i am hoping to upgrade my 6680 to N93 and junk my iPaq so that i have all my information in one place - but before i do i have one question...
does the PIM function - notably the calendar and 'to do' - carry more information than on the 6680?
currently i sync my 6680 with my iMac and it works really well but only takes the headline information, so no notes or details associated with the event or the 'to do'. is this still the case on symbian S60 or will it take more information on sync?

I hope I'm in the right place... Puzzling Startup Problem.
I've got an iBook G4 running OS X 10.4.2.
Here's what went wrong. I was running Software Update today, and it started installing the new Tiger update (10.4.3). Somewhere along the line it froze, along with several other programs that were running (Safari and iTunes, I think). I tried to force-quit those other programs, but accidentally force-quit-ed the update instalation instead. Once all programs were closed I attempted to re-run the software update, but System Preferences kept quitting on its own, and when it tried to send notice to Apple that something had quit "unexpectedly," that message utility shut itself down as well. So I restarted the computer, and recieved only a grey screen with a grey Apple logo, nothing more -- no spinning gear-thing, and the drive is clearly not spinning. Now that's all I get.
Here's what I tried to do to get things working again. I tried to boot in Safe Mode, but nothing happened after about 7 minutes of holding down the shift key. I tried resetting both my RAM and my Power Management Unit (at the direction of someone at Tech Support), to no avail. I booted from a Tiger install disk (not my own, unfortunately, which I don't have at the moment; I had to borrow one from a friend) and ran the Disk Utility to repair the hard drive; Disk Utility told me there was nothing to repair. I even tried to boot in single-user mode to run fsck. Here's where things happened that I don't understand, because I don't know a thing about programming language and code and whatnot. When I tried to boot in single-user mode I got this message about 8 times in a row (I'll type out the whole thing since I don't know what is and isn't important):

So, questions: (1) What the heck is going on? (2) Is there anything I can do short of reinstalling my OSr, or is it time for last resorts? And an ignorant question: will reinstalling the OS cause me to lose data -- files, music, that sort of thing?

Congratulations, and welcome to the fun-filled world of kernel panics. Yup, that's the text in the gray box you're getting.
The good news is you don't necessarily have to reinstall Mac OS X. If you have access to another computer and a FireWire cable, you can reinstall the 10.4.3 update, and everything should be groovy.
* Connect the two computers via FireWire cable. Your iBook should not be on yet.
* Boot up your iBook and hold down the 'T' key as it starts up. The iBook will enter Target mode.
* Download the Mac OS 10.4.3 update on the other computer.
* Run the 10.4.3 updater as normal, but select the hard drive of your iBook when you get to the list of available volumes.
Failing that, you can reinstall Mac OS X on your iBook from your install DVD. When you select your volume, make sure you click on the 'Options' button and select 'Archive and Install'. You'll retain all your personal files and network settings, but you might have to reinstall applications, haxies, etc. -
Most answers tell me how to update firefox or how to fix it, how to make the plugin check work or tell me some workarounds. That´s why i think Mozilla has no interest to let the people disable the plugin check, because it got implemented for a reason.
But the whole thing is not about computer science. It is about psychology, respect and the free will of the people.
At first i get annoyed by this plugin check, then i want my revenge. I want to disable the plugin check! I do not want to make the plugin check work. I do not want to install a new version of firefox. I do not want to update my firefox and i do not want to fix my firefox. In fact i want a (virtual) sledge hammer to destroy my firefox - just a little bit regarding the plugin check.
But one feels treated like a child, that has to be protected from it´s own decisions.
That´s when i feel annoyed the second time around.
So, if mozilla doesn´t grant me the choice to disable the plugin check at will, i am only free to decide which browser i´m going to use.@ the-edmeister
I´d like to apologise if you felt offended by my question. That was not my intention. Within my explanation i tried to describe the feelings of an unexperienced user like my father (77 years old). Because i felt the answers given so far were evasive. Everybody recommended to update or fix firefox respectively the plugin check, but no one seemed to answer the question if one can disable the plugin check completetly.
I just wanted to know if there is some kind of censorship that blends out answers inconvenient to mozilla. Thank you! -
Not sure if this is the right place...Recovery or Finding missing files

Again, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but its worth a shot.
so i've been transcribing video all day using microsoft office for mac, and was saving the project (i thought) to an external hard drive. at one point the HD came unplugged, and i plugged it back in. no big deal. i continued to save, to type, save, type, etc until finished. so when i finished and saved the project, seemed okay. when i closed word, it kept asking me if i wanted to save changes...i said yes, and it would just ask me again, did this a few times. i assumed it was asking me to save it to a new location, which i didn't think i needed so finally said no.
i then find out that somehow when the HD was unplugged it erased Words ability to save to said location. so my last save was really before the HD was removed, which is odd, because i kept saving and never was prompted the path was interrupted or anything.
so my question is two part...
1. where would i find in the depths of the computer the saved files? if i was saving, they had to have gone somewhere, but i dont know how to find them.
2. also, assuming it wasnt saving, my word prefs say it autosaves every 5 minutes, so those files must exist somewhere also, yet can't find them...
does this make sense, can anyone help me?

In Finder, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes".
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists.
See if it may be in one of those with a 1 or 2 added to it. -
wow wrote that in the wrong place. First time using this forum thing. Question is still the same. I don't think I'm looking in the right place. It says, "Please contact iTunes support to complete this transaction". The reason it came up is because I added a credit card to my account. Do I have to just reset my password completely and all my security info and re-enter it?

Woa! Worst case of TinyMCE editor experience I've ever had here! This happens to be the first time I've used this same computer to serve up music (WinAmp [version unknown] on Win XP Pro) while visiting forums.adobe.com. I usually play music from a physical, separate CD player & amplifier or, occasionally, from a different computer over LAN. (MAN, this is hard to type!).
Any chance you other editor/performance complainants are running a music player while typing in this TinyMCE editor? If so, which OS and player?
WOW, but this is horrid on this dual Xeon box (two physical processor chips plus hyperthreading) in this current XP Pro SP3 boot configuration.
(If no relavent replies to my OT, I may try to replicate later and post results if I can replicate tonight's performanceee.)

I know this isn't really the right place to ask, but could someone explain why when I open Portal 2, that I got off steam and spent a whole day downloading, keeps crashing when I click the Campaign/Single Player mode. It Freezes and then crashes. Help!

ATI HD3870 - have I put this in the right place?
I've just upgraded from an XT1900 (which was slowly frying itself and causing all kinds of graphics issues) to a nice, new HD3870. All's gone well so far with installation and setup. Only one thing is worrying me a little: the 1900 occupied Slot 1, and I've done a direct swap with the 3870. But the 3870 is shorter and its installation has left me with a gap in the back of the machine which was previously covered by the grille on the 1900. Shouldn't I cover this gap up? It strikes me as an obvious dust conduit. If so, with what? Or should I move the 3870 to another slot?
High power cards have to go in slots 1 or 2, so your card is in the right place. Any computer store should have a blank PCI cover for the empty space between slots 1 and 2 when you use a narrow card in slot 1. The space should have a metal cover to prevent electrical noise escaping, not just dust.

I have audio visualization on my pc, so when i play songs from MP3, random patterns etc are generated, this im sure you know.
well, is there a way to turn my MP3 track, into a VIDEO so i can attach the Visualization to the song - and burn to CD, and put in my DVD player...?

But what you need is screen capture software (Fraps for example...go to download.com or google for other screen capture software). You'll need to use the capture software to create your video. Then use some kind of authoring tool to create your DVD, with the sound and video files put together.
If you came to a Java forum for help with this, the solution might be a bit over your head... -
The text is in hebrew so the problem is that sometimes the quotation marks not in the right place.
For example i have this text: תווית

This is the source original text you can see the quotations marks and they are not in the right place and all i did is copy paste.

The problem is in the line:

When it's getting to the line with the quotation marks it's never equal.
Now there are more quotation marks.
In general the problem when comparing both text if it's having quotation marks it's not the same.
So i have two options:
1. To fix it somehow so the quotation marks will be the same in both variables when comparing and also the same like in the original as they show in the html page.
2. To remove the quotation marks from both variables.
What should i do ? And how ? I was prefer to use the original quotation marks like in the original since they have a meaning in the place they should be. The question is how can i do it ?

Are you saying that when the webclient gets the data that it is not honoring the quote characters? Or the processing of the data buffer is causing issues?
This is what I see the of your example text which is trying to be parse out:

It appears to me that the escapes `’` does not have matching `“` anywhere within the tooltip. So it appears that the page properly places left quotes in when processing the page, but the raw html has broken text.
Hence a garbage in, garbage out situation.

Slideshow-Images not displaying in the right place on the screen
I am trying to use the SlideShow widget for the first time. I have a pretty basic slideshow with six images that I want to display. When I preview it in IE or Firefox,what I get is really weird. The first image displays in the right place. The second displays in the right place, but with a black box underneath it. The third displays under where it's supposed to go, with a black box above it. After this, the images alternate between where they're supposed to be and just below that, with a black box of the same size in the second location. I've looked at the source of other webpages that have working slide shows, and I don't see a difference between what I'm doing and what they're doing. Here is what I think is the relevant code. Can anyone suggest a way to fix this?

Put the right sign in the right place
I'm not even sure if Captivate 4 can do this, but I want to have quiz that gets the students to put the right sign in the right place. i.e. a hard hat sign on a photo of a building site. Student would have a list of sign images and it would be a case of dragging and dropping the correct sign in the correct place on the photo.

Presently I can see two possibilities here.
1. Use a Matching Question. While you may not use a drag and drop, you could accomplish the goal by listing two columns and establishing the matches.
2. Use a Hotspot Question. In this case it still won't be a drag and drop. But you could insert an image of the sign, then have a hot area where it would logically go. The user would click the area to choose it.
Perhaps one of our resident Widget Wizards has a solution in the form of a widget you could acquire and use.
