How can I export or convert to AVI file for use on PC?

I know I did this back in Jan 2009 but can't remember the process to get an AVI file that retains the sound. I thought I exported a SWF and then somehow converted it to an AVI.
*The file:*
*Retains sound, builds and movement.*
*Automatically advances, using "control p" to pause (did not retain the click-to-advance feature).*
I've been reviewing third party software but they seem to all state that the won't retain the sound/builds etc.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

The simplest way is to export as QT and then open the QT using Quick Time Player. If you've got pro you can export as .avi.
There are videos on youtube showing you how to upgrade to QT Pro for free...

  • How do you convert .AVI files for using in iMovie without losing the original clip time and date

Hi everyone! does anyone know how to convert .AVI files for using in iMovie without losing the original clip time and date? Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip and Evon all replace the original timecode with the date of modification. This is very frustrating when you are trying to keep the chronology right. I know that if you upload the files to iMovie from one device the chronology isn't a problem, but I'm adding video files from a couple of iPhones and a couple of camcorders. any help much appeciated.

  • How do I import an AVI file for use with FInal Cut Express

How do I import or use an AVI file with Final Cut Express?
Thank you. Do I need to convert my AVI file and what is the
easiest way to do that? Thank you.

You should convert the media to QuickTime. Without knowing any specifics most likely the simplest way is to use MPEG Streamclip.

  • Converting uncompressed AVI files for FCP?

I recently had 30 reels of old 8mm film footage from the 50's and 60's converted to digital and I now have a hard drive with all of the footage converted to uncompressed AVI files.  These are extremley large files as one 2 minute and 38 second clip is 4.45 gigs.
I want to bring them into Final Cut Pro to edit them but retain as much quality and picture as I can.  I am going to use Mpeg Streamclip to convert the AVI files to quicktime Mov. files but what compression setting and frame size should I use when converting them to Mov. files for best results?  As far as frame size, should I use 648 X 486 4:3 aspect ratio or 720 X 486 unscaled?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Given the material, standard ProRes or even ProRes LT (if you have FCP v7) is fine.
ProRes HQ is intended for 35mm film out and/or 2k video. It is a waste of file space and processing overhead for your purposes.

  • How can I export a smallformat flatten PDF-file with transparant parts in?

My post on a PDF - more clear with images (english):
    http://www.logicontrol.be/gallery/documents/help-eng.pdf
    Deze post in nederlandstalige versie:
    http://www.logicontrol.be/gallery/documents/help-nl.pdf
    Scope?
I'dd like to export an Indesign-file (.indd) to a PDF-file that has to be:
    - the smallest possible file size
    - which displays images and text sharp on the screen
    - which also certainly remain transparent parts of .psd-files after exporting
    - that is flattened for easy print
    The problem?
    ▪ How and with which of settings can I export such a file from InDesign 5.0?
    ▪ If necessary in combination with some settings (after exporting) in our Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro?
    Further explanation
The export file contains lots of text, graphics, photographs and drawings. Many of these items are .psd-files that contain transparent areas. The intention is that this transparent parts actually remain transparent even after exporting/flattening /decreasing the PDF.
    ▪ With InDesign 5.0?
→ In the window Export Adobe PDF: (images see: http://www.logicontrol.be/gallery/documents/help-eng.pdf )
Should I start from a default PDF preset   (if yes > which one??)
    Possibilities are: High Quality Print / PDFX-1a: 2001 / PDFX-3:2002 / PDFX-4:2007 / Press Quality / Smallest File Size
Or is it better to create a PDF preset on my own?     (if yes > which settings??)
    Standard > PDF/X-format?
    Compatibility > PDF-version?
Compression > If artwork should be compressed and downsampled, and if so,
which method and settings to I have to use ?

Advanced > How can I control fonts, OPI specifications, transparency flattening, and JDF instructions are

    ▪ With Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro?
→ How can I reduce the file size extra, so more reducing after exporting into PDF ?
→ How can I flatten the exported file (if not done during the export) ?
!! Important, when I export/reduce/flatten the file, I ‘dd like that the parts of images who were transparent before, stays also transparent after !!
    WHAT CAN I DO ??

    Hello,
I'm sorry you're having trouble. Unfortunately, this forum is for the ExportPDF service of Acrobat.com. The ExportPDF service functions as a PDF to *.docx file convertion and we can't help with problems specific to the desktop version of Acrobat or InDesign.  I'm happy to point you in the right direction.

  • How can I export 1080i in best possible quality for internet streaming?

Sorry, I'm not too knowledgeable about this but I have Final Cut 6.0.4 and use/captured in HD-1080i. What's the best possible way to export this in great quality for internet streaming? What dimensions should I use? Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you!

ok i used h.264 main profile with 10 mbps and i am using multipass and size is 1280x720. i tried 24 and 30 key frames. quality is still lower
iv been experimenting on a 1.5 minute video to save time.  I imported the project from imovie into fcpx and changed nothing.  looking at the file that was created by imovie for the same video it is 1280x720 and uses codecs h.264 and aac the file size is 115 mb the extension is .mov and the color profile is HD (1-1-1) and total bitrate is 10,512 kbps. and the quality is the minimum acceptable for me.
The file i created using your settings above in compressor 4 is 118 mb and of lower quality. codecs used are h.264, aac, and Hint (not sure what hint is but noticed it isn't used with the .mov file) color prile is the same as above. total bitrate is 10,405 kbps.
Im not arguing that compressor 4 should be able to surpass imovie but so far i have only been able to do it by making the file size rediculous (>50 gb for 30 minutes).  I created a movie that was recorded with the same camera (25 mbps) 1080p 1920x1080. imovie made this 40 minute video just under 3 gb and with the same quality as the movie i am experimenting with.
There is a differnce between theory and practice. SO FAR THE RESULTS I AM SEEING IS THAT IMOVIE IS SUPERIOR IN QUALITY TO SIZE RATIO. imovie has very few options but the hd setting has surpassed what i have been able to do with fcpx.
i am willing to try any settings that anyone sugests.
personally i think i will try to export the movie at max quality then take the super large file to my windows laptop and convert to avi.  as in the past i have had much success with that format using divx. i realize that that is not the best method but i don't really want to spend hours re editing this video with imovie since the source footage is about 10 hours.
Thanks for trying still_learning but i am afraid you are still learning.

  • How can I batch replace audio in .avi files without re-encoding?

I have hundreds of .avi files that have two audio channels. One channel contains the audio from the original video footage, and the other channel contains speech-shaped noise that was added later.
I need to replace the speech-shaped noise with a different type of noise (multi-talker babble) without re-encoding the video and degrading its quality. I would like to be able to do this in a batch process if possible. Do any of you have an idea about how to approach this in Premiere Pro?
Some more details: each .avi file is about 2-3 seconds long, so I would need the replacement noise to be the same length as the original noise.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Using -replace:

  • Converting xvid avi files for premiere pro 5.5 properly?

I am using Premiere Pro 5.5 for the first time.  I have footage from an older Flip camera with the following specs that I need to convert.  I have MPEG Streamclip to convert the files.
What format should I convert them to?  What settings in streamclip should I use?  Should I keep them as AVI files or convert to mp4 or mpeg or something else?  I don't have the fastest computer setup or a ton of storage space to work with, but would like to have the right format for my imports so that I don't have problems editing.  Thanks for the help.
    Source footage:
    File type: .avi
Format: XVid (Perian), 640x480, Millions Microsoft ADPCM, Mono, 44.100 KHz
    FPS: 30
    Data Rate: 7,760.50 KBit/S
    Size: 640x480 pixels (actual)
    Working with:
    -Premiere Pro CS5.5
-MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 duo, 4GB ram, OSX 10.6.8
-1 TB external hard drive to store footage and projects

premiere should be able to use the installed xvid codec software to read the files. some xvid files will report they are mp4 files, so sometimes it possible to play them back using quicktime or another mp4 video player without xvid installed at all. if they playback choppy in premiere and export improperly, then you may want to try uninstalling the xvid and see if they behave any better. can also see if installing an older or new version of xvid works any better.  i use a windows computer, so while it should work the same, i dont know for certain...
xvid and mp4 are heavily compressed, which means it takes more computing power to play them back and edit. prores will make larger files, that aren't so compressed, therefore will be easier on a computer to read and edit with.

  • Converting .avi files for use in iDVD

I have multiple .avi files that I'd like to add to a DVD using iDVD. These files are in their original format at 30 kb/sec and not compressed at all so they are HUGE...totaling almost 20G.
What is the best way to convert these files so that they can be imported into iDVD and fit on a single DVD. The files would be about an hour and a half playing time so I am hoping that can be done. I realize quality may be compromised but I'm willing to lose a little bit.

Roxio Toast is your best option IMO but if you want to stay within the iApps then you'll first have to add the avi files to iMovie => iDvd. That or use a third part app likeMpegStreamclip (free download):
I suggest you do not exceed 120 mins playback for SL Dvd-R
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • How can I deny write access to datalog files for all but one process in LV8?

In LabVIEW 7.1, wiring the deny mode terminal of Open File.vi with a Deny Write Only enum constant was an effective means for ensuring that only one process could write to a datalog file at a time.  In LabVIEW 8.0, Open File.vi is no longer available and the new Open/Create/Replace Datalog vi does not provide a deny mode terminal.  Also, the new Deny Access vi does not support datalog files.  Furthermore, the Set Permissions vi is an unsatisfactory solution because under the Windows operating system, it simply sets the Read Only file attribute.  This is inadequate because I have demonstrated that it is still possible for two processes to open a datalog file with read/write access before either one has had a chance to set the Read Only file attribute in order to lock out the file.  If a process sets the Read Only file attribute first, then it can't open the file with read/write access for itself.
Does anyone understand the file mechanism by which deny mode used to work with the old Open File.vi?  I wish to restore the functionality I had in LV 7.1 in my LV 8 programs.
    Thanks!

    I appreciate the
empathy from Rolf, but I'm hoping that someone may have written one or
more vi's containing CINs that call Windows 2000/XP file access control
library routines.  At least I'm assuming that is how the deny mode
input to Open File.vi used to work in LV7.1.  The Microsoft
Developers Network on-line documentation on Access Control http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/secauthz/security/access_control.as... is
daunting to put it mildly.  But even if a set of CINs has not
already been coded, perhaps someone could point me to the specific set
of calls I need to make to absolutely guarantee that no two
clients can simultaneously open the same file with write privileges.   Unfortunately
the elimination of deny mode functionality for datalog files in
LV8 has sabotaged my commitment to a March 1 release date because it
would also be impractical to convert everything back to LV7.1 at
this point.   Sincere thanks to anyone who can help me out here!
    Unfortunately
the functionality you mention does not work in the way the deny mode in
the LabVIEW nodes works. Basically that deny mode is converted to an
according FILE_SHARE_READ/FILE_SHARE_WRITE value and passed to the
Win32 API CreateFile function. This is more or less the only place
where you can define a global share (or deny) access to a file. That is
also why the Deny Access node online help is talking about that the
    file is reopened.
But I just retried what you had tried to do, and low and behold it
works with wiring a datalog refnum to Deny Access. What is important
here however is that you do need to wire a datatype to the record type
input of the Open/Create/Replace Datalog node. Otherwise you can't
connect the resulting datalog refnum to any other file function, since
    it is an incomplete datatype.

  • Converting .avi files for use on ipad without using a laptop

Hi, I have a head cam (for use on the slopes and on my bike) that records .avi files to an sd card.  I was wanting to know before I buy the sd connector for the ipad if there is any easy way (I appreciate that there are some complicated ways) to convert then edit the video with a movie editor.  I was thinking about buying iMovie but I understand it doesn't recognise .avi files so would need to convert them beforehand - I don't intend to take my laptop though so need to do it all on the ipad - qu therefore is can it be done, in a simple straightforward way, with full knowledge that I am not a techie ?

Here is an article that will help you and has links to some software to help convert your wma files to a usable format.

  • How can I find out where the Library files currently used by iTunes are located?

I have had a bit of a nightmare sorting out my iTunes files so I have various versions of Library files all over the place. How can I tell where the Library file that iTunes is currently using is located? In Preferences I can see the Library "Name", but I don't think that is much help. Preferences also shows where my i-Tunes media folder is but not where the Library files are.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Ah, I was assuming you would search in Finder and display some details. All alternative approach is to Option start iTunes and click the Choose option. It should show a file selection box targeted at the folder of the currently active library.
