HotSync

Hi as a new member with little computer experience I appeal for help.
I recently had a computer crash which resulted in a rebuild of motherboard, processor and hard drive with the usual reloading of software and peripherals. All went well until I reloaded my Palm desktop which I have updated to the latest Palm download.
I have been unable to download from my Z22 my contacts which is the main use I have for this equipment, on a hot sync the program halts at 3 from 13, "Synchronising Date Book", also I notice the listing on the desk-top does not coincide with the   programs on the hand-held.
Any Ideas?

For whatever it is worth, I've had no Hotsync problems with the Address Book, To Do List, or Memo Pad Apps.  I upgraded from the Beta version of Palm Desktop for Windows Vista to Palm Desktop by Access, Version 6.2.2 late last summer.  HotSyncing worked fine for all Apps for a few days, but Date Book Syncs have failed since 09/16/08, as shown in the abbreviated log shown below:

To the best of my recollection, the 9/16/08 Date Book HotSync failure shown above roughly coincided with the onset of similar failures when I have attempted to HotSync the same Treo with the Windows XP Pro box I use at work.  I don't know whether the HotSync failure on the Windows Vista Box I have at home preceded the failure on the XP box I use at work or vice versa, but I have to wonder if a HotSync failure for an App on one box can trigger similar failures for the same App when one attempts to HotSync it on other boxes.   I've trolled this help forum and haven't found any leads.  I really need to get my calendars at work and home back on the same page, so I would greatly appreciate suggestions. jfzaehringer

There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.

  • Can I hotsync more than one user calendar on my Centro?

I have a Macbook and just acquired a Centro (ATT). I have about 3 users in my Palm Desktop program and would like to hotsync them all to my Centro. Possible? How? and if so, how do I switch between them to view them?
    TIA,

All Palm devices can only syncronize on one username.
    if you have 3 username A, B and C.
if your centro is syncronizing on B username, just import the data from A username to B username and also do the same with the C username.
Warning: If you do that suggestion, you might be getting duplicates on your existing username because you might have some data on your other username that is already existing on you current username.
you have to manually delete duplicates.

Are you talking about the hotsync on your device you see these two that are no longer valid?
If so then launch the hotsync application, then tap at the top left hand corner so you get a drop down menu, under that menu you will see Connection Setup highlight the ones you want to get rid of and select delete.

  • Can ANYBODY help me hotsync using OS 10.4.5?

I recently upgraded my Mac OS from 10.4.4 to 10.4.5, and now I cannot
hotsync with my Palm Tungsten E. I uninstalled and reinstalled the
latest Palm Desktop software, and then I reinstalled the Microsoft
Entourage Conduit. However, when I hotsync, I get an errror message in
    the HotSync log telling me:
"Before you can synchronize with the applications on this handheld
device, you must enable synchronization in the Entourage Conduit
Settings dialog box. For the latest information on compatibility issues
and solutions, visit the Office 2004 Web Site synchronization failed"
This is odd, because synchronization is "enabled" in the Entourage
    Conduit Settings dialog box.
Surely somebody else must have this problem as well? Can anybody offer any advice? I haven't been able to hotsync in two weeks. Posting to the Palm and Microsoft forums was no help.
    Thanks,
    Chuck

You are aware that permissions repairs & disk repairs are not the same thing, right? The "Repair Disk" step in Disk Utility attempts to repair file system problems, not the permissions of files in the file system. Disk Warrior is also a disk (file system) repair utility, one that uses a different & more powerful method (rebuilding the file system directory from scratch) than Disk Utility does to fix the file system.
If neither utility can repair your file system, you must (as the instructions in the first few lines of Disk Utility's First Aid tab tell you) back up & erase the disk volume. This will recreate a fresh file system that should be free of problems & allow you to install the OS, restore your user files from backups, & apply any updates to create a trouble free system.
If this fails, the most likely cause is even more severe problems with your hard drive than erasing a volume can solve. The next step would be to reformat it, & if that fails to replace the drive.
Before you consider anything as drastic as erasing anything, make sure your problem is not just with permissions but with the disk -- IOW, with the file system.

  • Is it possible to have two versions of HotSync in the same PC?

I had an old and reliable Zire 31 and I got from a friend a couple of months back a TX. I was synching the TX in my office because I had my old one synching at home. Now my wife wants to use the old Zire and I'll like to synch my home stuff too. I know both versions of the HotSync sofwtare are different (6.2 for the TX and 4.1 for the Zire). Is there a way I can keep both in my PC at home without having to uninstall one of them. I think (haven't try) that installing 6.2 wipes out 4.2
    Post relates to: Palm TX

It's not advisable (for your own convenience) but if you dont share the same login account on the PC, your installations on each PC account should remain hermetic from each other. Otherwise I suggest you go to PD 6.2 for both.

  • Centro HotSync with Palm V6.2.2 Locks up at DATE BOOK - no calendar records on Palm Desk Top

First let me say that I hate the new version 6.2.2 Palm Desktop and the ongoing problems I have doing a hotsync.  Today, I had to restart my computer as I "uninstalled" a non related program from my computer.  When I restarted my computer and opened my Palm Desktop, all the calendar data was gone.  Since my Centro was recently hotsync'd, I hooked it up and tried to perform a sync.  The device and the desktop "locked up" at the DATE BOOK function.  I found another Forum post where a tech support individual said to "download Pimlico DbFixit Trial version" which I did and ran.  It indicated a problem as: Calendar DB-PDat: Both Description and Note are blank - usually a corrupted record.  Rec=1508 Date= 1/11/09.  I also went into the Palm Desktop and in the "Applications" section found "DATE BOOK" and UN CHECKED it.  Running a hotsync again allowed me to update everything EXCEPT the calendar.
HOW DO I FIX THIS AND GET THE CALENDAR BACK ON MY DESK TOP?
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Find the calendar events that Dbfixit found and delete them. Or buy the paid version and it should repair them. Also try hitting the menu button while in Dbfixit (bottom right hand button) Then clicking on Delete/remove all Calendar blobs.

  • Replaced 680 with T5 & can't hotsync

There must be an article about this, but I can't find it.  I used to have a Palm M515 then got a Treo 680. I lost it so I now have a Tungsten T5.  I used the CD that came with the Tungsten, and kept the same user name. Now I cannot get the calendar and contacts to hotsync from my desktop to my new T5.  I am scared to lose all the information on my desktop if I experiment too much.  I also have two desktop calendars, one is blank and the correct one (full of appointments).  I recall having a similar problem when I upgraded from my M515 to the Treo 680.  I wish I kept the notes from the tech support person!  There does not seem to be a live chat anymore for these situations. I am using Windows Vista and have whatever the correct desktop is for it.  Thanks in advance for any help.  I am at the end of my rope.
    Post relates to: Tungsten T5

Just a follow-up note to say that I found the Palm support number and called. Even though the Tungsten T5 is old enough that I had to pay $25 for telephone support, it was well worth it. The technicians straightened out the install on both my home and work computers and I have 15 days to call again if I have further trouble. There were several problems and it would have taken me forever to untangle them.

  • USB Hotsync needs 32-bit hardware or software? or both?

I made the mistake of buying a new computer without knowing I needed 32-bit to do a USB Hotsync.  My new computer is 64-bit hardware. However, I got a 3-year service package from HP and they've offered to send me a 32-bit Windows XP OS installation disk if I want it. They said it will work, you can install a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit computer.
Their question is, and my question for you is, do I need a 32-bit HARDWARE to do the USB sync, or will the 32-bit OPERATING SYSTEM (software) on a 64-bit computer do the trick? Does anyone know? Palm wouldn't tell me ("unsupported device"), and I can't find it anywhere.
I want to avoid doing the bluetooth thing if possible, since reading that people have problems syncing docs-to-go with bluetooth and I don't want to have to buy a bluetooth device and have to try to figure out which one will work with my particular set up. I'm pretty addicted to docs-to-go.
BTW I have a Zire 72 that I can't live without (poor memory/organizational skills) and my new computer is an HP EliteBook 8440p currently running 64-bit Windows 7.
I'd rather avoid installing a new OS (and reinstalling everything else) if it's not going to help.
Thanks to anyone who has an idea, suggestion, or experience to share.

  • Vista 64-bit and Treo 600 Hotsync solution that works!

I too searched many, many forums and sites for a solution to this problem. And I have found it.
I have an HP dv9260 laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and Office Pro 2007, which I bought in June this year. And I have been unable to sync my Treo 600 to it - until now. (I had even resorted to syncing to my older Toshiba Tablet PC (WinXP Pro, Office Pro 2003) via standard USB sync cable, connecting the Tablet to the new HP with a Belkin Easy Transfer cable, exporting my updated Contacts, Calendar, and InfoSafe records to .vcf, .ics, and .txt files, then transferring between the HP and Tablet, and then importing them into the appropriate app - Whew! man what a pain.
Now I have found a far more elegant and simple method. I found an Infrared USB 2.0 adaptor (dongle) at the Chunwai_1996 store on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-USB-2-0-IRDA-ADAPER-4Mbps-SUPPORT-VISTA_W0QQitemZ110164766509QQcmdZViewItem) for $8.33 USD + $5.67 USD S&H (total $14.00 even) (I believe that the price is now $12.49 USD + $5.67 S&H.) , which said it supported and supplied drivers for 64-bit Vista. It took a little over two weeks to receive the device from Hong Kong (received yesterday, 08-31-2007).
I checked the mini CD that shipped with it but found no Vista drivers. So I just plugged it into a USB port on the laptop. Vista immediately recognized the dongle and installed generic Vista 64-bit drivers from Microsoft. I tested the unit by placing the Treo near it. The unit recognized the Treo as a legitimate device! Next, I followed the directions I found in another thread that had been successful with USB 2.0, Vista 32-bit drivers, and the Treo 600, with one slight modification. Here is a repost from the Vista-Help.ca blog by Kerry Brown, verbatim except for a couple of modifications and few additional steps.

Palm Treo 600 with Vista and Office 2007
I've had a lot of people ask about how I got my Treo 600 phone to sync with Outlook 2007 in Vista so I thought I'd write up the procedure. Hopefully Palm will have new Vista compatible software soon but in the meantime here's how I got it working on two computers so far. First you have to use Vista x86. I couldn't get it to work with Vista x64. If you've already tried to get it working then you have to clean up all the leftover stuff before continuing.
    1. Uninstall Palm Desktop
    2. Insert the CD that came with the Treo but don't let it autorun.
    3. Navigate to the correct language folder on the Treo CD and right click on setup.exe
    4. Set the compatibilty for XP SP2 and Run as administrator.
    5. Run setup.exe
    6. During the install the initial sync may fail. Just tell the installation to continue.
    7. If you want to sync with Outlook make sure you pick this option during the install
    8. Once it's finished close the Hotsync System Tray application.
    9. In Windows Explorer go to the Palmone folder in Program Files.
    10. Right click hotsync.exe and set it to run in administrator mode with XP SP2 compatibility.
    11. Do the the same for palm.exe.
    12. Start the Palm Desktop and change the Hotsync settings to manual start.
-and- 12a. ******* Check the Infrared option to make it active and available *******
    13. Exit Palm Desktop and reboot.
You should now be able to sync the Treo 600 with Outlook 2007 or Palm Desktop. You will have to manually start the Hotsync application and deal with a uac prompt because it is set to run in administrator mode. The sync only works when Outlook is not running. You also have to sync twice. The first time you will get errors about the default folders for Outlook. Ignore the errors and press the sync button again. If it still doesn't work reboot and try it again. Good luck. Let me know if you find an easier procedure.
    =====================================================
After rebooting the laptop, I performed the following additional steps:
    A. Manually started the Hotsync app (you can put it in the Startup folder to auto load at Startup).
    B. Set the Custom options to "Desktop overrides Handheld" for Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes - this may help avoid duplicates from the first Hotsync. Also, this is just a temporary override from the default setting "Synchronize the files" for each selection.
    C. Selected Hotsync on the Treo and enabled the Infrared option.
    D. Pressed the Hotsync 'button' on the Treo and placed it pointing at the Infrared dongle.
The Hotsync ran to completion without errors! Though it did take a good deal longer since it only runs at 115.2 kbps vs. the 480 Mbps of USB 2.0, I am happy.
Hope this helps others with Vista 64-bit systems and Palm OS handhelds.
    Cheers.

A TX can easily sync with Vista 64bit via Wifi if you have the computer as part of your Home Network.
Enter the IP address of the computer into Hotsync on the TX and it should work.

  • !!!SOLUTION !!! Hotsync TE2 with windows 7 (64bit) via blue tooth SOLUTION !!!

I recently struggled with syncing my TE2 with the palm desktop application in windows 7 as many of you have too.
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, Palm desktop 4.1.4 and a blue tooth dongle.
The solution I found for my problem works like this:
Find a phone that has blue tooth and add it as device on your computer.
    I used a simple Nokia 2630.
The add-proces went well and it automaticly had two COM-ports assigned that it uses for syncing or backup etc.
    I shut down the phone.
Started the hotsync manager from Palm.
Klicked away error messages as that the com-port is in use by another device.
Klicked right in the tray icon for hotsync.
    Select setup.
    Select local.
Then get a message that the port is not available.
After that I can choose a port that IS availlable.
That is one of the ports that was assigned to my Nokia phone.
I select one of these ports and close the setup screen.
I have setup a blue tooth hotsync connection on my TE2.
Hereafter I can sync my TE2 with the Palm desktop 4.1.4 without a problem.
Just don't use the phone and hotsync at the same time.
The only messagfes I got are from docstogo that powerpoint does not work anymore, but you can ignore that message.
After one hotsync these messages don't appear anymore.
I don't start the hotsync program at startup, but start it manually.
I start it in compatibilitymode for Windows XP (Servicepack 3).
Right-klick on desktop icon choose compatilbility, check first box and from the dropdownlist choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
    Until now  . . . . . . no problems.
I hope somebody can use this too.
P.S. When you start the hotsync prog it can last a little while before it appears in your taskbar.
    GOOD LUCK !!!!!
    Greetings,
    Jacques

When you connect your device to your computer do not perform a hotsync. Instead open your device manager, you should be able to locate that in your Control Panel.
Once inside your device manager locate your Palm device. It should be located under Universal Serial Bus Controllers or Network Adaptors. Once you find it right click it and go to "Uninstall." As soon as you click uninstall unplug the device from the computer.
Plug it back in and it should come up with Found new hardware and hopefully you will be able to sync fine after that.
Let me know if that works out for you.
