How do i clean windows temporary folders?

I want to speed up my computer. therefore I need to clean windows temporary folders, user temporary folders, cache. But how can i do it?

Hello J.
This is not the best place to ask for this kind of help. You'll be better off looking for support at Microsoft's side.
Still, I recommend you a very handy and easy to use program called CCleaner (short for Crap Cleaner):
www.piriform.com/ccleaner
It will help you clean your computer in a few steps. And since it's very easy to use, you can do it frequently and consistently. It also provides an easier way to uninstall programs from your computer, since Windows' helper isn't really that good. Be careful, however, that you instruct CCleaner to clean what you want and not to clean what you don't want to clean (for example browser cache or browsing history, which people usually like to have).
I hope this helps. But as I said, this is not the best place to look for help on that subject.

  • Automatic clean of Recent Folders list in Finder's "Go" menu: how I did it

Hi everybody. I just would like to share with you the trick I have found to automatically clean the "Recent Folders" list in Finder's "Go" menu.
It costed me some work but eventually it worked.
I wanted it to run at shutdown. If it were executed at startup it would need an extra command (killall Finder) to work properly.
This is how I got it:
Open the terminal and do the followings:
    cd /etc/
    sudo nano rc.shutdown.local
    insert your sudo password
into the nano editor write the following lines:
    #!/bin/bash
    cd /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/
    defaults delete /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder FXRecentFolders
    chown YourUserName:YourGroup com.apple.finder.plist
Close (ctrl+x) and save (y and return)
    And now some explanations.
the first instruction (#!/bin/bash) is just needed if you have an empty or not-existing rc.shutdown.localfile otherwise it should be just there.
YourUserName is obviously the name of your user whose Finder's preference file you want to edit.
YourGroup is the group your user belongs to. Usually it is 'staff'.
the chown is needed because all this commands are executed by the script as root. So the "defaults delete" command changes the ownership of the com.apple.finder.plist to root:wheel, resulting in the loss of your Finder's preferences at reboot.
For the same reason the "defaults" command specify the exact path to the domain to be edited (without the .plist part as usual).
The rc.shutdown.local does not need to be set as executable. It works as it is created by nano but please remember to reboot twice after any change in order to see the effects.
I hope it could be clear enough and somehow useful.
Please feel free to add comment, questions or improvement suggestion.
    Thanks

Alright I have windows 7 and I tried downloading the new iPhone software at least 8 times now and each time the download completes, but then promps me that the connection has timed out. I am certain that it is not my internet connection because I have used several different networks. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to change my internet options if that is the problem. I turned off all of my firewalls since I could not find a way to allow itunes to pass through the firewall even though it seems to be allowed. Thanks to anyone that can help.

  • How to download a clean Windows 8 pro iso?

I want to remove all the lenovo bloatware, and install a clean window 8 copy.
The first step is to find a clean windows 8 iso. However, the windows setup or window upgrade assistant wouldn't allow me to download any windows copy.
How can I download a clean windows 8 iso? I assume the version I shall use for Windows 8 pro is en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso.
    Thanks for sharing!

Have you tried doing the download on another computer, if one is available?
The only problem that might crop up is the clean copy you are trying to download maybe what is called a "retail" copy.  Your system has what is known as a "OEM" COA sticker on it.  I'm not sure about Windows 8, but back in the day of Windows XP you needed a OEM install disc in order to use a OEM key.
Also if your download source is from a torrent, it might not be so clean.  File shared copies aren't immune from having spyware or malware in them.  You might be better off just cleaning up the Lenovo bloatware on your present install.

  • How can i make the volume controller on a pavillion dv4 work after a clean windows install?

    Hello!
Recently I performed a clean windows 7 install from a windows install disk I previously owned, the problem is that this disk didn't intalled the drivers and programs specific for this computer. What I want to know is which driver or program I need to install to make the volume controller on my computer to work again? The problem is that the volume bar that previously appeared on the screen and the "bing" sound indicating the volume level doesn't appear or sound now.
All other things seem to work fine, this is the only problem so far.
    Thanks!

  • How do i clean up start up disc space

I am getting a message saying that my start up disc is full. How do I clean it up?

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.

  • Trying to install SAP Business One 8.8 on a clean Windows 7 professional pc

Hi,   i am trying to install SAP Business One V 8.8 on a clean Windows 7 professional laptop.  I need to install the server and client sides.  I have already installed SQL server express 2005.
When i try to to install the server software I get the error message 1628 installation failed almost straight away.  I ket the same message if I try and install the server tools, SBo server or outlook integration.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance
    Simon

    Hi Simon,
    Solution to Problem ID :1618
    Try the following Steps :
    1. Clear the 'Temporary' Folder of Windows 7 : Start ->Run->%temp%->Press 'Enter'->Select All & Delete
    2. Restart your machine. (This is Must)
Actually it keeps an image of the previous installations, so always for re-installation you need to perform this steps.
Same is with Win 2008 Server editions also.
Now proceed with the installation and remember always run SBO installations in Windows 7 and 2008 Server by clicking on 'Run as Administrator'
Hope your problem would be solved.

  • I have duplicative song files in my library that are grayed out.  This seems to cause a syncing problem to my ipod or iphone.  How can I clean up this mess?

I chose to let iTunes rearrange my files and it appears to have duplicated them in my computer's drive.  So now I have the same folders/files directly under my D drive (second computer hard drive) and also in the iTunes Music Folder that iTunes created.  Wasn't sure what to do so I did another import and now I have files in my library that are grayed out with the small i symbol in the circle next to them.  I also have the working (bolded) files too.  How can I clean this up?

    Musicman05 wrote:
Is there a way to override the 256kbps "conversion" when uploading to iCloud?
No. All music that is mirrored in the cloud will be AAC@256 Kbps.
    Musicman05 wrote:
Along the same lines, if I "download" a song from my library to my iPhone, then plug my iPhone into my computer and sync the song file from my computer, will the higher quality original file overwrite the 256 one?
No, because with iTunes Match enabled on an iOS device traditional syncing of music via USB is disabled. All music management is done directly on the device.
    Musicman05 wrote:
Also, if I want to syncronize another computer using iTunes match, how can I get the higher quality audio files?  Will I simply have to transport all of them by an exernal hard drive or thumb drive?
You will first have to copy the high-quality audio files to the computer, add them to the iTunes library then enable iTunes Match.

  • U310 Clean Windows 7 Installation

I bought a U310 which suffers from a very slow Wifi perfomance. The problem seems to be know in this forum.
Apart from that I'd prefer a clean Windows 7 installation without the "Lenovo overhead" and with my Win7 Professional liscence.
I prepared a USB pen drive to be bootable and tried the setup from the stick. Somehow the Windows 7 setup does not seem to recognize any drives and partitions to install on. I guess I have to include the intel storage driver on my setup usb stick? But on the other hand, shouldn't the normal hdd (500 Gb) be recognizabe for the setup?
In Windows storage manager, I see what I suppose is the 32GB SSD, but its only shown as 32GB.
Any hints on how to be able to fully use the 32GB SSD and install Windows on it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
the method described below is theoretical, I haven't tried it yet:
if you want to use the SSD cahce for installing Windows on it, you have to break up the raid array on it. After that you should see unallocated space.
If you don't want to use RapidStart, you can force delete the hibernation partition to gain extra 8GB space. (note: you have to disable it in the bios too)
Then you sould download the Rapid Storage F6 drivers (x86 or x64, based on your future installation architecture) and copy it on the usb drive.
During windows install, load the drivers from the disk. And install the system on the ssd cache drive.
