How can I stop Address Book (Lion) from printing an extra blank page when I print an envelope

Whenever I print a mailing envelope in Lion's Address Book, it prints fine but then prints a blank page following. How can I stop this?

HP printers for years have had a problem printing an extra envelope from the Apple Addressbook Application with the # 10 envelope.
Solution: Select a #9 envelop. This prints about the same size and does not have an extra envelop.
How to: From Address book, select print, Style: Envelopes, Layout: Layout pulldown Official 9 then print
Interestingly the two smaller and two larger sizes only print one envelope. You can test this by clicking pdf and open pdf in preview.
Over the years I have called HP and they couldn't solve the problem.
I have told Apple today when I figures out the workaround.

Boot from the older version of OSX, then in AB use the File>Export>Export vCard after selecting all in AB.
Then boot from the new OSx & use the new AB to import that VCF file.

Are you sure you did that right ... because I did a File/Backup Address Book, and the file named included the date. I then copied the file through our Airport network from the Powerbook to a new iMac. The opening Address Book on the iMac, I did a File/Revert to Address Book Backup, which allows you to choose the file. Now the iMac had the same Address Book file as the Powerbook. This looks to me to be the same thing you are trying to do.

Exporting vCards from Address Book partially preserves group information - it puts it in the notes field as Categories, which is not very useful. I suggest you export one group at a time. I don't think you can import directly into a group, so create a group, import the cards for that group, then select all the cards in the "Last Import" pseudo-group and drag them to the appropriate group.
If some of your contacts are in multiple groups the duplicates will be spotted on import. Unless you have hundreds of groups it should not be to much of a pain. Otherwise look at Gwenhiver.net - Applications - Address Book Exporter - it may preserve groups on re-import (but I don't know).

Just got a macbook, and migrated all the info as per instructions. Now I need to get all the info from my old address book to the new one. Spent about 6 hours today trying to figure this out, and an hour of that was spent on the phone with a friendly but clueless customer service rep. Managed to get all the vcards transferred, but no group info. Since this is for my business, I need to get this taken care of ASAP--- help, anyone? Thanks!!!

How can I stop the swf file from repeating on different web pages

I have my entire website built and am using a flash
navigation bar that also has a movie presentation attached to it. I
uploaded it to every page in my site because it is required for
navigation. My problem is that the movie plays every time you
switch to a different page, I only want it to play once on the home
page, and then just have the flash navigation work on the rest of
them. I know that there is a way to use cookies to tell the
computers IP address that is viewing the site not to replay the
movie if it has already played within the specified time frame. But
I am not very good with actually inputting code into flash, I am
new to it. I have seen sample code on another website but I think
it was referring to the wrong flash version, and it did not specify
exactly where to put it in. Please help!

Well I am actually using a template. And the flash video that
was created is way beyond my ability. So I tried initially to
separate the two, the intro video, and the navigation. But they are
intertwined in a way that I do not understand. I do need to do the
variable thing. I took a flash class in school, and my book does
not touch anywhere close to this. I know its probably too
complicated to explain through a forum, but can you recommend any
resources online or books that would go more in depth with this
sort if thing. If I can just see the way it works on another site,
I know that I can do on mine.

I like to keep messages as new until I can take action on them, but this just makes an unnecessary step. I do not have this problem on my iPhone, but I am still running 5.0.1 on the phone and have the new iPad 5.1 software.

You can also use Command-Shift-U to toggle a message between Read and Unread (command should be the same in Mavericks):

You can also close the Preview portion of the Mail window, which should then require you to double-click on a message to open it and have it show as read (it appears the double click on the seperator may no longer work in Mavericks, but you should still be able to drag it to make it disappear):

How can I import address book from thunderbird on another computer

I just purchased a new laptop and have dowloaded Thunderbird for my e-mail as that was what I was using on desktop. I have 2 e-mail accounts, my personal e-mail addresses came thru with no difficulty however my other account the contacts in address book didn't come thru. So question is how can I get address book imported for this account too. My desktop is Windows XP and my laptop is Windows 8

The neat thing to do would be to copy the profile from the XP machine to the W8 machine. This would have transferred your messages, your account settings and your Address Book and much else.
Given that you have set up Thunderbird and have started using it, copying over the profile may not now be terribly attractive for you.
So, instead, you can export and import your Address Books.
On the XP computer, open the Address Book, select an address book (e.g. Personal Address Book), select '''Tools|Export''', select the name and location of a file to contain the exported data, choose LDIF and then Save. Repeat for each required address book. Give your LDIF files simple but meaningful names, such as PAB.ldif and CA.ldif. Don't use, for instance, ''Personal Address Book.ldif'', as this will create a second address book with the same name as one of the defaults and you won't be able to easily tell which is which.
Put the exported LDIF files where the W8 computer can see them, e.g. a USB memory stick.
On the W8 machine, open the address book, Tools|Import and select an exported LDIF file. It will import and create a new address book; you'll probably want to move the Contact data back to the usual address book. You can select all (ctrl+a) then drag-and-drop the imported Contacts to the preferred address book. Repeat for each LDIF file.
Having said that, I don't understand what you mean by "my personal e-mail addresses came thru with no difficulty however my other account the contacts in address book didn't come thru"; unless you have moved the profile folder over, I don't understand why ''any'' contacts should have transferred.
If you have in fact moved the profile folder, then I'm puzzled as to why the transfer of address books has been incomplete. However the export and import route should be able to reclaim the missing address book(s).

I have a user who wants to do this same thing. I did not find any way either to default the attributes to anything other than what you see the first time. Seems like such a trivial thing, hard to believe they do not allow it. I did find a program for this called iDress but I can't seem to download it from any links on the Internet. There are multiple ways to configure the proxy settings on a Mac it sounds like your trying to do it manually. All the places I have been that have used a proxy server have used the "Auto Proxy Discovery" method and this has worked fine. This will work fine for multiple user accounts on multiple Macs.
For those unaware "Auto Proxy Discovery" uses WPAD (Windows Proxy Auto-Discovery) protocol. This means it either 'learns' the address to download a PAC file from via DHCP option code 252 (preferred), or if it cannot get that address via DHCP it tries using the DNS method.
All the Mac web-browsers use the proxy settings learned via System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Proxies however some other software particularly command-line tools may need configuring individually. For example curl needs to be told separately.

But in terms of my initial query; thanks for responding. But no, this is NOT the cause of the problem. I have auto sync and sync over wifi activated, but have also selected manually manage music and videos. Plus, all of my music and videos are on my macbook, absolutely all of it, so if it my phone was syncing with my macbook everything would still be on the phone. Life would be peachy if my phone jsut copied everything that was on my macbook, but unfortuantely it keeps deleting tracks for no apparent reason.
Any thoughts greatly welcomed, because at the moment i can only conclude that my iphone is crap.

just back up your whole computer and those things will be backed up along with everything else. Time Machine is not well suited for cherrypicking just a few things to back up and it's a bad idea anyway. if you insist on backing up just those two things back up homedirectory/library/application support/address book and homdirectory/library/calendars.

As long as you share that AppleID for iCloud, you cannot. You are sharing a a single iCloud account and sync services. The only thing you can do is get a second AppleID and use it with iCloud - you do not have to use that new AppleID for anything but iCloud (ie. you can still share an AppleID for iTunes and App store purchases).
P.S. I am assuming you both want to sync your contacts with iCloud?
