Honestly i cannot remember sorry, i got it like 5 maybe 6 yrs ago and just started downloading things to it as the memory on the computer started filling up and when i wanted to see photos/videos on my TV.
My wife did tell me after i had written this post that she did try and record TV to it as it was plugged in. I think by doing so somehow has deleted everything. It reads on my TV yet has no files in it but won't show up on my computer. hope this helps.
Starting to think it is going to cost more to retrieve files on it than it will be to buy a newer and larger one.

My macbook recently wouldn't boot so needed to be reset.
I backed everything up from the hard drive using another mac to an external hard drive.
The hard drive was working fine and fully visible last night and now it won't show up on either mac.
I've tried it on a windows pc - it loads and all the files are still there.
Thanks for any help with this. I know there are quite a few threads about this but I thought it may make a diff if it shows up easily on a windows pc.

My husband originally bought the Scrabble app for his iPhone. I downloaded it onto my iPad and used it, successfully, for 1 day. Since then, when I try to open it, it starts to load and then shuts down and goes back to the main screen. PLEASE, someone, help me with this problem.
Try closing the Scrabble app via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Scrabble app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Scrabble app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If neither of the above fix it then you could try deleting it and re-sync or re-download it via the Purchased tab. -

Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
In most cases, those two actions will fix the port issue. If it's still an issue, you may need to see if the external hard drive can connect to another system, to ensure it's not having problems. -
When I try to send an email I get the message rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying. I have sent mails for months with no problems but has started to be recoccuring. Can anyone help please as its pointless having email on my phone otherwise :-( as i have to wait till i log on at home to respond.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I am asking this because I want the G-Tech Hard drive says that it is designed for the macbook pro. Yet, I want to back up faster with by using my firewire 400 which is not an option on the one designed for the white macbook that does not have a firewire (only a USB port.) The G-Tech Hard drive comes with the 800 to 400 compatible cable and has 5400 RPM with 750 GB. Also, I've heard that laptops with low battery (mine all the time) won't have the power for a bus powered Hard drive (as in no ac plug in adaptor.) Can I just plug in my laptop? Any one know the answers from experience with this hard drive?
As far as I know, if a harddrive works with a Macpro, it should work with the Macbook: if your Macbook is low on power, plug in the AC adapter
If your Macbook has a firewire port, then it should be fine. BUt i would do somemore research first. -

I have an external hard drive which has my i-photo on it & some movies from i-movie that I have on disk now. But for some reason my ehd has a caution symbol on it & I can't move my event to free up space on my hd so that I can export i-movie events. Help!
Usually the caution symbol means that it's formatted as a PC compatible format like NTFS or most likely FAT32. For iMovie to use it the ehd must be formatted Mac OS Extended. Then iMovie will show it without the caution symbol and you can drag/drop open any Event/Project from that hard drive.
To find out if it's formatted as PC:
Go to the desktop, holding down the Control key click on that ehd and in the pop-menu choose 'Get Info'
Under Format: It will say whether or not it's Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The only way to undo a PC formatted ehd would be to copy everything off of it first, Erase/Format the drive using Disk Utility in the Applications>Utilities folder on your Mac, choosing the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format in the pull-down menu there. -

Yes I did get to that part.... I went trough external to retrive itunes folder... When I selected the folder, it said that it was locked, choose another folder... I then went to my external again to my itunes folder and and used command I to see if folder was locked and it wasn't.... it was suggested on another forum to reboot.. which I did and still same problem... DannyI just answered a question like this about an hour ago so I won't type it all in again. No, there isn't an easy way to merge libraries. You can copy the entire iTunes library to the internal drive and then try to export playlists and import them into the other library, Haven't done it myself but it may work. Fortunately most of the things you mention are contained inside the files themselves (unless you use WAV format) so even if you end up having to add the files to the main library as new files they will still have your data (but not ratings, or date added, or playlists).

To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open the OS X Terminal utility and run the following command:
diskutil cs list
The output of this command will look like a hierarchical tree. Locate the long alphanumeric code next to the words "Logical Volume Group" (this code is called a "UUID"), and copy this code to the clipboard by highlighting it and then pressing Command-C.
2. Run the following command to destroy the logical volume group, replacing "UUID" with the alphanumeric string from the first command.
diskutil cs delete UUID
When done this will clear the volume and allow it to be formatted and otherwise customized. See the following screenshot for what this should look like (the two commands are underlined in blue: -
