not need, could there be something in the ipod settings that I need to change? I'm wondering if the last update I did (to version 1.2) changed something that I need to change back.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any advice would be appreciated!

I haven't tried hooking up another ipod to the stereo, but that's a good idea. I will try that in the next couple of days. The stereo works fine with the DVD player hooked up to it, and I also tried plugging the ipod into one of the other ports (for DVD, etc.), so I think it has to be the cord or perhaps a firmware issue. Anyway, thanks for responding.

  • I am trying to play my digital music off a hard drive onto my home stereo.  I would like to know if the mac mini can just hook to my processor and play music through the processor(preamp) on my home stereo speakers?

I currently have a nice home stereo component system.  I also have a 500 GB external hard drive loaded with music.  I am looking for a way to play the music off this Hard Drive onto my home stereo system.  I currently have a WD home entertainment box that I can play movies that I download off the Internet on my TV, of course piped through my home stereo for the sound.  I would like to know if the mac-mini could be used in this form also.  Just have the HD hooked to it, the TV would become my monitor and the mac mini would play the music ... RANDOMLY ... with the use of iTunes.  This of course would be hooked up to the home system with an hdmi cable and the HD hooked up through a USB connection.
Just would like to know if this could work?

    Yes. Is the short answer.
You can directly connect the speaker out port of the Mac mini to an input on the AV Receiver which then feeds your speakers. This would be an audio only solution. If you use a TOS-Link connection this will be a pure digital connection ensuring the best quality (important for audiophiles).
You can if you wish connect the video from the Mac mini to the AV Receiver, and if you have a Mac mini with HDMI or a Mini Displayport you can run the audio and video via a single cable. (Older models would use two cables, the aforementioned TOS-Link pus a DVI to HDMI cable.)
If you do connect the video output from the Mac to the AV Receiver you can then display this on your TV, and have as one possibility iTunes displayed with perhaps one of the iTunes visualisers playing along with the music. Another possibility would be to use FrontRow on the Mac.
A different approach would be to have the Mac mini stream over a network to a device e.g. the Sonos Zoneplayer which is then connected to the AV Receiver. An AirPort Express is also able to do this.

  • Hooking up the digital optical out to my stereo reciever

I just got a new Core 2 Duo Mac Mini and I want to hook the digital optical out to my stereo. However, I noticed the connector does not seem to be a standard stereo optical cable. What do I need to do to connect this to my stereo reciever which supports digital optical in?

Actually some toslink cables that yoiu buy, come with them. I remember buying a 6' Philips that included the adapters.
Oddly enough, I think I found it at Wal*Mart (maybe target).
