How do I adjust brightness in Windows 7 on my 27" iMac?

After installing all of the Boot Camp support files, I still can't adjust the brightness of my screen when I boot in to Windows 7 Ultimate.  The keyboard seems to work when I try to adjust the brightness, since the adjustment indicator (icons that look like a sun) comes up on screen.
Is this an installation issue?

Found the solution!
Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings > slide control to 'Never notify' > Reboot.
Problem solved.

  • How can you use symbols in Windows 7 on a IMac 27

How can you use symbols @$€%£¥ in Windows 7 on a IMac 27 mid 2011?  I tried what was normally done on Windows and got nothing.  Alt plus numbers and nothing happens, what am I missing?

    Frosted Flake,
Are you referring to an equivalent to the Windows Character Map Application (charmap.exe) that allowed you to see the various characters available in each font, and then give you an ALT-nnn number you could key to use the character you wanted ?
If so you can use the Special Characters from the Edit menu of most applications. Once you have located the character/symbol you want double click it and it will be entered wherever you cursor is located in your application.

  • Adjusting brightness on Windows XP

Anyone know how to adjust the screen brightness on the "dark side". I use bootcamp and have windows xp home addition. The screen seems to be darker than normal. I've looked on XP webside and they say to adjust brightness use controls on the screen. I don't have those controls on the screen of a macbook pro. When I use the F2 key on the laptop it does nothing. Any help appreciated

You'll probably want to post your question in the Boot Camp discussions:

  • Cannot adjust brightness in windows 7 64bit

    Hi everyone, thanks for reading!
I cannot adjust the brightness in windows 7 64bit with my keyboard. I have tried reinstalling the latest bootcamp drivers but it still did not work.
The brightness of the monitor is just too bright for my eyes...
Is there anyway I can fix this problem? I really appreciate yr help!
My computer is an mid 2011 27" iMac. It has a i5 CPU, originally 4GB ram but i added another 16GB ram to it.
    Thanks for your help again!

is your problem that you can't adjust the brightness from some keyboard shortcut or that you can't adjust it by any means in windows?
I have the same generation imac just 21" model and the apple support hardware video card driver auto adjust the brightness for me if one don't use the apple driver and let windows install some generic amd video card driver that may not be the case
check the amd catalyst display settings for more info also about brightness

  • How to precisely adjust brightness under Lion

    Hi,
working with a Mid 2010 IMac and the Apple Wireless Keyboard it is obvious that brightness may be controlled by pressing both the "fn" key and the respective keys F1 or F2.
Under Snow Leopard I created a list of useful shortcuts to get familiar with the various extra functions. One of them was to press ALT + Shift + fn+F1/F2 to be able to adjust brightness in finer steps than with the a.m. regular tune. The background of my question is the adjustment of brightness in context with a monitor calibration using a colorimeter.
This ALT+Shift method doesn't seem to work since I upgraded to Lion (10.7.3). Any ideas or proposals are appreciated.

Right. Attempting to install or boot a version of OS X earlier than the one installed on the Mac when it was built is likely to fail: Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac
The reason is that new Mac hardware requires new drivers that may not exist on previous versions of OS X.
If it shipped with Lion it might be able to boot Snow Leopard, since there was a period of time in 2011 in which computers produced with Snow Leopard were later shipped with Lion, while the hardware remained unchanged. This will work only if you did not update the Mac's firmware though.

  • How do I download Firefox for Windows XP on an iMac?

I have just installed Windows XP on an iMac (which otherwise runs Mac OS 10.6.3). I want to download Firefox to run under XP on it, but of course I have no browser on that part of the machine, so I tried to download it through the Firefox on my Mac OS system.
The website, being very clever, thinks I want Firfox to run under Mac OS, and that's what it selects. How do I persuade it to let me download the installer for Windows XP?

    Thanks Tony.
In the end, I noticed a little link saying something like "All languages and operating systems." Probably the same as your link. I managed to download it through there. OPerating beautifully now (and also apparently with the system, it installed Internet Explorer, so all was not as dire as thought!)
    Thanks again!

  • How to install PS CS3 for Windows on my new iMac? [was:New computer]

I have a new iMAC and would like to download Photoshop CS3 extended. I had before a PC and I have the serial number. Is there a way? I really need to install it and dont mind to upgrade it.

I didn't deactivate the account in my old pc because it is broken and cannot get it. Maybe is that the resaon why doesn't work?
    Not related.
The reason it doesn't work is because perptually licensed products (such as your CS3 for Windows) are always issued with serial numbers specific to your operating system. Mac only serial numbers cannot be used on Windows. Likewise Windows serials cannot be used on Macs.
In short, you cannot install your CS3 Windows on your new iMac.
Your best option to get Photoshop on your iMac now is to join the Cloud, which you can do at a discounted monthly fee since you're a CS3 owner.
If you own Photoshop CS3 standalone retail version - not a suite or an educational version - then you could do it for $9.99/month and get Photoshop CC + Lightroom 5 + extras

  • How to adjust brightness in windows vista?

I can't figure out how to adjust the screen brightness. On the mac osx install disc 1 which supposedly has all the drivers, it did not hve the mac keyboard driver or the nvidia graphics card driver either. I found latter on the internet without much hassle, but I can't find a keyboard driver anywhere, so I'm stuck with this full brightness screen that really burns my eyes out, as well as draining a lot battery power when unplugged from the mains.

If you are also an administrator on your account click the drop down box on the recovery menu where it says 'administrator' and see if your account is listed. If it's the only account listed have you tried entering no password?
If that fails then google for 'hirens boot cd' which has a reset tool for Vista on the CD.

  • Trouble adjusting brightness in Windows 8.1

I know there are other threads on this, but none of the solutions seems to be working for me.
I manage multiple MBP-13in Retinas (Late 2013) and I'm having trouble adjusting the brightness of the laptop screen on all of them.
I have tried everything mentioned in other posts
    Adaptive Brightnss
    Disabling the Generic PnP driver
    Reinstalling everything
    Changing the resolution
The best work around I can figure out is hitting Comman + P (Windows Key + P) switching the display mode to extend (or anything else) and then switching it back to PC Display only. After doing that it works everytime.
It also seems to finally work if I leave the computer on for about 15 mins or so, or if I shut the lid and then open it back up again.
Would love a new release of BootCamp to fix this, any work arounds that people have discovered specifically for the 13in MBPr Late 2013 would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Clean install 8.1 via boot camp
We make a few consistent changes but I can't imagine these are related but here's a full list
Disable hibernation, page file, adaptive brightness, system restore
Power settings never sleep while plugged
On display settings, try for best performance it will likely uncheck everything (we keep 5 but can't recall)

  • How to gradually adjust Brightness Filter?

I'm trying to get a group of objects to darken when they pass a certain part of the sun, but I can't adjust a fade in with the brightness filter. How can I have a nice transition between the original brightness and the altered one?

Move the playhead to the frame you want the brightness to start decreasing.
In the Filters inspector (with the object of filter selected) click where you see the yellow "diamond" shape (that will set the first keyframe.) (When you mouse over that parameter, you'll see a light gray version of the icon appear -- and once you set one keyframe, then some variation of that icon will persist there; if it's gray, there's no keyframe at that time -- the < and > marks appear when there are set keyframes before and/or after the current time -- you can click on them to advance the playhead to the exact time of the previous/next set keyframe.)
Move the playhead to the end of the brightness range and drag the slider to zero.
Assuming you want the "other side" of the orbit to go back to the original brightness, move the playhead forward to the point where you want the maximum brightness restored and move the brightness slider back up to the setting you require.
Notice you only had to "set" the first keyframe. Motion automatically tracks changes on parameters with any keyframe on it and will automatically apply a new keyframe at the playhead time position IF you change the value of the parameter.

  • How do I install Bootcamp on Windows 7 on my iMac?

I've just installed Windows 7 ultimate 64bit on my 24" iMac. After i installed it i put my leopard disk in to install bootcamp and it comes up with there are compatibility issues so i continued anyway, it then starts installing until it comes to saying 'keyagent failed to start' followed by 'Mac HAL failed to start'. It also says to check i have sufficient privelidges so i ran the installer as administrator but no luck still.
I have read that because i have an early version of the leopard disk there are no 64bit bootcamp drivers and i need to install them, but i cant find them anywhere, i would assume they would come with Bootcamp 3.0 but i cant find that anywhere to download, ive downloaded bootcamp 3.1 but it needs 3.0 to install. Any ideas? Its driving me crazy!!!

Install 7. Don't bother with applying drivers and such, just reboot again from DVD and install again, it will see the existing system and this time activation will be possible.
Vista is mess, takes longer etc. Hope you have SP1 version of 7. And for Vista, only SP2+ are even supported now, by MS.

  • How do I adjust the video display on my G3 iMac

I think my machine has the 300MHZ processor. It runs fine, but there is a fairly large amount of "black space" that is not being used on the monitor. If it was any other analog monitor, I could change the settings to make the screen expand. But on this iMac, it doesn't appear to have any knows to twist and turn to make adjustments. Am I looking in the wrong place?
    Thanks!

If your machine is working properly, you can adjust screen real estate by going to - System Preferences - Displays - and clicking the "Geometry" tab.
If the controls there don't help, you likely have a hardware problem.
