I am the disgruntled spouse that is forced to deal with these GOD **** apple products because my wife desires them. They are F'ING impossible to use.
First thing the new i-pod touch 4.0 touch asks me to do is insert my apple user name and password. I do this and it gives me this b.s. " Verify Your Account This Apple ID's email adderss cannot be verified. Change your Apple ID's email address at appleid.apple.com to sign into MobileMe." I do this - it still won't let me create a new id. Furthermore - why should I have to? The id is just to confirm who I am and I already have a myriad of e-mail accounts where this is possible. Including the one registered with my itunes store account.
Why don't I have any of these problems with my android OS or on my windows controlled products?
I'll be returning this as soon as I can.

What's wrong with account verification? Did you ever receive the email regarding the verification process for your Apple ID with the email you set your Apple ID up with?

Unless you have the previous owners password you cannot remove the Apple ID. The previous owner did not correctly prepare that iPhone For sale and needs to remove all information. If the Activation Lock is not set by turning on Find My Phone in Settings, iCloud, you can go to Settings, General, Reset, Erase All Content and Settings to get rid of it. If Find My Phone is on, only the previous owner can clear it.
