How can I delete all the email from a user's account?

I have a user account with a huge amount of mail (around 50K messages) that Apple Mail can't deal with... it constantly hangs and/or crashes whether I use POP or IMAP to try and delete all the mail from the client.
How can I delete all the mail from the mailbox on the server? I don't want to delete the account entirely, I just want to empty everything out of it.

If I've understood you correctly and if you've used that exact same command It's not surprising it won't work. Perhaps you've forgotten but Cyrus is not part of 10.6 Server. It was replaced with Dovecot. I've not used 10.6 Mail Services yet so I'm not certain but I think deleting the User deletes the mailbox?
Perhaps someone who is can verify?

Depends whether you have selected Lock when Full or Wrap when Full for the Buffer Mode. If you have selected Lock When Full, the capture will stop when the the buffer is full. You can then Save the Buffer and download it in the form of sniffer file and start you capture again. This will over write the old data. If you have selected Wrap when Full, then it will continue the capture when the buffer is full. The oldest packets are discarded as new packets arrive.

I went back into iTunes and made corrections, synced my phone and no changes were made to the music on my phone. I have gone into iTunes, selected the device at the top right corner, selected all the music that showed up in the window - gone to the Edit menu, selected "all" and then "delete." The list of tracks disappears from the device list. I then synced the phone again, and the albums are still on the phone. What am I missing, please? I've even shut the phone down and restarted it, synced it again, but nothing changes.

I am trying to delete the many emails from my outlook account which I can bring up on my ipad mini. I want to keep the outlook email on the ipad. So far all I have been able to do is bring up the email list, touch edit, then touch each email then move to trash. I have a lot of email and would like to delete them all at once. The Apple instructions state:
Edit a mailbox.
While viewing a list of messages, tap Edit. Select certain messages or tap Mark All, then:
Tap Mark to Flag, Mark as Read or Move to Junk
Tap Move to move selected messages into a mailbox
Tap Trash to move them to the trash
If you make a mistake, shake iPhone immediately to undo.
Unfortunately, the MOVE and the Trash buttons never activate ... is there a fix for this or is this an oversight?

There doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it. and there should be.
Try this, I never have but it should work.
on your touch go to
1 Settings
2 Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3 select your email account ( the one with 1500 emails)
4. scroll down and select Advanced
5. select Remove
6. select After one day ( the default is never)
tomorrow your 1500 emails should be gone. any new emails should be there.
You may want to keep the setting at one day, one week, one month or never. BUT you should probably cleanup and delete some of those 1500 old emails.

The software is up to date so its not that. I have also turned off the 'show all' option and there are still tracks left. It won't let me drag the songs sideways to delete, and when I connect the phone on my iTunes and click un-sync it from my music it STILL doesn't remove all of it (despite a message saying this will remove all songs and playlists- rubbish).

I finally went to Apple Care tech support (the best!) for help.
Plug your phone into the computer.
I-Tunes should open.
Toward the top left of the page, click on the small I-Phone icon.
Select Music in the sidebar.
In the right window, your music should appear.
De-select what you don't want, then click Sync.
Voila.

If you've already deleted "everything else"...then plug your phone into a power source and: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings.
Make sure you plug into a power source first...not your computer...as on an iPhone 3G, this can take some time. When finished, all data will be gone.
