How can I disable start up sound?
how can I disable start up sound?
Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
http://www.silvermac.com/2006/mac-os-x-start-up-sound-volume-control/
It's a preference pane control that allows you to adjust the volume of the startup sound or disable it completely.
Hope this helps!

How can i disable the startup sound on the Droid Turbo?
How can I disable the startup sound on the Droid Turbo?
I was going to suggest doing the Following from the Link I added below to see if Silence Mode would silence the power up but on my Droid Maxx it does not the start up Droid is still present so I'm not really sure there is an option to silence it.
The First Link is for the ( Ultra Droid Maxx and Mini) the Second Link is for the Droid Turbo. the instructions for the two style of phones are the same.. as far as I could tell

How can I disable the event sound played when a new window is opened?
When Firefox starts, or when a new window is opened there is an annoying click.
How can I disable this?
The only way I have been able to stop it is by disabling all event sounds from the control panel but I'd rather just disable this particular sound. No, it's Windows XP. Hmmm, I don't know! I only started noticing it recently and as far as I remember, the only new add on is NoScript. I found the event that was being triggered (Start Connection) and disabled the sound in Windows. So the problem is solved in that I don't have the annoying sound ... but don't know why it started and hope nothing sinister is going on.

How can I disable the notification sound for remaining credit messages
My operator sends me a message after every call and text which tells me what remains of my monthly allowances. This is very useful and I don't want to turn it off. I've just got myself a Z10 and the only thing that annoys me about it is that I have not yet found out how to disable the notification sound for this type of message. The device is stock with the latest firmware and no apps.
I can change the notification for normal text messages in the settings, but there is no obvious entry to change for these messages. Does anyone know how to do it?Zotan wrote:

If the message comes in the (bell) notifications it can only be switched OFF globally.
If it is a text message, you can create a contact with the number, then Setting - Notifications - Contacts - Customise - Phone Calls, Email Messages, Text Messages, Other Messaging -
How can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air?
how can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air? i dont know my imessages to pop up on my laptop when it turns on. But i dont want to disable imessage totally on my macbook.
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, check that Messages is closed when you turn off your MacBook. This is so important because, by default, OS X will reopen all opened apps the next time you start your Mac.
Apart from that, when you go to > Shut Down, or > Restart, in the window you see to restart or turn off your MacBook, unmark "Reopen windows when logging back in". This will avoid that your Mac opens all opened apps the next time you start the MacBook, so Messages won't start automatically at startup -

Hi All,
I need help, my password keeps getting hacked, and I keep changing the password, and changing all my security questions. I have changed everything I can. How can I disable my account, but not lose everything that I already have in there? Is this possible or do I have to start all over again? You might have some better luck if you call your country number from http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 and ask to speak with the Account Security Team.

When Photoshop says "measuring memory" during startup, it is asking the OS how much RAM is available and what hard disks are available for scratch disks.
If you have network volumes mounted that are unavailable, then the OS may take a while to time out on accessing those drives.
The same goes if you have a bad USB drive connected. -

How can I disable Messenger Chat in v8.0? Or, at the least, say I'm offline so that some bimbo won't be wanting to talk to me every time I start Yahoo mail?
Sorry, I somehow mis-posted this under Mail Filters the first time.I'm in Yahoo Mail v8.0. Options > Messenger Options offers four sub-menus: General, Appearance, Privacy, and Other. None of them offer an option to turn it off...which is ''exactly'' what I would love to be able to do!
If I choose Options > Mail Options, I can likewise find nothing under it to disable Messenger. Earlier I could simply choose Offline and not be bothered by it. These days, though, FF changes versions faster than I change underwear. If I'm just missing it in either option menu, I'll surely apologize.

How can I disable the camera's clicking sound?
That click is irritating and pointless to me. I understand they don't want people surreptiously photographing women's beavers on subways in Tokyo and such, but that is easily overridden by simply by turning off all the iPhone's sounds completely each time with the little button on the top of the left side of the phone.
My point is, I don't want to have to silence my phone each time, and then turn it back on again after taking some pictures, which I often forget to do. So how can I disable the silly camera sound without muting the entire iPhone each and every time I use the camera?Actually in other countries, even on silent it will not mute the camera as it is their law to have camera sound.
As for here, that is only option, silent mode. -

The only way I have found to stop that popup is to disable the HP QuickLaunch VolumeDisplay from the Microsoft Configuration Utility, But it will also disable the Clicking sound (I Think) ...
Click Start > Type "MSCONFIG" in Start Search > Click MSCONFIG in the Programs List
Then Click on the Startup Tab and then uncheck the item for HPVOLUMEDISPLAY (forget the exact name) then click on APPLY then CLOSE and Restart

We have Firefox 10.o on our Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8. I prefer using Firefox as my browser but my husband prefers Safari for now because of a long history of bookmarks and saved information he doesn't have time to re-do. He is tired of Firefox automatically opening when we start up the laptop, and even when we uncheck the "open at login" it still opens at login every time. He is about to uninstall it because of this. How can we disable? It does NOT show up in our account on the Mac OS as an application that starts at login, so we can't disable it there.
For those of you running Windows, I found this on another site. (Unfortunately, not before getting totally disgusted and switching to chrome.)
1. click start (or the windows flag button at the bottom left) 2. in the "search programs and files" or the RUN dialog box, enter "msconfig.exe" or "msconfig". 3. That should open the system configuration program. 4. click the "Startup" tab at the top of the opened program. 5. Under the "startup item" column, look for Mozilla firefox. 6. uncheck that one. 7. Click OK or apply. 8. click "exit without restart". 9. you're good to go.
