I don't know how to close a tab without the x in the upper corner. The support page stated I should right click on the tab for the close button but it is not highlighted in my drop down menu.

That's correct. Because how would you turn it back on again if the screen was off and your power button was on the screen?
Yo need to fix the button, or try letting the iPhone die out completely, then connect it to power and after it's charged for a while, see what happens when you press the Home button.

of course notepad.exe is closed again as soon as the operating system has completed the process of loading its content into memory...
And no "event" is fired when that happens, except maybe internal to the process that loaded the application to indicate that it's been loaded successfully and can now be executed.
But there's no way your Java process is ever going to receive that notification.
