How do I burn a video onto a dvd out of imovie 11?

How do I burn a video onto a dvd out of imovie 11?
Also the program churns and churns, till I'm able to do something else. Why so slow? Is there any render button?

Here is a step by step on how to create a DVD from iMovie 10 using iDVD 7.1.2. If you do not have iDVD, you can probably substitute Toast (or one of the programs Pieter mentioned) everywhere I used iDVD (I don't have Toast so can't verify this).
1. Create a project in iMovie 10.0.1
2. Go to File>Share>File... and for Size choose Large 540P (960 x 540) and click Next
3. Choose a location on the hard drive to save the file to.
4. Wait for the blue circle activity indicator to finish.
5. In Finder, verify that iMovie created an MP4 file in the location specified in step 3.
6. Open iDVD and click "Create New Project."
7. Give the project a name and save it to your hard drive.
8. Drag the file you created earlier from the Finder into your iDVD project window.
(or go to File>Import>Video... and choose your video there)
9. Make any adjustments to drop zones, etc.
10. Click the burn button.
11. Insert a DVD and let it do its thing.
This produces a working DVD for me.
Here are my software specs:
OS X 10.9 Mavericks
iMovie 10.0.1
iDVD 7.1.2

I tried burning a video playlist onto DVD afterwards I tried playing it but the files could not be read. Please Help!

Movies and TV Shows purchased from iTunes Store cannot be burned to DVD in a format readable by traditional DVD Players. you are only able to burn them as data, readable by other iTunes capable computers.

  • How can I burn an mpeg onto a DVD without having to use IDVD or IMovie?

So I've got a few jpg's and mpeg's that I would like to burn for PC friends, but the only way I can figure out how to get these onto a CD or DVD is by using IDVD or IMovie with my IMac. Is there a way around this? Why doesn't a blank DVD or CD icon come up on the desktop once inserted so that I can simply drag and drop my photos and short movies to it to be burned accordingly? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for responding Dave, but this option doesn't
seem to appear in the preferences of IDVD, DVD
Player, or Quicktime. It seems strange that the only
way I can burn a movie is to create a new IMovie
project and and then burn it via IDVD. This is a
huge hassle when all I want is a few short videos in
no particular order saved on a CD or DVD. My CD
player doesn't seem to be listed separately and is
tied into Itunes. Isn't ILife suppose to make
things easier? Thanks for your help.

  • HOW DO I BURN MY VIDEO TO A DVD

Hi I'm a news editor and have used Final Cut Pro in the news room before, but I just got Final Cut Pro 5 for my home comp and I edited a sequence but now I dont know how to burn it onto a DVD. Can someone talk me through it? I also have DVD studio pro 4. I need to figure this out ASAP!

If you're using iDVD, you won't get great quality on any program much over an hour in duration. You'd be better off using Compressor and DVD-SP, both of which will provide for greater control over the encoding and authoring process.
If quality is the main objective, I'd seriously consider using dual layer media (DVD 9) in order to keep the bit rate higher. Also, in Compressor, encode the audio to Dolby Digital (AC3) to allow for more room for the video content.
If you must use iDVD, you may want to create a 2 disc set. That will also allow for greater quality. Keep in mind that iDVD is sort of a one-button approach to accomplish several steps; encoding, authoring and burning; it isn't taking 12 hours to burn, most of that time iDVD is doing the MPEG-2 encoding.
When exporting from FCP for iDVD, you need to fully render your Sequence first, then export a QuickTime Movie (File->Export->QuickTime Movie), NOT "Using QuickTime Conversion. Make sure to include Chapter Markers if you've set them, do NOT "Recompress all Frames" and I do recommend making the movie Self-Contained.
One last thing. As I stated above, it's best not to threadjack. If you have a question to post, post a new topic in the forum. More people will see your question that way and you'll most likely get more possible solutions and advice.

  • How do I burn multiple projects onto one DVD?

I have several projects saved that are small enough to fit on one DVD.  Not sure, though, if I burn project #2 after project 1 has been burned, whether the software is smart enough to keep them separate and not over-write project #1.

Once you have burned a Timeline content to DVD-VIDEO format on DVD-R disc, the disc is finalized and you cannot burn a second time on that same disc (no multisessions). Even if you use a DVD-RW disc, the program will erase what is on the disc before burning anything to it.
Now, if you have 3 projects and you want to combine them to be part of one DVD-VIDEO on DVD, then you need to remember that you cannot import a project (project.prel) into another project.prel. So, you have going to have to export the Timeline of each of the projects to a file. The file type selected should be consistent with the goals of the project. To be discussed in more details if necessary. Then each file is brought into a new project (set with the appropriate project preset) which is burned to DVD VIDEO on DVD disc.
Stop markers at the end of each of the first two files is done. But, never place a stop marker at the end of the last file on the Timeline. It is not needed and can cause problems in the project.
Please consider and let us know if you need clarification on anything written.
    Thank you.

The picture files are grey and unelectable; i actually didn't see a selectable file. Please please help, I need this done in 30 minutes! Do i have to burn them onto CD's?

Since I have no idea what Operating system your using I will give it for both Tiger and Leopard.

Burning Data CDs and DVDs in Leopard and Tiger
Mac OS X 10.5 Help: Burning a CD or DVD
Depending on which version iPhoto you have that could also be used. More detail would help make answering easier.

  • How to transfer and edit iphone videos onto a dvd

I have lots of videos on my iphone, however I do not know how to put these videos on a dvd, they are just in my itunes and i'm not sure what else I can do with them.  I tried using windows movie maker, but it does not support .mov files. I downloaded a program to convert the files to .avi, i think is what it was, but it was taking foreverr for each video. Is there a way, or a program to use .mov files to edit and burn multiple videos to a dvd?

    Hi.
    So I assume that you run Windows ? I am not that familiar with Windows, but I have a suggestion for you;
Try download Handbrake(it's free). I believe it's for both Mac and Windows. From here you can choose most filetypes and have them convert into all sorts of types.
    Wish you luck.

Maybe try one of the WiFi transfer Apps?  There are several to choose from. I use Photosynch quite often to send photos and videos between my computer(s), my iPhone, and iPad.

  • IDVD is not on my system and I cannot download it from the App store.  How Do I burn my home movies to DVD?

iDVD is not in my macBook pro and I need an iDVD or a good program to burn my home movies on DVD with menus. I cannot download iDVD or any other professional programs like DVD Studioor ... from App store. Please help me how do I burn my short films to DVD? Also please tell me any other free programs alternate it for burn DVD with putting menus.

    Hi
iDVD is not or never been free !
there are up-dates but still You need the original iDVD v. 7.x.x to use them.
Best of program - not sold by Apple any more but on Amazon or e-bay in boxed versions of iLife 11
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

How do I burn a movie to a dvd that will play in a dvd player?

If you want to burn a video file which doesn't have any copy protection (DRM), there is a great free App called 'burn OSX'. Google it if you want to use it.
If its a iTunes movie, and you want to play it on your TV you could use a cable connected to your iPod/iPhone/iPad or use an Apple TV box.

Ask in the iDVD forum on what's the best way out of iPhoto and into iDVD.  The resident expert there, Bengt Wärleby, can give you the best option.
