How Do I clear history?

I have a whole bunch of pages in the recently worked on window that have been moved
.I can't see the whole path for them so when I go to open one it points me to the folder that was moved and I can't open it.It's kind of a pain accidentally picking the wrong one and I was wondering if there is a way that the history can be deleted in that start up window so that I can start fresh? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you guys make a great point, I too don't like how my cookies are erased when I clear history and have to use the go around. I see you are using a Linux distro, but please note the current Firefox release is now Firefox 11. What exactly are you trying to clear for instance:

I haven't seen a search history for Spotlight, but wonder if you have emptied your Mail Trash. If you delete a message in Mail, it goes to a Trash folder which you can see by selecting your account under Accounts (portrait view, Mailboxes). Once you open the Trash for that account you can permanently delete the mail.
