How can i sort photos by date taken, not date created?

I'd like this feature as well. I tend to browse my photos by date in Aperture, but on ios thay always appear in some bizzare random order.
I've tried several workarounds but with no luck. As metadata is present, surely this should be simple...

  • How can I sort photos by date taken in Photos for OS X

Photos sort by Moments, which seems badly broken - photos from one date and location end up in multiple moments, while one moment can have photos from multiple dates and locations.  Photos are not in date/time order.
Photos under Albums sort by date/time of import - useless.
How can I see my photos sorted by date/time taken?

How can I sort photos within an event? When I follow the Help instructions, I can sort manually in Photo format, but when I return to Event format, the original order is restored.

Events are organisation for those who can't really be bothered. They are automatic - based entirely on Date and Time the camera records the photos as taken.
You can move photos between Events, you can Merge Events, you can Rename them and sort them in various ways except one: You cannot manually sort in an Event as Events are all automated.
If you want to manually sort in an Event then you've outgrown Events as an organising tool. Now it's time to look at albums (Where you can manually sort) which are much more flexible than Events as an organising tool.

iPhoto:  How can I sort photos within an event.  I can't figure out how to activate the Manual Sort button.

Only albums can be sorted manually. Events can only be sorted automatically according to one of the predefined settings "Date, Keywords, Title, Rating".
If you need a manual sort order, selectaall photos in the event and create an album: File > New Album

  • How can I sort lines of data (alphabetically) in the new pages 5.0?

How can I sort lines of data (alphabetically) in the new pages 5.0?
It was very simple to do in the previou version of pages.

I'm not sure why people are torturing themselves with Pages 5 given the nearly universal outcry on this forum and the incredibly negative reviews elswhere, such as the App Store.
Pages 4.3 should still be in an iWorks folder within your Applications folder.  Just use that.

  • How can I sort photos by file name in Photos?

New Photos seems to be very limiting, even compared to iPhoto.  How can I sort photos by filename?  Many photos that worked in iPhoto, can't be viewed in Photos.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Titles don't use the filename any longer, but if you must have them you might be interested in Léonie's script here.

  • How can I sort photos by file name on my IPAD?

I have sorted all my photos by filename (on a windows PC). After downloading the photos to my IPAD they are sorted by shooting date. This is for sure not what I wanted. Does anybody know how I can solve this (sort my photos on filename!)? Thanks.

    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221 :
If you are using Windows, or are not using iPhoto or Aperture on Mac OS X, you must change the Date Taken of photos to change their sorting on your device. Third-party photo-management software may be able to do this.

  • Can't sort photos in order TAKEN in Finder

I hope some of you super smart MacBook Pro users will be able to help me...
I just made the switch from a windows laptop to a Macbook Pro, and while I am very happy with my decision, I am still working on that learning curve.
I am a photographer who uses Adobe Bridge to cull photos (by giving them star ratings) and Adobe Photoshop to process. I recently shot a wedding using two different cameras simultaneously.  I synced the time on the cameras prior to starting the shoot so that the photos of the entire day would be sorted in time order when saving them and burning them onto a disc.
I used three memory cards throughout the day and processed all of the photos off one card before moving on to the next, so the photos were not processed in chronological order. I shoot in RAW and run batches that save the final photo as JPEG.
I would like to burn these files to a disc in chronological order. I have created a folder in Finder where all of the photos are located. I am unable to sort the files by DATE TAKEN. There is an option for DATE CREATED, but the date it shows is the date the JPEG file was created, not the date the photo was taken. When I click on a file and look at its file info, the DATE TAKEN is not shown, just this same date that the JPEG file was created. However, when I look in Photoshop at the file info, the DATE CREATED is indeed the actual time that the photo was snapped during the wedding.
Does anyone know how I can get this information into Finder? Is there another "Explorer" type software I should be using to make this work? Is there a better way to burn files to disc than using Finder?

I only have iPhoto but I have imported two different sd cards into iphoto and then merged the events into one event and iPhoto arranged them in cronological order even though the raw file names were different. then I exported the event to a file and burned them. if you have the sd cards with the original photos maybe this will work for you

  • How can I sort pictures by date and than by time stamp ?

The approx. 2.000 pictures was taken by two cameras.
Both cameras intern date and time where adjusted before the for session.
It seems that Aperture 3.3.1 can´t manage it, can it?
In the browser there is only one common field for date and time.
I shoot the picture with two Canon 5D Mark II and Mark-III in JPG and RAW mode.
The file name only is totally confusing for sorting.
    Like IMG_0008, _MG_0022 for Mark-II
    and
    _L2A8410 for Mark-III.

    Hi,
I am not sure, which sort order you want to achieve? If you sort by the date field, the images will be sorted chronologically, ascending or descending, according to date and time - isn't what what you want?
Can it be that you have a time zone problem? Compare the dates on the images that should be sorted side by side.
Unless you specify "Camera Time" and "Actual Time" on import, Aperture will assume that the camera time has been your current system time.
Canon 5D Mark II and Mark-III
And unfortunately, both your cameras are exactly the two cameras that I know, where the time zone correction in Aperture is buggy and does not have much effect. I cannot find the discussion again right now, but look for a thread by Frank Caggiano on time zone correction.

  • How can I delete photos from iPad but not iCloud?

Before setting up iCloud, my girlfriend downloaded photos from her camera to her iPad.  We now have iCloud set up, but the photos on her iPad remain in the "Photos" album instead of Photo Stream.  I would like to delete the photos from the iPad to free up storage space, and move them to the Macbook.  I'm guessing that I would need to somehow move them to Photo Stream then delete the old album where they were stored on the iPad...  Any ideas?

  • How can I sort photos into albums on my iPad and then export them to my iMac?

I want to import photos from my camera card into my iPad, sort them into various albums then export the albums to my iMac. I have 12 albums in Photos with around 300 photos on my iPad, but when I connect it to my iMac iPhoto tries to import all of the 1800 photos without the album structure. How do I transfer the albums and the 300 photos in them to my iMac?

Yes, but the recipient may not be getting the full image file that was used to make the Shared Photo Stream. You would have to run a test to see if there's any reduction in the image and file size. The following is from iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
What resolution are the photos in shared photo streams?
Shared Photo Streams deliver photos in a device-optimized resolution that speeds upload and downloads and saves storage space. While actual dimensions will vary, an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard point-and-shoot camera will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.

  • How can I sort photos on iPads, I have several models and the order is different on every one.

We use iPads as photo albums. I have several model iPads and the photo order is different on Avery one. How do I get them to sort in the order I want, preferably alphabetically.

It's a lot easier to use 3rd party apps like Photo Manager Pro. You just tap "Edit" and drag the photos around.

  • How can I sort Photos sandomly in a iPhoto Slideshow? The option to shuffle photos is darkened.

So I am trying to randomly sort my photos in a slideshow that I have created, and iPhoto does not give me the option to randomly sort my photos. I tried playing the slideshow, and then select the settings, which brought up the option to "shuffle slide order" but it will not allow me to select it. It appears that the box may be slightly darkened. I dont understand why it will not let me select it, or if there is some other way to randomly order photos. Thanks.

The only way to get a slideshow sorted randomly is to start with an album and use the Play button at the bottom of the window.  Click on the screen to bring up the Settings pane where you can select Shuffle slide order:
If you check User settings as default it will lock those settings to the album you're using.  If you empty the album and add new photos the settings will still apply.

  • How can I sort photos from two users into one

I have two users on my Mac and I am trying to get all my photos onto my new External hard drive.  I want one user, one photo library stored on my external hard drive.  Help!

If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
