How do I change a printers workgroup??? HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus

Hi   I purchased a new printer direct from HP, a HP-OfficeJet Pro 8500 Plus.
My setup has 5 PC's 3 servers & 1 laptop. Hard-wired network & 2 wireless networks. 2 Network Hubs and 1 ADSL2 Modem/Router This is a pro setup and I am a very experienced user.
I have had this printer for a couple of weeks and have spent many hours checking and re-checking the settings and testing everything. I also tried setting up a wireless connection and it resulted in the same faults. I was under the illusion that a company as big as HP should know how to build a printer by now and that it must be my fault. It isn't???
My networks are setup with static IP's as I find it much easier to solve problems and monitor connections, especially in this case. I even tried a totally separate network just for testing this printer.
I have installed the printer with a static IP and proceeded to enter the DNS
1st  Problem - The DNS setting does not accept 2 external addresses, but it will accept one internal and one external.
Finished installation and my PC found the network printer, However, it disappeared. So I checked using HP's Diagnostic utility and it was found and I looked at the advanced settings. Everything appears ok. So I ran a network scanner and low and behold the problem was revealed.
2nd Problem -  The printer is connected to MSHOME workgroup,
which I do not use. So that's ok I will change it.??!!?!? Where? There are no advanced settings for the workgroup probably on the assumption that the printer will detect it. It doesn't! This does however explain why the printer appears and disappears.
I have spent the last few days reading posts and it would appear that printers disappearing is a common occurence.
May I suggest that this fault may well be the problem, not just for this printer but for other network printers?!?
Does anyone know how to change the printers workgroup settings? I have used all the HP utilities and can not find a way of doing it. Does anyone know of a suitable tool or what HP use to connect to the printers and what language it is?
3rd Problem - ePrint cannot connect to the printer? I suspect this too will be solved when the workgroup & DNS is corrected.
If you have a default workgroup then the printer will work fine. I don't, so it doesn't!
This printer probably works fine for a home user with default settings and DHCP connections anything more and problems are encountered.
What is required is an advanced utility (or altering the current Network Diagnostics one) that allows us to change all aspects of the network connection, not just some of them. Relying on DHCP settings and standard default settings is no good.
Possible additions or alterations required are:   (Think router options with printer settings)
The choice of either static IP, auto IP address or DHCP
DNS settings for 2, but preferably 4 with all accepting external DNS addresses without throwing up faults.
IP Range (if applicable)
Preferred workgroup (if applicable)
Default Gateway & Subnet
Connection Type
Broadcast options
uPNP options
Print manager (with current connections and /or jobs)
4th Problem - The web interface throws up faults even when the information is correct.
The only option then is to enter it through the printers interface, which is limited, but it will accept the information.
I suspect most of the problems may be fixed by a firmware update. Lets hope there is one soon with all the required bits added.  If you think what I have written is a load of rubbish then feel free to comment and any useful options or fixes would be very welcome.
Knowledge is what we know, Intelligence is what we understand.

Unfortunately, the installation software for OfficeJet printers is incapable of 'finding' the printer on a peer-to-peer network, if:
 - there isn't a DHCP server;
 - if assignment of IP addresses for network devices is performed manualy, or
 - if your peer-to-peer network's NetBIOS Group / Workgroup name is anything other than "MSHOME"
This last item appears to be a hard-wired configuration on every HP OfficeJet.
To provide even more frustration, HP provides a "Update IP Address" tool.
However, even though its printer can be 'pinged', and command line utilities (below) clearly show the printer existing on the network, the printer cannot be "located" by this tool, as HP's hard-wired NetBIOS Group / Workgroup name does not match the Workgroup name our firm uses.
Having a manufacturer decree that users must change the configuration of every device on their network to accommodate use of its product is unacceptable.
This is a relatively easy fix, HP.

How do I print panoramic photos on an HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus printer?

Thank you for this link! Actually I installed a brand new Windows 8 system in January 2014 and then bought the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer a few days later. To install this printer I did not use the CD that came with it but already used this link. Just to be sure that I have the latest version I again reinstalled the driver. The result is definitive: You cannot print common photo paper sizes like 4x6,  5x7, 8x10, etc. via a PC using photo SW like HP Photo Creations, MS Gallery, Windows Photo Viewer or any other SW on a HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. The reason is most likely that HP marketing decided that an Officejet should not be smart enough for photos, after all the company sells also Photosmarts. Because you cannot create your own formats  you are limited by the driver to what is typically available in an office, in this case:  A4, Letter, legal, Statement, Executive, A4, A5, A6, B54 (JIS), Envelopes #10-DL-C5-C6-A2-Monarch, Japanese Postcard, Japanese Envelope Chou #3-#4, L, 2L, O**bleep**u hagaki, Index Card Letter-A4, Edge-to-Edge Letter-A4, Env. Japanese No 3-No 4 and that's it, not more. Thank you anyway for trying to help me but in this case only the SW developers in HP can help.It would be great to be able to print from time to time a 4x6 photo on this printer like I would do.Copying photos on a USB stick or on a SD card first and then use this way to print on the printer is too cumbersome for me.

The printer status report has in line 47 the date (rounded to the week) the printhead was installed.  Except in the rare case the printhead has been replaced this would correspond to the date the printer was installed.

Hey , I understand that you are not able to print the court seal on legal documents on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. However, I do need to clarify a few things before I will be able to guide you to a solution.  (1) What program are you printing these court documents through?   (2) Does the court seal appear in a Print Preview window under the program?    Once I have the answers to my two questions above I will be happy to guide you to a solution. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus - How to enable scan to computer?

    Hello,
I am running Windows 7.  My printer says that in order to scan to computer from the device, I need to enable it in the settings on my computer.  Where is that setting?  I couldn't find it in the manual or anywhere.
    Thanks,
    Josh

    Hi Josh,
On the computer desktop screen do you see printer icon which says HP Officejet 8500A series ? If YES, double click it. Then double click "Scanner Actions" and then you can see the option "Activate Scan to computer".
Note: In order to use scan button on the printer, this feature should always be activated. Once activated, if you restart the printer or computer, this needs to be re-activated again.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A constantly changing IP

Hi, we have the HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer - A910g, Model name: CM756A. We set it up in our peer to peer workgroup (non domain) Windows network wirelessly. But every time there is a need to reset the router (when we have internet problems- several times a week) the printer also resets its IP to something else, in spite of me setting it to have a permanent IP with these instructions
    http://www.ehow.com/how_8265636_set-officejet-pro-8500-a909.html
How can I make sure the officejet stays on an IP no matter what? every time it changes the ip, it of course stops working for everyone on the network. We have a wireless Edimax BR-6524N router getting the internet from a DSL line with PPoE.
Could this be the solution? turning on "Enable Static DHCP Leases" (currently set to automatic DNS/IP configuration) and setting the IP and Mac address of the printer as a static lease?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The steps provided by the linked document are different and intended for a different model (Officejet Pro 8500 (A909)
In order to set a manual IP follow the following steps:
Touch the Right Arrow ( ) on the product's control panel to display the second navigation screen.
Touch the Network icon ( ).
Touch the Up Arrow ( ) or the Down Arrow ( ) to find and then select Advanced Setup.
Touch the Up Arrow ( ) or the Down Arrow ( ) to find and then select P Settings
Touch Manual and follow the screen to update the current IP Address. I would recommend you to check an higher value by changing the last part only, that in order to avoid any conflict in the future (e.g. 10.0.0.70)

  • How do I load an envelope in my printer (HP Officejet Pro 8500A)

How do I load an envelope in an HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus printer?

    Hi,
Page #35 of the manual says:
    Cards and envelopes
    • Avoid envelopes that have a very slick finish, self-stick adhesives, clasps, or windows. Also avoid cards and envelopes with thick, irregular, or curled edges, or areas that are wrinkled, torn, or otherwise damaged.
    • Use tightly constructed envelopes, and make sure the folds are sharply creased.
    • Load envelopes with the flaps facing up and to the right or the back of the tray (tray 1 or tray 2 in some models)

After the latest update, all my apple products reverted to an old icloud account.  As it no longer exists, I cannot get into it to delete it and add the correct id.  How can I change this, especially on my Macbook pro?  There is no p/w related to it and even though I tried to reset "password" it won't allow as the id does not exist, neither does the email associated with the old id.  How do I switch it to a newer id?

It's all rather odd because the old account cannot 'no longer exist' - if you don't have the correct password you won't be able to get into it, but you can't actually delete an iCloud account from the server.
I'm afraid you will need the services of iCloud Support. If you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/
You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support and you may be asked to pay a fee.

Mr. Pat, there are some people who still try to do that, but you are risking losing all your music, photos, email, etc. It is not for the faint of heart.  This page, albeit published in 2003 by Dr. Smoke, is still pretty valid, IMHO:

It is a grave mistake to rename your Home folder -- changing its file name from johnsmith toJohn, for example -- in an attempt to change the short name for your account when using Mac® OS X.

  • How do I get the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus to print only black or grayscale? What is the procedure?

How do I set my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus to print only black or grayscale?  What is the procedure?

Hi, Looks like you have to do this from the aplications. Here is the procedure from its manual, page #36: 1. Load paper in the tray. For more information, see Load media.
    2. On the File menu in your software application, click Print.
    3. Make sure the printer you want to use is selected.
    4. To change settings, click the button that opens the Properties dialog box. Depending on your software application, this button might be called Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
    5. Change the paper orientation on the Layout tab, and paper source, media type, paper size, and quality settings on the Paper/Quality tab. To print in black and
white, click the Advanced button, and then change the Print in Grayscale option.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Click Print or OK to begin printing Regards.

  • Is Windows Server 2012 compatible with HP Officejet pro 8600 plus printers

    Hello,
I am wondering whether HP officejet pro 8600 plus printers compatible with Windows server 2012 - I have the driver installed on the server and deployed - installation of the driver and all was successful but it won't print from the server or on a user's computer from the deployed printers list. No error message comes up, I just click print and nothing happens. If I install it individually on the user computers - it seems to print as a 'network printer' but won't print from the server, and if it can not print from the server then it can not print from the deployed printers list. I was looking up on driver compatibility list online earlier and could not find Windows Server 2012 mentioned on the list - only server 2008 and below.
Essentially what I am trying to find out is whether this officejet pro 8600 plus printer is compatible with our server.
    Many thanks,

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus N911g Devices and Printers Page Is Slow to Open

Hello, I have HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, model N911g, installed as a wireless printer.  I have Windows 7 64-bit.  My Devices and Printers page takes over two minutes to open.  While I am waiting, if I go to Print Spooler Services and click Restart, the page opens right away.  Once the page is open, in the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus device, I ran Troubleshooter and it took about 1/2 hour to finish, and it reported and supposedly fixed a problem in the Print Spooler service.  The assigned Port looks like a recovered port.  However, if I restart the PC and try to open Devices and Printers again, the delay is still present.  I had trouble installing the HP program including the Scan to PC functionality, because response time was so slow.  Now it's installed and working, but the HP program is quite slow to open.  The spinning circle spins and then stops, almost like it has given up opening the program. Then several minutes later the program opens or the requested action begins.

Check the document I linked below. Step 6 might be the solution you are looking for but it will not hurt to start from the top.
