How can I keep a playlist on phone when syncing with new computer?

When syncing my IPhone I am prompted with an ominous message that says "Are you sure you want to remove the existing music ... from this phone and sync with this ITunes library? Music .... will be removed and items will be synced from this ITunes library" The answer is no because I have a playlist I would like to keep on the phone, but add one which resides on the computer I am attempting to sync with. That is not an choice presented, the choices are Cancel or Remove and Sync. Apple should either give more options or at least a better explanation. I have synced this phone and computer combination before but have since created a new playlist in the computer (a Mac Mini).
So how can I keep a playlist on the phone and add one from the computer too? Is it possible to view the phone as a drive and move items around in that manner? I use ITunes on both Windows and Mac platforms but this issue has always been problem for me. I also have IPhone 3 (used as an IPod), IPhone 4S and Iphone 5.

Unless you can get the iPod backup file (and restore the iPod from that file on your new computer) from the "dead" computer you will lose all the app data you can export via email.
- Yu can trabsfer iTnes purchases from the iPod by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- You can transfer non-itunes purchased music to the new computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion.
Best iPod to PC
- After you move the stuff to the new computer, either restore the iPod from the backup, or if no backup, restore to factory defaults, new iPod and sync.

My old computer has crashed. My new computer has my iphone account. How can I transfer my playlist from my ipod to my new computer?

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • How to retain chat/iMessage history when syncing with new computer?

For years, I have synced each new iPhone that I’ve purchased with an older MacPro.
Recently, I bought a new iMac to replace the MacPro.
I chose not to use Migration Assistant and have not transferred any of the data from the older MacPro to the newer iMac, primarily because I wanted to completely ignore all the AAC and mp3/mp4 (lossy) music files from the old computer and replace that music on the new iMac with Apple Lossless Encoded files ripped from my CD collection.
Meanwhile, I bought the new iPhone 6. I have never synced this new phone with the new iMac. Instead, I set it up using a backup of my iPhone 5S that was on the older MacPro (or possibly in iCoud—can’t remember). I did this because I want to preserve older texts/iMessages on my iPhone. It’s my impression that that data ‘lives’ in the backups of our phones, so syncing it with a brand new computer would erase it, right?
The problem is, I don't want to use the music files/playlists on the older MacPro. I want to load my iPhone 6 with the newer music files and playlists found in the iTunes folder on my new iMac while still retaining the text/iMessage history from previous backups. Is this possible? If so, how do I make this happen?
I do not use iTunes Match and want nothing to do with it, so that is not an acceptable solution for me.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

When syncing with a new computer, technically, all information on your iPhone 6 will be erased. If you really want to keep the chat history/imessage, call history or even contacts, I suggest you backup your iPhone 6 to iCloud before the sync. After sync your iPhone 6 with your new computer, you can try Dr.Fone for iOS to extract chat history/iMessages, even contacts and notes from the iCloud backup file and save them to your iPhone 6 again.

  • If I backup my iPhone to iCloud, can I restore it without losing data after syncing with new computer/iTunes?

The laptop my phone was synced to broke, so I had up get a new computer. I know that if I try to sync my iPhone 4 (running iOS 6) to the new iTunes on the new computer I'll lose my data. I have everything backed up to iCloud. Could I restore my iPhone after syncing with the new iTunes?

    yes

  • Switch to a new PC, but can't keep iPhone app folder organisation when sync with iTunes

I have just switched to a new PC. When I connected my iPhone to it, I have chosen to "Transfer Purchase" in iTunes. Then I go to sync for the apps. I got a msseage warning me that the apps on the iPhone will be replaced by those in the iTunes library. I didn't mind for that since I have already do the "Transfer Purchase" and I won't lose any apps for this step. But I thought it would not keep the folder organisation on my iPhone and I will need to manually group all apps again if I continue the process. I have nearly 300 apps. Are there any ways to keep all the folder organisations for this case of switching PC?

Thanks. But what I really want is to import the folder organisation from iPhone to iTunes. It is tedious to reorganise all my 300 apps again.

How can i keep separate playlists on linked devices so we can both listen to different music when not on a network or wifi?

    Hi Nancy,
If you keep the entire iTunes folder as it was and you're still using the same platform, you'll be able to keep all your playlist and metadata.

Just curious why when you have songs and playlilsts on the IPod it doesn't just sync with the computer? It only syncs from the computer to the IPod not visa versus.
Well, iTunes will only transfer content from the computer to your iPod. However, there's some ways to get around this. Read this carefully:
If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Some can also transfer your playlists, videos, ratings, podcast...

I'm not sure how it works on your iPad, but once the email has been downloaded onto my iPad, I can read them even in Airplane mode with WiFi disabled. I don't see the images that are in the emails, but I can read the messages. I have one POP account and three IMAP accounts and it works for all four accounts.

Then you will need to search for a 3rd party program to transfer content
    Pasted from another thread
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2234756?start=0&tstart=0
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump andiPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
    More information is contained here.

One is now obliged to send private information to an external server...

Who is the idiot that decided to drop manual syncing of contacts and calendars?
I am on the point of dropping all APPLE machines!
I am looking to sync without having to worry about security issues, keeping my files and passwords locally on my machines, and not an external server such as a cloud drive.
Do you know if Outlook syncs also over an external server?
