How can I download a movie onto my iPad without the iTunes extras or in  SD?

I have been trying to download or transfer some of my movies to my iPad, but with all the new iTunes extras some of the movies are 5GB or more now which is crazy. Is there a way to transfer the movies without these features, so that I have more space?

I had the same question as was asked here, and I see that if I turn off my Wi-Fi on my iPad I can no longer access the iTunes Extras. However, if the extras are streaming-based, why is the file size of movies with Extras so much larger than those without? Any other HD movie with a similar running time is between 1.5 and 2.5GB, all with Extras are between 3.5 and 5GB. The problem isn't the Extras, its the lack of space on my iPad.

  • How do I get personal movies onto my iPad without using iTunes

    Hi,
I have several "movies" - like ones my kids made using iMovie on their their ipods, clips of my kids playing their sports, and other non-tradional films that i would like to keep and add or subtract to my liking from my iPad (3rd Gen). In iTunes i have pretty much "cut the cord" - the only items that synch with itunes are the videos that I mentioned (hollywood videos I purchse through iTunes I access through the iCloud now) and photos with Aperture. I really dont want - or need to synch with iTunes anymore - the user experience is so wonderful going with just the iCloud and my Dropbox. But I really want the freeedom to add a personal video to my iPad w/o having to synch - it takes FOREVER and always has a glitch of some sort.
In case your thinking to just use the dropbox - I know that... but it is internet dependant then - and play back is not what i'd call "Retina worthy" - and you can't save Drpbox video to the iPad's HD.
Does anyone have another method that is working for them??
I love being "bareback" with the iPad and don't want to go backwards.
    Thanks in advance!

Background: You can transfer photos and movies made on your camera and recorded to an SD card directly into your iPad using an Apple Lightning SD Card Camera Reader.  So all you have to do is convince your iPad that the SD card with your other movies (ripped DVDs etc) came from your camera.
    1. Your movies need to be in a format your iPad will read - .mp4 or .mov work well.  For DVDs, you need to rip it  into .mp4 files - I use Xilisoft DVD to iPad Converter which works well.
    2. Store these files someplace convenient on your hard drive.
    3. Rename the .mp4 files so they have EXACTLY 8 characters in the file name without any spaces (digital cameras create 8 digit file names).
    4. Format your SD card folder structure so that to your iPad, it looks like it came straight out of your digital camera.  The easiest way to do this, is to format the SD card in your camera and then take a single photo on the card.
    5. Attach you SD card to your computer (via a direct SD slot or a USB adaptor) and navigate through the SD card's folder structure to find the photo to took on your camera.
    6. Copy all the video files that you want to watch on your iPad to the SAME location as the photo file.
    7. Eject the SD card and insert it into your Apple Lightning SD Card Camera Reader and it into your iPad.
    8. Go to the "Photos" icon app (not the Videos icon app) and follow the usual transfer instructions from the iOS.
Note that unlike movies in the Videos app from iTunes, the video files loaded this way appear only as a video icon with the time length of the file.  ie No files names are visible, therefore you may need to write a short note identifying each file name according to its play time.

  • How can I download a movie to my ipad if it's not purchased from itunes?

How can i download a movie to my ipad if I don't purchase it from itunes?  basically, I want to buy a movie but need it for multiple venues:  ipad, home blu ray, etc.  Any suggestions are welcome!
    thanks, H

You'll have to use 3rd Party software to convert the movies into an readable format. Check this article:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2729
After that you can add the movie to your iTunes library and sync it to your device.

  • How can i transfer rental movies from my Ipad to my iTunes library before updating

how can i transfer rental movies from my Ipad to my iTunes library before updating ?

    According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1415 :
You can move the rental between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period. However, the movie can only be played on one device at a time. If you rent a movie or TV show on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on that device.
So I assume that you cannot use File > Transfer Purchases to copy them to your computer (though there is no harm in trying)

  • How can i download  OS X Lion 10.7 without the app store?

ow can i download  OS X Lion 10.7 without the app store ?

You don't. For a while, Apple sold 10.7 usb sticks, but they don't now. See if you can find one of them lying around. Otherwise, the mac app store is your only option. (P.S. To even get 10.7, you have to call Apple at 1-800-MY-APPLE and buy a download code. Lion is not availible on the app store without a code).

  • How can I sync selected books to my ipad via the itunes interface?

I have a lot of books and pdfs all neatly tagged in my itunes library, and I would like to be able to sync selected books to my ipad from the itunes 'books' library page. I cannot for the life of me find a way to do this!
I realise you can choose to sync either 'all books' or 'selected books' from the 'Devices' > 'ipad' > 'books' tab option; however this is not really feasible as all you can do here is select  from the entire list of books (only options are to sort by title or author).
It is obviously much easy to find the set of books I'm interested in using the itunes search, and sorting based on the various tags I have in the metadata. I would assume there must be a way to highlight the relevant books in this view, and 'send to ipad'? There is an option to put a check mark next to a book, but this deosen't seem to do anything at all.
If anyone could help I would be grateful, the only other option I could think of would be to identify the relevant books in the itunes library view, write down thier titles, and then sift through the 'selected books' in my ipad 'books' tab and check them one by one!! Not fun
    Many thanks!

Oh, how I wish that would work!
I know the thread is over a year ago, but I came upon searching for a solution to the exact same problem.  iMaestro, you've described what's needed exactly--a way of checking all of them, and then deselecting a certain limited subset.
Unfortunately, when you check Sync Books, All Books, the selection portion is then greyed out.  Maybe this problem was introduced with the latest iTunes version!
I think I'll be stuck having to painstakingly check most of a set of books, rather than just uncheck the dozen or so that clutter up the list.
Oh, related to that.  I'm assuming that there's a way of deleting the books entirely...  maybe that's another solution.

  • I have many of those lost photos on my iPod.  How can I import those to my MacBook Pro without the iTunes synchronization kicking in and removing them?

I lost rather a lot of photos on a corrupted external storage device.  I have many of those photos on my iPod.  How can I import those
photos into my MacBook Pro without the iTunes synchronization function kicking in and effectively deleting those photos I want to
import from that iPod?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as those photos now only reside on that iPod...

The photos you synced to your iPod through iTunes are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnails of those photos.  So if you do manage to get them off your iPod, they will be quite small in size compared to the original ones you lost.
In order to get them off of your iPod, you'll need the help of some sort of 3rd party software. Here is one option.

    From iTunes

As long as the films have been fully downloaded to your iPad, or you've synced them from your computer's iTunes, then you should be able to watch them in the Videos app without needing to be online

  • HT204370 can i download a movie onto usb drive to watch on tv

I am computer illiterate. Can i download a movie onto a usb drive to watch on tv?

    No.
You can connect your computer to your tv and watch an itunes purchased movie.

  • HT1420 Can I download a movie onto my authorised computer and then copy if onto USB stick to put in the TV?

Can I download a movie onto my authorised computer and then copy if onto a USB to plug into our TV?

If you mean a movie purchased from the iTunes Store then the answer is no. Movies purchased from the iTunes Store are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) in this case using Apple's 'FairPlay' scheme and this prevents you simply copying and playing the file.
You can however purchase a movie from the iTunes Store and either play it via iTunes on a Mac or PC which could be connected to your TV, or you can use an Apple TV device which is specifically made for this purpose.
    See http://www.apple.com/appletv/
If on the otherhand you mean just a movie you have downloaded from a website which is nothing to do with Apple's iTunes Store then it very much depends on the format of the movie. Some 'Smart' TVs can play some movie file formats from USB memory sticks. You will need to check the specs of your TV to see what formats it supports.

how can i download a movie so i can watch it on a aircraft

If films are available in your country's iTunes store then you can buy and download them via the iTunes store app on your iPad, and they will download into the Videos app (or you can buy them via iTunes on your computer and then sync them to your iPad). As long as the films have been fully downloaded then you should be able to watch them in the Videos app whilst the iPad is offline.
