How can i upgrade my Mac os x v10.6.8 to v10.7

i need the mac os x v10.7 to install an application that i want however the version i have, 10.6.8, says that it is the most updated version.

Call 1-800-676-2775 to purchase a download code for the Mac App Store.
Read this link for applications that do not work under Lion.  http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Make a VERY GOOD backup before going to Lion.  You may need to go back to re-start the upgrade or just because you do not like it.

  • How can I upgrade my Mac Pro

    Hello,
I have a Mac Pro. Here are the specs :
    Mac OS X 10.5.8
    MacPro1,1
    NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
When OS 10.6 came out, I found out that I couldn't upgrade to it because of my graphic card. In the technical specifications it is mentioned that :
    OpenCL
requires one of the following graphics cards or graphics processors:
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, GeForce 9600M GT, GeForce 8600M GT, GeForce GT 120, GeForce GT 130, GeForce GTX 285, GeForce 8800 GT, GeForce 8800 GS, Quadro FX 4800, Quadro FX5600
    ATI Radeon 4850, Radeon 4870
Now, OS 10.5.8 is becoming more and more outdated. I would like to know how can I upgrade my Mac Pro ? What kind of graphic card can I put in ?
Thank you for any help and/or information !

It's been a while since I've used it but I installed Snow Leopard on my old Mac Pro 1,1 with the 7300GT and it worked. OpenCL may not have but the rest of it did. I don't think what you've quoted says you can't upgrade but only that an upgrade won't deliver all of the features in Snow Leopard. Indeed, I was able to move the HD in the 1,1 Mac Pro into the 5,1 Mac Pro, boot from it (10.6.4 is the minimum the 2010 Mac Pro will boot with), clone it and then updated it.

You need a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, an external optical drive such as Apple's SuperDrive, and the 10.6.8 combo updater. You don't need to buy Mac OS X 10.7 or 10.8.

I keep getting my browser is no longer supported. how can I upgrade from mac os x 10.6.8 . Any help would be appreciated

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard you do not need leopard.
    Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.

  • HT1338 How can I upgrade my Mac OS X 10.5.8? I can not perform a software update

I am trying to update my software to a OS X Mountain lion but can not.

    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
If you need to purchase Lion call 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. Ask for a Sales Representative. They will check your Apple ID, and email you a code and instructions.  The cost is $29.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)

  • How can I upgrade my Mac OS 9.0.4 to Mac OS 9.1?

I recently needed to run an old program on my G4 tower which is running 10.4.11. But whenever I try to run it, the computer (which I call Titania -- from Midsummer Night's Dream) tells me that I need 9.1. I thought I had upgraded to 9.1 before I started on the OS X series, but maybe I didn't. Is it an upgrade from 9.0.4? Do I need to buy it or can I just do a software update?
And if I just do a software update, can someone please tell me how to do that. I haven't used OS 9 in a while and I've slept since then, so there's no way I remember. Can someone tell me the first step. And maybe even the second one.
Also, I've had nothing but trouble since I updated poor old Titania to 10.4.11. She's been a little cranky ever since. Is there any way to downgrade in OS X? If so, does anyone know how to do that?
Thanks in advance for any help on this.
    Sincerely,
    Titania's Mom

From what I have heard downgrading from 10.4 to 10.3 won't make much of a difference in terms of demands on the computer and you will lose compatibility with many programs. Downgrading even further will really get you into the realm of having problems with newer software, and going below 10.2 isn't advisable even if it may be what was originally supplied with the computer.
We don't know much about your computer. Getting a RAM boost is a relatively inexpensive shot in the arm for some computers.

Finally, how much space do you have left on your hard drive? OSX needs for you to leave at least 15% free at all times, the more the better. If you start crowding it it will get cranky and too much it will throw a tantrum (crash your computer).

  • How can I upgrade my Mac OS X 10.5?

I'm not able to find an upgrade for my MacBook Mac OS X 10.5.8, Can anyone help?

10.5.8 is the max for Leopard.
SL is the next step, a new OSX that you must buy.  It requires Intel processor and 1 GB RAM, though more RAM is always better.
Lion requires Core2Duo processor and 2 GB RAM, though more RAM is better.
Both SL and Lion can be purchased through 1-800-MY-APPLE.  SL is $19, and will allow updates (not paid upgrades) to 10.6.8 which gets you the App Store.  Lion download codes for the App Store cost $19.
Not that Lion does not run PPC (Power PC) applications, of which you may have many.
First see how far you can upgrade -- report back on your processor and RAM.

  • How can I upgrade my Mac G5's boot drive?

    Hi,
I have a PowerMac G5 running 10.5.8... and just bought a new internal 1TB SATA I would like use as my new boot drive.
What's the most simple method to do so?
I have a copy of Data Rescue 3 that has a "clone" feature -- which I tried. It worked, but the new drive's system partition map is reduced to the size of the old (smaller) drive. I used Disk Utility to try to increase the volume scheme up to the new capacity, but it gives me an error saying "MediaKit reports partition (map) to small." and won't increase the size.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Carl

I have no idea what you've done with Data Rescue, but it isn't a system clone. Here's what you need to do:
    A. Prep the new drive:
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    B. Repair the Old Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    C. Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    2. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    3. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    4. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    5. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new hard drive.
Source means the old boot drive.
Last, use Startup Disk preferences to select the new drive as the permanent startup drive, then click on the Restart button.

hi i m using macbook pro v10.6.8  its too slow i just wanna format it and dont know how to format it so please help me to format it as soon as posibble please

    Hi m,
    1. Boot from install disc (press power button, immediately insert install disc and hold down c key).
    2. Select your language.
    3. Open Disk Utility from Utilities menu.
    4. Select the HD in the left pane (the manufacturer’s name and the HD model number).
    5. Click on the Erase tab.
    6. Choose the Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
NOTE: if you want to zero the HD (which I always think is a good idea, but does take time), click on Security Options, click the button for Zero Out Data, click OK. The larger the HD, the longer this will take, in some cases several hours.
    7. Click on Erase and wait for the entire process to finish.
    8. Click the Partition tab.
    9. Click on Volume Scheme and choose the number of partitions (normally just one unless you have other plans).
    10. Click on the Options button (located underneath the Volume Scheme pane) and select GUID.
    11. Click Apply.
    12. Quit Disk Utility and continue with the installation process to install OS X; when finished, restart, repair permissions, run updates (in Apple Menu > Software Update), and repair permissions again.
