How come I need Adobe Flash Player for Safari

I have the latest Macbook Pro and I guess the latest version of Safari.  So why doesn't a current version of Safari play videos on the internet? Why must I download Adobe Flash Player to watch videos on the interne? I can watch a few videos on Youtube, but most of the time I need to switch over to Google Chrome to watch.  I don't need Flash Player with that browser. Can't understand why Safari needs it and Chrome doesn't.

I am switching between Safari to Chrome so I can watch videos but it's becoming a pain. But I've also noticed that some websites have a different look in Chrome. It's as if Chrome is better than Safari. What a bummer. Apple would do itself a favor to offer the best browser since, to me, Apple is the best computer.
I guess I will just have to give in and download Flash if I want to use Safari. The reason I'm reluctant is because on my previous MacBook I always got prompted to download the 'latest Flash player" even though I had the latest Flash. It was such a nuisance. Was hoping with my latest purchase of this computer I'd be all up to date.
Thank you all for your replies.

    Hello Walter,
that's it, usually you get and Adobe Flash Player Installer only.  For a distribution in a company, or an installation on a PC without internet access, Adobe has available an offline installer. This installer you don't need to uncompress it first. You can download the installation file from there (you must logged in with your Adobe ID): http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

And yet the most common asked for feature is adobe flash.
just compare the posts on this forum alone, can you find a more asked for feature?
You guys been claiming the death of flash since 2007. Yet today Google and Microsoft both are baking it into their browser.
This site was created less than a year ago, http://www.pottermore.com/ by one of the wealthiest people on the planet, and it uses Flash, what is your excuse for them not using something else? Is she stupid? can't afford it? I'd say it's because it's the best platform for the job.
You will also need Adobe® Flash Player 10+ if you want to experience everything that Pottermore has to offer.

Adobe Flash is pretty much a 32-bit application. You may be able to fix the problem by going into your Applications folder, and right-clicking on Safari. There is a check box that will allow you to run Safari in 32-bit mode. Try that and see if Flash works in Safari.
I have retired my iMac, and have an HP now, but a friend helped me with the same problem when I upgraded to Snow Leopard. My PC seems to have just one 64-bit browser, that being Internet Explorer. I am using IE9 Beta in 64-bit, and the Beta for Flash "Square" in 64-bit seems to work fine. See link below:

Puffin worked for me. I was trying to video stream a website and kept informing me I needed to install Adobe Flash Player 10 for it to work.  Once I tried Puffin, the video was able to start playing   YEAH!!!
I am glad I found this thread and tried some of the suggestions..... otherwise I would be spending more months trying to figure it out lol.

    Hi..
    Select  10.4 / 10.5 here >  http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
And keep in mind, if you are using Safari, the highest version you can go on the iBookG4 for Safari is 4.1.3

  • Do I need Adobe Flash Player for Android?

I'm a little unclear about whether I need the product called Adobe Flash Player in order to view Flash content in FF Android, or if Flash support is built into the browser. My device came with Flash Player installed in ROM, but updates go to RAM and can't be moved to SD storage. Right now version 11.1 it's the largest app on my phone. I'm trying to determine whether I can remove it or not. IE if I uninstall Flash Player, will FF still play Flash content, or does it rely on Adobe's app for this functionality? Thanks.

Thanks @Tylerdowner. That's what I thought, but not what I hoped. Thanks for the additional info too, @cor-el. I'd already seen that, which is what prompted me to look into this. I'd been thinking of uninstalling Flash Player just to see if FF would stop working, figuring I could always reinstall it if need be. But it seems this is no longer the case.

Says Apple does not support Adobe Flash Player?

    tomplunkett wrote:
Uh, No Adobe is NOT terminating Flash. They are leaving it up to the manufacturer to include the mobile flash player on their FUTURE devices.
So devices like the xoom, the playbook, the galaxy tab that all have flash today, will always have flash. ........ Adobe has no plans of cancelling Flash at all. And there will always be a device, mobile or not, that supports the plugin.
But why do you even care,  .... <dreary diatribe deleted> and handfull of outdated devices will be worth something.
Well, if you read Tom's post you get one idea. Read what Adobe themselves, say, and you get a slightly different slant:
Mobile Flash is being killed off. The plugin that launched a thousand online forum arguments and a technology standoff between Apple and the format's creator, Adobe, will no longer be developed for mobile browsers, the company said in a note that will accompany a financial briefing to analysts.
Instead the company will focus on development around HTML5technologies [NB: Apple's original recommendation!] , which enable modern browsers to do essentially the same functions as Flash did but without relying on Adobe's proprietary technologies, and which can be implemented across platforms.
The existing plugins for the Android and BlackBerry platforms will be given bug fixes and security updates, the company said in a statement first revealed by ZDNet. But further development will end.
The decision also raises a question mark over the future of Flash on desktop PCs. Security vulnerabilities in Flash on the desktop have been repeatedly exploited to infect PCs in the past 18 months, while Microsofthas also said that the default browser in its forthcoming Windows 8 system, expected at the end of 2012, will not include the Flash plugin by default. Apple, which in the third quarter captured 5% of the world market, does not include Flash in its computers by default.

  • Need adobe flash player for 1pad

Have email and can not open because need adobe flash player

Flash is not supported on the iPad - and as Adobe have announced that they have stopped development on all mobile versions of it, it probably never will be.
If you have a link to a flash video then browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter, Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites have their own apps in the App Store.

  • Last update of Adobe Flash Player for Safari

Adobe flash player last update downloaded and installed but still it doesn't work with Safari. Pls advice as I don't see Adobe in the list of my programms. I followed this instruction http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5655 and it was successfully installed

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 5.
    1. If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, sign in to your YouTube account and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    2. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    3. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    4. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    5. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    6. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    7. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • I cannot watch videos after installing the latest version of adobe flash player for safari 6.1

Ive unistalled and reinstalled versions of adobe flashplayer to fix the problem, cleared computer of cookies, allowed plug ins, and tried various other options to get videos to work. So far it keeps telling me to install latest version of adobe when i already have. how do i fix this????

Try relaunching Safari and/or logging out/into your Mac.
Then browse to this Adobe page to verify you have the latest version of Flash installed -> http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html

  • How do I install adobe flash player in Safari?

I enabled pop up windows, but it still gets cancelled in the activity window.

Get the latest Flash player version from Adobe (address supplied by g_wolfman).
Make sure you get the correct version for Mac OS X.
Download it to the desktop. Close all browsers, double-click to start the installer and run it.
It no longer installs directly in any browser; it installs in Macintosh HD / Library / Internet plugins, where it's available to all browsers
Before you start, turn off the 'open safe files' feature in Safari Preferences. That should allow the downloads to complete without Safari interfering.
That should also solve the problem with Firefox downloading. To install Firefox, just drag the FF icon to the Application folder alias in the disk image window.
