How can I disable the Facebook Notification in Firefox 6 which takes my focal point from what I am typing until I close the notification in the lower right corner.

When I have Facebook open, I get pop-ups in the lower right corner that tell me that I have new notifications or messages in Facebook. When the little pop-up shows, no matter what I am typing, my cursor is taken away until I click the x to close the pop-up. It is very annoying and slows me down so much. It disables my typing.
If this cannot be resolved, I will either go back to version 5 or uninstall Firefox completely.

How can I disable all multimedia features in firefox?

When visiting certain websites there are sometimes annoying popup windows
in the background with video and sometimes also audio.
I would like to disable these features in Firefox, having audio blasting out of
my loudspeakers at max loudness all of a sudden can be a bit unnerving.
I don't have Flash installed or any other multimedia plugin that I know of.
Is there a "safe" mode for the latest version of Firefox?
My version of Firefox is 27.0.1, and I'm on Win 2012.

The Turnitin system requirements on mention Firefox 3. If it does not support Firefox 4 you can downgrade to Firefox 3.6
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

How can I disable animated tab effects in Firefox 19.0?

I updated Firefox a few days ago from 18.0.2 to 19.0 and now see that the tabs slide around when I drag to rearrange them or try to ppostion a tab over a bookmarks toolbar folder for bookmarking. The tab being dragged also gets transparent although I don't recall that happening previously unless it was moved over the browser window. Although I see reference to a similar animation problem for 17.0 I had no issues until the recent update.
I have Tab Mix Plus installed but see no settings that have to do with tab animation. Browser.Tab.Animate in about:config is already to set to "false".
This is annoying, useless and when I am trying to drag a tab across the tabs bar onto the bookmarks toolbar the tab will hang up in a "phantom" position at the point where it crosses the tab bar. How do I undo this or turn it off, short of adding yet another extension to deal with it (Tab Utilities)?

Good, so I'm not crazy.
I'm still having the same problem and it slows down my browsing experience considerably since I do a lot of drag-and-drop bookmarking. The browser hangs frequently after dragging a tab to a toolbar folder, then you have to wait for the tab to "fly back" to its original position.
The same with rearranging tabs -- it has to be positioned _just so_ where it is being moved to or the move doesn't take and I have to do it again
As you confirmed, this has nothing to do with browser.tabs.animate as mine is currently set to "false" and had been all along, even before this maddening behavior (including tab transparency when tabs overlap) became visible.
I suspect there is a css edit or Greasemonkey script solution but have not have time to look anything up. I wasted enough time Googling this only to keep turning up the browser.tabs.animate "solution" over and over. It would be nice if there was at least some acknowledgement from other users or the usual problem solvers that this was not normal behavior before.

Almost all PDF files produce the "this PDF document might not be displayed correctly" message when viewed with the built-in PDF viewer.
This message does not convey useful information. It appears on almost all PDF files (even though they usually work correctly after all); it sometimes fails to appear even on files that don't work (so it does not accurately predict whether a given file will work); when a file doesn't work, there is no way to make it work short of using an external viewer (so the error I'm being warned about is not something I can fix); and it demands a user action to dismiss it EVERY TIME it appears (so it places a disproportionate demand on my attention). How can I disable it?
Please note that I am not looking for instructions on how to disable the built-in PDF viewer. I just want to turn off the warning message.

The only way to stop this message is to disable the built-in PDF Viewer and use another viewer.<br />
On Linux you only have an older version of the Adobe Reader available, so you may have to open the PDF files in an external viewer like evince.
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu if you want to display PDF documents in Firefox with another application (i.e. not the built-in PDF Viewer).

If you mean the built-in functionality of Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash, it's different mechanism for both.

For txt messages you can change the option of whether previews are shown (Settings >> Messages >> Show Preview Toggle). Switching this "Off" will still show a notification of a missed txt message, but it will not show text from the message itself.
Unfortunately, similar functionality does not currently exist for phone calls; however, the new iOS release (scheduled for September, I think rumor has it) will revamp the way notifications are handled, and there maybe an elegant solution for you then.

We have Firefox 10.o on our Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8. I prefer using Firefox as my browser but my husband prefers Safari for now because of a long history of bookmarks and saved information he doesn't have time to re-do. He is tired of Firefox automatically opening when we start up the laptop, and even when we uncheck the "open at login" it still opens at login every time. He is about to uninstall it because of this. The Windows bar already functions as a tab bar. Those tabs are called "windows." So, I find Firefox tab windows superfluous. How can I disable them completely from Firefox 23? I don't need what is essentially TWO windows bars covering up the entire width of my widescreen monitor's image! I already have a Windows bar at the bottom of my screen and, if I really wanted to, I could change ITS position to the top of the screen, so that it would LOOK like the Firefox tab windows bar. Firefox TABS are, essentially, a superfluous SECOND WINDOWS BAR.
Here are my reasons for why I'd rather use Mozilla's Firefox, than Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Google's Chrome. (In case you haven't guessed, I am deliberately referring to your Firefox tabs bar as a "Firefox tabs 'windows' bar," because TABS are WINDOWS!)

Let me clarify even more. The Firefox add-on you mention does not remove "tabs" windows. It only HIDES the "tabs" bar when there is only one "tab" in that window. It DOES NOT end "tabs." It does not turn "tabs" off.
I know this, because, even with the add-on you recommend, the "tabs" bar often re-appears when I open a link, which--for some unknown reason--Firefox defaults to opening in a second "tab" within the same window, rather than putting it in a new Windows bar window. This, of course, disregards what I want to happen.
I want to use my Windows bar to control my windows. I do not want my Firefox browser controlling my windows--which it calls "tabs." Can you tell me how to shut off "tabs?"
