How can I export/share a project/movie with iMovie 10(.0.1)?

Hi,
I generate a movie with images from iPhoto and underlaid a sound file. In iMovie the film looks great and now I want to share/export it. But the share button doesn't work: I click on it and nothing happens – no submenu, no window, nothing. It seems there is missing a function behind the menu item.
I closed iMovie, restart it – nothing.
I shut down the Mac and reboot it – nothing.
I deleted the preferences after closing the app and restart it – nothing happens.
What can I do?
This happens with image movies AND with clip movies generated with iMovie.

I will uninstall the imovie app using the mackeeper uninstaller, but wanted to ask if I trash /delete all the files
when I do this? When it scans my computer it says I have two versions of imovie and other files as well.
Just wanted to check if I will still have my trailer left in my user file on the computer.
Sorry to bug you, but I spent alot of time doing it and dont want to lose the work . So want to be sure I am doing it the right way!

Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.

As long as the videos are in a format that can be used by iMovie, they will appear in your Event Browser, under 'iPhoto Videos.'

If you’ve imported video from your digital camera into iPhoto, it appears automatically in your iMovie Event Library (as long as the video is in a compatible format).
To use iPhoto video in iMovie:

The videos appear in the Event browser on the right. You can select and use the video just as you would any other footage.
To learn about importing video into iPhoto, open iPhoto and choose Help > iPhoto Help.

Try using VLC or installing both QuickTime 7 and Perian. Nothing will work with all AVIs; some of them require codecs not available for Mac OS X.

How can I export a finished project from iMovie when the "share" function will not respond?

Hopefully someone might have an answer for me. I am trying to export a finished project to You Tube. However, when trying to choose the file, it does not show up in the finished project list. I have gone back to iMovie to see if I've made a mistake with finalizing it. It seems to be finalized, but I cannot share it to anything (You Tube, Facebook, iTunes). I click on share and it does not respond. I click on File, scroll down to share, it does nothing. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you reslove it?

But I figured maybe there was some trace somewhere that had been copied over from the old system, so I deleted iMovie and went to reinstall it from the App Store.
Now the App Store wants $14.95 for an app that has never worked right, and which is (I think) supposed to be free with my new MacBook Pro Retina.

How can I export a large project to multiple DVD's

I am trying to export a project to a DVD. The .approject it creates is too big to fit onto one DVD. It is about 9GB. I have tried exporting it and then using right-click on the .approject to Show Package Contents. I then burned the the indvidual files in this to about 3 DVD's. How can I re-import this to another computer/ Aperture library? Can I simply read all the dvds into to a folder named ...approject and then try and import this?

There are other more hackish solutions but I'm going to point you to DropDMG which works great for your purpose, making backups to CD/DVD, making online backup segments, and optionally encrypting all the previous.
I'm not associated with the vendor, just a satisfied customer. You know you should also be making backups, so it's $20 well spent.

If you use "Share" and choose 540P, 720P or 1080P it will be mp4, withH264 codec. You just have to once figure out what spefic settings (for example bitrates) are used with the defaults from iMovie 13 (look-up the exported files with info in Quicktime), and wether they are ok with you.
In the former version I already used automator to achieve some specfic settings for my web-video's, now I think I don't need that anymore.
The only way around as far as I know is the usage of QTPro7 or compressor. Export as 1080P and open the file with one of those apps.

I would like to share my raw video footage-- "events" in iMovie-- with a colleague so she can use it for her own projects. At a one-to-one appointment last week, the trainer told me the only way to share it was to save it to an external hard drive. She said the hard drive would appear in the events window and then I could just drag the events onto the drive. I just bought a drive, plugged it in, and it appears in the events window, but iMovie won't let me drag the events onto it. I can't figure out a way to move the events over to the hard drive. I'm not using Time Machine because I only want to copy the video footage and my colleague uses a PC.

Update: I reformated the hard drive to be just for Mac, and I could drag the events over.
So is there a way to save the events to a hard drive formated for BOTH Macs and PCs?

There are a number of formats you can export from Premiere Elements. All are available under the Share tab and the major output formats are available under the Personal Computer option.
To export your completed video for use in another project, use the DV-AVI output option.

I just noticed that when I exported a folder of pictures and movies to a web page, only the pictures showed up. Is there a way I can use the export to web page feature and see my movies?

Are you using iWeb to create your web page? If so then the only options from within iPhoto for exporting are a photo page or blog page. You need to export only the photos and once in iWeb create a separate movie page and import that movie to that specific page via the Media button at the bottom.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. How can I export a surround sound movie file using compressor?

I want to create movie files using Motion and Soundtrack Pro that have surround sound. I can make ac3 surround sound files in SOundtrack Pro, I can add them to projects in Final Cut Pro, but I can't see any way to use Compressor to output the movie files with surround sound. The encoding results in plain stereo files. Please help.

HI Tony, you should be able to do this simply within the Compressor.app V4.1.x using the "surround Sound Group" and the shipped setting DOLBY DIGITAL setting. Instead of just adding a file, you need to:
Add a "Surround Sound Group" (control++i or file/add surround sound group or use the "+" plus sign at bottom left corner of Current/BATCH window". You'll get a pane with the channels you need to manipulate.
Click on the tracks Icons L to Rs and select the surround tracks as prompted and navigate through the finder interface. .. simple. WAV, BWF etc
Optionally Add the video object from here too.
Select the BATCH job (top layer with the ORBIT looking icon)) and use the INSPECTOR (right pane) to see what audio objects have been selected and verify location etc.. follow the dialogue (follow your nose)
Then Select the SETTING layer and use the default DOLBY DIGITAL setting and form the "settings/Create Blu Ray/Dolby Digital" and drag it over the batch job setting
Select this and adjust the LOCATION for the target distribution
Select the INSPECTOR AUDIO pane (right pane) and adjust any settings and EFFECTS to your taste.
select the cluster (if one is defined)
+B (submit) the job for the distribution or another master.
This will work fine.. pretty easy.. You'll need to work the audio settings as you like. If you get stuck, use the compressor.app V4.1 help.. its actually good.

Hi there and happy holidays! I have a LN52B750U1F 52 inch TV and for the first time ever want to play iTunes movies from my iPad on the TV. I tried reading the manual but it is all gibberish to me - I am a tech idiot. I plugged the USB into both of the USB ports on the TV from the iPad and the TV recognized the iPad and the pictures, but had No Contect for movies / video. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

You can not connect to the USB port on the TV. You need to purchase an AV cable or use a WiFi network and Apple TV to stream the content using AirPlay.

HT201060 how can i family share a physical cd with my family members rather than loading onto each device individually

I have just purchased another set of CD's from the store and want to load it to my iPhone through iTunes. I also wish for my family members to have access to these albums the same way as if I had purchased it through iTunes. Is this possible or must I load it onto each device individually. The main reason for me asking this is because I have a much larger memory on my phone (and also a much larger music collection) than my family members and it would be much easier to share my music this way rather than them constantly having to rip/delete their music to listen to new CD's (due to their limited memory constraints).

iPhoto shows you these Titles but the Finder shows you Filenames
If you export (File -> Export) you'll get the Export dialogue. Note the option at FileName to use the Title as filename for the exported photo

How can I export a slide from Keynote to iMovie HD?

I've tried to export a slide with animation into iMovie HD. The settings I'm using are 320x200, frame rate: 30 fps, Progressive, 16x9, Data Rate: Automatic. When I export and import into iMovie Hd the resolution is blurry and grainy.
I initially tried to build a title sequence in Keynote. The title sequense transitioned into a quicktime movie clip, transitioned into a title sequence. The audio portion worked to time but the video output was increased by :30 seconds and was out of sequence. I played with the settings and deleted the preference plist for iWork, but the timing never worked in Keynote.
The timing works in iMovie Hd, but I the titles are grainey and poor resolution.
Any thoughts?

The source is DV 16:9. I've adjusted the resolution to 360:202 and compressed with Sorenson to a QT 512 streaming clip. The resolution is very good and I don't have any issues with the video. I've imported the video clip into Keynote and assembled the title sequence. It looks good with no blurring or choppiness. The problem comes when I export. The timing goes off and the length of the entire video clip is increased. I've also had problems with Keynote when exporting. It seems to be inconsistent and will drop the last title, even though the preview worked fine. I've worked around the problem by importing the title slides with out the transitions and then going into Final Cut. I'd like to keep the title transitions that I had in Keynote . Any thoughts? How can I export a PDF photo portfolio with a clean cover page?

I have compiled a photo portfolio in Bridge and wish to have a clean cover page that does not have the contact info, copyright, etc., that exists on the photo pages. The cover page was created in Ps and imported into Bridge.
From what I can see, Bridge does not allow you to add info to certain pages, it's either none or all of them - which unfortunately includes the cover page.
Any thoughts? I do like how Bridge lays out the portfolio with size of image related to size of file.
