How can I combine two iTunes accounts?

I had an iTunes account at home then created another at work. How can I combine the two?
When I received an iPad2 at work, I was required to have/initiate an account during the setup process. I couldn't remember what email address my personal iTunes account was under, so I set up another and began using it to load required and desired apps on my iPad. Openning my windows laptop for the first time in months, I now see that my personal iTunes account was under a really old email address (which is why I couldn't recall it at work).
The (old) personal account has many podcasts and personal music, yet the new iPad account is linked to my work apps. Is it possible to merge the two?

I have the same issue, but it seems that Apple will not let you merge itunes accounts. Refer to this FAQ, specifically the text below:
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

Now I have to add that this is rather disappointing as I have some purchases on my old itunes account which I would like to merge into my current iTunes account (which was created due to an oversight). The oversight was, I thought my original iTunes was converted to @me.com one when I signed up for the 90 day trial to use mobileme services.

An account is a user name and password.
Sign into whichever account you want to use for purchasing.
Authorize the computer for both account to listen to the content.

I thought if I updated that information to a new .mac/.me account it would take my purchases with it, but alas, that didn't happen. I just wound up creating a new account and purchased a few things on that before I realized I had to sign out of one account to sing into the other to update. Anyone with any ideas on how to consolidate my accounts and therefor my purchases in to a single one, like the new .iCloud account extension, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Sorry - you can't. You can keep the music from each iTunes account in the same library, but the purchased items will always be "owned" by the iTunes ID under which they are purchased.
My husband and I both purchase music and other stuff on his Mac in iTunes under our own iTunes IDs. Both IDs are authorized to the Mac, and everything is housed in one iTunes library. I can download his music, and he can download mine.
However, if, say, some of the music was removed from the library and we wanted to get it back in there, we would each individually have to go to our Purchased list to download the items that we purchased in order to get them all back into the library.

I have a late model iMac and am running Lion. I have an account for myself with admin privileges. I also have an iTunes account and a music and video library in iTunes. I sync my iPod and iPhone to the iTunes account regularly.
I recently added my spouse as a "Standard" user. She has an iTunes account, an iPhone and an iPad. How do I get her iTunes configured to download her music and apps to sync with her devices without destroying my own music and apps in the process? We keep getting a warning that all my stuff will be deleted without the possibility of reinstatement for 90 days! What is up?

I agree with Chris CA that this is the way I would *expect* iTunes to behave.
When I look at iTunes from my account (my music is in ~/Music/iTunes/ and not available to my spouse's account), I can see in my music library all my rips and my purchases, just as I would expect. I can use Store>View My Account (<myAppleID>) and all is as expected. Home sharing is NOT on.
Doing the same from the other account is not much different, actually. Nothing in the library yet, of course. Store>View My Account (<herAppleID>) also works. I CAN authorize my computer to play her music. I CAN view her iTunes purchases. When I attempt to download the purchases to HER library, though, I get the following dialog box:
Now I interpret this to mean that this computer (mine) will not download from a different AppleID (also mine) for 90 days. Is that [interpretation] correct?

I currently live in a country but I've grown up in another country. When I set up my iTunes account I provided the details of the country where I live; however it happens that songs or magazines I would like to buy are only available in the iTunes store of the country where I grown up.
Can anybody help me in setting up two accounts in the two different stores in a way that all purchases are merged and I can see both on my iPhone / iPad?
I have credit cards for both countries.

How can I combine two iTunes media folders without losing media?

I have two media folders. One on an external drive that I used on an old PC before migrating to a new one, and my internal HDD on the new PC. My internal drive became nearly full so I had to start using my external drive and iTunes media folder again. So, right now iTunes looks to my internal drive for most of the media and my external drive for some of it. Now, I need to move all the media files back to the external drive and, hopefully, in one place. The primary challenge is that I don't know how to move the media files (and metadata) efficiently. I just don't know which folders have been affected and so a standard copy -> paste won't work because the PC will try to overwrite the folders and I have no idea which ones can be overwritten and which can't. Ugh...does this make sense? Thank you!!!

You can indeed switch between two different iTunes libraries, and this article outlines how:
iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
If you're using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu, choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
If you're using a Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.
