How do I backup profile manager database on OS X Yosemite?

Hello guys,
I'm struggling to find an answer on how to backup profile manager database(devices, groups etc.) on Yosemite(server 4), so far I only found a few threads for Mavericks (10.9) & Server 3 saying to type the following command via terminal: "sudo pg_dump -U _postgres -c device_management > $HOME/device_management.sql"
Although this command applies to Mavericks(server 3) I decided to give it a shot but as expected I got this error message:
"pg_dump: [archiver (db)] connection to database "device_management" failed: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket "/var/pgsql_socket/.s.PGSQL.5432"?"
I also tried to backup & restore profile manager's database with TimeMachine but unfortunately it didn't worked..
It seems that TimeMachine misses the profile manager's data folders(see thread: Profile Manager not being backed up in Time Machine?)
and I saw that other people also complained about this problem.
As we're a company who holds thousands of devices & integrates them on daily basis to profile manager, I would be very pleased to know how to backup our Profile manager's database.
Please see this question as HIGH importance, I really hope to get an answer ASAP..
Thanks in advance for all the repliers!
Yours sincerely,
Daniel Adler.

Hi Strontium90,
Thanks for your reply!!
I tried your command, but unfortunately i got the following error msg:
"too many command-line arguments (first is "devicemgr_v2m0")
Try "pg_dump --help" for more information."
Please correct me if I'm wrong: assuming command was successful, I should've seen 'profileManager.sql' file at my desktop(output path = ~/Desktop/) which is the Profile Manager's database file I guess, right? and where is the restoration path located? in case I want to restore Profile Manager's database with the created backup file('profileManager.sql').
Also you mentioned: "Automate to perform daily", how can I automate this command?
Thanks a lot for your support!
Have a nice day.
Yours sincerely,
Daniel Adler.

  • When clicking loading FireFox the profiles box comes up but it blank, no profiles are loading, how do I get profile manager to load the profiles?

Profile manager loads up but the window is now blank. I have checked in the profiles folder and the profiles exist but I can not get them to load. What do I need to do to make profile manager load the profiles? Thanks.

Is this a new installation of Firefox you're running for the first time, or have you been running Firefox for a while?
Are you using the "built in" profile manager (firefox.exe /profilemanager) or the new "stand alone" profile manager?
If you look in this folder:
    C:\Users\''username''\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox
do you have a file named profiles.ini? It's a text file that usually has information for each of the profile folders in the Profiles subdirectory.

  • How to backup profile manager?

Is there a way to backup the database in the profile manger?

Thought I should update this info for Mavericks (10.9) and Server 3 because Apple changed things again, just slightly.
Apple removed /user/bin/psql and associated apps so now you only have one psql to deal with and it’s in your environment path. Running ‘which psql’ will show you /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/bin/psql
That has simplified things a little.
The socket has moved also and is now in:
    /Library/Server/ProfileManager/Config/var/PostgreSQL/
So to get into the database run this command.
    sudo psql -U _devicemgr -d device_management -h /Library/Server/ProfileManager/Config/var/PostgreSQL/
Use \d to see the tables \h to get help \q to exit. See the man page or the postgresql documentation online for more if you are new to this, like me.
    The basic backup/dump command is:
    pg_dump -U _devicemgr -h /Library/Server/ProfileManager/Config/var/PostgreSQL/ -c device_management > $HOME/device_management.sql
If you use the above psql command to create the backup it will be in a text format. Apparently that means you need to also use psql to restore. I’m sure there are better ways to do the backup and restore. Having a full TimeMachine backup of your server works well.
For the restore I modified the previously posted commands just a bit.
    sudo serveradmin stop devicemgr
    sudo serveradmin start postgres
    sudo dropdb -h /Library/Server/ProfileManager/Config/var/PostgreSQL/ -U _devicemgr device_management
    sudo createdb -h /Library/Server/ProfileManager/Config/var/PostgreSQL/ -U _devicemgr device_management
    sudo psql -U _devicemgr -d device_management -h /Library/Server/ProfileManager/Config/var/PostgreSQL/
    sudo serveradmin start devicemgr
I rand all this on a test server and it appears to work.

  • How do I backup Camera Raw Database?

I have my 'how to save image options' setting set to 'in camera raw database' instead of individual xmp files which i find cluttersome and I view my folders outside of bridge so hiding them in bridge doesn't help me.
I've read (on here) that if you use the database method if you so much as move a folder or move a file then you lose your settings for the file. Well I can move a folder, or file, or rename the folder or file (all in windows explorer with no adobe products running) and bridge/acr still load up all the settings..
So this brings me to my question, when backing up my raw files, besides the image files, what do I need to backup to ensure that it also backs up my settings? Thanks

    Thomas Knoll, "++ Debugging ACR 3.x Installation Problems ++" #220, 8 Sep 2006 12:54 pm
There are TWO caches. The Bridge cache and the Camera Raw cache. You need to purge the Bridge cache. You need to the Bridge menue to do that, not the use button in the Camera Raw preferences dialog, which purge the Camera Raw cache, which is not the problem.
    and

Purging the cache does not lose any edits in CS2 when working with raw files.

  • How to schedule backup on SQL database backend

    Hi,
We have installed CRM5.0 on SQL2005 database at first time. My concern is in oracle database we schedule through DB12 twi types of backup Onlie and offline.
But in SQL backend how many types of backup? is that same like online and offline.
Can we schedule the backup through DB13? or do we need to schedule throgh SQL level and OS level.
Please suggest backup strategy using SQL backend.
    Thanks
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa,
The types of backup in SQL2005 are mostly the same.
We have the Full/Incremental/Differential DB backup along
with the transactional log backup. Not neccessary to have
access to OS level for scheduling backups, DB13 can be
used easily for backups. A good strategy would be to
first have a complete DB backup, thereafter periodic
incremental DB backup/transaction log backup would be
suffucient. The periodicity could depend on the usage
    requirements.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I backup my iPhoto database?

I have about 2,500 photos in iPhoto. Although I use Time Machine to backup my entire Mac to an external drive, I'd also like to backup my photos to a DVD just to have a super safe archive copy.
When I go to the Picture folder, I see the iPhoto library is about 6 GBs. It's too big to fit on a DVD without splitting it. Is there some backup utility within the Mac system software that will do this? I really don't want to have to buy some third-party software as his is the only file that I'd be backing up this way.

If you don't have an external HD to which you can backup up your library in addition to Time Machine then you'll need to select a number of Event to give you about 4 GB of photos and burn them to disk via the Share ➙ Burn menu option in iPhoto. Then select additional Events, again no more than 4 GB worth, and burn them. This is because iPhoto does not support multi disk burning.
    Happy New Year

  • How Is Profile Manager Data Backed Up?

    Hello,
I am new to Profile Manager and I like the mobile device managment features.
I can't seem to find any information on how the profiles are backed up.
When using Workgroup Manager, my settings were backed up in Open Directory and then replicated to  secondary server I had set up as a replica. Does anyone know how Profile Manager Data is backed up?
    Thanks,
    Ray

Profile Manager data is stored in PostgreSQL. If you use Time Machine, the databases are dumped every 24 hours. If you don't use Time Machine, you can manually dump the devicemgr database in case you need to restore in the future.
More info on doing that here: http://krypted.com/iphone/backing-up-and-reindexing-the-profile-manager-database -in-lion-server/

  • Backup Server Settingd - Including Profile Manager

We want to ensure that we have a backup of our server settings and also the network settings of the machine. We have experienced issues with TimeMachine in the past and want to ensure we are backing our server up including the Profile Manager database and active directory database.
    Thanks,
    James.

The files are created by PostGreSQL and contain WAL (write-ahead-logging) data. It's still not clear why these files should be growing at more than 33 MB a day.
Why is there no snapshot of the database taken, past WAL files deleted and new ones started every day/week/month? Can I do this myself? I'm now wasting 16GB of storage as an inefficient backup for PostgreSQL.

  • Profile Manager - How to Wipe User's Address Book / Contacts

    Hello All,
I have deployed about 90 MacBooks to a middle school.. when creating my Master Image, I didn't realize there were some contacts left over in the Contacts App... so now each student has about 10 local contacts when they launch the app.
I am using the Profile Manager on Mavericks to configure all of these laptops.
How can I, using Profile Manager on Mavericks Server, remotely wipe all of those contacts?

Well.. not that anybody responded, but this isn't possible with Profile Manager.. but it is possible with Apple Remote Desktop.

  • Server 10.8 Profile Manager error

I hope some one just help me out here:
Last week, shortly after the 2.2 update came out, I installed the update. Unfortunately, doing so made our NetInstall service run very badly. We rolled back the Server.app from a Time Machine backup. That caused out Profile Manager process to not be able to find it's info. I suspect it was updated with the first 2. update and rolling back the server.app confused it. So, we reapplied the update to 2.2. That allowed Profile Manager to work, and we have been living with the poorly working NetImage. Now, we seem to have an error with Profile Mamager not being able to start due to errors. I would like to restore the database from Time machine and perhaps even the postgreSQL and DeviceManager process to get it working, but I can't figure out which folders I need to restore.  I've spent the better aprt of the day surfing for answers to a non functional Profile Manager, but nothing works.
What is the proper location for the Profile Manager database ?
How can I tell that postgreSQL is looking in the right place ?
Can I reindex the database to repair it ?

  • Profile Manager & Time Machine Restore

Has anyone had luck with restoring the Profile Manager database from a Time Machine backup?
We left for the holidays and everything was just spiffy with it.  When we returned the server was locked hard.  Upon reboot, when you try to go into the Profile Manager admin web page, right after login, you immediately get "A Server Error has Occured [reload]". Start/stop of Profile Manger has no effect, but in Server.app it is running.
We think maybe the SQL database was corrupted sometime over break and want to restore it.  It's in /Library/Server/Profile Manger/
    Curious,
    -Steve

I also have the same issue.
I have a server which manages ipads using profile manager.
I have restored a Mac Mini with the Server App and Profile Manager from a Time Machine backup. All my settings, devices and device groups are there but when i try and push anything out to an ipad the task just sits there pending and nothing happens. The ipad is is connected to the same network and i can ping the IP of the ipad from network utility on the server.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
