How can I connect my 24" cinema display to a mac book pro retina HDMI output?

Hi folks,
I would like to have a macbook pro retina running three external displays (this is technically feasable):
2 times a 27" Cinema displays through thunderbold ones (connecting them to the Thunderbold output, daysy chaining them)
1 time a 24" Cinema display through mini display port (connecting it to the HDMI output as the resolution matches on both ends 1920 x 1200)
Any idea which adaptor I would need as most of them are only working one way (the wrong way!..)?
Thanks for you numerous inputs ;-)

  • Can I connect a Flat Diamondtron Display to a Mac Book Pro

    Hi,
My laptop screen is too low for me and is causing neck pain. I'd like to connect up a screen at a higher level. I own a 17" Studio Display Natural Flat Diamondtron. Will it connect to the Mac Book Pro (bought in 2007) 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo? If so, what cable(s) do I need and where would I get them, please
    Many thanks,
    Fiona.

    Hi Fiona!
Can you look on the back of the Studio display and find the Apple model number. It should be some like "M7649." Please post it--that can help people come up with more targeted solutions.
However, I believe your monitor uses the obsolete Apple Display Connector (ADC) technology that makes it expensive to connect to a modern Mac. The problem is that, in addition to the video signal, the ADC monitor must get power and USB through the cable. Your MBP's DVI port cannot provide power, just video.
The proper adaptor to make your monitor work on an MBP includes a power supply but is discontinued by Apple and was expensive even when new (US$100). It looked like this:
    !http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRElYslCWkweQmelfAP-uFA7sDWHtLEXO02QwlC WmUXfQJILu8&t=1&usg=__pxb-xu6qbc3P852Fa4HK24nwDMw=!
When you find them, they can be twice as much on the used market.
The less expensive adaptors (US$20-40) are for the "other way," connecting a modern monitor to an older Mac. They generally look like this:
    !data:image/jpg;base64,/9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQAAAQABAAD/2wCEAAkGBhAQEBQSDxAWFREWGBAWE hUSERARGxISFRAVFRQWGBIdGyYgFxksGRQSKy8gIzM1LC44FR4yNzA2OCYtOCwBCQoKDgwOFw8OGjUcH CQpKS4sKjU1KSwpKSwpKSksKS8tLCwsLCkpLCwsLCwpKSkpLCwsKSwsLCkpKSkpKSkpKf/AABEIAGgAa AMBIgACEQEDEQH/xAAbAAEAAgIDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABQYBAwIEB//EADsQAAIBAgMFBAYGCwAAAAAAA AABAgMRBRIhBDFBUYEGEyJxBxQyYZHBQ0RygtPwFyMzQlSSoaKywtH/xAAXAQEBAQEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAgED/8QAHxEBAQACAgMAAwAAAAAAAAAAAAECEQMSMUFRBBMh/9oADAMBAAIRAxEAPwD3EAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAXAAAAAAAAAAAAAcXNIDka61dQTb4a2Scn8FqzFSbfs/lGMi5eZNvxukPPHpT/ZJ Jc2szf3TZTrbQE392MfkSNDZ4RcmopNu7fM3po5zG3zVbk8RDzqbSv3Zf2sxTxucXapG/RxfwJo11qEJq0op+fyZvS+qb nuOOybbCqrxfmno15o3kHHCKkKycJ2prW6s39l/8ASaUuZWNt8ps+OQMZjNy2AAAw2ddyu7nHE68oU3K KTd46N5VZySevAr9LtU5RbjSz6pJQzNtPNru0Xhe848nLjjdVeONqxi5Wn2rqJX9Un1MS7WVl9TqdHF/ M5fuwV0qzJnKjvl0/xRU9o7ZSp01OdLK3OUMkmsycY5nfW3s248Ut5ZMI2l1Kam7eLK9N3so6cfJjllq Jyxsm3arTcYtpXaTaXOyIvYcW0iqmtVpOeVZUm9bavhu6EuyiYhtvqyq1MrkqVtE1eUnVjTSTbtvktWV yXWjGbXNbYuRn1tcis0MaqOVRSdOEYOMXKctM8qcZ5brS6UlfU7EcUi/rVDpKL/3MnLvw24aTi2tLctD XLE4xaTTV+O9EM8Wh/F7P/ND8Q6U8aVSpClFqop95edOcXGORQtZq928+7S1ver5eTR1XNMHTwerKVJZ tWm435pbmDtLtzbMQoOdOUVva04Xad7X6EFseEVKal+rlmk23O9KHF2WWHnwWpZgc8+LHO7qplYgJYbV 4Z+P0suSXLzMx2CqndqT3/SX3+5tLgv689Z4HKfi4S7V3qqbZgFWo7qDhJSzxnnpSaeWMWrSTWqhFX37 9xP4Vs8oUlGaSeuid+OmvlY7gOuHFjhdxNyt/jBXsa7OSqZ+7SlGdnKEm4+JSUk1L7ST6FiBeWMymqyX Txztr6LcSxDaVXg6CVku7rTlaElK7nHJHjaN766eVoSj6C8UhHR7G5Lhnrb3JO9+6srWfxZ78DZNTR2u 9vCv0GYjd2q7FrzjtDt4rpex06l17AejF4dGpKrWUq1Rwcu6i1CEYQcYqCfHxSvJ7lr6ABZKdq10KEYRUY7kDYDWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD//2Q==!
and won't work for your needs.
You can purchase a smaller, no-name FP display new for what the proper adapter could cost, or pick up a cast-off 17- to 19-inch CRT monitor for a few pounds.
If I've confused the issue, please do post back. It is an area the needs explanation as people with the older ADC monitors are finding the obsolete technology a challenge with modern computers.

    • Only if your video camera supports it.  Depending on how your camera works, you may need to add preview software to your Mac to use this feature.
    • Alternatively, your camera may also be able to record directly into your Mac while you are monitoring the Mac's display.
    • If you are using a consumer camcorder that supports HDMI monitoring, a small HDTV might be an simpler solution than your Mac.  For an example of how this is done, see http://youtu.be/GVpSkZD6qE4.
    • The retailer who sold you your video camera may have other suggestions.
    • If you need more professional results, an external preview monitor will offer more capability on compatible cameras.

Use the Remote Desktop icon on the tray and make sure to use the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) on the 'name of server' field.  If that does not work then use the IP address to connect.

  • Can i upgrade the flash storage of my 15inch mac book pro retina?

I have a 2014 15' Mac Book Pro Retina, and its storage capacity is 251 GB Flash Storage, I in architecture school so i run parallel and some other software to get my work done. I was wondering if it was possible to install or have apple install a bigger storage unit to that i can get that extra space i need for my educational needs.

Apple does not upgrade internal flash storage of MacBook Pros after purchase. Not many other companies that have them because it is a very specialized part, but the one I know doesn't seem to have one available yet for 2014 MacBook Pros:
    OWC Aura SSD Upgrades
Of course, it's best to do so after your MacBook Pro warranty is over.

  • How can I steam from my early 2011 15-inch Mac Book Pro to my 2007 Samsung TV?

I have an early 2011, 15-inch Mac Book Pro Software  OS X 10.9.5 (13F34). It does not have an HDMI port. I have a Samsung TV I bought in 2007 (Model LN-4061F). How can I stream from laptop to my TV? My laptop does not have an HDMI port. I've read I can buy an adapter, but I'm not sure what to buy.
    -Does Apple make them?
-Are knockoff adapters "safe" to use with my laptop, and are they reliable/have a good quality connection?
-How much do they cost (I've seen cheap ones on Amazon)?
    -What kind should I buy?
-Will my laptop stream in HD?
I'm new to the community, so hoping someone can advise me how to do this. We also have a Roku, but I'm looking to stream DVDs and directly from TV network websites.
    Thanks for your help!

You will have to use the  minidisplay port to connect to the TV.  Assuming that the TV has an HDMI port, you will need a cable such as this:
    http://www.monoprice.com/Product?seq=1&kpid=9476&format=2&p_id=9476&CAWELAID=164 2113595&CAGPSPN=pla%26catargetid=320013720000066114%26cadevice=c&gclid=CJHTtbyQ0 8MCFRQ2aQod14cABw
With this, you eliminate the need for an adapter.
    Ciao.

  • How can I use bluetooth to send data to my mac book pro?

I can connect my smartphone (nokia) to my Mac Book Pro, but if I try to send something from Nokya to my Mac using bluetooth, that's impossible. The only way is to search what I wanto to store in my Mac, using the Mac and browse my Nokia with Finder.
    Is this correct ??
Is the bluetooth an univesral protocol to send and receive data between two sources ???
Why my Mac is unable to receive the data sended by another source ?? (the same question is valid using an iPhone and another smartphone to try to send/receive data).
    Many thank for your response.

  • Can't connect my external hard drive to my Mac Book Pro. Any thoughts?

I have a 2.0 TB WD Mybookessential as an external hard drive to my Mac Book Pro and I'm getting a "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" message every time I try to remount it. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestion, Cattus, it is in fact a formatted disk with a lot of valuable data, so I do not want to reformat the disk.
I followed your advice, however the repair failed because of an "invalid B-tree node size".
