How best to send images by email, esp. to Windoze machines?

I'm having trouble getting mails to people with just a couple of jpegs, total about 1MB. I use Panther, and Mail 1.3.11. I do check "send Windows-friendly attachments". One recipient is an AOL user, dial-up.
Another complains that my mails were zipped, and he doesn't have the software to un-zip! This one has good cable modem service.
Does it matter if I send the images within a folder? Or should I send them without the enclosing folder?

Sending attachments is pretty tricky, especially to AOL users. I believe that AOL does not allow multiple attachments on a single email. Otherwise, AOL will compress the files together into a single file as it passes through their email server.
This may and probably does happen on other email servers as well.
Try sending a single image and see if they receive it ok.
Also, is there any text included with the emails (comments, signatures, etc)?

By sharing playlists you mean sending the list of song titles along with the songs themselves you can't. That would violate Apple's contracts with the studios regarding sharing music, videos, books, etc. Which is strictly forbidden. With the single exception that I am aware of which is Home Sharing.
If you just want to share the list of song titles you could take a screen shot and email that. Hold down the home button and press and release the power button. The image is then stored in your camera roll.

If you are using Apple Mail, it does not support read receipts. Even if it did, most people will ignore such requests, so at best, it'd be a hit and miss situation.

How the email message looks in Mail is fairly irrelevant to how it will look to the recipient. An image attached to an email message is an attachment regardless of how the client displays it. Some will display it inline, others as an icon in a list of attached files. Regardless, it is an attachment and should be capable of being opened, saved to another location, etc.
Unfortunately, some Windows email clients (*cough* Outlook *cough*) are absolutely crippled when it comes to email standards, and make it difficult for recipients to view or save some attached images. You can better ensure success with Outlook by using Windows-friendly attachments and only sending plain text email, rather than HTML email. However, Outlook is still Outlook, and it does not play well with others.
If you must communicate with people who use Outlook try uploading your photos to an album on Picasa, Flikr, Shutterfly, etc, and then send people a link instead. Or convince them to use a real email client, like Thunderbird.

You can edit or delete your rescue email address at My Apple ID. To edit your rescue email address:
Navigate to My Apple ID using your web browser.
Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.

You can set up email groups in Contacts. The articles says Address Book (Contacts old name), but it still works.

I agree with everyone else here. For Blackberry NOT to allow text email just seems ludicrous. It is the kind of thing Apple would do to their hypnotized fans. Surely it isn't up to Blackberry to dictate how people send and receive email. There job is to enable people to work in the way that they want to work, which for many people means TEXT only emails. Like others I have run into problems using systems that expect text only emails (e.g. Toodledo) and just figured I would switch the Z10 to text mode. Shocked when I found out I couldn't. I really like my Z10, but can't help but feel in some ways Blackberry have made massive backwards strides, e.g. Blackberry Protect, Blackberry Connect (is that the thing that connects it with the playbook - I can't remember as I stopped using it when I realized all the features had vanished), etc. Come on Blackberry, we want killer features in the Z10 and not features killed :-)

The thing to remember is that iOS email attachments start with the document itself, not from the Mail app.
1. Select the thing you want to send in an app that handles it, (for example a Photo might be sent from Photos, a PDF from GoodReader etc.)
2. Then tap the "share" button (which I see others have kindly posted screenshots for) and create an email containing that attachment.

Until recently I used Adobe Elements 3 and sent Photomail and E mail attachments with no problems. Recently I installed Adobe Elements 8 and since then have had continual problems sending images via email. I've read all the material, watched the tutorials and followed the instructions related to the subject but the problem continues. I complete the prescribed steps and hit send (to recipeints with a copy to myself) and the messages dissapear but do not transmit. I have even reduced the size of my images and have sent as few as two images compared to the seven or eight I could successfully send with the Elements 3 program, I have used the address book and have also tried typing in the email addresses but nothing seems to work. Have others experienced this problem? I would appreciate any comments you may have to help me rectify this situation along with the specific steps required to successfully complete this task.

Hi Gordon,
It is not a good idea to post live email addresses in replies as this is a public forum and somebody might harvest the addresses for scamming.
For clarification, I will go through the preferences that you should have set up.
Go to Edit -> Preferences - Email
Click on the New button
Give it a Profile Name like MyGmail, select Gmail from the drop down list of service providers and then click on OK
Enter your Email address - this is the account to send the photos from not who you are sending them to. The address should be in the format [email protected]
Enter your name
Enter the password for the email account you gave in 4 above
Click on Validate - It should come back and say credentials validated successfully - if not check your settings.
Click on OK and close the preferences.
Now try sending a photo.
