How can I disable the internal display on my MacBook Pro with connected external display?

I used this metod with the MagSafe power cable connected (see http://osxdaily.com/2012/06/15/yet-another-way-to-turn-off-internal-lcd-display- of-macbook-pro-with-lid-open/).
Open System Preferences and click “Mission Control”, then click on “Hot Corners”
Select a hot corner and pull down the menu to select “Put Display to Sleep”
Now connect the external display to the Mac and move the cursor to the newly created sleep corner to turn off the internal display
Close the MacBook lid and wait a few seconds before opening the lid again, the internal display should stay off while the external display will be powered on
This worked great under Mac OS X 10.7.4, but after the last update to 10.7.5 it doesn’t work more. The built-in display turns off really, but a few seconds after opening the lid it lights up again. Do you have any suggestions? Dimming the brightness or clamshell mode is not very useful.
MacBook Pro 13-inch,
2,7 GHz Intel Core i7,
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G56)
Thanks!

I have the same problem: not able to work with my external display mirroring the internal one - while shutting the internal display off.
I believe there is an issue with Mac OS X Lion 7.5 that Apple needs to solve, since apparently it does not happen with this version of the OS only...
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4315808?start=45&tstart=0
Or any other way to solve it?

Thank you!

  • How can i disable the internal speakers without voiding the warranty?

The students here annoy other students trying to study, I have made an extension for the headphone so that it is mounted under the monitor, facing the front and hot glued the headphone jack to the back, but the students ripped out the extension and threw it away so that they could play very awful music and annoy everyone.
How can I disable the internal speakers on our imacs without voiding warranty? There has to be a way!
    Thanks-

Have you considered corporal punishment? One instructor I had in high school, when he had detention duty, played classical music an operas all during detention. He was quite "evil". He would have some slow "sleepy" music going for a bit, then it would throw in something to wake every one up like the 1812 Overture or something, and repeat this a few times...and have the music loud enough to prevent talking. Many detention-ees thought that was "cruel and unusual punishment." (LOL)
But to your question. Since opening the case would normally void the warranty (unless you can find a empathetic Apple technician), what I would suggest is a "sleeve". Imagine some sheet metal and form it into a rectangular tube. The tube would closely follow the shape of the iMac covering all the cable ports. Then bolt the tube and iMac to the table. (Or at the very least, bolt the tube to the iMac.) Basically, make it so that there little room between the tube and iMac, that no one could access the ports without removing the tube. You'll also need to secure the cables to the tube so that no one can just pull out the cables, yet leave enough slack to allow for removal of the tube for maintenance. Even if the metal is not a full tube, but the Mac and metal is bolted to the table in such a way as to prevent access to the ports could be sufficient deterrent. If metal is not possible, then perhaps plastic or wood.
I realize that is requires some work, and there is a drawback as pranksters could start dropping stuff inside the tube. Perhaps just have a clear plastic "wall" preventing all physical access to the Mac. Only a USB extension cable for the keyboard/mouse. Use Remote Disk sharing to mount CDs, if necessary.
    Some thoughts, anyway. Good luck!

  • How can I erase the data on my 2009 macbook pro that won't turn on because of a faulty motherboard? Do I just remove the hard drive, install it in a working mac, and erase it that way?

You put the internal drive in an enclosure. If you choose to keep the drive, you don't need to erase it.

  • How can I get the tech specs of my MacBook Pro?

Hi - I want to sell my MacBook Pro (to buy a new one). I am one of those people who loves Apple because I do not have to worry about techy things as I had to when I was a PC guy. The problem is that, as a result, now that I want to sell my MacBook, I cannot remember its tech configuration and do not know how to get it!!
I am sure this question is most silly for most of you. Could someone please let me know how I can get the tech specs of my MacBook? In particular, I was thinking of:
    - OS X version
    - Processor
    - L2 cache
    - System Bus
    - Memory (RAm)
    - Hard Drive
    - Optical Drive
    - Graphics card
    - Graphics memory
    - Video capability
    - Display resolution
    - Expantion slots, etc
    - Ethernet card
    - Wireless card
    Thanks a lot!!

For the published specs, click on the Support tab at the top of the page, select the "Tech Specs" link, and search for your model of MacBook Pro. For specifics about your system, run System Profiler, which will be in Applications -> Utilities folder on your MBP.

  • Can you replace the ssd drive in retina macbook pro with hdd inside of a bay of some kind?

Hey guys, want to replace my 256 flash based drive in my 2014 macbook pro retina with a 1th 7200rpm hdd. Is this possible with a bay adapter of some kind?

No. The SSD is not upgradeable. There is not bay. The SSD is just a small board attached to the motherboard.

  • How can I disable the web cam on my macbook?

My macbook cam suddenly came on....can't seem to disable it anywhere....searching for answers online.  If you know, please share.
Yes I've tried opening & closing "Photo Booth", and no I have never used a program which requires my cam to be enabled.  The green light just appeared when I opened up my macbook today.  Rebooting solves nothing, neither does rebooting in safe mode and repeating the same steps as before (opening/closing Photo Booth).
    ...the search continues!
    -Demok

Yep, did all of that already, pretty much have done it all....only thing I have not done is remove the battery....will try that next.
In the grand scheme of things, I really could care less about this so I just chip away with odd 5 mins here & there of troubleshooting.
.....I guess Apple is not immune to the incompetence of poorly engineered drivers, oh well, still better than a PC....just annoying sometimes to constantly have this light on and basically have no functional webcam.

  • Can the latest and greatest 15" Macbook Pro handle 2 external displays running 2560x1440?

if so how and with what adapters?
i cannot find any concrete evidence that it can. anything i find remotely close uses an HDMI cable which is not acceptable. my 27" dell displays running 2560x1440 only have a dual link DVI and a displayport port (not mini). can this be done and with what?

    Hello guys,
With that in mind I think the i7 is the only way to go with the 16GB RAM!? correct me if i'm wrong!
Then there is the processor; 2.3GHz or 2.6GHz(+ €183,92)  - is it worth the extra money and will I notice anything in my editing speed?
I read alot on the forums about upgrading the storage to 1TB SSD but thats way out of my budget, would this be necessary for video editing? if so, is a external storage a good and 'cheap' solution?
    -LarsOw36
I would agree that you want 16GB of RAM for the work you'll be doing on the system.
As far as the processor, in my opinion, you're not going to see or feel any difference spending the bucks on a 2.6GHz processor.
Again, in my opinion, an external drive (USB 3.0) would be best to store large files. No need to spend the bucks on a larger SSD. I would buy a 1TB external USB 3.0 drive and get the base 256GB SSD in the Retina.

    • Free Space on Start-Up hard disk. How much ? (other disks do not count)
You might need to free up space on Your Main Hard Disk - I never let this go less than 25Gb when doing Video.

If we creating a screen using the table having four fields(for e.g.). The screen has the functions of display, modify, delete, save, exit etc for the fields. The front-end of the screen having I/O fields of the table using internal table. How can we declare the internal table in the screen?

    HI,
Create one WA for your Internal table and then map it to your fields.
    For Example,
    Data : begin of wa,
              name(10),
              age type i,
               end of wa.
data : it like table of wa with header line.
Then in screen create input fields with the name, age and ***.
Then the user entered values are stored in name age and ***.
then you can manipulate with that values using wa.
    Thanks.
