How can I keep Lightroom 5 from taking up space on my local hard drive?

I have a relatively large photo catalog (200k photos +) that I am in the process of paring down with the help of Lightroom 5. Along the way I have kept certain groups of photos published to Flickr using Smart Photosets so that if I eliminate a duplicate photo from the catalog I will be able to "re-publish" and eliminate that duplicate from the published collection.
My Catalog Files, My Backups, and the actual image files that are referenced in the catalog are all located on an external drive. I did this so that I could have everything on one drive for the time being while I eliminate a ton of photos from the catalog.
The issue that I am running into is that while a collection is being published to Flickr I get a message popping up telling me that I am low on disk space on my local (C) drive and that I need to free up some space. This is odd because everything is located on the external drive (catalog and image files) and I am publishing to Flickr.
I am just trying to figure out if there is a default somewhere that is causing Lightroom to create new thumbnails or previews somewhere on my C drive while I am publishing images to Flickr or something like that. Any idea what sort of data might be accumulating in the process here? And is there anyway to move it all or eliminate it for the time being while I am finishing the elimination of duplicate files from my catalog?

How can I keep my child from UNBLOCKING contacts or numbers I have blocked? I know in restrictions when you disable account changes at least on ios 6,this greyed out the iMessage button so the kids couldn't deactivate their text feature.

Here's the issue. Kids got themselves into some trouble on iPods. TeresaBoo, I empathize with your dilemma and have a similar problem. I'm trying desperately to keep my teenage daughter away from a controlling and abusive boyfriend. Of course, she is in denial and thinks it's love. Sure, I can block text messages through our wireless provider, but iMessages run on an independent network. I can block a phone number from iMessaging on her phone, but she can unblock it just as easily. I wish there was some way for parents to create a password to protect settings. IF it is opening in import mode:
Do you have an external drive or device (iPhone, USB key) plugged into iPhoto? If so, there are some photo files on it that make iPhoto think it has photos to import. Remove the device, delete the photos or move the photos to another folder on the device.
If it is not openeing in import mode, it must be in your startup items. Drag it from there.

Since SQL*PLUS runs on the client, you can use SQL*PLUS to spool data to your local drive.
You could also use the database to write a a specified drive where all users have access to (mapped network drive, e.g.). I wouldn't recommend doing it that way, but it is sometimes useful when the files are created in some nightly batch run.

Your drive was used with a PC and formatted NTFS which is proprietary Microsoft format.
You need to install a third party program that will read the NTFS format.
There is various software from PARAGON, Tuxera and NTFS-3G
When you get the data off and have verified it to be good, reformat the drive either HFS+ for Mac use only, or for Mac and PC use then MSDOS (FAT32) for under 4GB files (best) or exFAT (for larger than 4GB files) is proprietary and Microsoft is appling for a patent, which would likely mean OS X won't be allowed to read it anymore without a licensing fee and you'l have to pay another third party software company to read the format, just like NTFS is.
The less you have to rely upon third party sources to read your drives the better, this way if you have a issue and need to read the drive on another machine you don't need the software, and a internet connection and a credit card and...and...and...

Since you mention you used the external harddrive with your 'PC', I assume that it was NTFS formatted. By default Mac cannot write to NTFS only read it.
To make sure: go to. Disk Utility (while the drive is mounted), select the drive and look at 'Format'. That should tell you the format type of the drive.
If you are looking for third party solutions, try:

However, know that they are not supported by apple and won't be the best solution. The best cross platform solution would be to reformat the drive with exFat (you can do this through disk utility), just make sure you backup your data before doing this. Both Windows and Mac can write to exFat and it does not have file size limitations as Fat32.

Did you format the drive for Mac use before you tried to use it as a backup drive?
Are you using Time Machine on the drive? You can't view the contents of its backup database and the only way to access the info is directly from the Time Machine app.
