How can you tell if your podcast is streaming or if you're playing from a download?

Yesterday I downloaded a podcast with the new Podcasts app on my iPhone. To play the podcast (while away from my WiFi), I tapped the episode in the Episodes list. I assumed I was playing the downloaded version. This morning, when I checked my data usage, it was 87MB more than it was yesterday! Does this mean that I inadvertently STREAMED the podcast instead? How can you tell?

I have a utility that I'm working on where objects are sent via the network as a complete file. I read the objects, update some, and send them back. I never know how many objects are in the file. I cache the file locally prior to performing this operation. It runs in a chron job.
Currently I am reading until I get an EOF exception. Is there a better way? I've tried available() but it is always returning me zero.

boundaries of the custom data written by the
corresponding writeObject method will cause an
OptionalDataException to be thrown with an eof field
value of true.
Hope this helpsThis doesn't help at all. It refers to what happens while you are reading a single object, not to what happens when you try to read a new object. You will not get this exception between objects.
If as I suspect you are reading from a socket you really have no choice but to try the read, maybe with a timeout. EOF is the only condition that can reliably indicate that there are no more objects in this stream.

User's (me) tech background:
Fairly technical user here, but getting pretty rusty. In a past life (late '90s) I was a network administrator as well as server admins for NT 4, Novell (up to 4.11), AIX, and HP-UX servers. Used to be really good at a command prompt ($ or #) in AIX and HP-UX as well as MS DOS. I do have ROOT enabled on my Macs and I am not afraid to use it. However, I know how severe the consequences can be (trashed a customer's AIX server once using a -R switch in the root directory), so I am extremely cautious and must be confident of the instruction. Can probably fix most anything with some guidance........
Here is the problem........ I have recently developed an error on boot, say within the last couple of weeks, where it tells me that some Vista application won't run because VM Ware will not initialize. The problem is VM Ware is not loaded on this computer (15" MBP model 8.2, i7 processor, 16MB of RAM, OS 10.7.4........ bought as a "refurb", never had a problem, have used this workstation for several months now). Boot Camp is not configured on this machine either. Nothing is in the Dock that would knowingly trigger this. When I go into System Information, I find nothing set as a "Startup Item" (screen shot attached) , making me think that I am looking in the wrong place. Where should I be looking?
Interesting enough, when I go to System Information, and look under "Applications", I do see a lot of Vista items, including apps from an older MBP that I do not connect to (on same network, they have "rights" to connect, I just never do as there is nothing on there I need). I have attached a screen shot of this as well.
Please, someone, can you give me some advice here?

Why did it happen "suddenly"?
Can I go into System Info/Applications and delete any Vista or VM Ware apps?
If I cannot do this via "System Info" can I remove (rm OR mv) the files from whichever system directory stores this data?
This is puzzling and quite concerning. I would be deeply grateful if there is a "Yoda" out there that knows how to fix this.......

Managing your data usage is very important Bag02231958. I would like to thank ttipgem for the great suggestion to see what is using data on your phone. However, when you access the internet, social media apps, stream data, videos, music, etc. that uses data on your phone. Unfortunately, we do not have a list of what specifically is being accessed on the device to incur data. If you have the HP Keyboard software installed, you are supposed to get an on screen display that pops up in the lower left corner of your screen showing you when numlock, caplock are enabled. If you don't get that, you can try reinstalling the keyboard software using HP recovery manager (just the keyboard software - do not do a system recovery!)

If you turn on the Kind column your purchases will read Purchased AAC audio file or Protected AAC audio file.
BTW I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this thread for background.

You are - Client is installed in Base OSX, it's the Admin that's a seperate App.
To activate the client you need to turn on Remote Managemnet in Control Panels -> Sharing -> Remote Management.

Other than updating Java, there is no perfect way to detect an attack.
You may not have Java installed after all. You can check it.
Finder > Application > Utilities > Java Preferences
Click "Java Preferences".
If a pop-up opens up offering to "Install", Mac does not have Java installed.
Click "Not Now" button and close the Application folder.
Safari > Preferences > Security > Web content:
If the box next to "Enable Java" is checked, uncheck it.
