1) Are the standard (i.e. App store, phone booth, iPhoto, iCal, etc) automatically reinstalled?
2) How is iTunes handled? iMovie?
3) How is Mail handled? Will it automatically reinstall my Contacts, Mail folders with all of my saved emails?
4) How are 3rd party Apps handled that are located in the Application folder? in a separately created foldeer?
5) How is Time Machine handled? with all of its past backups?

If you install over Snow Leopard, you'll get new default Apple apps.
iLife, iWork, and 3rd-party apps wont be disturbed (although PPC apps will no longer work).
Mail will be updated, your stuff will be covered..
Time Machine just continues on.
By all means, back up first, just in case something goes wrong.

When submitting, there are a number of quite different possibilities. I'll discuss the file attachments that can be attached as comments since we were discussing them in a different thread.
You can set up a submit form action to include the entire document (PDF) or just the form data and comments (annotations). In order to include the file attachments, you need to use either FDF or XFDF. You'd then have to be able to have some means to extract the attachments from the data files.
If submitting as "HTML", there's a different method that you have use that conforms to RFC 1867, which is nice because it allows you to take advantage of code that used to process HTML forms. It's a more complicated setup on the form since the form needs a text field for each file that will be uploaded.
Once the server gets the data it can do whatever it wants with it. This is a big subject and really beyond the scope of these forums. Probably the simplest method is to store the files securely on the server.

When an employee leaves a business and the company has purchased the equipment, the company should have the rights to reissue the equipment and Apple should provide an alternative to unlock the equipment from the employee's personal APPLE account and password so the company (that purchased the equipment) can reissue the line and equipment to another employee.

If you can prove ownership to Apple, they may be able to help you.
The best way of handing things would be strong policies requiring that the equipment be turned in in a usable state. i.e. not activation locked. Failing this, the employee should be charged the cost of the replacement phone. Held from their final paycheck if required.

Yes. You can set the payment method to "None" once you log into iTunes on your PC/Mac. I have it set up this way.

that's incorrect. It is not periodic. Anytime the server comes up it uses
          multicast to advertise its availability as well as the services it
          provides. When all the announcements are through you can get Cluster-aware
          stubs from that server as well.

Usually some update from another app is blocking any subsequent patches. The general cure is to run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, let the application manager reinstall and then let it try to update each application at the same time to prevent those version conflicts...

Incorrect Apple ID in App Store / How to do a fresh Lion install

I'm trying to redownload the OSX Lion Install App. I held the Option key when clicking purchases and instead of saying "Installed", it now says "Download". However, even though I'm signed into the App Store with my personal Apple ID, it asks me to authenticate but defaults to another apple ID of a person I don't know.

In reality, I'm simply trying to wipe the hard drive clean as I sold this macbook air on ebay and want to deliver it as a fresh install. But when I use the reocovery partition to reinstall Lion, it forces me to connect to the internet and automatically imports all of my user data, which defeats the point!

I have an old .mac iTunes account, it cannot be deleted, I use my new mobileme/iCloud account.
Both passwords are the same so it's easy to switch if any older Apps etc.. need updating..

I have noticed a strange thing with ASCII 0 values. in the process of database replication MSSQL to Oracle some columns in the source DB (MSSQL) have some of the values as ascii 0.
when i load this data with sqlldr in oracle and query the table this columns are not considered as null.
ex:
table_name : PriceItems
Column_name : Description
if i query the table with select count() from PriceItems where Description is null* the result is 0
if i query the table with select count() from PriceItems where Description = chr(0)* the result is 301 (actual rows)
how can we handle this kind of situations?
is this a bug of Oracle?

Ascii character zero indicates a NULL character. Not a null string.
A null string is a string without a value - i.e. a string that has no ASCII (or EBCDIC or Unicode) characters. Oracle does not discriminate between Ascii characters.
Character zero is used, on Windows for example, as string terminator. An empty string can thus only contain a zero terminator. And thus the confusion. An empty string is not the same as a null string in this case - but a zero string length implies the string is empty, does not contain characters (despite containing a char zero), and is therefore null.
The issue is inconsistencies in implementation and terminology. NULL itself is a very abused concept in software engineering.

How are you handling keyword sets?

After spending a little time keywording tonight, I like both Stamping and the "Assign this keyword to selected photo" options. Both are faster and easier than I anticipated. :-)
The one speed bump has been keyword set creation. It appears to limit each set to nine keywords. Is that right? If so, I guess you could divide long sets into several nine-word subsets. But if you want them in alphabetical order, what happens when you add a new keyword to the set? Wouldn't you need to shuffle everything that follows?
My temporary solution has been to create sets in the left Keyword Tags panel using "child of" nesting. This keeps that panel -- which otherwise sorts alphabetically without regard to category -- better organized and shorter. So far, I am keywording entirely from that side.
Does this make sense? If you need long sets or deep nesting in your sets, how are you approaching keywording? BTW, the more I use it, the better I like LR.

Alexander, what I'm asking about is how people handle long sets. If a keyword does not fall into the natural short-list category described by Mike, that doesn't mean you only use it "occasionally."
Suppose you regularly photograph species -- flowers, birds, animals -- or football teams with 85 players on a side. You don't want to type every name or drag and drop, do you? As Steve Jobs said of using a stylus: Yuck. Or Ick. Or Blech. Or whatever he said. :-)
The best solution I've found is to nest the lists in the left panel to shorten the panel, and then select images, twirl down the nested list to the desired keyword, and cmd-click to "Assign this keyword to selected photos." But that adds a step to the (IMHO) faster, easier system in Bridge.
Just asking if others have found a quicker way.

How to delete un-needed Lion install files

To recover some extra disk space I am wondering if there are any temporary install files that I can now safely remove. I did a google search and wasn't able to find anything. Maybe the Lion install software already cleaned up as part of the process?

I used Monolingual and deleted unwanted Languages, Architectures & Input methods and free up 1.3 - 1.7GB.
The I deleted unwanted print drivers and got back about 600MB

Servers where patches will not install automatically or manually, Live updates are broken and when checking installed updates shows "NO UPDATES ARE INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER" SFC \SCANNOW will not run

Hello, (Bit of a long one but please read)
We have 3 servers in same physical location and server OU etc that are exhibiting the exact same behaviors (we have server servers in this location that are not), as above theyt are all W2008 R2 SP1 and all built from the same standard
image we use on hundreds of other computers, they have also been in production for different amounts of time and we started to see this behavior at different times with them: (Its odd they are all in the same site where there are also several other servers
that are not effected, there must be a link ? )
These servers are all missing several patches when checking our internal tool that reports from IBM endpoint management that we use to deliver patches (they are not all missing the exact same patches some ore or less than other), although
SCCM (we used SCCM to deliver patches until around 6 months ago) and IBM EM are both running (some ptches hark back to the SCCM Delievry days) they are not patching and when attempting to patch manually by downloading the exact patch coresponding to the fixlet
ID and the KB , the stanbdalone installer starts and after some time you receive an error message “The update is not applicable to yoru computer”. Windows update returns error 80070006 for all of the servers.
it is worth noting that other applications and products also using the .MSU extension will insatll so it is not a problem with the installer service.
The above led me to think a corrupt patch may have stopped the sequence of patching so I then looked in “Programs and Features” => “Installed updates” and this is blank for all of them returening the message:
“NO UPDATES ARE INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER”. (this I believe is a part of the fundamental issues and resolving this may resolve the patching)
Another issue is that if you run “SFC /SCANNOW” It starts the scan and then returns: “Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation” (Also in safe mode and both from an elevated CMD and WMI is started as a service)
The all three are probably related so I think fixing the “SFC and NO UPDATES SHOWN” issues will resolve the first.
The things I have tried so far are:
Running : wmic qfe list full /format:htable > c:\updates.htm Should produce a list of updates but instead returns : No Instance(s) Available (this is not hopeful)
Fix: Ran the “SYSTEM UPDATE REDINESS TOOL” from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
Result : Update Ran successfully but NO CHANGE
Fix: Ran the automated and manual fix “RESET WINDOWS UPDATE COMPONENTS” here :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en then undated windows update agent.
Result : All ran successfully and NO CHANGE
Fix: Ran MBSA
Result : Runs successfully and then stays at “Done downloading security update information” (Log gives no obvious information)
Fix: Renamed the software distribution folder/restarted services (Various variations of this fix online, tried a few)
Result: Runs as described in article with new Software distribution folder being created,
NO CHANGE
Fix: Create/Correct the reg key for windows trusted installer located here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Version (several articles relating to this and the above issues)
Result: the existing key was correct as should be from internal system information gathered , required in article.
Fix: Ran the “Windows update trouble-shooter”

Result: It detected and fixed error’s but still no change.
The WMI Repository checks out on them all for both of the methods I know to verify “Get-wmiobject –list |measure” and ensure count is over 900 and also “C:\>winmgmt /verifyrepository” and the repository came back as “WMI Repository is consistent”. I guess
this is not hard evidence the WMI is OK, but these are the only methods I know.
I have also tried removing the server from its OU , running a GP Update and then rebooting and testing but to no avail (Bit of a longshot but tried to link the distinction between the three servers and the OU GP is one of them)
I have tried a few other articles registering .Dll’s etc , but I did not take a note of links as I was at the start of this and didn’t expect it to go so long so please reply with anything you see not above im happy to try again.
I have thought about removing SP1 and reinstalling it but this will require a major downtime and only possible if the backup files of SP1 have not been removed.
Any help is apreciated !

IRecruitment: how are postings handled in an multilingual environment

We use the e-business-suite in two languages: German and English.
In iRecruitment we have got the following problem:
For some vacancies, when I update a vacancy then the english posting and also the german posting is updated in the same way.
For other vacancies, when I update a vacancy in the english html-page then just the english posting is updated but not the german one.
What is the logic behind this behavior?

For IRC445 and IRC450 it works fine. What I see is that the source language is US for both languages.
 
All other IRCs do not work as expected. What I see is that the source language is different.
 
What is the reason for that? How does the software determine the soruce language? Does it depend on default job postings?

Flash is single threaded correct. Events work just like any
other application... using an Observer Design Pattern, you can
"Dispatch" events, and objects that are registered to "listen" to
that object will hear the dispatched event. So if you use an object
that is based off of InteractiveObject (such as a Sprite) - it can
dispatchEvent(someScope.Const, functionRedirect); SomeScope stands
for where and what kind of event is it. For instance a if you
wanted to listen to a Mouse Event, you would import MouseEvent and
do sprite.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, onSpriteRollOver);
then bulid a function onSpriteRollOver.
I advise setting up a global app event dispatcher object so
their is a location that all objects can dispatch to and listen to

How Are Application Clients Run By OC4J?

Since no one seems to have an answer to my post concerning utilizing java.util.Timer and java.util.TimerTask in application clients started automatically by OC4J, I will generalize my question.
If I start the client myself, I would type the following at the command line:
java -jar myClient.jar myArgument
This is fairly obvious. My question is this: how exactly does OC4J automatically start the client assuming a client-module with auto-start="true" in orion-application.xml? I would like as much technical minutiae (e.g. reflection, wrappers involved, etc.)as you can provide since I need to know the gory details if I am to attempt to solve my challenging problem.

When auto-start="true," we are required to provide the a value for the user attribute of client-module. Of course, that is not required when I run the client manually. Is there a user that is understood when I run the client manually? There is a user specified in the jndi.properties in the client jar file, but I am not sure if that refers to the same thing. (I thought that was more to authenticate the client to the EJB container, whereas I imagine the user attribute is for authenticating the user to the client) I am not sure how the users are related if at all, so I would appreciate any insight. How to do a new lion install on mac mini

I bought a used mac mini with Lion 10.7.2 on it.
I would like to a complete re-install to mack sure there is nothing left from the privious owner.

My information is from the Apple SLA's (additionally, there have been other posts regarding the same problem). It may be unfair, but that is what Apple's rules are. They are very specific regarding the sale/transfer of a Mac with Lion on it. Anyone buying or selling a used Mac needs to be aware of these rules.
If he had purchased a Mac with 10.6 and the disks, it would be easy: a) the software license allows the transfer of the OS and b) he could simply use the disk to erase and reinstall.

Using the recovery partition automatically directs the computer to the app store where the machine ID is on record and you have to enter your Apple ID which - in this scenario - won't match. I've read some posts here already where people have tried to do this and it did not work; Software Update did not work either (presumably because the machine and Apple ID's were not "on record"). My take is that it is Apple's new policy to limit software piracy (but that is just my humble opinion): you buy a cheap downloadable software license and it "expires" when you get rid of the machine, so the new owner has to buy another cheap license.
