How can I save photos received in mail in iPhoto?

If I receive photos in "Mail", if I save them they go to my folder "Pictures". How can I save them to iPhoto?

What is your iPhoto version? With the most recent MacOS X 10.9.4 and iPhoto 9.5.1 you can select the attached photos in Mail, ctrl-click them, and use the command "Export to iPhoto". This will add them to your iPhoto Library in a new event.

Prior to updating to Lion, when viewing photo attachments within Apple Mail, I could do a quick preview of attached photo(s) within the email and click an iPhoto icon that would import the photos into iPhoto. Not sure if this helps or not. I recently installed Lion for my mother, and she couldn't figure out how to export photos in an email to iPhoto. Turns out she had to click on Details in the upper right corner of the email message. Then the Save and Quick Look buttons returned. If you click and hold on Save (possibly on the triangle on the right side of the button) there is an option to save to iPhoto.
I haven't upgraded to Lion myself yet so I can't answer your specific question regarding saving to iPhoto from the Quick Look preview.

If the photos that you are wanting to delete are also in your Camera Roll then you can delete them from the camera roll

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I'm not sure how you burned that CD but one way to get a PC compatible disk of the jpgs is the following:
1 - insert a blank CD in your drive and mount it on the desktop.
2 - select all of the files you want to transfer.
3 - go to the File->Export menu option.
4 - in the Export Photos pane click on File Export
5 - select full sized images and check the Use extension box.
6 - click on the Export button.
7 - in the navigation window that comes up navigate to the CD on the desktop and select it and click the OK button.
8 - when the export is complete check the files on the CD to make sure they are the full sized files (I got aliases one time so check before all burns).
9 - drag the CD to the Trash icon to burn the disk of photo.
This method create a universal format readable by both PCs and Macs. Good luck.

I am trying to save a photo I received as an attachement, using mac mail and I have done the right click and chosen export to iphoto but nothing happens. I've looked all through my iphoto pics, by import date, etc. and it isn't there. I also looked in photo stream, the photo isn't there. I've tried more than once. I am using OS 10.8.2 and iphoto 11.
I've also tried to save the photo and the process opens asking me where to save it, but iphoto is not one of the places I can choose.
I saw the suggestion to save it to my desktop and then try and move the photo into iphoto. But since I'm using mac mail and iphoto, it seems that it should be more straight forward to handle this process than having to use the desktop. Am I missing a step so it will go to iphoto when I right click on export to iphoto?
Any suggestions?

thank you for replay but i have been spoken to Samsung by phone and they refer to Apple so here I am and when I put usb cable between the mobile phone to my Mac Pro nothing happens can it be that I used to have a HTC mobile phone before? have pictures before by HTC and don´t remember how I did it but I think it came on by itself as you mention but not with samsung so what can I do? Photo Stream folder acts as if it has never been used. Yellow box shows directions on how to get started. Even though I have had it working successfully in the past, I tried each of the methods. No luck.
I have gone through the process of verifying that photo stream is turned on properly on all devices (iPhone 5, iPad (original), and iMac (2011). If I download from my camera, all pictures show up on iPhone and iPad, but not in Photo Stream folder on iMac iPhoto. The date after the title "Photo Stream" shows December 5, 2011. (That's probably when I started using this iMac).

Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Then check the iPhoto/Photo Stream preference pane to make sure the necessary checkboxes are checked.

How can I save photos to iPhoto direct from Photoshop Elements

Does anyone know how I can save a photo direct to iPhoto after editing in PSE? Currently I save to the desktop and then "import". Its a bit of a fiddly way espectially if you are editing a number of photos direct from iPhoto. It would be nice to save them back to the relevant Event or Album.

This may help:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.

2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window

that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 or later the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:

AppleTV2 does not support directly accessing media on network drives.
All media viewed must be via itunes.
If you can point iTunes to a folder on the network drive (Advanced>Choose Photos to Share) you maybe able to access them but only when itunes is running.

I have a hard drive that used to be used on a PC. It's format is MS-DOS (FAT32). I've been using it for the past year with my Mac with no issue (moving files onto it and off of it).
I have over 30,000 photos in iPhoto now and am noticing that it's quite slow and often gets the 'rainbow spinning wheel'.
I want to move most of my photos over to the hard drive, but I still want to be able to access them.
1. Do I need to reformat the hard drive?
2. Where do I locate the iPhoto files on the mac?

1. Yes you do, and you do it with Disk Utility. There are lots of videos and posts on this online. For instance:

Remember that formating a drive will erase it so make sure you back it up forst.
2. One you're sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

I would like to transfer photos to iphoto without iCloud synching. Last time I synched my iphone to my laptop icloud changed my .mail account setting and moved/added folders within .mail. It took me a very long time to figure out what happened. I do not wish to fool around in Terminal either.

Yes that is correct, thank you. I knew how to do that, I was concerned iCloud would would then do some mojo to my lap top. Apparently after syncing with iCloud once it's happy for a while.
