How can i control what apps download to what device
my daughter has an ipod touch on my apple account but i dont want her device to automatically get all the apps i download on her device?
First turn off automatic downloads on the devices. This is at Settings>Store> there will be on/off switches by apps, books, and music. These switches take new purchases and download them to all devices that this is turned on. Most people have an issue when connecting to the same computer with same user account. Regardless of Appleid used on device, it will store all apps and content together on the computer in itunes. Using separate user accounts on the computer will truly keep things separated. Remember to sync with correct user account or you may merge things together again.

I think that is influenced by the order in which the apps are installed on the iPad (I believe that it's the most recent 10 ?) - but as I haven't got more than 10 apps that support any document/file type I can't check.

On the iPad open Settings/iCloud and delete the account using the button at the bottom. Once deleted log in using the other account. For iTunes Stores use Settings/iTunes & Apps Stores, tapp on the Apple ID at the top then sign out. Once done sign in using the other account. Once you are happy with the changes plug your iPad into your computer to update the backup.

I have noticed the maximum no of apps that appear in 'Open in' is 10 and more frustratingly, new apps which sharing functions replace my favourite old apps (especially good reader app) in the 'Open In'. Is it possible to determine which apps appear in the 'Open In'?, increase the no? Or at least force my favourite apps to appear there or prevent them from being displaced? The only way I cope now is to delete the least favoured apps with sharing functions in order to allow my favourite apps to appear?
There isn't currently a way to edit or control which apps appear in the 'open in' list apart from deleting (or deleting and reinstalling) apps - you could try leaving feedback and maybe in the future we'll have some sort of control : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

How can i remove an app from all my devices including the cloud?
There are some apps that we have on my family's devices and in the cloud that I'm no longer comfortable with my kids using. We share one account. How can I delete them from the devices and the cloud so they can't just reinstall them?
It will prevent them from installing any apps. Only someone with the Restriction passcode will be able to turn app downloads back on and download. You do have the option of setting app downloads based on content ratings, but I can't say how effective that is or if it would resolve your issue.

How can I control which apps use cellular data?
Sometimes I marvel at Apple's amazingness and sometimes I can't believe the holes. Googling around I get the impression that iOS/iPhone provides no means for a user to take control of their data plan and set which apps are permitted to use cellular data and to track cellular data usage on an app by app basis. Am I the only one that finds it unbelievable that an operating system designed for a cell phone that supports adding piles of sometimes sketchy 3rd party apps doesn't have this baked right in? There seem to be a few apps try monitor overall aggregate data usage, but they are useless at getting to the root cause.
So, I hope I'm just missing it. How do I figure out which broken, buggy, misconfigured app I stupidly installed is eating my data plan? Maybe Android is a better choice for guys like me that are too busy to play whack a mole uninstalling and reinstalling apps for hours and days to try to solve such a tedious mystery.

I think this is probably a sign that your network could be better than it is.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. -
I just installed Readdledocs on my ipod, and now when I launch the app, I get a screen which says "downloading message" and the app freezes and won't do anything else. How can I get the app to function again?
This happened after I tried to get Readdledocs to open an epub file which I created in Calibre.This is a followup to my own posting above.
Thanks to Dave Sawyer for posting information about re-downloading an app which has been deleted. I deleted the app from iTunes. Then, when I synched, iTunes asked me if I wanted the items on my ipod touch copied back into iTunes. I said yes and then synched.
Readdledocs is now working again. It is no longer frozen. However, I have learned my lesson. I will download only pdf's from now on. I don't think it works so well with epub files. The text reflow feature of Readdledocs is exactly what I need to use for my work documents on my ipod touch. -

Your phone connected, iTunes running, under the "Apps" tab, you've selected this app to install on your phone, correct? Hit the "Apply/Sync" button, lower right on the Apps tab, what happens?

You need a computer with iTunes and an internet connection

- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
