How can I display files in external program like Word?

Using NetBeans 6.5, IE7, Windows XP
I have not had any luck attempting to get a PDF file to display in a separate browser window,
so I thought I might try to combine that with a new issue.
I have 3 file types - jpg, rtf and pdf that should be able to be displayed in external programs like Word or Adobe.
Is there a way to start an external application and pass the file name from a backing bean?
The files would be located on the server in a directory that is mapped to the client and the applications (Word, etc.) would reside on the client.
Can this be done from within the confines of a JSF application?

I was kind of hoping that someone could point me to an example of how to do this.
I've tried the servlet approach, but can't seem to get the file to display in a separate browser window.
That is why I thought about maybe launching a separate application, if that is possible.

If you know the path to the tool, I have some code at artcomputer.se/java. Look for the ProcessTracker.
The main point is that you need to track both the output and error streams, ot the tool might be blocked.

Sorry, I was confused. Actually I see in the laptop Internal Storage and SD card. I thought that what I was seeing was the phone memory and the phone's internal storage memory. I thought I had to see three folders. Now I know that the phone memory is not seen in the laptop.
It also confuses me that in Astro File are the following memories with different names: ext_card, sdcard, sdcard1, sdcard0. I have come to the conclusion that ext_card= sdcard1(external memory) and sdcard=sdcard0 (internal memory), but I don't know because in Astro these memories have these names, and are repeated.

you have several options:
- make your system administrator software install software on Unix and NT so that you can see a directory on the Unix machine from your NT machine, and just copy the file there
- use FTP to put the file on the Unix machine

How can I display file size in Finder

Hi folks,
I am trying to figure out where 40GB of data is hiding. I would like to see file sizes in the Finder window associated with my folders in Mountain Lion 10.8.2.. I'm having, what seems to me, a strange problem. When I 'Get Info' on my Hard Drive, the disc space left is only 40GB out of 120GB (ie used being 80GB). My confusion is that when I painstakingly go through the files, I can only account for 48 GB with 'Get Info' on each folder. This is a rather combersome process and I am hoping there is a work around for viewing the file sizes within Finder and not having to open 'Get Info' on each and every folder like I have been.

I looked through both links and sadly, none of these suggestions have worked. I have tried many on my own since posting trying to figure out why the volume is being doubled on my hard drive. I've deleted log files, and done a sweep with Onyx to no avail. Strangely, the option of seeing the volumes under 'About this Mac' and 'System' does not have a listing for storage. Weird. I am the only user/administrator on this computer and I don't have shared files.
I'm just stumped.

GOTO Finder top of menu bar on desktop....then PREFERENCE......then GENERAL tab.....then check "hard disks".....it will show your EXTERNAL HD on the desktop,....click to open......

You options are to either upgrade to pse version 10 or use the DNG converter

How can I import files from a windows environment?

I am used to a pc environment. How can I import files ie. PDF, excel, word onto my iPad? I imagine that this is done through ITunes but am unsure how? Are there iPad versions of say Microsoft office that need to be used?

I use Documents to Go, a program that will open all the file types you listed. With its purchase you also get access to a desktop program that allows you to wirelessly sync documents between computers and your device, without going through iTunes.
The other ways to get data onto your device
Mail it to yourself and then save it to (send it to) the app from the e-mail.
Use iTunes to sync the data into the app that will open it.
Use an online service like Dropbox or others. You put the data 'out there' on your PC, then access it on your iPad and save it into the app.
One thing to remember, the iPad is different from Windows and Macs in one fundamental way. There is no 'windows explorer' or 'finder' for the iPad. The operating system doesn't have access to the whole device and everything on it. Instead you have apps that access bits and pieces of the system and have limited ways to share data across apps.
Think of it as World War Two French Resistence.....all these different groups (apps) working on the same device, but most if not all of them have very limited ways to discuss/contact each other. The apps are 'sandboxed' in that they have limited contact with other apps. So the easiest way to deal with various file types is to find the app that handles that kind of file and use that.

thanks for the reply. What i meant was like for example in this example:
int)(99*Math.random())+1
I want that numbers frm 1-9 be displayed as 01, 02, ...09, the rest normal,
so basically instead showing lets say 6 it should display 06, but if number is 45 it should display like 45 and not 045

That's odd - if you open Disk Utility (Applications->Utilities) and select the disk(s), how are they formatted? If you're only going to be used with your Mac, they should be formatted as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".

Did You ever use - iPhoto ?
Did You may be direct iPhoto to a different Photo Library
As iMovie tries to find the appropriate photo library - it can get lost if iPhoto direct it into a Library on a not connected external hard disk or to a strange location - And iMovie HANGS.
Do - When no other program is running that might interfere
• Start iPhoto - BUT NOW KEEP alt-key (option key) DOWN during the full Start-Up process
• Now iPhoto let's You select Photo Library
• Select the one in Your Account / Home folder / Pictures ! !
• Then iPhoto should start up OK
• Now Quit iPhoto
• START iMovie
Does it still hangs - then I would suspect - iMovie Pref. file
If it Run's OK - Then HURRAY !

Take the exernal drive appart. Take out the harddrive. Try reading the data via a usb adapter. Put a household finan on the hd.

I can successfully view and control a VI remotly. However, the remote VI dinamically loads another VI, this VI loaded dinamically is a VI that allows open others VIs, I want to see the files that contains the server machine, in the client machine, but the front panel of the dinamic VI appears only on the server and not on the client, How can I display the fron panel with the files of the server machine of the dinamically loaded VI on the client computer?

I down loaded your files but could use some instructions on what needs run.
It seems that you are so close yet so far. You need to get the data on the server machine over to the client. I generally do this by doing a call by reference (on the client machine) of a VI that is served by the server. THe VI that executes on the server should pass the data you want to diplay via one of its output terminals. You can simply wire from this terminal (back on the client again) to an indicator of your choosing.
Now theorectically, I do not think that there is anything that prevents use from getting the control refnum of the actual indicator (on the server) of the indicator that has the data, and read its "Value" using a property node. I have never tried this idea but it seems t
hat all of the parts are there. You will need to know the name of the VI that holds the data as well as the indicator's name. You will also have to serve all VI's. This is not a good idea.

In a FM 11 book, how can I display filename w/o file location?

In a FrameMaker book, how can I display filename without the file's location on the hard drive?
For example, The book would list:
"MyFile.fm"
instead of
C:\windows\documents\Framefiles\XYZ Company\widgets\draft_2013_1111\MyFile.fm
If this cannot be done, then how can I get the book to list a name for the added file other than the name of the first heading in the file contents?

Check out the little toggle icon beside the magnifying glass in the book tab – you can swap back and forth between “Display Heading Text” and “Display File Names”
