How Do I Add A PDF That Can Be Filled Out And Submitted To My Email

I just finished converting an application to PDF using the forms wizard. This works really well as it makes it so they can only fill in the required information and not alter any of the other form. Right now I just have it posted as a downloadable file that they can save fill out and email back in. However what I'm wanting to do is have it where they can just open the PDF in another tab, fill it out and hit submit and have that automatically sent to my email account. What I've done is use:

This in essence will open the application in another tab of the browser where they can fill everything out. However thus far their only option is either a "Print" or "Save" button. I'd like to add a "Submit" button somehow to where it's emailed to an account I've set up, or have it save to a file on the server. I don't know if this is something I have to code into the site, or If I can make a button on the PDF itself, or there's an option to make the PDF display a "Submit" button, just need a little help. Thanks!

You use the 'submit' method to submit the PDF's FDF to web based script page and have that page perform the email function.

  • Create a Form in Acrobat Standard that can be filled out AND SIGNED using Free Reader

    I am tasked with creating forms that can be read, filled out and signed and submitted electronically by users that have only the reader software. I am using Acrobat 5 standard. I have not yet found a way to successfully create a form field that would allow users to insert a signature of some sort. This signature does not have to be encrypted, or use the digital signature system Adobe Acrobat has where you create a profile, log in, etc. It could be as simple as the ability to insert a jpeg or other image of their handwritten signature. This is to avoid having to have them fill it out, and then print it and fax or scan it in. It would be great if they could fill it out and then just save it and email it. How would I do this, or is it even possible?

    With AA5, there is no capability to submit a signature - even electronic. You can create a form that can be filled out, signed in the sense of adding a name and date, and submit to a web site.
    Insertion of images is not part of forms with AA5, but I think has become possible recently. Even so, they reader would also have to be compatible with the feature to be able to use it. If the typing of the name and the date would do, then you can add those fields - sort of the limit with AA5.
    With AA5, they can not save the form with the data. They can submit the data as an FDF file to a web site. If you have control of the client machines, then you can consider e-mail since those issues can be worked out locally. Without control of the clients (like a general form on the web), don't bother with e-mail since there will always be some that have problems.

    Firstly I apologise if I have not searched enough to find the answer to this question but I have tried and I need to purchase the correct Adobe Product for what I require.
    I work in the Health Industry and my job entails sending Forms currently in WORD to many different Universities.  The Universities have to fill in those forms and email them back to us.  It is not uncommon for us to send 30-40 forms to be completed per day! 
    The information on the forms are then emailed back to use and ultimately copied into about 20 OTHER different forms which travel throughout the Hospitals to various different departments. 
    As you can see, data integrity is of the utmost, but it is NOT when using WORD.
    What I want to be able to do is Design a PDF form where the recipient can open it, fill it in, and then return the form to us.  We then can extract that information and utilise it in other PDF forms which travel to elsewhere again. 
    Am I right in assuming that this can be done, but the data cannot be accessed unless you utilise a website to do this?  Unfortunately the hospital is not happy about this due to privacy issues.
    Can the forms I create be filled in and returned to US and the data then used without having to access a website?
    If it can, which product should I purchase.  My boss is happy to pay whatever it costs.
    Also, if this helps .... the data obtained on the forms will also be entered into a database down the track (access 2007) to make the entire process automated.  So is there anyone who uses the Adobe product with Access for data captures?

    You mention several different aspects about forms. With Acrobat 9 you can create forms within Acrobat itself (the form tools are under the tools menu) or with the LiveCycle Designer that is linked from Acrobat under the FORMS menu. There are pros and cons to both and you should probably test both. For your application, you do not need the form itself as I read it, but only the data. Submitting the data in XML, FDF, or other data formats does not require Reader Rights that is only needed to save the form AND data locally (in order to submit the full form or just have the data saved - nice, but not required when the price is considered beyond the 500 limit). You can search for the Reader Rights restrictions in the Acrobat EULA that is available at Adobe.COM (need to do a search). Section 15 indicates the issues. If the form is not submitted electronically, there is no limit as I read the EULA. Thus printing and sending in by mail should be fine. If it is submitted electronically, then the saving feature is an issue and subject to the limit. These are my opinions from reading the EULA and you really need to read it yourself, carefully.
    The data can be ported to several different database formats as I understand it.
    Data integrity and privacy can be an issue. The best way to handle this is by mail as you suggested (printing the form and submitting). However, it should be reasonable to submit to a web script that handles the processing of the data. I am just not sure how private that is and would have to defer to other IT folks. An e-mail submission would definitely not meet the need. However, your need and volume suggests that a web script is the way to go for your application. You may be able to find some comments here on the security of the web submission (I faintly remember some comments related to that), but definitely e-mail submission should be forgotten for the same reason it is a problem with WORD.
    In the meantime, you might consider downloading the trial of Acrobat 9 Pro (a comparison of the versions, Std, Pro, and Pro Extended, is under the Adobe Store. You have to enter the purchase part of the site, but don't have to purchase to see the comparison). I suggest you try forms in both Designer and directly in Acrobat to determine your own viewpoint of the pros and cons. Once you go to Designer, the form can no longer be edited in Acrobat. Also check the different data submission types that are available. Even an HTML data format is available if that is more convenient for you to parse and use in other applications. The data base options that were suggest might meet your needs well.
    You have your work cut out for you. I think you will find that PDFs will meet your need, at least a lot better than WORD. Good luck.

    You can indeed create a PDF form that can be opened, filled out and saved by users of Adobe Reader. It simply requires one of the later versions of Adobe Acrobat. It has a function to enable this ability in PDF's.
    The one down side is that there are usage limits (how many times form data can be collected) that you would want to familiarize yourself with in advance to be sure you don't violate the EULA. Exactly how thos limitations work are up to interpretation...

    I should have said Mac users. Because the Print system and sytem by which Mac users view anything is based on the PDF engine. The Mac sytem can do anything Standard Standrd could do. although in order to placate Adobe the pdf engine used is a version or two behind. If the Mac OS could do everything Acrobat could do there would be no reason for Adobe to provide Acrobat Or Reader for Mac.
    And you basing your assumption of what Standard can do a PC. Standard on Mac is basically Mac's Print to PDF  wrapped in an Adobe Package. It shad no ability to confer rights to reader (that didn't come to Acrobat Mac until Version 8) and was unable to to create forms. The current version of Acrobat PC comes as Standard, Pro, And extended. There never has and never will be an extended pro version for Mac (that adds the ability to create XML based forms) They don't have the interest. To adobe is little more than a Play toy. Because Windows has so much clout They can dictate what they want. Apple not so much. One advantage Mac does have is that Forms creator is built in. on PC its an adon (it free but an addon or was).
    Now back in OS 9 days and Acrobat 5.x Acrobat for Mac and PC were equal. except to have the print press features Mac users had to pay an addition $200.00.  (It exactly as you described in your last sentence - except Acrobat 5.x without the printpress and The Acrobat 5 without Print press was $299.00 and $499.00 with Print press.) I know I've used Acrobat since version 3.

  • How do I add a PDF to iPad 2 with Yosemite and iOS 8.1?

    I recently migrated my iPad 2 to iOS 8.1 and my iMac to from Snow Leopard (10.6.8, I think it was) to Yosemite (10.10). Now it is not at all obvious how to copy a PDF from the iMac to the iPad 2, and I could not find instructions in the online help.
    Before migrating to Yosemite, I could copy a PDF to Books in iTunes and then sync the iMac and iPad 2, and I would get a copy of the PDF on the iPad 2. Now iTunes no longer has a place for Books (which used to include PDFs)—its Books are only iBooks or audiobooks. I can copy a PDF to iBooks, but when I sync the iMac and iPad 2, I do not get a copy of the PDF on the iPad 2.
    I might be able to transfer the PDF to the iPad 2 using DropBox, but if there is a way that does not involve the cloud, I would prefer it. I cannot use DropBox on my iPad 2 unless I'm in a wifi zone, and I don't have one at home.
    Does anyone know a way to copy a PDF from an iMac running Yosemite to an iPad 2 running iOS 8.1 that does not involve DropBox or a wifi connection?

    I didn't get a chance to try this today, because the PDF that I emailed to myself wasn't on my iPad when I looked for it there—that is, the message that I sent to myself wasn't there. I probably made some stupid mistake. However, I discovered that I can open iBooks on my iMac, click PDFs, drag the PDF into PDFs on iBook, and sync the Books on the iMac and iPad. Before clicking Sync, I have to find the list of Books (which includes PDFs) on the iPad and select the new PDF. The difference between what I was doing on Snow Leopard and what I am doing on Yosemite is that on Snow Leopard, I could drag the PDF into iTunes (under Books) and on Yosemite I have to drag the PDF into iBooks (under PDFs). The sync'ing part is the same.

    I don't think (but may be wrong) that you can do that within InDesign. At the very least, you could draw the form within InDesign but I guess that the interactivity between the list selection and the mail action should be achieved with Acrobat Scripting or LiveCycle Designer if you have it.
