How do I back up my final cut software

I've lost my disks for Final Cut Express 3.5 and want to back up the software. Is there a way I can do this?

There is no easy way to do this other than cloning your entire hard drive, as Studio X suggested.
If you want to attempt a manual backup, see Final Cut Express HD: How to Uninstall.  The list of folders & files is a guide to what you would need to back up.  A restore would necessitate putting all the files back into the proper folders.  Even then there would be no guarantee it would work.
Also, your profile indicates you are using Lion (10.7.3).   FCE was discontinued before Lion was released, and no version of Final Cut Express is supported on Lion.  Plus FCE HD 3.5 is quite old at this point, and imho I wouldn't advise using it on anything later than Tiger (10.4.11).  If you are really running on Lion, you should consider upgrading to Final Cut Pro X.

  • How to go back old version final cut pro?

    Hi
I recently upgraded my Final cut to new upgrade. My old one was FCP 6. Now it doesn't open and asking me put serial number. My FCP is not eligible for upgrade. ALso it said wrong serial number and doesn't open. How can I go back to old version I had? I have project i m working on I don't know what to do please. I need to go back to FCP 6.
    Thank you

Any chance your old FCP is Academic? If so, you cannot upgrade that.
To go back, you need to uninstall FCS (use the FCS uninstaller, do a search in the forum). then reinstall the previous version.

If you have a Panasonic P2, Canon XF or Sony XDCAM series camcorder,
you may be familiar with Material eXchange Format (MXF). Though MXF is a
great video format to record high-definition videos, it is not easy to
use in that they are not natively supported by most NLE systems like
Final Cut Pro. In order to import MXF to FCP for editing, the easy workaround is to transcode MXF files to FCP compatible video formats.
Along with some help from a top MXF Converter, it can be done. To

on Mac (Mavericks included) which can not only convert XF100, Canon
C300, XF105 and XF305, Panasonic P2 recorded MXF files, but also provide
simple video editing functions for you. The MXF to FCP Converter not
only can convert MXF to ProRes for FCP, but also can transcode MXF
videos for editing in Avid MC, Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, FCE, etc.
Just download it and follow the tutorial below to get the work done.
Transcoding (P2) MXF files to ProRes for Final Cut Pro 6/7/X
    1. Import MXF files to the converter
Launch the best MXF to FCP Converter, and then click the “add files” button to browse and import MXF videos from your camcorder or hard drive.
    2. Select FCP editable format
Click the Format bar, and move mouse cursor to choose “Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)” as output format.
    Tips:
    a. Settings- click to set video
    resolution(1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480), bitrate (from 1Mbps to
    20Mbps), frame rate (24p/30p)
    b. Editor (next to “Add” icon)- click to set deinterlace, trim, crop, add effect, attach subtitles, etc
    3. Start transcoding MXF video to FCP
Click “Convert” button to start converting MXF files to Apple ProRes

I'm not certain, but I think, if there's not a background color saved as part of the original file, you'll retain the transparency. Give it a try.
What application are you using to create the original file?

  • How can i check if a Final Cut Studio licence has been used or not?

    Hello there,
How can i check if my 'Final Cut Studio 3 Retail' set has a usuable licence or they have been used allready? It is second hand and i no longer have a Mac and wish to sell the product. In the box it has 2 of the same serials so i gather it can be used twice?
Any help would greatly be appreciated
    Kind Regards
    Tim

If your serial is printed on the official sticker you will have no problems and should the new owner register it, any previous registrations will be deleted.
Officially you can only use it on one Desktop and one Laptop but there is no physical limit to the number of computers you can install it on.

  • How to get DVD's into Final Cut 5

I have been given raw footage of my son's wedding shot in HD and put on 5 DVD's. It is in standard definition on the DVD. How can I get it into Final Cut 5 to edit? I have always worked from miniDV tapes and am at a loss as to how to make this work. Can anyone make a suggestion.

I'm guessing the DVD's you received are playable DVDs - not just being used to hold the date from the camera - so, if that IS the case -
MPEG Streamclip can take the VIDEO_TS files from those DVDs and convert them to an editable format.
Just do a google search for it, you'll find it.
(BTW, those DVDs will be far less quality than what it was shot on if it was HD. You may want to get the master footage.)

Since the transitions are just media, I keep them with the rest of my media used for editing; in a folder on my media drive.

How do I make titles in Final Cut Express HD?

Effects > Video Generators > Text -or-
Effects > Video Generators > Boris
Select the kind of title you want, drag it to the Viewer.  Click the Controls tab in the Viewer.  Enter your titles, tweak your settings (color, font, etc).  Then move the clip to your sequence.   In general, Boris Title 3D and Title Crawl work best.
If you want the titles to appear over video, place the title clip(s) on a track that is higher than your video.
